I wish I had before and after fit pics because what they were able to do is borderline miraculous! I came with a very cheap shirt I got from Ross but loved it so much I just knew I needed to find a way for it to fit me. Finally, I took it in, tried it on and explained the issue. They explained that it would be $65 to alter and confirmed that's what I wanted since the cost of the shirt was so low. I confirmed and the work was done so quickly and expertly- the results absolutely blew my mind! I next took two pair of pants which needed the waists taken in and they were so perfectly done. And fast! So fast that when I went to pick up I had to double check that I had remembered the conversation correctly the first time.. thought I was losing it! Update: I'm not going to go back and forth with you, but I will say this: your account of the events that took place is intentionally inflammatory and factually incorrect, including the comments you made about what my partner said and what was communicated to him. Attached is the receipt for the button I paid for, along with photos of a new missing button and the damaged fabric. Please note, I have no reason to lie or make false claims just for the sake of it. Sadly, it's clear what kind of business you're running. Rather than showing concern for a customer's experience in your store, your immediate reaction is to attack the customer instead. Your response only reinforces how you treat some customers, and it appears this is not the first time you've behaved this way toward someone. We do not wish to patronize an establishment that lies, fabricates events, and responds to valid concerns with hostility. Your manager and the other employee were hostile, dismissive, and displayed antagonistic behavior. Lastly, I asked for the manager's name and was denied. I also asked to speak with the owner and was again told no, it's odd that you now claim to have been present on June 27th. I will always speak up and stand by the truth. _________________________________________________________________________ Original Review: I had a deeply unsettling experience at this dry cleaner on June 27th that I feel compelled to share. I went back to this business to return a jacket I had already paid to have repaired because the button was never sewn on as promised. When I returned to address the issue, the manager questioned my honesty, insinuating that I was lying and even claimed that the pin used to hold the button wasn't theirs, despite it clearly being their pin. They took the jacket to fix it but returned it with now a new button missing, and there was now new damage to the fabric! Also, I noticed it was not even placed in a protective plastic cover. Not only was I treated with suspicion and hostility, but it was also clear there was no accountability for the mistake, and instead, I was met with dismissive and antagonistic behavior. What made the experience even more troubling was the dynamic in the store: the manager and his employee were openly rude and condescending to me, which was disheartening to experience. It's really sad because a lot of reviews on here state how much they like coming here, but that was not my experience. As a Black customer, It's hard to ignore how my presence was met with hostility and a complete lack of respect or basic courtesy. I've been a loyal customer of Hillhurst Cleaners for years, but after my recent experience, I can no longer recommend this business to anyone. I entrusted them with a $495 white shirt that I've only worn five times. After having it dry cleaned at Hillhurst as I always do, I received it back with black dots all over it and a hole that wasn't there before. (See Photos.) Naturally, I brought this issue to Hamlet, the owner. At first, he tried to claim the shirt was "worn out," which he said explained the hole. This was absurd--how could a shirt I've only worn five times be "worn out"? Plus, it didn't explain the black dots. After some discussion, Hamlet acknowledged the problem and promised to fix it. He said he'd remove the black dots, patch the hole so well that it would be unnoticeable, and return the shirt good as new. Weeks passed, and when I followed up, Hamlet informed me he couldn't remove the black dots. Instead, he offered me a $200 credit to his store. I explained that a $200 credit didn't come close to covering the value of the ruined shirt and asked for a replacement. That's when Hamlet refused, pointing to fine print on the back of their receipt that limits liability to 10 times the dry cleaning fee--in this case, a mere $50 for a $495 shirt. This experience has been incredibly disappointing. Hamlet's refusal to take full responsibility for his business's mistake shows a complete lack of care for his customers. If you value your clothing--whether for monetary or sentimental reasons--do yourself a favor and avoid Hillhurst Cleaners. read more

The staff were so quick and friendly to help. It was my first time there to dry clean my wedding dresses, my husbands suits and shirts, and a couple other items. It was a one week turnaround due to the dress taking longer but it came back as white as when I first got it! The bottom of my dress was so dirty because I had an outdoor reception surrounded by dirt and wood chips, and Hillhurst cleaners did an amazing job! They have literal magicians working in alterations. My son is a hockey goalie and has a big tournament and the team got him the wrong size jersey. I showed up on their doorstep at 8am with a reference jersey, some plain white jerseys they could use for fabric, and the two small jerseys and they turned it around lightning speed and it is BEAUTIFUL work. Price was absolutely reasonable and the people were so nice. I felt like they were in it with me- wanting my kid to have his jersey for his game! If I could give 100 stars I would. I just picked up a blazer that had a few food stains after a party. After picking it up, the stains were still there, intact like no one had touched it. I rarely, if ever, write reviews. And I don't like to publicly drag a company, but I just took my white pants out of my closet for an event and I'm shocked. I brought these into Hillhurst a while back to have them cleaned. No stains or anything were present, just run of the mill cleaning after wearing to a prior event. They are COVERED in some kind of brown stains. Mind you, they were still in the plastic cover from the cleaner in addition to being in a suit bag. So nothing could have gotten on them since picking them up. Now, should I have checked them out when I picked them up? Probably. But I've been coming to hillhurst for cleaning for over 4 or 5 years now in addition to having them tailor several pieces for me. I was always satisfied. This is simply unacceptable and I'm heartbroken to have lost this pair of (custom made) pants in addition to needing to find a new cleaner now. read more

I dropped off a brand new pair of pants from Madewell to hem shorter keeping original hem (an extra cost). What I got was a shoddy stitch job (not original hem) with the old stitch lines showing. Also brought in a new dress that I had just bought and worn once. Nothing was wrong with it except a couple of small stains. Not only did they not get those stains out (I doubt they even dry cleaned it) but damaged the hem of the dress. It was badly frayed. read more

When I moved back to Los Angeles 7 years ago (The Eastside, of course) the first thing that I had to find was an amazing dry cleaner. I went to about 5 or 6 spots in the area, but Hillhurst Cleaners won me over. Great prices, 100% reliable for over 7 years, and they also do walk-in tailoring. I've had shirts hemmed, jeans taken in, and they've always come out great. What really makes this store unique is the owner, Hamlet, is a genuinely nice guy who actually learns all of the names of his repeat customers, and takes great passion in his work and it shows. Such a great guy. Other perks, text notifications when your clothes are ready, and convenient parking on the side streets if the small lot is closed. If I had written this review several weeks ago, I would have joined the chorus of people raving about Hillhurst Cleaners. My initial experiences with this shop were great. Hamlet and his staff were friendly, and I liked that I would get text messages when my dry cleaning was ready. Overall, I was satisfied by their cleaning efforts. One time, I even brought back a shirt that still had some collar stains after they cleaned it, and they re-cleaned it at no charge without any pushback. However, my recent experience led to major disappointment. I had brought 4 shirts to be cleaned, and when I went to pick them up on a Saturday as scheduled, only 3 were ready. Hamlet explained that he needed more time to remove a stain, so I waited patiently to hear back when the 4th shirt's cleaning would be complete. After not hearing anything for 5 days, I reached out to Hamlet and learned that the shirt was ruined: the blue color was washed out, leaving a mostly white shirt with a brown stain. To his credit, Hamlet was apologetic and did offer money for the shirt. However, this experience has left me feeling quite mixed about this shop given the positive and negative experiences that I've had. read more

I had high hopes for this place but I picked my dress up today and am really disappointed. I had a bright silk dress which had a curry stain on it. The only advised me that it might be hard to remove which is fair enough but when I got it back today there's a clear water stain on one side- I could accept if it's sweat mark but it's not on the other side at all. The dress was also pressed strangely-it's bias cut and they ironed a seam where there is none. read more

Wow. Updating my review after picking up my items. I had a full project with a jumpsuit that needed to be reconstructed. Hamlet fully delivered. Beautifully done. After wearing it around for the day I may decide to take it in around the waist slightly more but overall I'm extremely happy with the quality at which this alteration was done. When I've taken in other items to different tailors I feel like I could always tell what had been done visually, and never felt like it was done for me or my body. On this jumpsuit i swear it looks like I bought it from the store like this. I also had a zipper replacement and cleaning on a pair of white pants. Again beautifully done.
