The restaurant is in a rather inauspicious strip mall. When we walked in, there was only 1 couple eating dinner. We sat ourselves and were eventually greeted by a very pleasant server. She brought us waters and answered our questions and request for suggestions. The massaman curry was delicious and the presentation was wonderful. The meal had a great flavor and the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. For 3 adults to have dinner for less than $60 is hard to do at fast food, let alone at a sit-down restaurant. I've traveled near and far, and Orchids Cafe is undoubtedly one of my favorite restaurants in the entire world. I usually go with a group so that we can partake in the BYOB aspect while we await our meal, as it takes time for Chef PS to work his magic in the kitchen. Each of the curry dishes have all the right flavors, and they pair perfectly with a tasty protein of your liking. Red Curry Duck and Masamun Beef are my personal faves, but I'm pretty open minded so I often try whatever is on special - it has never been a miss! Since the Pad Thai at Orchids can't be beat, I typically order a plate or 2 of it for the table to share. A great accompaniment is the Thai tea (no other Thai tea compares). Also, try to save room for one of the yummy desserts! In the end, I always ensure to make time for a stop at Orchids whenever I'm in the area to enjoy a lovely Thai meal. Kudos to Chef PS! read more

There are some restaurants and businesses that mystically pull you back over and over again. Orchids is one of those places. The food? The pleasant setting? The before 6pm specials? As I have considered the allure of this Thai restaurant that also claims to specialize in "Continental Cuisine" all of these come to mind. Orchids is located in a plaza whose exterior reminds one of the fact that it is an old building that was never retrofitted for the 1990's much less the 21st century. However Orchids sits in the middle like a blooming flower rising from the squalor. As you enter this small dining room the quiet resonance of Thai music soothes your angst while the presence of beautiful orchids removes any thoughts of the larger plaza or the world outside. A large white board displays the daily special and your menu offers many classic Thai options plus a few items that one can associate with Franco-American (No, not the canned ravioli but dinner choices that hint at the classic but were designed with American palates in mind. So no worries about overly French sauces.) Cuisine. My first recommendation GO THAI! The Tarragon Chicken I chose on our last visit was well ... Not very good. Neither was the Cream of Carrot soup which my taste buds anxiously searched for the taste of carrot rather than thickener. However, my dining partners made the Thai choice and were very happy. That has been our previous experience the Thai was simply and deliciously prepared. But ... and here is why I struggle to understand why we return. The service is so so slow and as evident on our last visit but affirmed from past visits the servers cannot give any insight into the food that is being served. If you have any other plans for your evening forget them because you will never make it there on time. Just remember keep breathing in the scent of those beautiful orchids, the soothing music of Siam, and the flavors of the meal ... No need to rush outside to that old plaza and the highways of the world. Don't worry you won't be rushed. A final note ... If it is very cold outside it will be cold inside so be prepared. I am guessing those orchids have some insulation because their flowers remain beautiful. Giving 3 stars because even with slow service that can't give insight about the menu and cold winds blowing in from winter streets the food (Thai) is good, the pre-6pm special is a good deal, and the music with those orchids chases the ugly world away for awhile (A long while ...). read more

Decided to try this place out. Not far from hamilton mall and stockton college. For apps ordered lrb chicken and somtum salad. Both were fresh and light, but needed a little extra thai herbs. Entrees were chicken green curry, nice spice and taste, and the panang curry w half rack lamb. The lamb was delicious. Tender and cooked medium rare as i asked. Will definitely be back for this dish. For dessert we tried the coconut and coffee ice cream. It was homemade and perfect after this spicy meal. I could of ate 12 scoops of this. Overall food was 3.5/5. Place is small and you can hear everyones conversation. Drafty door was chilly. Cant remember our server name, but she was a young blonde woman. Pretty good option for Thai food. I'd probably even go as far to say it is better than Rama Thai in EHT though the location is not as convenient. They have a pretty decent lunch special for masaman curry (one of my favs) that comes with soup and dessert. Of course we ordered thai iced tea, Tom yum soup, masaman curry, and the mango sticky rice. The lunch special satisfies your craving of delicious Thai food.. And note that when you get spicy here, it's SPICY! The owner is from Thailand so this is as authentic as it can get. She is a super sweet lady! I definitely want to go back to try their noodle dishes (pad Thai). read more

Very small little place located in Galloway that many people dont know about. I actually found it through yelp and thought Id give it a try since there are not that many authentic thai places around here. Everyone knows about Rama Thai. This place is very home and cozy. I have always ordered out and picked up and they are very fast and timely. I have ordered the Pad thai and the Basil Chicken. The owner of this restaurant is an retired Thai gentleman who runs this place for fun. I consider him a friend. I worked at Orchids in high school almost 10 years ago, and am always greeted as if I left yesterday. Everything at Orchids is homemade. The Tom Yum and Tom Kha soups do not come from a paste. They come from a broth where lemongrass is steeped for a week. The pad thai sauce, also, takes about a week week to make. The tamarind must be fermented. That is why you can't get a pad thai that tastes that good anywhere else. It's a pain to make. Orchids only does it because the owner - PS - likes to cook. This translates into herbs from a personal greenhouse in the summer and locally sourced substations because, frankly, you can get fresh/local cabbage, but not fresh bean sprouts most of the year. Orchids also serves continental cuisine. PS trained with a continental chef when he came to this country. That's why it's on the menu. You can get a really good very reasonable crab cake here. Personally, the thai food is why I always come back. The service is SLOW. This is a family operation, and the chef was retired when I met him and worked with him 10 years ago. The wait is worth it, and especially worth it if you have good company. If you're a regular, the trick is to call in a order ahead of time. I've worked up an apetite. What I wouldn't give for a pad thai, tom kha, sticky rice/ mango, and accompanied with a my own blend of thai tea and thai coffee with splash of condensed milk and a mint leaf (the drink use to drive them crazy but I swear by it). Great food, but with OK slow service. The food is good, and the prices are decent, with a quiet atmosphere. They have a great $9.99 3 course meal: salad/soup, entree, and dessert. There are about 8 choices from the entree list, which differs from day to day, so there is always something new to pick from, all things from the menu! The dessert selection is always the same: sweet lace rice, or vanilla ice cream with kahlua creme, or chocolate ice cream. The sweet rice is delicious, something I always get! And some entrees I suggest that I have repeatedly order are the Pad Thai (comes with chicken/shrimp/no meat), the Masamun Chicken, and Chicken Nigril. Only thing I didn't like was that the $9.99 deal is only from 5pm - 6pm. So sometimes it is very hard to catch. Other than that, I recommend!! read more

One of the only worthwhile restaurants in the Galloway Township area, Orchids serves pretty good Thai food for a place in a dumpy little shopping center. I especially like any of their curry dishes. I've certainly had better, but when you're in Galloway and want something besides pizza and Chinese, this is a great place to try. read more

Delicious Thai food with some Americana options that are equally as yummi!!! I go everychance I can. Curry, Fish, Shellfish, Tom Yum are all wonderful!!!! Food is made to order so always fresh. Wait staff are sweet as can be. Small cafe atmosphere. BYOB. Only slight downfall is from sitdown to dessert can take up to 3 hours, so dont be in a rush or bring small children. But, food makes you overlook the wait and is a great opportunity to catch up with friends and family. Great early bird special. $9.99-Satay Salad or home made Soup, Entree ( 4-5 pre-chosen options), and dessert sweet laced sticky rice or scoup of homemade ice cream. Excellent Thai cuisine. I have heard complaints about the service being slow, be we came on a Monday night, so I guess it wasn't too bad. Cucumber yogurt soup outrageously good. Shrimp, mussels veg stir fry was excellent, my wife got the pineapple red curry duck, mild plus spicing, she loved it although there was a lot of fat on the duck. I thought it wasn't as good as mine, too bland. If in the area, one of the only places to go to get great food! Desserts, coffee awesome, choc rum cake and sweet rice and coconut ice cream were standouts. read more

The food is amazing. BEST Thai I have EVER had. They have very short hours now only serving dinner, but if you get there before 6 (they are very strict about this rule!) the pre fixe dinner is a great value! at first thought, i would give orchids five stars. it's my hometown thai restaurant and i basically crave this place at least once a week. but on second thought, i think it'd be more fair to give it four stars b/c there is a little more room for orchids to get better. The Cons: - Hours are limited. Used to be open for lunch, closed for 2 hours, and reopened for dinner. But after a couple of years, and lack of advertisement, they are now open from 4-9. And closed on Sundays. - Um, the location and the decor is less than par. Orchids is located in this shady looking strip. At night after hours, it looks like a perfect place to shoot a really bad teen horror flick. Saying all that, you will be fine while Orchids is open, it's safe. The decor is kind of like someone may have been thinking, oh let's make this place look kitsch and then decided just to put some thai art and decor instead. Orchid plants all around the place, some thai art, some thai magazine pix of orchids. The place has a romantic "ambiance" which really means no lighting other than the candles at each table. I think it's also because they have plastic tablecloths and the walls suggest that this place used to be a hair salon back in the day. - Service is on the slower side. Not terrible, but don't expect a quick meal. The Pros: - Food is delicious. Hands down. It's authentic Thai as well, not all that MSG crap that they have in other Thai restaurants around the area. And the chef (also the owner) makes everything fresh. - I just have to put the Tom Yum soup down as the best I have tried to date. I have eaten Tom Youn soup at Thai restaurants everywhere I go but nothing beats Orchid's Tom Yum. - If you love spicy food, you can challenge yourself here. - If you have a friend that isn't into Thai, but you refuse to have anything but, there is a continental dishes section here. Also really good. - Since Orchids is now open for only dinner. They have a $10 special from 4-6, appetizer, entree, and desert. Can't be that. - Take out is available. - You can purchase their ingredients from the restaurant if you want to make Thai food at home. - BYOB To sum it all up, if you are in the area, make sure you make it out to Orchids. Went here on my birthday and was definitely not let down. The service was great, our waitress was more than friendly, and our food came out in less than 15 minutes. I got the vegetarian green curry which was fantastic and my mom got the priew waan shrimp which was great as well. The prices are very good also. My only wish was that their flowers weren't all fake, but that's just me being picky. I will certainly be back soon. read more

The worse Thai food I have ever had. I ordered red curry which is pretty standard around the world and it was not good at all. I ate one bite and did not finish. The sauce looked almost as if it was made with curdled milk. It unfortunately did not taste like any of red curry dishes I have ever had in my life. Do not order this dish!! read more

I love Orchids soooooo much. When I was in high school I used go there everyday to eat and then found out they were hiring so I made it my after school job. I thought I would get sick of the food after working there but instead I fell in love with it even more. The people who own it are gems and its extremely clean. I've been a waitress everywhere and its the cleanest kitchen I've ever seen. The food is truly fresh and they have the best paad thai and tom yum I've ever tasted. Their coconut ice cream and sweet rice is killer. I live in New York now and seldom get a chance to go there, but I gotta say Orchids beats 98% of the thai restaurants in the city.
