Away from the crowds, big box gyms is a gym hidden in the landscape of Oak Hill in plain sight and…read morefrequented by a devout group of fitness folks. When I could no longer tolerate the big box gyms, the crowds that flock to them and the bad behaviors that have cropped up over time, I finally made the move to this gym. Sure it's smaller, sure it doesn't have daycare, saunas, pools, giant changing rooms but I consider all those things a plus. People who show up here show up to work out not sit at the sauna and pool all day. The price point is higher than most gyms but not unreasonable. You get what you pay for -- mostly in peace and quiet and an overall more courteous gentler crowd. There is a good mix of equipment that can handle a mix of folks who just want fitness, folks who are into bodybuilding and powerlifters. For the most part all three groups exist in peace. Perhaps the general fitness folks may at times be a little intimidated by some of the louder harder workouts of the powerlifters. But this can be mitigated by changing the time you go. I get overstimulated by such noises so I try to avoid those folks if I can. ( I can be a gentle flower lol) Gender balance. This gym has a very healthy gender balance. Luckily this crowd is not there to find suitors, they are there to work out so no fake eyelashes or clown makeup nor guys just dragging their wings along the ground like turkeys in heat. Please respect this dynamic and don't come here to hit on people. Like most gyms the peak time is 5-7 week days except it's mostly Monday to Wednesday that's somewhat busy during rush hour. But nothing like the big box gyms. It's busy but not impossible to get a workout in like other gyms. Folks are not aggressive with each other, they are kind when they approach you for working in etc. I take a long time at some machines people should be upset but there is no upset, only kindness. They are swapping out some of the equipment and its changes for the better -- mind you what's there is already plenty. This is a small gym floor compared to mix chain gyms. The gym in Lincoln village is slightly larger and the new one in round rock will be huge. The hours are great. Parking is plenty however not endless, sometimes you will have to hunt a little. The gym is clean, bathrooms is clean but could be better. I am just being honest. It's just fine. I have been spoiled by Lifetime and EOS. There is a regular crowd that's been there a long time and they sometimes do exert a little bit of ownership and territorial behavior but they are mostly harmless, they could use the challenge of new faces, and they are perfectly able to adapt and accept newcomers. So don't be intimidated. It's all teddy bears in there. The staff also is amazingly friendly and attentive and keep the place sharp and on top shape and help members. I highly recommend you get a week pass and check it out!

The air feels stagnant and hot - especially by the cardio machines! 2. Extended hours or 24/ hour access for members would be amazing for those of us who work night shifts! Outside of these small suggestions this gym truly is great, no other gym in Austin can compare to the cleanliness and quality of machines this space provides.

There are tons of really nice treadmills, some with a running track that is curved and more rugged like you are running outdoors on a trail. The bikes are great, very updated. I do think the weights machines are outdated and need to be replaced. The TRX area has some classes. They also have several rooms with Pilates reformers, barre classes, as well as yoga, and circuit training. There are fancy stretching machines and massage chairs! Bonus! The sauna and steam room are separate sexes located in the locker rooms for privacy. The showers have good quality hair products and body wash. They even have razors and q-tips as well as cotton wipes. Hair dryers are available too. The pool area is really like a resort it is so nice. Plenty of loungers to relax on and good shade spots. This gym has all the beautiful people haha. Everyone is in like Lulu-lemon and dress to impress. Fun but a little intimidating when you wear old gym closes. They also have pickleball courts and basketball. You can take a pickleball lesson and sign up to play with others when comfortable. Lastly there is a spa and hair salon as well as a food center with high quality ingredients. This place is really really nice. I have never seen a nicer club in my life!

The gym itself, although on the smaller side, has been great. There are 6 treadmills, 6 elliptical…read moremachines, and 3 barbell squat racks but as for the rest there is only one of each machine. I've had my membership a few years now, most of which I was going at night time 10pm to avoid a crowd. That was good but was interfering with my sleep so I started going in the morning usually 8am. Now despite the fact that there is only 8-12 people during the daytime you will still find 2-3 people using multiple machines at once like a circuit training, instead of doing all of your sets on that machines, wiping it and moving on. This is horrible etiquette for a smaller gym with only one type of machine or equipment and there are no rules posted to discourage this. I wish these people would join a larger gym if they want to do circuit type training. Not great when you're on a time crunch waiting for a machine while someone is across the room on a totally different machine but have their towel and water bottle next to the machine holding their place. Something else I personally don't mind because I'm there to burn calories, is that I usually have to put other people's weights away, re-rack plates or organize then jump box's and kettlebells to clear an area before I use it if it's a Friday Saturday or Sunday. My complaints are mostly with the behaviors of the patrons which I know is not the fault of anytime fitness, I will be switching for a larger gym with more equipment in October. I will see if cancellation has any issues as other reviews have mentioned. I did have a small mixup trying to cancel back in June when I found out my contract was on auto-renew every year if you don't actually cancel the auto-renew option it will start a new year contract every year instead of going month-to-month after the initial one year contract signed. So I had to actually pause the membership at the next gym I'm going to in order to finish this second years' contract I was unaware I was signed up for. I'm sure it's in the fine print. The gym is great if you catch it with few people or totally empty it feels like a personal gym which I loved. The good thing about anytime fitness is you can use any location nationwide when you have the membership, which I visited several in austin, FM 1826 ended up being my main location for majority of my membership.

It's not very big but it's big enough to meet my needs at least! I was really looking for more personal, nutrition and data driven results. It's great that your trainer is telling you that you look great and strong, but what do the numbers say? The InBody machine they had there, is here as well. Curious why my trainer at LT never regularly used it in my regime. We met with the owner Chris and he offered us a complimentary workout with one of the trainers to get a feel for the place. That wasn't necessary really. We somewhat knew what we looking for and Evolve seem to have all the stuff we really needed, without the pretentiousness. My treadmill was there, they have heavy stuff to pick up and throw around. Machines for all kinds of stuff. A massive half tire thing, that actually looks dangerous to me. :) Chris's interview with us was personal and direct. I liked that as well. He took his time, listened and asked for our availability and when to start the first complimentary session and we discussed the packages available. This was a wow moment. A 6 month commitment meant that our PT hour was $79.99, no monthly gym fee and I could come and go as I please. Jaw drop. We were paying $150 an hour, plus a monthly gym fee 3x's a week. Although to be fair, I had recently moved to a Medicare Membership at LT so no gym fee, but restricted hours. Ok, interest was peaked. I went to my first session with Celeste. We spent the entire hour working on my balance and stretching. I was like, ok no weights? I regretted that thought when I got home a few hours later when my muscles had some aching, a signal that something good was happening that worked. Her style was to get me in touch with my core and she was surprised, as was I, why my past trainer experience didn't touch on that. Using my own stomach kettle bell or medicine ball as "The Weight" makes sense. I have used very little physical weight these past two months. I am doing a lot of Yoga it seems when I train with her. Mandatory stretching before working out, in addition to me getting on the treadmill before we start. The Yoga is teaching me to be in touch with my body and muscles, I like that as well. Celeste may be younger, but she has knowledge and experience which is what matters to me. She is now taking a keen interest in our diet. We are looking at recipes and dietary concerns. She cautioned me on my style, which was 1670 cals a day and reminded me that slow and easy wins this race. Again, good logic. Most important she has a laugh with me while I clumsy work my way through the gym like a drunken Shrek at a rave. Nice reassuring smile and very quiet speaking so I have to pay attention more. Communication. The owner is there often and when he sees me, he always checks in with me and asks how I am doing. I get reminders on the gyms personal app and text's from Celeste checking in on me. A very important app is the InBody app. I can already see the improvement in my body, which is a total motivator. Such a simple thing and a great, honest feedback tool. It feels good to support a local business and not a corporate conglomerate as well. Let's keep on keeping on!

Don't get it twisted - each barre3 class i've ever taken has been extremely intense & difficult, but the physical, mental, & emotional health improvements & peaks are well worth it! Barre3's website describes it best, "Our innovative approach combines low-impact isometric moves, large-range cardio bursts, and mind-centering breathwork." - and for each of those details, i'm in love! the cherry on top of the barre3 sundae is that their co-founder/CEO, Sadie Lincoln, is an absolute role model, leader queen! I've seen some great coaching and facilities, and I've experienced some less than ideal situations. Time and again, I appreciate the excellent coaching, programming, and most importantly, the community at the Combine. Over the years, I have improved my strength, mobility, body composition, and learned what I'm truly capable of as an athlete. CrossFit is not easy, nor should it be. The coaches offer great support and encouragement, pushing athletes through discomfort that ultimately turns into remarkable results. Even when I've had to deal with injuries (before you even think it, no, I didn't get injured because of CrossFit), the coaches can modify and scale the workouts to ensure I still get a good session. At times, that meant doing something almost entirely different from the rest of the class. That is one of the defining reasons this coaching staff is fantastic. If you're interested in checking out CrossFit or feel it is time to try a different box, the Combine just might be what you've been looking for. The members are some of the nicest and self-motivated people I've ever met and that only makes the experience that much better.
