Clayton with Metro Chimney has worked with our extended family for well over a decade. He started maintaining my grandfather's fireplace first so when we bought our current home there was no doubt on whom we would call. The house came with a fireplace that had been heavily used but not maintained. In that current state it was unusable. The smell of creosote was intense. Clayton came out before the purchase of the home as part of our home inspection pre-purchase. He gave us a clear view on what we were looking at cost wise/work wise beforehand. It was very reasonable. He answered every question we had. Because of his history with other family members and professionalism we felt confident in purchasing the home knowing it would be taken care of afterward. This was important as we would be relying on the fireplace as a main source of heat in the future as we are rural. We bought in the autumn all those years ago and he was able to fit us into his tight schedule. Clayton cleaned out the entire structure from top to bottom, vacuumed out the smoke shelf, repaired out firebox, added a new damper, and closed the hole the decommissioned wood stove had been piped into in the next room. This all needed to be done before we could use the fireplace. Clayton gave us full instructions, in detail, on what we would need to do as upkeep until he came out for our first of many yearly cleanings. The creosote smell diminished greatly after his work and he recommended a product to use to prevent it from ever getting so bad again. We rest easy knowing we have Clayton as our guy. He identified several things that we needed to do to our chimney to addresses issues we didn't know about, such as cracks in the masonry and a buildup of creosote in the flue. Although I'v had my chimney for my wood stove cleaned every year, Clayton found grade 3 creosote build up in it, he took pictures for us so we could see how bad it was. He helped us figure out what we could do about it - things that didn't enrich him in any way. He was knowledgeable, helpful, specific, honest and took the time to make sure we understood the situation.
