I adore this place. Having been a long time customer their plants have always been great quality for good prices. On one occasion I have bought over $200 worth of plants and found later upon returning home that I was charged the same item twice. I message them on fb and they immediately refunded me. Their customer service is great. If you are in town you cannot miss the opportunity to see their growhouses and perhaps walk out with new babies of your own. After killing helpless gifts of orchids, I visited this store about 8-9 months ago, and they taught me the basics... I just went back to get more info getting it to flower again (I brought it with me), and bought two more which are just starting to bloom now (hoping to have an orchid blooming all year collection). I love my collection and they have great genes! My first orchid bloomed for 5 months (no fertilizer and barely any water). The staff is super, you just have to ask! By the way they have beautiful flowers in there, it's great for an afternoon, it's free to walk around. You have been warned! You will walk home with one of these beauties! The prices are better than stores, and they are bigger. They also will re-pot and despike or give advice, etc, for you! read more

I absolutely love this nursery for its wide and beautiful selection of perennial and annual flower. Although their main business is orchids, they also carry a great selection of flowers for planting, all at reasonable prices. The man responsible for this, I've been told, is Brian - possibly the owner - but definitely a master of flowers! He creates the most unique colors and hybrids of annuals that I have ever seen. For example, I bought the most beautiful yellow and coral colored begonia hybrids for only $4.99 for a 4 inch pot. One of, if not THE, best places for orchids in the country. I visit here once a year around Christmas when I'm in town visiting family. They have the widest selection of species I've ever see available for sale outside of major orchid shows. They're all healthy specimens and reasonably priced. I have never seen anything like it. If God had a garden of Orchid Eden this would be it. The greenhouse goes on forever of absolutely gorgeous orchids of all colors and varieties. Despite how vast it is, it is all extremely organized and pleasurable to the eye. But this place has more than just orchids. I bought the most beautiful air plants and succulents here. This place is very unique and the flowers are beautiful. The employees are friendly and helpful. We attended the open house this weekend and learned a lot about orchids. I will be much less likely to kill them now. You can bring your orchid in for repotting which I will do since they can provide good advice and not charge you very much. On a dark and dreary January day I happened to find an oasis of happiness with my first visit to Orchids By Hausermann! I've seen their sign many times off of Addison Road, and being an orchid lover, was always intrigued. I guess I was a) intimidated (kind of like being a newbie to wine, orchid-lovers can be very passionate), b) not sure if the place was open to the public and c) well, there is just no excuse... I could slap myself silly for not visiting before. The greenhouse is deceiving; it looks so small from the front entrance but once inside; well, it's kind of like the place that keeps on giving! Room after room after room of orchids in all stages of growth (don't miss going ALL the way to the back to see some big and beautiful orchids! One of the things I loved about my visit was that they just let me browse. They greeted me when I walked in but allowed me to wander all the way without questions or pestering. I was kind of just soaking up the tropical vibe and beauty and it was nice to be allowed that joy. When I did pick two orchids out and went to purchase the staff asked if I need any instruction and packaged them up nice and tidy from the crappy weather that was awaiting me outside. WOW! Drove by one day and my ol' lady wanted to stop in to see the orchids. All I can say is HOLY SH*T! I don't even really like flowers but this place is insane. Over 4 million orchid plants in tons of varieties. I was blown away. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The buildings seemed a little run down, but the place is a moisture trap, so there's really not much they can do, short of replacing the greenhouses on a constant basis. Anyway, really enjoyed the stop, and will certainly end up with some of these beautiful plants soon. read more

Absolutely love my orchids from hauserman. Hauserman staff are friendly and extremely helpful. I find the price point for the orchids reasonable. The variety of orchids can be somewhat overwhelming but very helpful in expanding your collection if it becomes a hobby as it has for me. I've expanded my collection from the standard orchids you'll find at the grocery store or home depot. You'll never be disappointed if you ever decide to order a standard gift basket or look to add to your home plants. Got another great order from Hausermann! They are so amazing. After I placed the original order, I realized they had something else I wanted that I had forgotten. I emailed Andy, told him I missed something, and asked if he could add that to my order if it was not already packed up and sealed. Of course he did it. He probably would have done it even if my box already was packed at sealed, because that's the kind of business these guys run. One of the plants was in spike, despite not even being listed as being in spike. I always check Hausermann first when I'm looking for a particular orchid, and if they had everything I wanted, I probably wouldn't ever order anywhere else again. Their staff is great (thanks again, Andy), and their plants are great, and I think it would be a sad, sad world if we didn't have Orchids by Hausermann to brighten our day. read more

This place is absolutely breathtaking. We visited for the first time right before Christmas, looking for some orchids to give as presents. When we walked in, I felt like I had been transported to a tropical country in the Southern hemisphere. Acres and acres of orchids in the greenhouse provide plenty of beauty to gaze upon. The varieties are amazing and the prices are great, compared to what you would pay in a florist. The staff was friendly and helpful, and told us how to best care for the plants. I left with a lot more orchids than I had planned on buying and kept 2 for myself. 2 1/2 months later and they still have blooms! I sent an orchid, in bud, to a cousin this May. It arrived as promised, in great conition, and as promised. Having not used Hausermann's bedfore, I was quite anxious as to the quality of the orchid, as well as whether it would be in bud, or if all the buds would be in the bottom of the box. None of my concerns were warranted. The orchid was so packed perfectly and shipped promptly that my cousin reported it was as though she had walked out of the store herself. I went to the greenhouse once, probably about 2006. So amazing, so many choices! There are probably still claw marks by the exit door from my daughter trying to drag me out of the place before I spent any more money on those fabulous orchids. I recently ordered 4 gorgeous orchids from them and noticed two of the plants had very fine white web-like strands on them. I also saw a teeny tiny white dot on one and as I was looking at it, the dot started to move. I suspect the plants had mites of some kind, so I called Hausermann's and asked how to get rid of these pests in order to prevent a mass infestation. I got very little help. I was told the only thing I could do was spray them with water. I don't want to return the orchids, I just want to know how to get rid of the pests. read more

So just for the hell of it I decided to stop and check this place out since the sign said they had a store open to the public and I wanted to learn more about this mysterious Orchid plant. It was a snowy wet sloppy day once inside I was in a tropical wonderland of acres and acres of every size, color, and variety of Orchid imaginable! They grow these things like ships in a bottle in the nursery. This place is totally cool and I could not stop talkin about it. The open house sales events are crazy so stop in when you can appreciate the quiet beauty and peaceful tranquility of a tropical orchid nursery. Drove hours to see this place. I give it one good star for having lots of nice plants. However though the greenhouses were huge, nothing but the plants up front were marked. To find out any prices you had to walk a long way with your plant to ask someone to look it up on the computer. No pictures of blooms or prices anywhere. Almost impossible to really look around and choose plants, everything so closely crowded you could not really tell where one variety left off and the next began. And, the very WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE ever. The man we asked to help us had a smart alec answer for every question we asked and a terrible attitude toward helping us find out any prices. To stand along side a computer while he hemmed and hawed and looked prices up was ridiculous! He seemed to think we should just grab a bunch of plants and hand over the credit card and consider ourselves priveledged to do so. I did not spend one dime even though I came with the intention to buy many things.... Never again will I drive chicago traffic to be treated like this. read more

If you can't find an orchid here you have a problem This place is HUGE. There greenhouses all over the place to walk around and find orchids,African Violets, and pots and supplies. If you ask they will gladly help. They are friendly despite other reviews. It was my first visit, They helped us pack our flowers carefully. If you love orchids, you need to stop here! This place is the mecca for all things orchid. I'm not sure how long this place has been here but I know it is long enough where I am kicking myself for not coming sooner. I recently just started purchasing orchids and let me tell you, they are one feisty flower. I have a couple (Phalaenopsis) from a hardware store and a discount store. I've had problems with getting those to re-bloom after the original blooms have fallen off and the stalks dried up. I brought one of my orchids to their open house last year because they were hosting seminars on growing and re-potting tips. They helped re-pot it and offered suggestions. One year later I am still without blooms but that is OK, I hear you can wait a very long time for your orchid to re-bloom if at all! I am a sucker for the way orchids look though, so naturally I bought a few more from here. I bought one that is fragrant and I actually got 2 bloom cycles out of it. The stalks/stems never dried up so I am hoping I can get another bloom soon. Their yearly open house is coming up so if you have time, stop in. You can spend a good amount of time just walking through the green house, it is HUGE...it keeps going and going. I love the section where they are harvesting orchids and they are all growing in glass bottles (think ship in a bottle). It is very cool! Also, in the summer they have a selection of perennials and annuals for your garden. read more

I have ordered 4X from this company, and I don't remember anything negative to say. However, there are positive things I want to express. They always choose A+ plants to send...no sunburned, butchered leaves. Always healthy & pest free...no scales/mealbugs. If in bud or without, they package the plant perfectly so there is no damage at all...even flowering stalks. Plants always arrive on schedule by Fed Ex. I've only purchased phalaenopsis from them, but I know that they carry a variety of orchids that any fancier would want. The prices may appear high to the novice, but I can tell you that it's a fair price. The shipping's not out of hand, but it's not cheap. For this reason, I only buy from Hauserman if I can't find what I'm looking for locally. Highly recommend this company. read more

This place is a legitimate greenhouse and completely amazing. You can spend a few hours walking through all the different rooms. They carry many species of orchids that you can't find elsewhere. Most flower shops and nurseries only sell phalaenopsis (the common "moth" orchid) whereas this place carries phals and a plethora of other varieties. Great place for anyone who likes beautiful flowers! They have many wonderful varieties at reasonable prices. Going through the orchid greenhouses is almost overwhelming because it's hard to choose among the vast array of plants! I am an intermediate level orchid grower and I actually drove here from Milwaukee to get a few particular orchids from here. I was delighted to find that their storefront has some orchids they didn't list on their website and I ended up picking up even more than I had planned on! I have been visiting this place for the last seven years. You will not find a more beautiful place to perk up your spirits. I have brought many friends and family to explore the beauty of the orchids during the cold months of winter. Be prepared to spend a good amount of money. You will not be able to leave without purchasing a few orchids. I have never been able to get out of there without spending at least one hundred dollars. Now for the reason of my two star review; Customer service, of which they have none. When you begin to frequent a place of business, it is common for the employees to acknowledge you with a smile or nod, maybe some small talk. Not this place. Every worker in this place has a scowl. They are extremely unfriendly. Being family owned, judging from their attitudes, they have been forced kicking and screaming into the business. If this is the case, sell the business to someone who would appreciate the gift they have been given. This location is huge, we are talking greenhouse after greenhouse of orchids. How about bringing in a little animal life; a beautiful Koi pond, a room full of exotic, tropical birds, or even a cat or two patrolling the area. Seeing as how they treat their customers, they are not going to want to be bothered with an animal. read more

Had some questions when i went here. This was last summer as I totally forgot to post this post. lol SO....I asked an official looking man. He gave me some pretty ignorant smartass answers (maybe i asked stupid questions because i know nothing about flowers) so i looked at his shirt and didn't see any logo so I said that I was sorry I thought he worked here. He said he actually owned it. Oh my gosh. This was the owner acting like a jerk. He turned to an employee and asked the employee the question I asked him basically trying to be a smart-ass. Lo and behold the employee answered the question knowledgeably and professionally. I simply had to give the owner a smirk and I walked away. Let's hope this very nice employee still has his job. But going against this jerk of an owner, who's words backfired on him... I could very easily see this nice man being fired. I hope not. I could use some words that really truly described my interaction with him but I wont. I'll stick with jerk. I shop at places that have integrity. This place does not. read more
