I feel extremely disappointed, devalued, and frustrated by the lack of communication, professionalism, and compassion shown by the front office staff and management. My husband called ahead to notify the office that I would be arriving late to my appointment due to unforeseen circumstances. He specifically communicated that I would arrive around 3:17 PM, and the receptionist, whose name started with "R," confirmed that it would be okay. Based on that conversation, I drove 1 hour and 14 minutes to make it to the office while dealing with a major highway delay. At 3:21 PM, while pulling into the parking garage, I received a call from Zane informing me that my appointment was being canceled because of a 15-minute grace period. I explained that my husband had already called ahead and communicated the delay, and we were told it would be fine. Zane stated he still needed to cancel the appointment and mentioned speaking with his manager, Sandra, after I expressed my concerns. I asked him to wait, as I was actively parking and walking into the office. When I entered the office, I immediately had my husband on the phone to confirm the prior conversation. The receptionist acknowledged speaking with him but failed to take accountability for not informing us that the appointment would automatically be canceled after 15 minutes. Had that been clearly communicated, we would have made a different decision instead of driving all that way under the impression I would still be seen. The customer service from the front desk staff was disappointing, frustrating, and unprofessional. Unfortunately, this is not the first issue I have experienced with Zane. There have been multiple occasions involving incorrect scheduling and inaccurate billing information that later required Sandra to step in and correct. Placing these individuals as the face of the office creates a poor patient experience. To make matters worse, Sandra, the office manager, came into the open waiting area and attempted to discuss my appointment, billing, and personal matters in front of another patient. I had to request privacy, which should have been offered from the beginning. During our conversation, I was clearly frustrated, but I also felt talked over and dismissed. There was no compassion, empathy, grace, or willingness to work toward a reasonable resolution, whether that meant seeing me briefly or simply helping me reschedule. Additionally, the receptionist, El, acted as though she never assured my husband that we could still be seen after he explained we would pay our previous balance on Friday and specifically asked whether we should still come in for the appointment. Again, there was no accountability for the miscommunication. It is very clear that the office culture and business model have changed. What once felt patient-centered now feels transactional, as though patients should feel privileged simply to be there. Long-term loyalty no longer appears to matter. To my credit, I later called back to apologize for my response out of frustration because I believe in growth, accountability, and handling situations better. However, even during that conversation, there was no effort to extend understanding or mutual respect. Instead, I was told there would be "no grace" given regardless of the communication we provided or our heartfelt apologies. During the call, El stated, "What do you want out of this conversation?" and later said she was "tired of going around and around about this." When we explained that we simply wanted to feel valued as patients, El responded that they also wanted to feel valued by patients arriving on time. However, the fact that we drive over an hour to this office demonstrates that we value their services and respect their time. We also called ahead specifically to communicate the delay, which further showed consideration and respect for the office. El then compared the situation to her experience as a hairstylist. Respect, communication, professionalism, and empathy matter greatly in healthcare settings, and unfortunately, this office failed. This review is specifically for the Gold Coast location of ORA Dental Studio - Gold Coast located at 700 N State Street, Chicago, IL 60654. While ORA Dental has multiple locations that share the same name, my experience occurred at this specific office. I hope that the owners will review my call logs and the final phone call with El who showed a lake of respect when I apologized and had no humility and apologize on their poor communication. My treatment and customer service experience were consistently despicable. I received three different versions of a bite splint, all three were radically incorrect. Ora reluctantly refunded me for the first two and refused to refund the third. I spoke with Invisalign, the company that produced the 3rd device and was told by their customer support that the product sold to me is not intended for bruxism(clenching) and that they spoke with Ora Dental--and that I should follow up with the office manager there. When I did so, I was told: "Unfortunately there is nothing more we can do for you at this time". Yes, Ora Dental can definitely see you and produce a bite guard but they can not be relied upon to do it correctly. I now own a box of Invisalign dental retainers which are utterly useless for my condition. Fortunately, this horrible experience led me to an experienced dentist who competently diagnosed my issue and fit me for the appropriate bite splint with one visit--a radical departure from my multi-month journey of incompetency at Ora Dental River North. My dentist was Matthew Feigenbaum DDS, and I do want to say that he is a very nice guy but he simply lacks experience, and it shows. read more

This is everything you want your modern dental office to be! From Dr. Fakhoury, the hygienists, front desk staff, facilities, and ease of scheduling - all top notch! Dr. Fakhoury is a personable and highly skilled dentist that really listens to his patients. Before going to see Dr. Fakhoury, I hadn't been getting regular dental care for a few years and this resulted in my dental health not being in peak form. After thorough assessments, I required several fillings and crowns to repair the damage done due to grinding my teeth and drinking way too many carbonated beverages. I was extremely nervous getting so much work done, but Dr. Fakhoury made himself available countless times to answer the many questions I've had. I've also had the pleasure of getting Invisalign aligners under the care of Dr. Fakhoury. His knowledge and skill in arranging the most efficient Invisalign course is second to none! This office also has begun to provide Botox treatments which have been helpful for masseter muscle relaxation (for tooth grinding) as well as cosmetic treatments. I've had the benefit of both and have been thoroughly impressed with the results thus far! I've gotten several cleanings by Jordan as well, and she is the sweetest! She makes getting your teeth cleaned an enjoyable experience, which I didn't think was possible. Also, she is very knowledgable. I love Dr. Patel. First off I have a small jaw & she has tiny hands = win. The office is beautiful and well taken care of. The staff is always super friendly. I've had work done and Dr. Patel always explains everything. She seems passionate about what she does. She's even taken time to answer questions by my honey who has a different dentist and she told him to tell his dentist what she said. How super cool of her. I opted to go with invisaliners to correct some crookedness and 17 weeks later close to perfection. I wasn't super happy with 2 teeth and no problem. Dr. Patel rescanned my teeth to do more correcting. Whats a few more weeks for perfection? When I initially asked I was told by the person at the reception that there was a slight delay and it will be 10 more mins but I ended up waiting 50 mins! I told them that I have a baby at home and I cant wait for this long and that they should have called me to reschedule. The response was: "We have a lot going on and we could not have known about the delay beforehand"! I was reminded 3 times this week about the appointment and how they would charge me a 50 dollar cancellation fee/no show fee if I dont reach in time but it seemed ok to them for me to wait for 50 mins. I'm currently getting additional reconstructive dental work done ($2k!) on the work they did less than a year ago. Mainly due to the mixing of materials in my old and their new fillings + their new restorations contained air bubbles. Aka: a breeding ground for bacteria! I wasn't in pain yet, but a quick look at how dark one tooth was getting along the restoration line after going to a new dentist made it very clear that I was close to being in a TON of pain if I hadn't gone in for a regular cleaning. I'm sure their work caused at least one additional cavity to form faster than needed. Everyone was nice that I worked with, but the work leaves a literal bad taste in my mouth. Although the staff is very nice, I had a filling done a month ago and it was NOT a job well done. I have been in pain ever since I left and CAN'T CHEW ON THE LEFT SIDE OF MY MOUTH! So I called and tried to get an appointment and it is just nearly impossible to get back in there. First off, any company that bothers their patients multiple times after an appointment to write a review is just wrong. The place is modern and they have great technology but that's it. It's a chain and I don't find the people very professional. When they cleaned my teeth they did it in 1/5 the time of any other dental practices I have visited. When I got a filling, it was painful! The dentist didn't leave the numbing gel on long enough and then she hit my nerve which felt like I had been electrocuted. When I was leaving the dentist responded by saying well at least you aren't leaving in pain. Well yes that is a good thing but why should there have been pain at all? I have been seeing Dr. Patel since she was at the Ora south loop office and followed her to this office, which is brand new. I have had both cosmetic and medical work done by her and can attest that she does a great job. She has a wonderful bedside manner and will take time to explain and answer any questions about your care. I would recommend her to any of my friends and family. I just had my first visit at the new river north location and it was a great experience from beginning to end. First, the office is beautiful; its brand new with state of the art equipment, flat screen TVs, and refreshments. Second, everyone who works there is friendly, helpful, and committed to making sure you have a good experience. They're really great about working with your insurance plan to make sure you don't have to deal with any hassles. Although they offer cosmetic procedures they don't put any pressure whatsoever unless this is something you're interested in. They have flexible hours and Dr. Patel usually runs right on time so it's easy to fit visits into your busy schedule. Overall, coming here was a much different and better experience than I've had with dental offices in the past. You will receive great care in a friendly, comfortable setting. read more

I love this place. I came here on a recommendation from a coworker, as my office is two blocks away, and I wanted a dentist that was nearby. My appointment began with a cleaning from a hygienist, who was very thorough and gave me a lot of advice on what I was doing well and what I could do to improve. Dr. Patel was also very kind and professional, and she explained everything in a way that was easy for me to understand. If you care about sustainability, this office also does a great job! They are (almost) 99% paperless! All of the check-in paperwork is done online, and so is the billing. The only piece of paper that I had to touch was a receipt for me to provide my signature. I would hope that they can accept electronic signatures in the future, but for now, I'm happy with the paperwork they have eliminated thus far! read more

I popped in today to see about scheduling an appointment, and they were able to schedule me for the same day! Great, I think, after filling out the paperwork online (with a little warning about insurance not always covering X-Rays) I come back for my appointment. They were running 15 min late, which is understandable. But when I tried to refuse the x-rays the office manager came back to "talk to me". Honestly, I could have been talked into it, I know they are important etc, etc. But they pulled out the big guns. "It's the law". I found it very unlikely that a government body would mandate that I don't have the right to medical treatment if I refuse x-rays. (I used to work in hospice, so patient rights are a little bit of a trigger for me) I will pay the cancelation fee and remove this review if someone can show me that law. County? State? Federal? But right now, Google is telling me "no". That the office manager just lied to bully me into their company policy. read more

Dr. Fakhoury was by far the nicest dentist I've ever had. He explained everything to me in a way I could understand. My old dentist would just make a treatment plan for me and I would show up not knowing what I have to pay or what I needed done. This is not the case at Ora River North! All the staff is so friendly and you truly feel they are there to help (and that they want to). I am excited to make this office my permanent one and to have Dr. Fakhoury doing my treatment. Initially I had a great experience at Ora Dental. My hygienist was incredibly kind and explained everything to me. I had to come back for some fillings and other work. The dentist did these procedures incredibly fast, it almost seemed as though it was a race to see how fast he could finish. I don't understand why he was going so quickly, made me feel unvalued as a patient. It made me incredibly uncomfortable as I didn't feel I was getting the best care I could have for the money I'm paying. One of the assistants also kept pulling her mask down to speak to me, and was wearing her mask under nose the whole time while one foot away from my face. I felt incredibly unsafe as I cannot wear my mask while at the dentist, and I expected more from a medical office. I will be finding a new dentist, and I highly recommend to go somewhere else if you need other procedures done besides a cleaning. read more

I went to Ora for a replacement crown. The lobby is beautiful and the office looks brand new. I really wanted to enjoy my experience here, but a few things were a disappointing. I booked an appointment 4 weeks out and when I got to the day Dr. Patel was unable to make it. No biggie, I understood and rescheduled for three weeks later but I was in pain. Then when I got to my second appointment someone else was filling in for Dr. Patel. The procedure was suppose to last one hour and it turned in to 2.5 hours and I was numbed 4 different times. It's been a week since the procedure and my mouth has been "ripped" and I have a cut at the corner of my mouth. It's painful and hoping it heals quick. Not sure if I'll be going back. read more

Bad experience: my doctor didn't go over the clincheck with me (view of what your teeth will look like after the Invisalign plan). She could have emailed it or scheduled an appointment to review. Instead she ordered full plan of trays for a treatment I didn't want. The treatment showed that she didn't listen when I explained what I wanted. Wish I rejected it and asked for a new plan but accepted it thinking she did what was best. Now my teeth have uneven IPR and and little room to go back to the plan I would have wanted. Also, every other time I go in, people don't know why I'm there, eg are you here for a consultation? No. And my claim wasn't processed properly, not sure if that's the fault of my insurance or Ora but it very much became my problem. Overall, I would recommend avoiding due to the lack of a customized treatment plan (if you're at all picky like me) and lack of anyone who cares when you are having a bad experience. read more
