I wish these black owned places would do better bc I really hate to give 1 star but my experience was terrible. I waited over an hour for an oxtail plate and a jerk chicken plate. I also initially ordered a beef patty I wanted hot the cashier said she only has mild. After their hour passes by and my to go order comes out there is NO PATTY. I ask for it, they say that they ran out an only have chicken even tho when i ordered it the girl told me she was putting it in the oven. Guess she never did. Bc he offered me a chicken patty that I would need to wait longer for , I simply told him I don't want it I just want a refund. Didn't even have the energy to ask the girl what happened to the patty she told me she was putting in the oven bc it OBVIOUSLY didn't happen. I won't ever come back here. First impression was a lasting one for sure. Sad, do better! & even worse, just got home and realized they didn't even get my order right so it took them over a hour and didn't even give me my plantains for my side, really sad that I actually tipped them. I always speak highly about the quality in taste however; I was not able to do such when I ordered yesterday. I called in to do a mobile order for a combination plate of oxtails and jerk chicken. I was informed that they were out of a lot of items and the chef was out at the market to stock up. Being there was no option for oxtails, I ordered a jerk chicken entree. I didn't have the best story to tell this time around. The chicken was dried out and seems as if it could have not been fresh. The cabbage was a little on the salty side and the Mac n cheese (boxed). The only sides as an option was collards and potato salad. I ordered the Mac n cheese which is an up charge. I came on my lunch break abt 3:30. I guess earlier lunch crowd wiped them out because they were out of so much. But I was able to get me some oxtails and curry chicken. It took a good min for it to be cooked and I was really the only sit down customer but I believe they had a lot of take out orders to make. Anyways, once the food came out it was well worth the wait. Meat was so tender and flavorful, cabbage was beautiful and cooked perfectly. Rice was awesome and those yams definitely were not from a can. Overall good experience and I would certainly go back. I can't say if you should try it or not. Went for lunch and what I wanted they didn't have. They had counter seating and what seemed like another side that's maybe open when it gets busy? It's a limited menu it seems at lunch bc she told me "they haven't even started the grill yet." I wanted the jerk chicken. They only had curry chicken and brown stew chicken. It might be good but I wasn't interested. When I asked what time the jerk chicken might be ready her response was "I don't know. I mean they are just now seasoning it and haven't even put it on the grill. It won't be until much later (I was there at 2:20) if we even have it at all today." I was like ohhhh ok then and walked out. It's out of the way for me so I probably won't go back to see if the food is worth it. I suggest calling ahead to see if they have what you want. This is my FAVORITE Jamaican restaurant in Charlotte. I moved to Atlanta and make it a point to come here when I'm in town. It's my JAM! Authentic, flavorful and ridiculously delicious. Go here, NOW! Ambience: Last year they moved to larger location with booth seating, as well as counter seating. I LOVE the counter seating, you can watch the ched do his thing. The restaurant is clean, large and well lit. If you come in on Friday or Saturday you'll probably hear the owner jammin' along to the music. Great music btw. The good: THE FOOD!!!! Good Lawd it's good! I have never been disappointed with an order. Things to note: If you order anything seafood related or vegetarian, the cook time is about 30 minutes. The plates are plentiful. Tip: order to go, even for dining in. They stuff the containers. My go to is brown stew red snapper with rice and peas, cabbage and plantains. The snapper is a WHOLE FISH, head and all. My bf gets the curried veggies with rice and sweet potatoes. I have never had a bad meal here. Everything is flavorful, prepared well and plentiful. The bad: Sigh, the service. When they relocated they hired a lot of inexperienced employees. They need to take the time to properly train them. Ordering can be frustrating and time consuming. We decided to try Quidley's since they were open until 9:00 p.m. We ordered ahead and went to pick it up. When we got there we saw quite a few people waiting for their food. My husband waited mostly outside since it was difficult to practice social distancing with the number of people waiting inside the restaurant for their food. We almost canceled the order since we were waiting at least a half hour for our order. Finally, we received it. We had the stewed chicken with rice and peas and cabbage. It was very good. My only complaint was that there was too much sauce and some of the chicken was tough, like it was overcooked. But overall it was very tasty and I would definitely consider returning. Next time I'd request that the food not be smothered in sauce. Hopefully they'll have a better system in place by then so we won't have to wait so long to receive our food. read more

My Dasher called from Quidley's. There was a wait for my cabbage so they asked if I'd like something for the inconvenience. I said sure, coco bread. (Later I found out they also gave me collard greens too. Nice!) My food arrived, minus my ginger beer. I called Quidley's. Both ladies I spoke with were really sweet and apologetic. I still wanted my ginger beer though, so I said I would reorder it through Doordash and asked if they could comp a second one as a courtesy for not receiving my first one. So basically buy one, get one free. I didn't think it was an unreasonable request. They disagreed at first but we talked it out and they kindly accommodated me. I've eaten at a few Caribbean cuisine spots around Charlotte and I have to say this is the best I've eaten thus far. The restaurant is very clean and spacious and the service was good, but a little slow. The food was very flavorful and fresh. I was just a little saddened that they were out of Cocoa Bread... The food is cooked to order and is well worth the wait. The Brown Stew was so flavorful, I could've eaten/drank it by itself lol. The cabbage was also flavorful and still had a fresh crunch to it- it wasn't mushy at all. The plantains were also fresh as well. I will most certainly return here soon to eat and hope they have some cocoa bread next time :) read more

The jerk chicken was absolutely great! It was our first time visiting and in fact when we were served the service was very sweet and prompt. Allow me to start by clarifying that I was unaware of the closing time 8:00pm. We arrived just before 7:20pm there were a few people waiting on to go orders and a handful of people in the dining area. There was no host just people behind the counter doing their thing. After a few minutes I asked someone if we could sit or order in the front, we sat and took a menu with us. I opted for the oxtail and goat curry combo and she took the jerk chicken and fruit punch. After another 10 minutes our server came out and informed us that they were out of the oxtail goat and everything except for the jerk chicken. My date insisted we go elsewhere but I really wanted to try the food so we ended up splitting the large jerk chicken plate with cabbage, collards, a side of plantain and pumpkin rice. The Caribbean food is bar none the best in Charlotte that I've been able to try. Maybe it was the timing, maybe it was the weekend... This meal was as expected. The brown stew consisted of 4 hunks of overcooked meat (not fresh) brown sauce and a piece of potatoe.. no veggies in the stew at all. I have been wanting to try Quidley's for some time now and finally got my chance :). I was ordering to go, but I got a chance to get a feel of the place, as I waited. As soon as I walked in, I was pleasantly greeted and given a menu. The music was on and they were playing R&B..like Mary J. Blige, Ashanti...upbeat old school but not really "ol' skool" R&B. I could hear a few of the patrons singing to themselves, as was I (how could I resist, good stuff). Anyway, I ordered one large oxtail meal ($15) and one large oxtail & jerk chicken combo meal ($18). Yes, a bit pricey but not out of what normal plates cost in Charlotte for Caribbean/West Indian restaurants. The meals come with your choice of rice and one side. This was a let down. I'm used to ordering, an oxtail meal w/ rices and peas & cabbage...and the plantains are part of that order. Here I was only able to get the protein, rice & peas and 1 choice of side (not including plantains). To order a side of plantains would have been an additional $3.5, I passed. So for one meal I ordered it with plantains and the other with cabbage and basically my mom and I shared our sides, to get both (with the price of the plates, a few plantains wouldn't hurt). As I waited, the head cook/chef was just singing his heart out and I could tell he was serious about his craft, the food of course. I waited about 15 minutes and was on my way. The food was pretty good. Wish I had more oxtails w/the amount of rice I got but in regards to flavor, it's probably in the top 3 that I've had in Charlotte. I'm originally from NYC, where there is a Jamaican restaurant (or 2), literally on every block. So it's safe to say I have had my fair share. Will I be back? Yep. I went to Quidley's after hearing how good it was from a guy I met who was Jamaican-- I always figure that if a person from a specific area will eat at a restaurant that claims to serve food from that area, and then tell me it is authentic food, they know because they belong to that particular area of the world or what have you, then it must be worth it. Let me tell you-- it WAS SO WORTH IT. I had the oxtail, butter shrimp, peas and rice, plantains and yams with pineapple ginger drink. I also had red velvet cake for dessert. I wasn't sure about the plantains before I ordered them, and Barrington asked me how I liked them and he would make them that way. The service was impeccable! Moreover, Omar, the owner, sat and spoke with me and my friend as we dined. The ambience was nice-- bright colors, AMAZING playlist, fresh flowers and did I mention amazing food?? The flavors were everything. It was quite literally the best peas and rice I've ever had in my life, and I can't WAIT to go back and try everything else!! Please be forewarned, the wait was long, like over 40 minutes from the time I ordered to pick up, but the food was so worth it. The oxtails were tender and the authentic flavours of cloves, allspice, and thyme were evident. The pumpkin rice was DELICIOUS! Like out of this world good! The plantains were sweet and fried perfectly. Quidley's Delight gets five stars for exceptionally delicious food, great conversation (West Indian people talking about the pandemic with Beres Hammond playing while you wait for your take away order), and the hope of trying perfectly cooked Red Snapper in the near future! read more

I have a new favorite Jamaican restaurant, Quidleys is really good! But be prepared to wait! I usually call in my order but I am assuming due to COVID their phone orders have increased and it can be hard to get through on the phone. There is usually a line at the restaurant also. I would give this place 5 stars but they seem to struggle with the order demand and the employees can seem to have an attitude. If you can overlook that, the food is really good and worth the wait. The Jerk chicken is one of my favorite entrees, its a little sweeter and their portion is generous. The Oxtails are really good as well. I love their cabbage, its prepared a little different. It seems like its fried cabbage but its so good! The yams and rice and beans are my other go to sides. I have yet to try a beef patty but that is next. Terrible customer service. I placed my order at 6:00 from door dash & called the restaurant sat 7:30PM to see if my order was ready. I was told by Avette that my order was ready. Get to the restaurant at 8PM and was told that I was going to have to wait an additional 20 minutes for my food. There was no common courtesy call, and I get to the restaurant and the staff is dancing around and having a good time. This place lacks professionalism, and shouldn't be taking door dash pickup orders if they can't handle the system. There was also only 2 people in the restaurant at the time. I also asked well due to this lack of professionalism and customer service, how could they accommodate me? He said I could cancel my order. Terrible professionalism, and customer service. This place doesn't care about their customers at all. After asking to be accommodated at this point for waiting 2 hours for my food, the owner tried to give me a juice and told me to take it or leave it. The only reason I gave 4/5 rather than 5/5 is the oxtails could've been stewed a little longer so that the larger pieces were a tad more tender. Not that I refuse to pay but was surprised at the recent increase in prices. I support all Caribbean busineses as I know what it takes to make it in this country. Two days ago I came here for the first time and ordered jerk chicken, and was told they were completely out as it is a very popular item. I completely understood, and I instead ordered the curry chicken with plantains and rice with beans. It was very good! I was still craving the jerk chicken, though, especially after seeing how popular it is. Today, at around 12:30 PM, I called the restaurant to make sure they had jerk chicken before I went up there. A man answered the phone and told me it would be ready by 1:30 PM. I walked into Quidley's a little after 1:30, and I ordered the jerk chicken to go. The woman at the counter who I talked to said it would take about 15 minutes before it was ready, and I was fine with that. Almost 60 minutes later and seeing people who came after me get their food before me (one of which was jerk chicken), the woman I ordered from came over to me and said the chicken wasn't ready, the chef left, and that he wouldn't be back for another 20 minutes. I really contemplated leaving, but I had already waited close to an hour and didn't want it to be for nothing. Another probably 10 minutes goes by, and she comes back up to me and asks if I want to order anything else. I told her I really wanted the jerk chicken, and that I've already waited over an hour and might as well leave with what I went there for. She continued to say she had no idea when the chef would be back and the chicken was on the grill, but they did not know when it would be ready. After a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes, another woman comes over to me, asks if I ordered the jerk chicken, and tells me she will go ahead and get it for me. Now I'm not sure if it was ready the whole time or not, but I just don't understand why the chicken was all of a sudden ready when the chef still wasn't back, and why "it'll be ready in 15 minutes" turned into an hour and 15 minutes! People who came in after me were receiving their food way before me, and it looked to be that one of the regular customers was served jerk chicken after I was told it wasn't ready and way before I got mine. Were they trying to save the jerk chicken for their regular customers? It just doesn't make sense to me. I work in a restaurant, and I have given people who have waited way less than I did their meal for free. The woman only gave me $1 off of my food! I looked at the clock went I left and it was 2:49 PM. I walked in initially around 1:34 PM. I wasn't given an apology or anything. Luckily the chicken was good, and I would've given 5 stars, but the extremely slow service and weird explanation I was given for the chicken that "wasn't ready" really turned me off. I really wish they would've provided better customer service and at least apologized for my ridiculous wait and asked me how they could make it right. I guess $1 off sufficed for them. I'll begin by stating my reason for not giving them the full 5 star review. The floors were dangerously slippery. Ok now that we've covered the only negative from our experience I'd like to describe how amazingly delicious our food was. The customer service is outstanding and they greet you as soon as you set foot in the restaurant. The aromas will smack you in the face the moment you walk in and you'll notice the hard working chef juggling phone calls and tasting his food assuring it's just right! I ordered the small Curry Chicken and it was PERFECT! Not overpowering and tender and flavorful! The potatoes and carrots were so good that I wish I had ordered the large portion. The Ox Tail has nothing to be envious of as it was EXCELLENT! The presentation is beautiful and the quality of food is evident after your very first bite. The Chef will check on you to make sure you're enjoying the meal which is an indication of how focused they are with satisfying their customers.
