    Broccoli with chicken
    Chandra J.

So sad I've been sleeping on Orient since I moved to this area months ago. I would always see a line of people in front of the window and I just thought it was because they hadn't started in person dining yet. No, well, maybe some was due to that, but most was due to the amazing food. Immediately upon walking in I was told to order the general tso chicken. However, I went with the broccoli and chicken, which I was told was also good. I got a side of fried rice and was excited upon opening my food. The dish had tons of chunks of chicken, broccoli, and carrots--literally I haven't seen pieces of carrots so big in my life. Similar to other reviews the food is good, but could use some additional seasoning. I decided to add red pepper and garlic when I got home and this really popped it up and gave it so more flavor-if they could do this in their kitchen it would make it even better! The service is also great and quick as well! Be prepared for two to three meals as they give you tons of food for a pretty good price. And now that I know I have a good Chinese fusion spot near me I will be checking them out more often.

I've been doing the Asian food thing since agreeing to do the Daniel's fast with my church. Orient Garden has always been my favorite, and I even forgot to order white meat only, but it didn't matter because it was mostly white meat. The food is always on point and it's so much for the value. You pay a couple dollars extra but you get twice as much. There is no actual service because it's a storefront opportunity. You can't eat in the restaurant, but when you could, they were always attentive. I do miss being able to sit down at their spot, but I understand that they are so busy as a to-go spot that they can't handle in store service. The place is clean, the staff is friendly, but you only interact for a few minutes. I wanted Mongolian beef, too- but with the fast approaching, I couldn't do it all. 100% the best spot in Durham.

The absolute best sesame chicken I've ever had. The general tso could have been spicer for my liking though. The portions were HUGE and the sides of broccoli were generous as well. They only have to go which I don't mind

We've been searching South Durham for a good Chinese restaurant for years. This one is definitely the best we have come across. Currently, they are not open for indoor dining. They have a great setup for takeout so you don't even need to go inside! They also have paid attention to small sanitary details like having a dirty pen bin so you are only picking out a clean one. The portions were huge! We ordered two combination dinners and we probably could have shared one! The combination dinners come with your choice of soup, egg/spring roll and white/fried rice. The hot and sour soup was nice and spicy! The spring roll was also great. By the time I got through the soup and spring roll I was already getting full! I had Kung Pao Chicken as my main dish and made sure to ask for white meat. It was yummy and I had leftovers for days!

Very standard Chinese food at very standard prices. Worth going to just to stare at the dragon tiles. Not fast, expect to sit a while.

It was mostly rice mixed with sad iceberg lettuce ( mixed greens ) and the toppings were skimpy. For $18 this was disappointing. It was supposed to have three proteins. I added radish, crunchy onion and edamame. It was sad. In addition to the toppings I ordered there was a bunch of ginger and a marble-sized glob of wasabi hiding in the mix. Glad I avoided being surprised by that. I took the photo after I'd eaten so you can see how much rice was still in the bowl. The waiter was super sweet. He'd do better at another job. I'll stick to Zen Fish. There everything is fresh and vibrant and the choices are more exciting. Plus, their mixed greens are actually 'mixed greens'.

First of all, the AC was not working on the night we visited so things did not get off to a great start. It was warm in the dining area. The lighting was dark (maybe to not add to the heat). We enjoyed our Thai ice teas and seaweed salad appetizer but found our entrees (angel hair special and marine couple) just okay -- nothing special. The scallops in the marine couple were pretty tasteless. The owner came by and chatted with us a little bit, which is always nice. We've had tastier food at other local Asian restaurants so we'll probably pass on coming back soon. We wish them well.

Our go-to dim sum spot near Chapel Hill!…read more This is a wonderful family-run restaurant that blends modern simplicity with traditional charm. The staff are incredibly friendly and hardworking, and the atmosphere feels both welcoming and authentic. All items are affordable and with reasonable prices! It's the only legit dim sum place near Chapel Hill/Carrboro, about a 25-minute drive for us--and we gladly make the trip almost every week. We simply can't get enough of their food! Warning: Everything on their menu is dangerously addictive. You've been warned! Our Favorites 2. Pork Dumpling (Siu Mai / Siomai) -- Steamed pork in a wonton wrapper, perfectly juicy with just the right balance of pork and vegetables in every bite. A delicious classic done right. 6. Beef Onion Dumpling in Chili Sauce -- One of the best dumplings we've had--and we've been to dim sum spots all over the world! The beef is flavorful and juicy, wrapped in a thin, perfectly chewy skin. The chili sauce complements the filling beautifully without overpowering it. Generous portion, amazing value, flawless execution. 9. Steamed BBQ Pork Bun -- Soft, fluffy buns filled with mildly sweet BBQ pork. Comforting, classic, and delicious every time. 11. Egg Yolk Bun -- Lightly sweet custard filling inside soft steamed buns. The perfect bite of dessert to end your dim sum feast. 16. Bean Skin Stuffed with Pork -- Juicy, lightly seasoned pork wrapped in delicate bean skin. Flavorful but not overpowering--simple and satisfying. 27. Crispy Shrimp Ball -- Juicy and lightly seasoned shrimp goodness inside a crispy ball. They disappeared into the void of my stomach as soon as they touched our table. 28. Crispy Taro Puff with Chicken -- Think of these as bite-sized empanadas with savory, well-seasoned chicken inside--like the best mini chicken pot pies! Crispy, flavorful, and completely addictive. I could easily eat 30 of these! 41. Crispy Beef Onion Pot Sticker -- Pan-fried to golden perfection for that satisfying crunch. The beef and chives inside are juicy and flavorful, and the portions are generous. I dream about these dumplings when I'm asleep. Absolute perfection. Take all my money! The Finishing Touch Dim sum is meant to be enjoyed with tea, and they offer a simple traditional brew that pairs beautifully with every dish. If there's one downside--it's that they're only open Friday through Sunday. We wish they were open all week! Everything on their menu is so good! Best Dimsum and service in Durham!

Objectively speaking, this is one of the better dim sum options within the area, and is a great…read morelocation to get some of the classic dim sum options. I've had the pleasure of eating some really good dim sum, and while I can admit that the dim sum here will never be as good as places in New York, I can say that they do a decent job and that the experience will be enjoyable for any eater. Rather than delivering dishes on the traditional cart, Dim Sum Asian Bistro uses a menu where you can mark off the dishes that you want. There are a lot of different steamed, fried, and a la carte options that you can choose from. A lot of the basics are done pretty well. They have good pan fried dumplings, shrimp dumplings, shao mai, and coconut pudding. They also have some other, complex dishes that we really enjoy. Their curry powder turnip cake is some of the best out there. The curry flavor pops and the fry is absolutely perfect. Crispy on the outside, but warm and soft on the inside. They also make their chicken feet really well, which is a tough one to do sometimes. I know that there will be some good options. Although Dim Sum Asian Bistro has some good things, they also serve some things that you would just be better off not ordering. They have three different types of rice crepe dishes with meat. Their best is easily the shrimp, and you should stick to that. In fact, I would avoid the beef version at all costs, it is made with a beef paste and the texture was so strange, it was kind of unappetizing! I also think their fried rice could use some work, and I think some items, like their custard buns, could have come from the frozen section. I think my family can be pretty critical about dim sum since it has been a big part of our personal culture. However, sometimes I feel I need to take a step back and look at it broadly. I've come here with some of my friends who don't eat dim sum consistently and they are always wowed by the experience. From that perspective, I can see how this place hits the mark. They serve pretty authentic food and make it taste good. There is always a buzz about the restaurant and people come and go over the weekend. It's no wonder you might have to wait to get a table, Dim Sum Asian Bistro is definitely doing something right!

I came alone so Combo A was perfect for me as it came with an appetizer, side, platter of vegetables, and two meats. For the broth, I had medium spice level and I recommend half and half tomato or getting mini as it can get VERY spicy even at medium. They added a lot of spice to it which I was a little bit surprised, but I was able to tolerate it. For the appetizer I had their crispy pork belly and it was a huge portion, nothing too special about it but was crunchy and went well with the chili flakes. For the side, I had fried rice and it was just regular fried rice but went really well with the spicy broth. The meats and vegetables were fresh and everything came out quickly and the staff was friendly as well.

Fantastic ambiance, really attentive service and fresh ingredients. It's not all you can eat, you order by plate. Which is nicer, you don't feel so bloated after eating there because you can portion control easier, and it's more cost effective. I'm personally a big fan of their beef cuts, tripe, lamb, even some more niche cuts like the ox aorta are good too. The side dishes are great too. Particularly a fan of their fried rice cakes. While their noodles are definitely a standout in terms of texture and chew, some of the dishes we ordered this time were a letdown... Between the three of us, we tried two noodle dishes (hand pulled noodles with spare ribs & shaved noodles with bean paste aka zha jiang mian) and two regular dishes that came with rice (eggplant with garlic sauce & Hunan roasted pork aka hong shao rou). Outside of the regular menu that comes in a giant booklet, we also ordered the salted egg yolk lava buns off of their separate dim sum menu. In terms of the good, I absolutely LOVED the texture of the shaved noodles and also really enjoyed the texture of the hand pulled noodles, though I personally prefer a wider noodle which would be the shaved ones. Additionally, the eggplant with garlic sauce was solid and so were the salted egg yolk lava buns! Now in terms of the not so great, while we understand that Hunan roasted pork comes with pork belly which can be fatty, many of the pork belly pieces in this dish were pretty much all fat with no lean meat (basically inedible) which I have not seen in this dish at other restaurants. Also, the sauce that came with the shaved noodles was very one dimensional and just tasted of sweet bean paste with very little savory / umami flavor.
