I've been going to Oren for the last 10 years. He's incredible! His staff is also amazing. I highly recommend the keramine treatment! They are being safe during this pandemic and all staff and customers are wearing masks.

Words cannot begin to describe my experience at Oren Sassoon' salon! Five stars is definitely not enough! From the moment I walked in, I was greeting with the friendliest faces and smiles. Not only was the look I wanted achieved, it was perfected!!! Oren and his team of stylists took the time to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. I'm absolutely obsessed!!! If anyone is looking for the best stylist out there, who will take the time to perfect their look, this is the place to go. I'm absolutely obsessed. I cannot repeat it enough!! Love love love

Came in on a whim while I was in the neighborhood and asked if they take walk ins and was immediately assigned a hairdresser. They worked on my hair for around 1 hour before Oren stepped in to give it some volume. I walked out slightly dissatisfied due to the length of my hair-- asked for a lob (long bob) and got a bob cut instead. Once I came home and my sisters took a look at my cut she pointed out that my front had an "n" shape. Took a look at the mirror and saw it instantly. Paid $65 for the cut $15 for the first hairdresser and $5 to Oren for the fix. The staff was overall friendly but this salons not the right fit for me.

This was my first time going to this salon and it was definitely different than I expected. I saw all these great photos and decided to take the chance at a new salon. I showed a reference picture to the lady and she got to work. She then washed and toned my hair and it definitely didn't look anything like the picture I had showed. It was already late in the day and I had somewhere to be. I let the owner know that I didn't like the result and he let me know to come in the next day so they can revise it because I was busy that same day. I came back and showed her another photo that she could possibly do with the color that was in my hair and she fixed my hair. It was definitely frustrating but they owned up to their mistakes and fixed it. I got a cut and blowout and it looked great after.

I always go to Velma. She is awesome at cutting hair. I usually ask for long layers and she does a great job every time. She also finishes with an awesome blow out. Makes my thin hair look volumized and full looking. It can get very chaotic at times bc it is a small space with only 4 hair dressers so appointment is definitely required. But the place is very bright modern and clean looking. They know what they are doing. I recommend!!

I'm writing this after my second time here. I loved my haircut the first time. It was exactly like the picture I showed Susan I think her name is. The second time was good too as Velma was more chatty and wanted to get to know me. However the cut wasn't like the first time. It was much shorter and I didn't get the long layers like I wanted. At the salon it didn't look bad but after I washed my hair I saw it look choppy. My hair is curly and frizzy so now I have to blow it out after every wash which is a hassle for me. But everyone at the salon is nice and know what they are doing. For my thin hair I think $100 for haircut and olaplex treatment is a little too much but I still go because I liked how my hair was the first time.

Amazing!! I had really wanted to dye my hair purple for a long time and so I went in for a consultation and made my appointment for about a week later. Now I've had my purple in for about a week and I have loved every second of it! Shouly was the absolute sweetest. She definitely put in the extra effort to ensure my hair was exactly what I wanted and that it was done carefully. The entire process of lightening my hair and then dyeing it took a while but she got me coffee while I waited and even ran out to my car to make sure the meter wasn't up. The rest of the staff was really great as well. After the dye was washed out, she gave me a trim and curled my hair. It was obvious it had been done professionally. Many people have come up to me to tell me how great my hair looks and it wouldn't look this way if I hadn't come to Oren Sassoon. I will definitely be back!

To be honest, I'm not sure why this salon has such highly rated reviews considering the haircut I got from Rose. I waited a week to see if I could forgive the salon for the haircut and service I received but I still can't forget about it. Several times throughout the cut, Rose walked away with no explanation to answer the phone and talk to other clients; I didn't appreciate the lack of focus and attention. I could have maybe forgiven the unprofessionalism if my haircut had come out right. I asked for a trim and layers and ended up with what looked like a modern day mullet. The shortest layer on top was cut so much shorter than the longest layer with minimal to no blending between layers. I don't even know how else to describe the fail of a cut I received so I will just let the pictures speak for itself. The worst part of it was I didn't know how bad it was until the next day when I washed out all the curls. Side note: I don't know what time period my stylist thought we were in - but huge Farrah Fawcett curls did not look good on me. Besides feeling embarrassed when I walked out, it made me feel like Rose didn't understand what works for different clients. So on to the DISCLAIMER. I contacted the salon owner, Oren, via email who was apologetic and offered to fix my cut free of charge. I appreciated his quick response and his offer. I happily called him back but after a few calls back and forth I felt he didn't understand (or care about?) the urgency of the situation because he was unwilling to be even the slightest bit flexible with his schedule. He kept telling me to come in the morning even after I explained I could not because I would be at work. Ultimately, I felt it wasn't important enough to him to fix it and I really didn't want to go to work with a mullet for 3 days so I cancelled the appointment and had to pay AGAIN to have it fixed elsewhere. Mind you, my regular stylist there took the last minute appointment AND stayed 20 min past closing to fix my hair. Shoutout to Marco at Cutting Edge Salon in Manhattan! I wouldn't have posted this review had Oren made a bigger effort to follow through with his offer. Welp, you live and you learn...so much for finding a stylist closer to home. **Edit to comment on the response ** I guess in the end, it will be my word against Oren's. I never asked for a morning appointment as I work from 9-5. I reached out via email the day after my cut on Sunday, 3/4/18 and asked to come in that day - Oren said no, his schedule was booked. I asked to come in Monday evening, Oren said no, he was leaving early. He then offered Thursday but I asked if he had anything earlier so we settled on Tuesday evening. As mentioned earlier, I didn't want to wait 3 days to have a bad haircut fixed. I apologize that I don't seem to know what "anytime that was good for you" meant... And yes, I ultimately cancelled the appointment (I didn't just not show up) because the whole ordeal left a bad taste in my mouth and I no longer felt like giving Oren Sassoon another chance.

First time trying this place, absolutely amazing! I requested an ash brown color hair and they definitely did a good job! I would say it is a little bit pricey for me, but with all the amount of work and effort they put in and how amazing the end result coming together, I'll say I definitely go back and have they work on my hair again! Love this place! Recommend my hair stylist, Armando Pineda!!!

Every time I move I have to Yelp to find a new salon, and considering I've moved 3x in the last year that happens a lot. Now living in Forest Hills, I wanted to find an excellent salon that isn't too NYC expensive and gives a great cut. The salon is very clean and the staff very welcoming. You can tell they get to know their clientele like family, which was the first thing that makes me want to go back. I like how the salon works - one of the assistants gives you a wash and may dry your hair, but Oren, the owner, always does your cut. It is definitely comforting to know that the head stylist will always be doing your hair! Oren was sweet and kind; we talked about my hair for a minute before he set to work. He listened to exactly what I wanted while at the same time adding in his own opinions to see what I would consider (reason #2 I'm going to come back, I feel that stylist input is key to having a good cut, and I hate it when stylists just do as you say even if they know it won't suit your hair or face shape). He took his time and worked like an artist, and the cut is amazing (the third, and final, reason I am coming back)! I am very happy with it - he brought life back into my hair! The price isn't outrageous - my cut was $71, which is OK for NYC standards. He also offered for me to come in every 2 weeks to get my bangs trimmed for free (he almost begged me not to cut them myself, so sweet!) and considering they are just down the street from my new apartment, I will definitely be doing so! I've found my new salon, and I highly recommend it! read more

When I moved to Forest Hills from the city I was anxious about finding a good salon near my apartment. I took a chance on Oren Sassoon because I thought the salon looked chic and it is a Kerastase salon. I really lucked out. I have been going for about a year and a half and Oren does a great job on my cut and color and he really listens to what you want (both in terms of style and budget) instead of doing his own thing. I have super thick, wavy hair that is not easy to manage. I get tons of compliments on my cut and color. The pricing isn't cheap, but in my opinion it is on par with the level of service. I have never been pressured into buying products or services. There is a service charge for paying with a credit card so try to bring cash if possible. read more

I had been here once before, some time back in April, and was very happy with the job that was done. While Oren was not at the salon, the lady who took care of me (Norma?) did a fabulous job and was done in about 40 minutes. I know that sounds like a long time, but I have really curly hair (3b/3c), which is also thick. I figured this would be OK since Oren has curly hair and his salon carries Kérastase which is a curly-haired line. Because I was happy with my first cut, I went back today to get another haircut at this salon. I had an appointment at about 1:30, and was seen at 1:45 which is OK.. I mean, I know some things take a long time. I went in for a haircut and blow dry, and really enjoyed my shampoo since it was relaxing. While I was getting my hair washed, I also got a masque put in my hair (Kérastase Oleo Relax), even though I did not ask for it. I already use this product at home, and haven't seen many results with it, but I figured they're the specialists, so why not? After the shampoo, followed my haircut, which was done by Oren himself. He had a lot of recommendations for my hair, which I really appreciated. He even took the time out to give me some samples for my hair. My hair cut was followed by a blow dry, which Oren started, then a young woman continued, then Oren took over, then finally the young woman (Julie?) finished. I was not very happy with the lack of continuity in the blow dry. The young woman was very nice and personable and she did a great job, but because two different people had been working in my hair, the blow dry was uneven and frizzy. As soon as I stepped out onto Austin Street, my hair looked as though I had been struck by lightning... and I paid $80 for that! I cannot state enough how nice Julie(?) was. She took the time to listen, to ask questions, to speak to me, and to blow dry all of my hair. Even though the end result wasn't as I expected, she was a gem of a stylist, and i would definitely recommend her even if it's just for the conversation. It says a lot about customer service when you're not happy with the result, but would recommend the person, huh?! The salon is not as experienced with curly hair as they should be for being a Kérastase salon. I have gotten my hair cut and blow dried in curly hair salons in half the time and with a better end result. IF, however, you have loose curls or straight hair, you should definitely come over! read more

This review is well overdue! The yelp reviews are not exaggerating about Oren Sassoon. I originally had an appointment for 6:00pm which turned into almost 6:30pm because they were so busy (it was worth the wait). I did a deep conditioning and a simple haircut. Oren is very attentive to his costumers and listen to your wishes which is a rare thing to find. Although I did not require a hard cut I left extremely happy with the result. My hair is also a lot healthier after the deep conditioning and Oren's recommendations on how to treat my hair better helps a lot to keep my hair from return to it's previous level of dryness. Absolutely recommend seeing Oren, he is great! read more

I tried Oren Sassoon based on the excellent Yelp reviews. Thanks Yelp - you definitely led me in the right direction!! I went here in April and have waited a while to write my review on purpose. I wanted to see how the hair cut was in a month or two before reviewing. Some haircuts look great for a week, some for only a month. While yes, my layers have of course grown our and I'm way over-due for a haircut - I don't have a single split end - 6 months later!!! I have to say that makes for one of the best hair cuts of my life. I had Oren specifically cut my hair. He was great and I will be back again (soon)! read more

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this place. I was nervous putting my trust in someone other than the girl at my original salon back home but I took a leap of faith and Oren did an amazing job. I felt taken care of completely. Shouly washed my hair promptly after arriving and I only had to wait a few minutes before Oren finished up with his previous client. When it was my turn, we spoke about my hair and he listened intently. Oren had suggested layers in my plain Jane straight hair and I went for it. I love this cut! He breathed new life into my hair! The only awkward thing about this place is there's hardly a reception area and no receptionist. Oren and Shelly do it all. So if they're both busy blow drying someone's hair, as someone walking in for the first time, you're not sure where to go until they greet you and point you to a chair in the back sitting area. I suppose regulars are used to this but initially, I was confused because I'm used to other salons where stylists are pretty focused on the client in the chair and not having to pause to take appointments. Overall, I had a pleasant experience with this salon. Prices are comparable to most salons and more importantly, I feel fabulous. It's amazing what a great cut can do! read more

Used Yelp as a means to find a new hair salon and figured "why not try this place, it's got a lot of positive reviews" and I can't say I'm disappointed. Oren is very courteous and treats his customers with respect. He's not pushy or overly talkative as some hair stylists can be. He apologized for me having to wait about an extra 20 mins. which was not a big deal to me because 20 mins. is not really all that long. Although it was my first time going to this salon, I could tell he knew what he was doing. He gave me the exact haircut I wanted after I showed him a picture. I've always had medium length hair and wanted a big change. I wanted a chin-length blunt hair cut which I have never done before and I was afraid it might end up being cut too short but Oren made it the perfect length, not too short and not too long either. This place is definitely my new go-to salon. read more

I would never return!! I moved into the neighborhood from Manhattan and was looking for a place to get high-lites. The owner convinced me not to get high-lites and get a single process instead,,,,,,I wasn't clear why. The color turned out to be a greenish/red,,,,,just awful. He didn't even do the undergrowth,so my hair was dark underneath. One big disaster,,,,,,I returned the next day for corrective color, and he said he would do it for a fee. Corrective color is usually no fee at other salons. The owner and the staff are a bit arrogant....find another place,there are so many salons to choose from in NYC. read more

I have been getting my hair cut by Oren for almost 10 years. I completely trust him. I had long hair and wanted to cut it pretty short. He knows me pretty well and knew exactly what I wanted with me barely explaining it. I found this place off of yelp and based on the reviews and pictures I decided to give it a try. I didn't want a normal cut and color, I wanted to try something different and wanted to put some purple in my hair. From the second I entered, I was made to feel welcome. Everyone was friendly and very accommodating. They took my coat and offered me a refreshment. My hairstylist Shouly was the BEST! She listened attentively to everything I wanted and even through in some great ideas. And she transformed my hair from drab to fab! I got my appointment at the same day at 12:00pm I wanted to change my hair color, I spend around 9 hours in the salon. The staff they were excellent they offer me food and drinks, very friendly and helpful. Rose did my hair color, she took a lot a time and dedication to do my hair, first bleach, color, hair cut and blower. She was great my hair looks beautiful and is exactly what I was expecting. The Owner Oren he is great, he was checking all the time on me. I definitely recommend this place, I searched online the best hair salon and this was my best option. I will definitely come back!!! I've been going here for about a year and have had a great experience every time. The place is clean and well organized, and all the staff is lovely and talented. If you want a great all-rounder stylist, I would highly recommend Shouly, she does a great color, cut and style. Can I give Oren Sassoon 10 stars? I wish I could because that's how Oren made me feel...like a perfect 10! Those fancy Fifth Ave salons have nothing on him! I know because I've been to many of them. Shouly and Oren are the best tag team stylists I have encountered in the New York City area. I recently visited Shouly for balayage/highlights and a hair cut and the results were truly amazing. I stumbled upon this salon since Estelle salon did not have time to give me a haircut. I called and they said they take walk-ins. Susan cut my hair. I asked for long layers. She did not go scissor happy like most stylists do and chop off so much hair. She did a wonderful job! I left very happy. I will definitely go back again. read more

I've been going to Oren since he opened his salon in Forest Hills. He is a true professional. I love the fact that he personally cuts, highlights & styles my hair. As well, we take the time to talk @ how to experiment with colors and different cuts.. I like changing my hair so it's a lot of fun. A very welcoming, super super clean & friendly place. I came to edit my review because I thought about it and I realized, SH*T happens. I lost 7-9 inches of my hair because of the chemical cut i got from the bleach staying in 2 hours, BUT the owner Oren contacted me and apologized. Cant undo what was done. read more

Honestly, I loved this place in the beginning. Then everytime after the color came out different. When I tried to have them fix it they made me feel like there was nothing they could. I eventually stopped going after giving it 3 or 4 tries.. read more

Susan is the best! I've been coming here for about a year for blow outs and I'm never disappointed. I had to go to a party in Long Island early one Sunday and Susan was so accommodating. I always receive so many compliments on my hair after I leave the salon. read more

I needed a change, so I came here wanting purple balayage hair. It's been over a decade since I've done anything crazy to my hair, and that last time my hair was a dry and brittle disaster for a long time afterwards, so I'm glad I did research on a salon before coming here. Shouly was a sweetheart and clearly knew what she was doing, and I left with exactly what I wanted. It's been a month since, and I've received nothing but compliments on my hair. I had an amazing experience with this salon, Oren did my hair himself and he was great. Not only did he make my hair look amazing but he was kind and Easy to talk to. Great customer service. In total my haircut, wash and blow dry was 70 dollars. Which is not bad especially since he really knows what he's doing. Highly recommend and will definitely be back. read more

You claim your team is 100% experienced, yet during my appointment, your staff admitted they had never done this type of work before. One even said they would like to practice on a mannequin, but was never able to so why was I being used for practice while paying for a professional service? That felt completely unfair. When I went to pay, I saw an online discount, but the staff denied it and said it was no longer valid, even though it was still being advertised. That felt dishonest. If the extensions were installed properly and tied tightly as you claim, why would I be missing so many strands when I removed them shortly after? They shouldn't have just fallen out if they were secure enough for daily wear. To make matters worse, I heard Jessica, the boss, instructing staff to work on trying to get their bad reviews removed. That speaks volumes about where their priorities really are. I hope future customers get the honest, professional service they're paying for.

Short hair and very widely stacked layers are now my frenemy to grow out for the next year. My stylist was very nice and extremely meticulous, but the cut is kind of workmanlike and not what I asked for. I would give 3 1/2 stars if I could. The woman at the front desk was lovely and gave me a good discount because she heard I was unhappy with the length.

This was my first time getting my hair done at "Oren Sassoon". To be honest I was really nervous because I wasn't sure how my hair was going to turn on. After walking in the salon seeing the professional look and friendly people with smiles. I was feeling a little confident about my getting my hair done there and excited about seeing the results! My stylist was Susan and she was brilliant! I love the way she explained the whole process. I felt like I was talking to a friend there was no awkward moments and we shared a lot of good stories which made the time flew by. I didn't realize I was there for a 4 hours instead I felt like only 10 minutes thanks to Susan. I can't thank you enough for an amazing professional and friendly service! Oren is a master colorist and it shows. If you want a basic root touch up it is $60. If that price is too high you can go to the Amy Salon, one block away located directly on Austin Street and get the same service for $40 w/Michael-- you basically get the same quality but not as fancy a salon. I switch betweeen the two depending on my finances. The only downside is w/Oren you must plan to spend extra time because he takes walk ins and double books colors and cuts w/separate clients so it takes much longer for the person waiting on color service. The best service in Oren salon is the $30 blow out-- no matter who does it you will get an amazing blow out and I always splurge for weddings and events because it is always amazing!!! read more

I have been coming to Oren Sassoon for several years now. He truly cares about making each customer happy. I can always count on him to give a really great haircut. In fact, I bring my 3 year old son here to get trimmed too. Oren used a wonderful straightening treatment called Cezanne to get my hair smooth. The results lasted a very long time. I'm planning on using it again this summer. The salon is always clean, bright, and the staff is very friendly. I used to live in Forest Hills and moved last year but I continue to go to Oren. After several years of debating whether or not to get extensions, I finally took the plunge and am so thankful I did. Shouly is simply amazing--so professional, caring, and talented. She put me at ease right away, answered all of my many questions, and did a phenomenal job. My hair looks thick and lustrous, but most important to me, totally natural. Oren's salon was recommended to me by a friend. I just sent my daughter to get a keratin treatment with Shouly. She got a haircut with Oren as well. Shouly did an amazing job. She really took great care of her. My daughter wanted to de-frizz her curly hair. Oren was also really sweet with my daughter and listened to how she wanted to cut her hair. Oren worked well on her curly hair. She actually waited so long for me to take her to him for all these treatments. I'm glad I finally did. What can I say- the salon is great. Oren, suzan, shouly, vilma and Rose are wonderful... my problem is with Teresa. She's horrible at applying color. She's messy. She got color on my face and didn't wipe it off. She has a mean face and i belive She did it on purpose. And on top of that she dresses like she's meeting men at the workplace. I frequent Oren Sassoon every 2 weeks due to my haircut being a pixie style, and after years of having a style I was comfortable with and wanting to have a pixie cut but it never looked very feminine.
