My family has been patients of Dr. Michael Swearingen for around eight years. (Previously we had been patients of my husband's uncle, who retired.) I am extremely happy with the quality of our care. Dr. Swearingen is not only very personable, but he is very professional. I feel like he is very up to date with the latest research and standards in eye care. My husband (who is a physician) and I have both had eye issues and I feel like they were dealt with with a minimal amount of hassle. The staff is very professional and it's very easy to schedule appointments. I feel like the staff really works hard at making sure that I can maximize my insurance (for contacts) and they are understanding at dealing with flexible benefits. My husband is really picky about his frames, and the they have gone above and beyond to find him exactly what he wants. They are also really great at notifying us when our glasses or contact lenses have arrived. read more

It's been a while since my eyes have been tested. Gave me the option of an extra test and cost. No pressure just explained why its preformed and how it helps the Dr. Staff seems to have a good time together working, which makes you feel comfortable. Very helpful in picking frames, especially if your not sure of your face shape. Color tones etc. Show you all kind of frames so many to chose from. I had allergic eyes for almost a month now, and Dr. Chen really helped me out. He prescribed some eye drops, and crucially asked if there was something new, like shampoo. This one question is so important because it turns out I am allergic to a shampoo, and this was not something other doctors asked me about. This was my first visit to the office. I was immediately greeted by Jacqueline at the front desk. She was so friendly and welcoming. I have been coming to OC Eyecare Optometry for many years. I cannot imagine going anywhere else for glasses and contacts. To begin, when you call, they answer the phone. It is usually Jacqueline. You do not listen to menu after menu, push 1, and then push 2. When you call, you get a real person. Next, I do not remember having to ever wait for an appointment. They do not run late. Also, their optical department is amazing. I came in today with a pair of sunglasses that were loose, Michelle fixed them within minutes! Like magic! I order my contacts through Lindsey and she always makes sure I have everything to get my rebates. I cannot say enough great things about this place. I have gone to OC Eyecare for 45 years and never once had a complaint of any kind. They were recently bought out by another company. Both my husband and I went for our yearly check ups and will never return! We had problem after problem and dealt with the most rude people, especially the technician. She is a nasty bully to say the least. The doctor wanted to fit me in a different brand of contact lense. I have worn Acuvue 2 for years with absolutely no problems. I couldn't figure out why he was insistent on changing my brand, especially since he had me try two other brands that did not work for me. Come to find out, OC Eyecare does not sell Acuvue 2 so they wanted to fit me in something they sold. After trying two different brands, I told them I wanted to go back to Acuvue 2 and would purchase them from Walgreen's. That set the technician off! It was a battle getting my correct Acuvue prescription from her. She was a rude, bully and after arguing with her, she hung up on me. My husband had a problem getting his glasses that he paid for until finally the manager got involved. There are too many great eye doctors in our area to deal with these people. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Swearingen for years now and he is fantastic. So friendly and yet does a thorough exam each time. He has great suggestions for the right contacts for my needs and is always up to date with the latest offerings. Appointments are usually speedy without being rushed. He's also good with kids; when my very shy child was younger he got them to smile and feel comfortable and now that they are a teenager, he still has a great rapport with them. My husband sees Dr. Dougal as he has eye issues that may eventually require surgery. He has been very happy with Dr. Dougal and how Dr. Dougal has provided many other options for solving my husband's issues and treats surgery as a last resort. The office staff are always friendly and helpful. I always get confused about my benefits and they are always willing to patiently explain them. And they always have suggestions for saving money like manufacturer's specials and coupons plus their own discounts. Their goal is really to help patients out as much as possible and they definitely go above and beyond. The folks we have worked with in the optical department are helpful too, although my experience is mostly with contacts which has been great. I have recommended Eyecare Optometry to many people, especially Dr. Swearingen! read more

My second visit here and I have to say it's been the best service I can imagine for my eyes. I have pretty intense prescriptions and it's nice to have a doctor who can have an answer and helpful solution to all my issues. All the staff is helpful and informative on questions you have with insurances and costs and give some useful tips and advice on how to best manage what you might need to get. Even if they aren't close by for you, I stress that this is the most easy going and helpful experience you will have. Don't settle for less with your eyes! read more

My wife and I have been going to Dr. Sweaingen for a couple of years based on the recommendation of a friend. He is a great doctor . . . knowledgeable, friendly, personable. Never had a problem, until now. Recently, they introduced a $25 no show fee and for the first time we were not able to make the latest appointment because of a delay at another doctor. Within a few days we received the invoice, $50 for the two of us. I went in to pay and told the office clerk I was not happy with the fee and would probably go to another doctor. There was no response. No "I'm sorry", no "It's our policy", nothing. How does a professional office justify trading $50 for future exams fees & eye glass purchases? Makes no sense to me. But like I said to the clerk, it's your policy, and I will pay. Too bad, I live 3 mins from their office and really like Dr. Swearingen. I wonder if he and the other doctors know this is happening? And if that wasn't enough, I purchased a new pair of glasses about a year ago, $600+. After having them for a few months the laminated lens started to separate and I took them back. When the replacement lens arrived, I was told that the lens had been completely redone because they discovered that the location of the "little black dot" was originally in the wrong spot. That explained why I had to look down slightly to see clearly at a distance. Four months later, the lends has once again separated. When I asked for a refund, I was told NO. The clerk asked if I was dropping the glasses and that's maybe why they are separating. I don't think so. So now I wait for the new lenses . . . for the third time. I don't think they would be happy if I sent them an invoice for MY time. read more
