A must have - it's like an orange creamsicle

A total underrated hot dog spot. No frills - just a good take out or late night spot. What makes this place attractive to locals and tourists is that it's cheap and fast. It's sort of Montreal's version of in and out for hot dogs lol though they serve other items like chicken fingers and burgers too. Even poutine though that's not what they're known for. The definite must try and have is their orange julep drink - it's like a frosty orange juice and a tip ask for extra ice to make it colder!!!

Orange Julep is one of those places you just don't forget. That big orange sphere right off the highway -- you see it from a mile away. You can't miss it. I honestly hadn't been in years, so this felt like a little throwback moment. First of all, the hot dogs are huge. They're grilled (not steamed), and one was more than enough for me. Add the combo and you get a big portion of fries too, so you're definitely not leaving hungry. And obviously, if you're going to Orange Julep, you know what you're going for or you have to try ! The Orange Julep drink. Cold, creamy, and exactly how you remember it. The green cups are iconic, and it's been around since 1932, which says everything it needs to. They even have merch now ! Cute little shirts and totes! perfect gift shop if you're a tourist in Montreal.

I was originally planning to go to Decarie Hot Dog for lunch, but it was closed for the holidays. As I was taking the Metro back downtown, I remembered this place and myself having never come here, so I decided to get off the Metro to stop by here. The reviews already covered the setup well. It's not much, with a small standing area inside for dine-in, with a couple tables outside open during the summer. I had 2 steamies all dressed and a medium orange julep. The steamies were very good. The orange julep was...fine, but too sweet for my liking. I will say for the north of $20 pricing I paid here, I don't think I got my money's worth. It'll likely be one of those where now that I've gone once, I don't need to go again.

I was told by many friends and social media foodies that this is a local spot and should be at least visited once, and it did not disappoint!l the line was long because the register is so close to the entrance but the rest of the space is for pick up and eat standing. The atmosphere on a Friday night can be busy because of students, tourists and local car meet ups. The food did not disappoint as we got hotdog, poutine, and orange juice. A guy from NY/NJ, fresh orange juice is hard to come by.

I saw plenty of online travel blogs and YouTube videos recommending to visit Orange Julep, so the day I had a car, I stopped here for a quick snack. The building itself is what stands out and the reason most people would visit, I imagine. I tried the Orange Julep, and it's very similar in taste to an Orange Julius. I also tried the Frappe which is the Julep mixed with ice cream. Both good, but having had gown up on Orange Julius, nothing unique. I also had poutine, which I found too salty. Great to take a picture of, not bad for a julep drink but nothing special about the food.

Came for the orange juice but the poutine was the star. The orange juice taste like sweet water with a hint of orange flavour. Had to dilute this. The poutine was fresh and delicious, squeaky and melt cheese curds. Order was ready within 3 minutes. Plenty of parking and seatings.

i am OBSESSED with the orange julep!!! i had this place multiple times while visiting montreal! i love that it's open late at night it's the perfect midnight snack!! i got a poutine and hot dog combo and added a michigan style hot dog to try both hot dogs!! both were good, but the classic hot dog is SO GOOD. the flavor of the relish, mustard, onions, & slaw is soo delicious! i could eat so many of those hot dogs and the orange julep is perfect i wish i could have this everyday plenty of benches and seating around the giant orange, also a large few tables in the back of the parking lot that is covered and tented and a very large parking lot!!

A landmark and tourist stop that is fine for a visit but does not live up to the hype. Its best known for its julep drinks which taste like orange creamsicle -- though not everyone's taste. Expensive and staff are often rushed and therefore grumpy. While my partner loves the poutine, and my chicken sandwich was decent, this is truly a stop that does not live up to the hype.

Iconic big orange sphere along Decarie serving up delicious fast food and orange drinks. I got the small orange julep, which has a very nostalgic taste, like an orangiscle pop. It's rather expensive for the size of the cup, though.

A very niche restaurant, fun for a tourist like myself to check out. The poutine was personally salty to my tastes, but still decent. I liked their orange juice beverage and wish I had gotten a larger size. Would recommend going with another person because the amount of poutine is relatively generous - lots of gravy and cheese. Outside of main downtown, so best to go if you have your own car, but I think the public transit would still be able to take you there. The service is fast and the workers speak French and English, so not super daunting for someone doesn't speak French, haha. Also, not bad pricing, $20-something CAD, so roughly $15 USD.

Orange Julep is a true Montreal institution, and it's worth a stop for the novelty alone. The namesake Orange Julep drink is... interesting. It's definitely not your typical orange juice; it's thick and creamy, almost like a creamsicle or a milkshake with an orange tang. You can really taste that ice cream element, which might not be for everyone, but it's a unique flavor experience. As a local street food spot, it delivers on that vibe. The outdoor-only seating is part of its charm, adding to the classic drive-in feel. My kids gave the hotdogs a solid 8 out of 10, so they're clearly doing something right there for the younger crowd. Plus, there's ample parking, which is a huge plus in this city. While the Julep itself is a bit of an acquired taste, it's a fun and convenient place to grab a quick, casual bite, especially if you're looking for something authentically Montreal.

Gibeau Orange Julep's "Trio" of Orange Julep drink, Poutine and hot dog with relish, onions, mustard, and slaw

Met a European friend who I hadn't seen in decades and decided we try out Gibeau Orange Julep, the iconic Montreal hot dog stand in the shape of a giant orange. I'm a native New Yorker whose childhood memories include Nathan's and Wetson's, and also grew up on Orange Julius. Given their names proximity to Orange Julius, ordered a "Trio" with an Orange Julep drink, hot dog and my first ever poutine. She had an Orange Julep and her first corn dog ever, a.k.a. their "Pogo." From my understanding Orange Julius's drink dates back to 1926 and Orange Julep started after that, but not clear what the connection is, but both delicious drinks taste if not identical, only discernible if they are side-by-side. The hot dog was solid with onions, relish, mustard and some type of slaw. And the poutine, rich with cheese curds and gravy, as tasted as expected... plus something to clog an artery. My friend especially enjoyed her first time corn dog with mustard. Note - Some may find Orange Julep pricey for a cheap eats. I'd recommend heading out to Gibeau Orange Julep on Boulevard Décarie at least once when visiting Montreal. The fun building is a sight-to-be-seen for nostalgia buffs and kids.

Came to try the orange julep and was very pleasantly surprised by the lightness! It was clear that fresh squeezed orange juice was used but thereafter, where I expected something heavy or thick (it was compared to a orange creamsicle after all), it was pretty liquidy and finished with just the slightest creaminess. It was nice! After a few sips though, I did think it got a bit too sweet though so it's best to share. It was also fun being able to spot this giant orange from the plane and we also giggled every time it showed up on maps. It's also an orange sphere there!

We walked around a lot in this area and noticed that Dunn's looked old school and had smoked meat so we gave it a try. The wood and leather booths gave this 99 year old establishment an old school vibe. We were seated pretty quickly in a small booth. Hockey was on TV so that's a good sign. I was not super hungry so I ordered the smoked meat on a bagel, Andrew got the sandwich. The food came out fast but not overly fast. My bagel sandwich was tasty. I liked the thin cut of meat. The fries were as soft as mashed potatoes. They were warm but not close to crispy. Andrew liked his sandwich as well. The bathroom was quite the experience, it was at the bottom of a long, steep staircase in the basement. It worked, lighting was ok, but it was a climb out of there! Come here for a simple quick bite and stick to the sandwich. It's good!
