I'm not sure if the ownership or management has recently changed but I am severely disappointed in my order tonight . The food quality has much to be desired; it's definitely NOT LIKE BEFORE. The lo-mein noodles were slimy and mushy plus the meat in the Broccoli Beef dinner was tough & rubbery. Either the cooks are just reheating frozen foods or they have hired inexperienced kitchen help with very low grade food supplies. OMG! The fried chicken is FANTASTIC! I had been working up the street from this place for years and always wanted to try it out. I did for the 1st time yesterday. Initially for lunch, I got the Szechuan chicken and shrimp fried rice. It was pretty good and I was glad I had finally tried the place. As I was leaving though, I decided to order their chicken wings to go as nearly every other patron that was already eating when I arrived ordered the fried chicken wings and fried rice. HO-LY COW, their fried chicken is PHENOMENAL! Suuuper crispy skin, juicy and tender meat & nearly perfectly seasoned / salted all throughout (skin and meat)! Definitely will be going back with the wife! The employees are super friendly as well and service was great! read more

I started working Charlotte area about 25 years ago. I have eaten here many times and they have very good food. The people are very nice. The noodle soup is super good and their friend chicken is out of this world moist and crispy. I would give it six stars if I were able to. read more

I got 2 plates one of my plates had an aluminum foil safety seal from something in the kitchen in my rice the other plate was not up to standards as well , nothing has flavor everything is boiled ( shrimp, chicken) and probably even the steak , and if your expectation is fresh chicken and egg rolls it's all under a heater read more

From nj, hard to find good Chinese food in Nc. I've only had the veggie egg foo young which is good, but the fried rice isn't my favorite. It's good but not like omggg, sooo delicious good lol. And I like veggies in my rice-including onion and bean sprouts. Hubby had the sweet and sour chicken, he loved it. He is picky and not a fan of Chinese food especially here in Nc. My favorite here is the hot and sour soup. Luv luv luv it, just wish it had more veggies and maybe mushrooms and tofu. Flavor is outstanding tho. Just passing by and picked up two bowls of it. Growing up in NC, the Chinese-American community is small and tight-knit. You pretty much know all of the Chinese food joints around town, and hear about it when a new one crops up. Chinese people are fiercely protective and critical of their food, and they love to gossip about it for better or worse. That being said, my family and I are always so grateful to the first generation of Chinese restaurants that were established in the early days of Charlotte's diverse food history when my parents were just immigrants, and didn't have many choices with regards to Asian food. But keep in mind - restaurants like Orient Express were trying to cater to American tastes, which is fair, but not to be judged by the standards of authentic Chinese food. Orient Express was one of those neighborhood establishments from the beginning that aimed to serve your average blue-collar working community and has remained that way ever since. This is a special and unique feat that most restaurateurs do not possess. That being said, the food is fast, delicious, and easy for those that are on a constricted schedule. You'll see many construction workers and laborers dining here and enjoying their meals for a reason. I have since moved away to California where there's a plethora of incredible Chinese fast food restaurants, but whenever I visit my folks in Charlotte, we HAVE to have a meal at Orient Express. I even crave it on a regular basis. Here are some of my favorites: garlic chicken, general's chicken, fried chicken wings, hot and sour soup, and any kind of fried rice. They also seem to experiment with traditional dishes on their menu which my family has tried on occasion and highly recommend if you are feeling adventurous. It's been a gem that I hope more Charlotteans will discover and love as much as I do! read more

Not only the worst Chinese food I've ever had, but it's up there as one of the worst meals I've had in my life. I got an egg roll - it was all cabbage,, except for the 1 ice cold baby shrimp in the middle. The "teriyaki" was incredibly dry and burnt and had no flavorings of teriyaki at all.i I threw it away after the second picture.. I wish I stopped sooner. read more

I grew up eating from this place as this was close to home. The lady that runs the place looks exactly as she did when I was 8 years old. LoL! In years the food has changed and not for the better but one consistent item is the crab rangoon. Its always hot, crispy garlicky cream cheese goodness. I really have never been a fan of Chinese fast food, but I wanted to give it a second chance. This restaurant smelt scrumptious from the outside, plus I skipped breakfast that Saturday and I was starving, I needed something fast! They had egg-foo-yung on the menu, which is always tempting, but a hit or miss nonetheless. I am spoiled by the egg-foo-yung in China town, New York and nothing else stands the test. So, I went with a staple dish, Vegetable Lo Mein. The woman I ordered from smiled from ear to ear and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying her day. The food was served up with the quickness without a doubt, but the veggies tasted like they had been frozen for a while (the broccoli was kind of brown). Finally found some great Chinese food. I ordered the Peking Beef and it was delicious. Very fresh, cooked to perfection. It wasn't full of artificial thickeners like so many Chinese takeout spots. Waitress was very friendly and the food came out fast, even though their seats were nearly full. Wish the best for this place. read more

Get the spicy noodle soup and spicy chicken wings....a co-worker brought that and teriyaki tenders to work one day. I was in heaven!
