This review in particular it's not so much about the hospital in general but really about amazing doctors who work there. One in particular Dr Luruziaga . In August I began fostering a dog that was hit by a car and was paraplegic when she came to me. We didn't know what the prognosis would be like, but after 5 awful crazy busy weeks of keeping her in the crate and trying to nurse her back to health, a set of Doctors at Oradell took time out of their day. The wanted to make sure she got a complete work-up so we knew what the long-term prognosis was. Dr. Fettig, Dr. Levshin and Dr. Luruziaga did everything they could to assess Veronica and thankfully it was determined that she would not be a cart dog. She would walk again and is walking today. Between weekly physical therapy and at home exercises she's been doing fantastic. But there are still little hiccups and questions here and there and Dr. Luruziaga has been my go to this whole time. I would be lost without her. Just this past weekend I'm not sure what happened but Veronica suddenly started screaming in pain as her one leg seemed to tighten up and contract. The pain had continued for a couple days and not subsided but with Dr. Luruziaga's counsel we are taking it easy and have started some pain meds and are resting up. She already seems so much better and we are looking to resume physical therapy next week. Thank you so much to the 3 of you and in particular Dr. Diana Luruziaga. You always take the time to call me back and listen to me ramble and rant when I get nervous and with a steady head she walks me through what to do. I would truly be lost without your counsel. You are going above and beyond your job description and it speaks to the incredible person you are and your integrity. You truly care about what you do and helping animals. Thank you. Would highly recommend going to Oradell to see any of these three doctors. *want to add I met Dr Murphy through my foster recently having a dental and teeth extracted and she was also phenomenal. Chaos. They have no idea what they are doing. They told me to come in that my dog would 100% be seen by a neurologist and when I arrived the story changed. There is NO guarantee your dog will be seen by a specialist here. They didn't even have my info logged into the computer when I walked in. It's Nearly Impossible to get ahold of them via phone. Line out the door by 10am. Miscommunication all around. The staff don't communicate with each other. They told me the wait to be seen is 6-12 hours at TEN AM! Absolutely ridiculous. I wasted my time and money coming to this hospital. I should of stayed in the city at blue Pearl. Oh and they wanted $400+ upfront for this, not to mention the test she needs which they flat out refused to do today after they told me over the phone they would do it. I have been going to Oradell for over 20 years, mostly for emergency care, sometimes for an appointment with a specific veterinarian. My birds and bunnies all did well there. Sadly, my last appointment in July, was to be the end of the road for my young rabbit. She looked healthy and happy but started to regurgitate her food. So late on a Friday night we went off to Oradell. A CT scan revealed that she had a deformed esophagus and had a blockage between that and her stomach. I went into shock when I realized she needed to be euthanized. The sympathy that I received from the unlucky doctor who would put her down was amazing. I was put into a small room and my Peanut was brought to me. We could be together as long as we needed. When I was ready to let her go, the doctor told me everything that he was going to do and again as he did it. I held my Peanut while she entered eternity. I have had to put down some of my critters before but I had never been treated as kindly as I was at Oradell. They were truly a blessing in a terrible time. read more

Oradell is the gold standard, no doubt there will always be mixed experiences but a few weeks ago one of our dogs needed to see a veterinary neurologist and we brought him here. The level of care was exceptional and they performed life saving surgery. As outlined in other reviews it's a premium service but for what we needed could not have asked for better care. read more

my dog had its spleen removed and the surgeon had us bring him to Oradell because they're facility was not open 24/7. a call was made ahead to Oradell Dr.s with all pertinent information. Now they are going in a different direction then was initially planned. from just going to being observed over night we are being sold a bill of good that they're estimate is between 8-20,000.00 and this is after the surgery has been performed by another doctor and elsewhere. 3 hrs later we're still waiting on some test they started. this day started at 8:00am this morning and it's 8:45pm I have choice words for this establishmen, but will refrain. read more

That has been our go to emergency hospital. Unfortunately during COVID, we couldn't use them due to limited staff from doctor infections. But prior to COVID, one of our dogs herniated his disc and needed surgery. Dr. Kerry Bailey was the neurologist who saw our dog and came highly recommended from Dr. Berg of GVS. After surgery he went there for rehabilitation. He had to learn to walk again. The rehab team was excellent. He also had to back up. They had a backup song for him. We had to stop the rehab on our own because we felt he'd do better at home and it was true. We he had a rehab check with the rehab doctor, he appeared to not be improving. He just didn't want to cooperate with the doctor. But he did great with the technicians. I don't think it was anything with the staff just a stubborn Frenchie. They will always be our go to emergency hospital. They are only 20 mins from us. read more

I have left two voice messages and sent an email to ask for an prescription for my cat. No one has ever replied. It's been almost a month. My cat has no food to eat. It's a very irresponsible hospital. It's been a month and my cat has no food to eat. They just replied and said the prescription is expired which they should have told me earlier. I am a veterinary technician who USED TO refer all of our clients/my friends to OAH when their pet was in need of emergency care. After my own personal experience with the hospital last week ,I would go as far as to STRONGLY DISCOURAGE anyone I know from taking their pets here. My pet was having a medical emergency and was taken to another hospital prior to coming to Oradell. He was discharged from there and I was told if his condition worsened to find an emergency hospital that has a 24 hour CT staff. At 1 am I called OAH and asked the receptionist if they had the staff for CT on sight to perform the procedure STAT to which I was told yes. We arrived at the hospital at 1:15 am and our dog was admitted. I was greeted by a tech who was very friendly and stated that the doctor would be calling me shortly and that due to covid guidelines we should stay in the car in the parking lot (which is totally understandable and I was fine with) At 3 am I still had not heard from anyone on an update with my dog. I called the hospital and the receptionist said she would check and call me back with a status update. At 4 am, after not hearing anything, I called again and the receptionist stated that someone would be calling me shortly. (Keep in mind this entire time I am sitting in the car waiting in the parking lot and now 3 hours later I still have no idea what is going on.) At 5 am the Doctor finally called me to tell me she JUST examined my dog and that he would indeed need the CT but there was no one on staff to perform the procedure till sometime "in the late morning". I explained to the Doctor that the only reason I came there was because I was told that there was a 24 CT staff and she said she didn't know where I could've heard that because they didn't. I did tell her that I was extremely unhappy I had to wait this long (now 4 hours) to ultimately be told that I could have left after my animal was admitted and that the lack of communication was extremely frustrating. We ultimately left our dog there for CT. During the morning hours I received a phone call saying that the CT would be done shortly and they would call me when my dog was finished. 2 hours later... I had not heard from anyone so I called back. The receptionist told me that my dog was next and she would call me in a few minutes to confirm he went in for his procedure. Another 2 hours later, with no update from the hospital, I called again. They said it would be any minute now. Ultimately, My dog was not ready to be released until 4 pm. (He had been in OAH's care since 1:15 am.) When he was finally discharged, they brought out medication that WAS NOT MEANT TO GO HOME WITH MY DOG. Which is extremely dangerous, unprofessional, and ultimately made me question how my dog was treated the entirety of his stay. Now as a Vet Tech, I understand how things get crazy sometimes ESPECIALLY in an emergency hospital during covid times. But all of these events are inexcusable. There were so many things wrong with this experience from start to finish. The misinformation about procedures that could be performed, the over all lack of communication and client care, and then discharging the patient with the wrong medication, NONE of this should've happened in a well functioning facility. ESPECIALLY one as well known as OAH. I will never be taking my animals here again. There are plenty of other emergency facilities in the area that would never treat clients or patients like this. read more

After a 3 hour wait, a failure to perform radiology on a limb injury emergency-visit, a $288 bill, a "forgotten" but billed and charged item (the sling, we had to go back to get it,) and a MISDIAGNOSIS (see photo, note lumbrosacral pain, but they'll contest that this is a typo, not a misdiagnosis.) We came in for a suspected and then confirmed (by a different animal hospital) CCL tear with no mention of this condition on his discharge. The surgery office then calls days later and the woman has the gall to be expressly nasty and say to my partner "we're not playing games, you can call us!" For real? I got my boy's radiology done and his surgery scheduled in Long Island before their surgery office even called me. read more

To say I was impressed with OAH is an understatement! I brought my cat Winfrey there at the recommendation of my regular Vet for an emergent ultrasound for a possible pancreatitis. Having a positive diagnosis, he was admitted to their hospital where he got excellent care for 3 days. I was kept up to date with 2 daily update calls from his Drs. And the staff was more than accommodating, getting me updates even when I called, even at midnight! I have an almost 14 year old chorkie. She's about 11 lbs and truly one of the most important things in my life. I've taken such great care of her over these 13 and a half years. Vet annual visits, surgeries, eye specialists, you name it. We're originally from CT so she's always gone to her vet there. We recently moved to Jersey and had to switch vets. A few days ago my dog gets sick from something she ate outside while on a walk in the neighborhood. As I'm an experienced dog mom I monitor her behavior over the next couple of hours. I decide it's time to take her to the vet as she's vomited a few times and is expediting diarrhea. I call our new local vet, they didn't have any appointments available until next week. So they recommend Oradell. I call oradell and they suggest I bring her as an emergency visit, it's 7AM and inform me it's $265 for the visit. I bring my dog who was pretty lethargic and I know at this point she's going to need an IV for dehydration and antibiotic to fight whatever it is she ate. The doctor Gallows comes in and tells us she has a 50/50 chance at surviving. I'm shocked and burst into tears as I've had this precious creature in my life for 13 years. She's been sick before and has fought through stomach issues. I tell this doctor that she's going to be fine. They inform me she has to stay overnight as her vitals were low. I'm then presented with a $5,066 bill for a low end and $10,000 for a high end. I'm disgusted and shocked by this bill amount. I inform them that I cannot financially afford to pay this amount. What can be done so I can take my dog home with me. They encourage me to keep her overnight or there was a possibly she would need to be euthanized. I've cared for my dog for 13 years and was never put in that situation. As I don't have $5,000 I apply for the credit card options they suggested. I ask if they have payment plans and their financial secretary is very rude, MaryJo Plum. I don't understand how someone so rude can work in a vet hospital. In my 13 years of being a dog mom have I ever received such treatment from a facility. The bill states they ran every possible test, put crazy amounts of medicine in my dog just to bring up the bill even higher! I'm grateful that she's alive and they treated her well but 3 ultrasounds, an X-ray, numerous fentanyl shots seem excessive for an 11lb dog! They encourage me to leave my dog another night and at this point I'm enraged because I told them I don't have the $ to pay for another night. They inform me that the bill will not increase anymore than the amount it's at as long as I pick her up by 7am the next day. I arrived at 6am to pick up my dog. My dog has had surgery before to remove a cyst, stayed overnight at her vet hospital then and that bill was nowhere near the $7,900 Oradell is charging me. Im waiting for their billing manager to contact me and go over the bill line by line. I was assured the bill would not surpass $5,500 and a few days later I receive a bill for $7,900. This business is grossly abusing customers and their pets. The financial staff is absolutely horrible and have no sympathy whatsoever. The doctors seem to just run every single possible test to make the bill higher. I understand every business has costs but what they're doing is extorting people in times of stress and put you in situations that you are left with no choice! My dog did need medical attention but I wish I knew the area and the reputation this place has. Overcharge and treat clients horribly! read more

Hold on to your wallet! One recent, sad, Sunday night my 13+ year old Schnoodle, Harry, went into heart failure. At 230am he was coughing blood, panting and looking at us with pleading eyes that begged for an end to his suffering. I called OAH and spoke to a nice woman (Jackie was her name I believe) and arranged to bring him in for euthanasia. I asked how much this would cost so that we were prepared, and she excused herself for a moment, and came back after consulting someone and told us $135. A week later we received a bill for $275! I have now sent 2 emails and called 6 times (leaving messages) and have received no response. If you don't believe me, call their number and hit 205 for the billing department. No...One...Will...Ever...Answer...Ever. You are sent to voicemail that they do not respond to. Not returning a phone call or email, when it should be pretty easy to verify that what I am saying is true (ask Jackie "did you quote this guy $135?) is just horrible customer service. It's especially cruel when you are dealing with someone who is mourning the loss of the best friend he ever had. Maybe someone made a mistake, I'm not unreasonable, if that's the case let's split the difference. Since I can't reach anyone in the office by calling, my only recourse is social media. PS The veterinary staff was awesome the night of the procedure. Caring, professional, sympathetic and competent. I have nothing but praise for them. It's the administrative/billing staff that has undone all the good feeling that I had about OAH and tarnished the memory and taken 4 stars off a 5 star review. read more

I'm sorry to everybody who has had a negative experience with Oradell Animal Hospital but I can't sing their praises enough. My cat Hunter has heart disease, which I found out from them after my primary vet did not notice it, and was going into congenital heart failure. I brought him because he was having trouble breathing and Oradell was the only animal hospital within an hour that had a cardiologist on staff. The cardiologist who treated us was Dr. O'Malley and the Critical Care doctor who oversaw Hunter was Dr. Perlmutter and they are legitimate god sends. (Dr. O'Malley even text me a picture of Hunter when I asked because he was kept there for two nights!) Without a doubt, Hunter would have died had it not been for the team at Oradell. They called multiple times with updates (and didn't seem annoyed when I called *more* for updates) and were very clear about the multiple paths I could take in Hunter's treatment. I'm so thankful to them that I have Hunter back home with a plan in place for his long term care. If I could give more stars I would. Forever grateful for them. Forever thankful that I have more time with Hunter. I could really feel how deeply and genuinely they cared for Hunter. They were legitimately better than any human doctor I've ever had. Due to Covid there are extra precautions in place. You drive up and call their number from your phone and they'll designate an area for you to park and come assist you. (Also, there was a couple in the parking lot who overheard my not so quiet cries on the phone to my boyfriend about Hunter's outlook. You were in a white truck with your dog and, as you were pulling away, said that you'd pray for us. Thank you so much! We've had nothing, but good experiences in the 20 plus years of going to OAH. We've brought our dogs, cats and most recently our bird. We switched about 10-15 years ago to having Dr. Ross Koenig as our primary vet for the past and present dog and cat and he has never steered us wrong. With our last dog he helped us through orthopedic, heart issues and multiple types of cancer. Also have to give recognition to all the staff there As they are always friendly and willing to give a helping hand. You have all been there through good times and bad. Oradell Animal Hospital is the only 24/7/365 ER animal facility in the area, and the many positive Yelp reviews I read through bleary eyes this morning were reassuring. So we went -- no appointment required. This is our first experience here and I'm impressed. Clean, well staffed and modern -- our 1 year old toy poodle in acute distress was seen immediately, examined and treated. We were in and out in about an hour with medicines, instructions, special food and a diagnosis. Dr. Bartholomew took good care of us. She is knowledgeable, pleasant and handled our dog as if she were her own. We left feeling confident that our pup received the best care possible and optimistic that she will make a full recovery. You pay a premium for state of the art emergency vet service in a fully staffed facility, and it is worth every penny. OVH uses skilled nurses to triage your pet in the waiting area to expedite treatment. Very much like an ER for humans and I appreciate that efficiency and sensibility. Our regular vet has served us well over the years and I trust him, but his prices are not that much cheaper than OVH and his hours are limited. It is also not lost on me that modern technology is an important part of veterinary medicine these days, something our old school vet does not employ at his modest facility. It may be time for us to embrace greater modernity in connection with our dogs' health, just as we do with our own, and while loyalty means a lot to me, so do results. read more

I always tell my husband that we are sooooo very lucky to have Dr. Koenig as our vet for our dogs! Two weeks ago our senior dog was having a bad case of liquid diarrhea. Guessing it was the new dog food or piece of corn beef she ate. We tried to schedule an early appointment with Dr Koenig but he was booked 3 weeks out! I was quite worried because even though my dog was still her playful, always hungry self, having diarrhea meant she wasn't absorbing any nutrients. Boiled chicken & plain rice didn't help at all. So I called Oradell Animal Hospital & left a message for Dr Koenig describing the situation. He immediately called me back that day and had a prescription ready for me to pick up. It took about a day for the RX to work & slowly my dog's stool started to form. You can't imagine how happy I was to see semi mushy stool versus liquid diarrhea! Another week of RX was needed yesterday & Dr Koenig had that filled immediately. I thank him & my dog thanks him for such prompt responses. It's the genuine caring & top notch professionalism that keeps me with Dr Koenig! He's always there for you & your fur baby. The BEST vet in my book!!! read more

My puppy was sent here for an emergency. He was hospitalized for two nights. The vets kept telling us that they will call us. They only call once. I had to kept calling the hospital to check up on my puppy. Right now, due to the pandemic, no one was allowed to stay with the pets inside. I haven't see my puppy for two days. I am SUPER worried! Then this afternoon, I received a phone call from the billing department, which I found out that my puppy was in was oxygen!!!!! The vet NEVER mentioned a word about that. I really wished that the vet could at least call me to update the situation as she promised. It REALLY REALLY concerned me. When I heard about the oxygen, I was heart broken! My cat was put in the oxygen right before she passed away. And the way that his hospital handling things even concerned me more. It looked like that they just want to make money rather than take care the animals. Till now, I still don't know what exactly was my puppy's condition. So frustrating. I had to rush my dog very early this morning for some horrible coughing and a sleepless night. I arrived there approximately 4:30 AM. Thank goodness no one else was in the waiting room...or so I thought.. After a quick assessment we were put in a small room with the door shut... after almost 2 hours not one person came in to give me an update as to when we would be seen... The girl at the desk was unfriendly and uncaring...when I asked when we would be seen she said we were next and the doctor was done with prior emergency, still no one came in... I decided my dog needed to be seen so I left... she didn't care, apologize or try to make us happy in any way! On the way home we stopped at VEG on Route 17 and was handled with care and kindness... and the attention Cooper needed! I will never go to Oradell ever again! The front office should represent the Doctors and practice they work for... BAD JOB! BAD representation...shame on you. read more

Exceptional care! Dr. Lee was extremely compassionate and caring towards our pet. They did not over charge in comparison to to the Veterinary Urgent Care in union nj that basically just advised to euthanize our pet and charged a substantial amount to do far less treatment. I will always be extremely grateful to Oradell Hospital for their compassion and level of care. Not to mention the hospital is extremely clean and updated even in comparison to some of the hospitals for humans. read more

Waited over 6 hours for my pet to be treated (was told a 2 hour wait on the phone). Was not allowed to leave and come back. Animals that came in hours after mine were treated and released before I was able to even speak to the vet. This experience was extremely stressful for both my fur baby and I. Megan, The point is I had to wait nearly 24 hours for an ultrasound to be performed and pay $5,500, for my dog to be kept comfortable overnight, while waiting 22 hours for an ultrasound for a critically ill patien. The next day ultrasound result interpreted by the vet said less than 50 percent recovery that Was it. the end. I wish I had the result on admission and not go through 24 hours of hell. read more

I took my three year old guinea pig, Ernie here for bladder stone surgery after being referred by my local vet. It's not easy finding a good vet that specializes in exotics, especially surgery. The hospital is a large operation and fully staffed. I thought they took very good care of Ernie. Dr. Knutson is an excellent vet and very compassionate and competent. I would recommend for exotic animals but they are very expensive so be prepared for that, esp if no pet insurance as in my case. Inital scheduled visit of $235. Surgery was $2500+ and that's with 1 night stay for monitoring and everything going to plan. Ernie is on the mend and hopefully will make a full recovery so in general I'm happy with OAH. read more

I have only been to this hospital three times, and each time I was impressed. Taking a beloved pet to an emergency facility is never what you hope to do, but sometimes it's necessary. The staff, from the receptionists to the billing staff to the nurses, techs, and veterinarians, are uniformly kind, caring, and supportive. My sweet dog was always given the best treatment, and when the time came for us to end his suffering humanely, I was able to be by his side (outdoors, in a makeshift tent) despite COVID-related restrictions. Every effort was made to keep him and me feeling comfortable and supported, and I appreciated it immensely during that very difficult time. Another thing I will say is that at no time did anybody pressure me to select expensive or (in my view) unnecessary tests or procedures. Maintaining my dog's quality of life was most important, rather than running tests and conducting procedures just because they were available. I know some folks find Oradell expensive, and it can be if you choose to hospitalize your pet, but if that is not necessary then you won't pay much more (in my experience) than you would for a more traditional veterinarian's office. read more

I walked in on a emergency visit to euthanize my rabbit and the receptionist was wonderful and quickly got us into a quiet room. And above all, I cannot thank Dr. Boren enough. He displayed so much care and is a great veterinarian. He was in back to back appointments and still managed to make time to deal with my rabbit - I appreciated that. He made the process move quickly, and efficiently. I completely trusted him with my rabbit. I will always go to Dr. Boren with any future rabbits I might have ,and highly recommend him to anyone with exotic pets. read more

They have changed over the years since I first started taking my pets there when they were in Oradell from one of the caring, compassionate service-oriented veterinary hospital that balanced cost and service to you to one that put cost above service this has cost me great sadness seeing the decline of their caring. read more

They treat rabbits and saved my 7 month old from GI stasis. But I honestly should've waited 3 hours and gone to my regular vet. They wouldn't tell us about the costs of treating the rabbit, despite us explaining how we can't afford to spend too much. CHARGED US OVER $2,000. we explained we can't afford to pay a lot for our rabbit, why the hell would you not tell us that the charges are that high? We saw two other rabbit specialists after for two more incidents of GI stasis. They all said it could be treated from home and that's what we did due to not having enough money for overnight stays. There is no better place to put your pet to sleep. I brought in my cat Slater on a Sunday morning. I was taken to a private room that looks like a living room. Our pet had 3 seizures in 24 hours. We called Oradell and stated this and then began to ask a question but the woman who answer the phone was RUDE. She started to over talk and provided unnecessary comments without being patient enough to listen to our concern. I tried to to tell the woman I had specific questions but she interrupted and said "It does not matter you will only be able to come in emergency." I told he r have a good day and ended the call as I could not believe the things she was saying . If tis is the start of the experience you receive here, I would NOT recommend anyone to take their ill per who IS a family member to Oradell Animal Hospital. read more

Beware! Tell you one price and charge another! Used to be a caring animal practice. No longer. They only care about charging obscene prices for pet care that they are blackmailing pet owners to pay if they want to save their pets. I wouldn't recommend anyone to bring their pets here!! PS I spoke to the business manager. She is as uncaring in person as she is on this site!! She told me pets are a luxury. So, all you pet owners are not rescuing a pet, you're securing a luxury according to her! read more
