I've only purchased glasses from this place and took my eye exam elsewhere. I had a great experience at Optometry on Orangethorpe from start to finish. Janine was extremely helpful throughout the process and took the time to answer my questions with no impression that I was wasting her time. The staff are very patient, knowledgeable, and friendly. I had a weird vision insurance snafu and they allowed me to pick out frames and options, and then pay the next day over the phone after they reconciled with the provider. There is a decent selection of frames at this store. I just received my glasses and the prescription is as expected. I'm not sure which specific type of lenses they use, but they feel quality and so far I'm more than happy with my purchase. Parking is right by the building and I had no issues in the late afternoon. I appreciate that they are open until 7PM a couple days a week. Sure it's a bit more expensive than Costco or online stores but I feel like the extra bit is worth it considering the services received. read more

I **was** a loyal customer of this office for approximately 15 years. Unfortunately, after their new phone system was installed, I'm reconsidering my relationship with them. While they send text reminders for appointments and notify you when your glasses are ready for pickup, they do **not** receive text replies. Voicemails seem to vanish into the void as well--after six days, I still hadn't received a callback. Even when I managed to speak to someone directly, they assured me they'd return my call within 20 minutes. That call never came. When I followed up and calmly voiced my frustration, I was met with excuses--short staffing, dissatisfaction with their new phone system, and little accountability. I understand that times are tough, but I'm exhausted by the excuses. Hopefully, the owner takes their staff's concerns seriously before frustrated patients feel compelled to share their experiences on Yelp. read more

Horrible experience. Hollie Huynh did not provide the vision care I was charged for. Hollie Huynh did not provide any instructions of what to do during the exam, she just threw a eye blocker at me, and put up words, and flipped through prescriptions rapidly without any communication of how to communicate better or worse? which eye to close? where to look with other tests? I was given less than a second at each prescription and it was moved on before I could blink. I WAS NOT EVEN GIVEN TIME TO BLINK TO TEST THE DIFFERENT RXs. Rapid incorrect decisions were made about my prescription, and then she just walked out and came back, all confused on what my prescription was, shifting between several numbers. When I asked for proper medical care, she blamed the staff, who were doing their jobs well. I asked to be tested again, which she did with the same negligible care, which provided me no assurance. I kept asking for explanations or more than 3 seconds on decisions about my vision. Do I really need to explain why vision is important for humans beings? I was provided with no intelligible explanation, I kept saying 'I do not know what this means' and she would just not respond and walk out or said some reactive-fragmented words and just went 'OK?' and kept opening the door to push me out. To be clear, I have a PHD in neuroscience, I am fully capable of understanding and knowing intelligible words and proper eye testing. Decisions about my prescription were made from improper testing. I had paid extra for the non-dilated vision test and when I asked for a doctor to read the results as she was pushing me out the door, she said I needed to get my eyes dilated for it. I re-explained again and again, until she gave a few seconds to actually listen and then spent less than that scanning the photos and just went 'they're ok' with one hand already on the door. They then gave me the incorrect prescription paper at check out again and I was not charged correctly for my insurance. It is ridiculous I paid for vision care I did not receive and I do not trust any of it. This is not OK. Is there an actual doctor at this practice who does provide proper vision testing? read more

This by far was the worst experience I had going to find glasses for my kids. I went in and had an appointment for my two kids and was super excited about it only to come in with two associates claiming we did not have an appointment. They were so incredibly rude as they did not make my family feel welcomed. These associates probably wanted to start their weekend and were annoyed that we came in. I felt like we were a burden as they did not want to help us. Please train your employees and teach them the value of customer service. Will not be coming back. Please do not come here. I would really like to leave a better review, but my visit with Dr Lafont was in June. I understand there was a mixup on my lenses in my new glasses, and they had to be re-done. I understand that at this time, my glasses and contacts are ready to be picked up. There was a comment by someone. Sorry, I didn't get a name, but I was told to come in, and someone would "check" the fitting for my glasses. I have tried multiple times to get in touch with someone/anyone, but to no avail. I have gone so far as to request an appt online, but I haven't gotten confirmation for the appt for Friday, July 26th, at 11 or 11:30 am Any assistance would be much appreciated. read more

Came here and saw Dr. Hollie. She was awesome. The reason for the for the poor review is the older gentleman assisting me with my order for glasses. He was a bit slow working through the ordering process but we finally got it in and I paid what he quoted in full. A few weeks later he informed me my frames had arrived but it would be an additional $230 on top of what I already paid. When I asked why the sudden price difference he said he had no idea the glasses were that expensive... Not sure how business is normally done here but it really didn't make any sense to me that there is was no way to know considering we had a computer in front of him. Since the price difference was almost double what was originally quoted I said I would just like a refund and get my glasses somewhere else. He then seemed pretty annoyed and said I would be charged $10 for the return shipping. I asked why did I need to pay the $10 when it wasn't my fault and instead of giving me any reason he went on about how I created a lot of work for him to call the insurance and make a return. Wasn't sure if he was expecting an apology from me at that point but I didn't feel too bad since he never offered one as well. Even with the whole price mess up situation, I probably would not have left a negative review but the whole thing about me inconveniencing him with my return really was too much. Dr. Hollie is great but maybe consider getting your glasses somewhere else. I won't be returning. read more

My husband has been a patient at this location for years. He had an exam and ordered glasses on January 9, 2025 and we were told he'd have his new glasses in 10 days. Ten days came and went and I started calling every few days to check on the status. I was given lots of different excuses like the lab was backed up because of the holidays, the order was in process, they were waiting for a response from the lab, etc. By March 5, 2025, he still hadn't received his glasses, so I cancelled the order and got my money back. Also, ALL communication with the office was initiated by me. NOT ONE TIME, did the office staff call me to give me an update, or keep me informed as to the status of his order. They couldn't produce an uncomplicated pair of glasses in two months? Unacceptable and my husband won't be using them again. read more

I'm happy with this place because Dr. LaFont corrected my vision. He did a VERY thorough examination of my eyes and never seemed like he was in a rush. He also did not want to prescribe lenses until he was positive that I was receiving the correct prescription. He made sure of this by allowing me to trial contact lenses for a week. After that week, he had me come in to do another eye exam. I'm happy with that because I think my eye sight is so much better!! However, I do have some cons about this place. One of them is because of my own personal preference. I DO NOT like other people touching my eyeballs. Never in my life have I had an optometrist touch my eyeball to fix or take out my contact lenses. Dr. LaFont seems to like doing that for his clients or it's just a regular thing for him... because during my first visit he took out my contact lenses without asking if it was okay and then proceeded to put in new ones on my eye (also without asking). That freaked me out and honestly threw the visit off. So if you are like me and don't like others touching your eyeball with their bare hands, make sure you let him know here. Secondly, I am disappointed because I did not receive my contact lenses in the time I was told I would receive them. After I ordered and paid for the lenses, I was told by the staff member that it would take about 3 days to get them if I picked it up there. It would take a week if I had them shipped to my house. I opted to pick them up because it was quicker and expected a call within 3 days. I never received that call and had to call them a week later only to find out that they never got those contact lenses.. I still got my contacts, but it was a little inconvenient read more

Dr. LaFont was great. His Receptionist with long wavy hair and clear-framed glasses not so much. First and foremost i had asked for a call if there were any changes to my insurance (considering tbe website showed 1 exam and 1 pair of glasses per year) she said that wasnt possible to call me in two weeks to let me know because she'd then have to for others who have my insurance. I wasn't asking for everyone just myself. Then she proceeded to ask why I'd ask that- keep in mind prior to her question I had already told her I couldn't afford the 100-200 dollars for glasses. Not keeping that in mind she let me know they have discounted glasses starting at 100 dollars. Gee thanks! Upon leaving, after I had my eyes dialated and slowly had become more sensitive to light and having a harder time seeing without shaders. While trying to find the right sized shaders (as recommended by the optometrist) she stared and laughed at me. I asked what was so funny as i was the only thing she had been looking at and with a smug tone she said "oh, nothing". As if my well-being or others on the road was that of a joke. Glad i asked for my perscription because although I respect LaFont his receptionist is the main reason I will not step foot in that place again read more

I love this place I've been going here for 17 years which is crazy. Dr. Lafont is great he is extremely professional and has a very fancy demeanor. He is very informative and always gives you a quick educational session. There's another Dr. Dr Kim I believe. She is super quick like in cover all the basis educate a little and out. I don't mind Dr. Kim she's very nice and to the point. I'd see her again but I'm just used to Lafont. The office staff is nice and personable as well. Theresa seems to be the lead but the others do most of the patient interaction. The -1 star is for a lack of frame options I just feel that at this point a practice that is so well established should have more options read more

I've worn glasses since the 3rd grade and contacts since the 8th grade, so I've been to a lot of eye places. Going here for an eye exam was one of the best experiences. Staff was very knowledgeable and friendly, helped me pick out frames that looked good and helped me understand all the cost (insurance) and options. Dr. La Font was very personable and professional, taught me a few things I didn't know before about my eyes, and I would definitely recommend the eye scan instead of the dilation, worth the extra $40 in my mind because you can still see after the exam and it was cool seeing the back of my own eyes, but was glad the staff gave me the option and explained I could do the dilation (which is covered by insurance) or not. I call to make an appointment because my eye has been twitching pretty bad they tell me next available appointment in the evening is April 15th ..I said thatsbto far out I need to get my eyes checked sooner ..she said come in next day at 510 .. now I had to ask work to leave early to make it there in time only to be told no such appointment was made .
