Our family found OC Crazies about five years ago when my sons wanted to work on their public speaking, and honestly, it was a game changer. We had struggled to find anything age-appropriate that wasn't just debate prep for kids or Toastmasters for adults, so discovering their tween and teen improv workshops felt like a huge win. Since then, all four of my kids have gone through their programs: Tween, Teen, and most recently the Littlest Lil Crazies for my younger daughters, which is their newest class. Cherie, the owner, is amazing. She has been nothing but patient and professional with our kids and she has done wonders in bringing them out of their shells on stage! The growth we've seen in our kids over the years has been truly incredible. Beyond the obvious fun stuff like stage presence, comedic timing, and vocal projection, they've built real confidence in public speaking and have truly learned to think on their feet. My oldest is now a high school freshman and still talks about the OC Crazies workshops as some of the best classes he's taken, he says he uses the skills he learned there often, both in class and in his extracurriculars. read more

Sherie the owner is rude and unprofessional. She is in her late 80s so I tried to cut some slack, she has a lot of trouble remember class schedules and date changes she makes and tells everybody to write down. that by it self is workable but on top of that Sherie is rude and nasty with people all the time ive seen her be stressed and take it out on who ever does something she doesn't like next. Way to many personal stories about famous people she claims to know.not a surprise the owner deleted the google review page. Do your research before you give Sherie any of your money she is a snake tongue liar. read more

I found OC crazies through simple Google search, and signed up for the basic improvisation course. I had read about improvisation a lot but no actual experience. I am so happy my first experience was with OC crazies. Cherie, our instructor, was just excellent. She had plans for each class but at the same time was great at adapting to what was happening in the room. I am a university professor and in my opinion the hardest thing for being a good instructor is finding the right level of challenge for the class. Cherie found that balance so masterfully. Even though there were a wide range of skills in the room, I think everyone ended up having a lot of fun. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun each session too. The graduation show was my absolute favorite. My wife and a few of my friends got to watch me being all loose and crazy. It was just fantastic. A few of my friends also became interested to enroll after just watching the graduation show. I know the reason that I like the graduation show so much. In the academic world we call such an ending to a program a "culminating experience." It's supposed to get the students to experience the so what of everything you did during the program. I think the graduation show did just that. I think what allowed us to be able to do a show after just six week of training was that Cherie does most of her teaching during actual improvisation exercises. During her classes, you are mostly on stage doing an improve act or watching your classmate attempt it. Seeing them succeed or make mistakes are also great way to continue learning. I had so much fun that I think this was the highlight of my 2023 and I am planning to redo the same class as I think I can still improve and also because it's just so much fun. read more

Having done stand-up part time over a decade ago in various LA clubs, I was looking to get back into the scene since relocating to OC. A friend mentioned Cherie's classes, however, the only openings she had were in Improv. A bit skeptical at first as I had no initial desire for Improv, I decided to take a gamble and enroll in her Beginning and Intermediate Improv classes. I'm surely thankful that I did. Learning the basics of Improv I believe provided a strong foundation to build upon my acting and comedy skills. As an attorney by day and joke-slinger by night, being able to think on your feet and naturally flow with whatever confronts you is a valuable skill. Cherie's vast experience and innate ability to bring out the best in each student is a huge asset. In both beginner and intermediate classes, I watched how she would work with students of various abilities and adroitly help each student's deficits while also honing and further polishing the attributes each student did well. I participated in a several week improv class along with five other improv students in 2010. In trying to find an improv course, I found that there were literally hundreds in Los Angeles/Hollywood, but it was difficult to find many options in Orange County. I'm really glad for Orange County Crazies for their location, which was convenient for me, and their evening classes, which worked with my schedule. The exercises with the other members of my class were fun and entertaining, and I still think about them even after the fact. Our graduation show was really a great time. read more

I took a recent stand-up class at OC crazies. I had an amazing time! The grad show was a blast! My expectations of how it would go were basic, that I would get some background instruction on what is funny, get a basic routine and be ready to hit the road, which I did get, but much more. Cherrie the instructor didn't just instruct, she mentored and encouraged our little group to push ourselves. She helped us "find the funny" in our routine and improve it. Best of all she saw our classes' needs and adapted to them, seeming to adjust lesson plans to loosen us up and make us better and more natural performers. I had a great time and recommend anyone looking to try something new and get out of their comfort zone give the OC crazies a try. I will for sure be back for some of their other classes. read more

I took an improv class here after just missing their standup comedy class. And I learned a tremendous amount - both about myself and what I wanted to get out of the class, stage presence, being comfortable by not being comfortable, warmup techniques, sharing the stage...the list goes on. I see these other reviews here, but I can attest to this experience being all about the attitude you bring into the theater. Yea sometimes we misunderstood each other when attempting something, but by working through it - everyone had a better understanding for the piece we were attempting to perform. Don't waste your time and money on this one. Very "old fashioned" and not in a good way. Cherie, the teacher (who prefers reminiscing about the old, old days to teaching), had us do racist and sexist exercises that were incredibly outdated. When I jotted down notes on a couple warmups (the only valuable part of class), Cherie called me at home on the weekend and threatened to sue me for intellectual theft. No thanks. I took a stand-up class at OC Crazies, and it surpassed all expectations. In a relatively short amount of time, Cherie was able to help me (and my classmates) go from very rough (or non-existent) material to something that was actually refined and worked well in front of a crowd. She has years of experience working with top talent, and she knows what plays well in a set. In addition, the class environment was nurturing and constructive, so I got to experiment with ideas and get feedback on those without concern of being heckled or booed. I found the facilities to be top notch, and I was surprised that something that nice existed where it was. In addition to the instruction and facilities, seeing how the acts of my classmates evolved in 6 weeks was incredible. The class was capped by a performance in front of a full house in a theater. Standing up and doing 10 minutes of material you've written and learned to perform is incredibly gratifying, and I'd recommend it to anyone who thinks they might possibly be interested. For me, this was significant in understanding what it takes to go from being a "funny person" (as described by friends) to being funny on stage. My experience was something I truly enjoyed, and the lessons and methods have stuck with me. Absolutely worth the time and money. read more

I absolutely loved the Improv class with Cherie. She's incredibly caring and sweet and went out of her way to help me with my character development by sending me a book in the mail. We did all classes via Zoom and even when no one else showed up, she did exercises with me and pushed me to break through barriers. She even helped me create one of my favorite characters that I came up with on the fly in class! I had so much fun and the class was fairly priced. I highly recommend it! Zoom isn't always ideal, but we had fun screen sharing and voicing different videos, so it was definitely still worth it. She even gave us the option to perform in the theater when it's safe to do so. read more

Just took a course and our graduation was last Friday January 28th. The class was very informative with a great very patient instructor. I learned alot from this class like stage presence voice presentation acting out what you are going to say. The instructor Cherie was very patient understanding and very helpful. She encouraged us to be the best that we can be. Graduation was very fun. Enjoyed it alot. I wish this class could go on much longer.I would recomend this class to anyone that would like to learn standup comedy. read more

I chose to take an improv class at Orange County Crazies after finding found out that the teacher Cherie (owner of the place) wrote a few books. So I thought she must be knowledgeable. The course was also very expensive, and I thought it must be really good. The course took place over several weeks. It started with about 10 students, but a few dropped quickly. Not sure if they got a refund though. The class ended up being a complete farce. There was absolutely no planning, no class material was provided, and the teacher was just making stuff off the cuff. She couldn't even remember what she talked about from one class to the next! Just as Logan was describing in his review, Cherie is an old bitter women that just goes on and on rambling about various topics totally unrelated to improv. After the classes, a graduation show took placee, for which we had no real preparation. We had to invite friends and family who had to pay an entrance fee to see us embarrass ourselves because totally unprepared. I can guarantee you that I have learned NOTHING from the Orange County Crazies Improv class, and I will NEVER go back in this place. read more

One of the best theatre acting experiences of my life. I am so grateful for the experience. I learned how to stretch myself as an actor, how to think intuitively when performing, build real solid characters, and be personally responsible for my decisions as a performer. Cherie is demanding, relentless, and expects much of her students and performers as a teacher and coach indeed, but she is also kind, funny, and compassionate as a person. She always has time for feedback and shows honest interest in each individual. No doubt about it, you will be stretched and challenged here while you learn. Cherie operates her classes with a no-nonsense, real world attitude. If you're not looking to grow as a actor or performer then don't take a class here. I took the stand up comedy class and it was a great experience... from the venue, the stage, and most importantly the instruction- all top notch. Don't let the location or the appearance from outside fool you, once you enter this place it resonates that feel of a true theater. My fellow classmates and I performed our graduation stand up routines in front of a sold out, wonderful audience. We are all still in touch and each of us have been invited back to perform at various comedy shows ever since. This place is an absolute joke. I've attended two classes here and I was appalled by the subpar teaching and the absolute lack of professionalism by the owner. Instead of teaching she would ramble off like an insane women making hardly any sense and if you would try to kindly suggest we get back to the learning she would get all angry. The entire class leads up to a graduation show that ended up being a complete nightmare because the entire class was entirely unprepared by the lack of proper teaching and communication by the owner. I've taken improv classes at the Groundlings, South Coast Repertory, Second City and this was by the far the absolute worst experience. I would never come back here again. read more

I signed up for stand up classes months before the are to begin. With about a month to go, I emailed Cherie that I've been really sick and unable to take the classes. There are other issues involved as well that were unforeseen. They refused to stop the cashing of my check. I waited to hear from the "Board" for days and then had to cancel the check. Next I refused a threatening email saying they will take me to court over $350. What school doesn't understand when a person is having health issues?????? Don't go here. I should've done my research! What school is lacking enrollment so much that they're willing to threaten, harass you and take you to court for being unable to physically and emotionally attend the school! Go somewhere else. I've taken several stand up courses and Cherie was recommended by a friend of mine. I should have done my research on her before I took her class. First I kept having joke structure problems that I needed help with. I asked Cherie about it. But instead she gave me a book on how to write sketch comedy. I was disillusioned with this class right away because even though she tried to help us she did not have any good techniques to help. She talked to me over the phone for about an hour to try to offer advice. But her advice was just trying to fit in jokes that didn't seem to work for me . Anyway we were supposed to have a good set and by the end of the class I didn't even show up to the showcase because the set was just awful and didn't seem to work. Save your money and research good standup classes before you take her class. Oh and to add she seemed like she was to busy outside of the class to really offer any advice and she was even checking baseball scores during one of our classes. Please don't waste your money on this class. It even made it worse paying for train from LA Once a week to come to this class and spending 70$ on train and uber just to take a class where she didn't even seem that good. read more

I have taken both improv and stand up comedy classes at the OC Crazies theater and I have learned so much about performing in front of an audience here. The teachers are all well experienced and truly care about seeing the students succeed. The theater owner Cherie can be a little tough at times, but it is only because she wants to see the students do good work. She gives you a lot of assignments to do, but if you actually do the work, you will get exponentially better. I know that I have grown over the years thanks to the instruction here. My dad had experience working with Cherie Kerr about 20 years ago on a comedy show. He has passed since then, so it was a wonderful surprise that I could still have the opportunity to train under Cherie. Her love of comedy is very evident and her rich experience in the field is certainly felt. I was taking the class at a very difficult time in my life and it provided an outlet for honesty & solace. The other members in the group were awesome and we definitely had a good experience together. Cherie provided encouragement for each person equally regardless of their experience level or whether they were struggling. Although I don't think I will pursue stand-up professionally, taking this class certainly taught me about myself and challenged me to do something that was very scary for me. I took two improv classes (beginning and intermediate) and a stand-up comedy class with the OC Crazies. My intention was to stretch beyond my comfort zone--I did! I thoroughly enjoyed all three classes and would highly recommend Cherie and the OC Crazies to anyone who wants an educational and fun experience in a supportive environment. An added bonus is Cherie's long history with some of comedy's household names and her great stories. The Funniest Place in Orange County! The Orange County Crazies is a great place to learn the art of improvisation. They offer classes with lots of one on one training in a positive helpful environment. It's wonderful to learn and laugh while you are doing it. At the end of the class you preform a improv show that is always fun and hilarious. I was at one and I over heard someone say that "they hadn't laughed so much in a long time and that the show was funnier then comedy movies had been in years!" The theater is nice and parking is easy as well. They have student shows as well as graduate shows there. You don't need to drive to Los Angeles or fly to New York to learn improvisation or see a hilarious show come to the Orange County Crazies! read more
