I'm confused because their awning says Dumpling Buddy and that's what Uber Eats calls it too but my receipt said "Oriental Chinese" I guess they are under new management? TLDR: All in all, I appreciate their dumplings and that the menu goes beyond generic. Anyway, my first experience was a walk-in to take a chance on some dumplings for takeout. I was touched that the woman behind the counter offered us tea (in actual ceramic mugs!) while we waited! The dumplings were good, especially the mini juicy soup dumplings. I've had enough dumpling trauma in the Boston area that I never know what to expect, so I was quite pleased. That itself says a lot, particularly for an unassuming takeout spot whose raison d'être isn't dumplings The second time around, I found them on Uber Eats (I didn't realize they have their own website under "Oriental Chinese", as I couldn't find Dumpling Buddy's website) Ordered spring rolls and egg rolls but they were identical. Nevertheless, whatever they were was really delicious! The hot chicken wings were pretty good, too. This is the kind of Chinese that small-town America likes; fried, heavy on the meat and will keep you warm at night. Egg rolls? Oh man. I don't know what's in them, but get two. That alone will fill you up... but no! There's pork fried rice--emphasis on the "fried". It's delicious, amazing, and goes well with the chicken fingers, or chicken tenders, or teriyaki. Old Stinky P. really dislikes giving negative reviews...he really does. But the food he got here recently was really not at all good. Apps were tough and some were not edible...and rice was really awful. On the plus side...the Egg Roll was tasty...and they did give two Duck sauces. How the hell did we end up with Dumping Buddy the worst Chinese food restaurant ever in Magoun square. That lady is clueless. I was to lazy to get into my car and now I'm out $35. It's been well over a year and I got sucked into giving it another chance and now I feel like I gotta call the health inspector, to me it's that bad... You tell her and she shrugs her shoulders I literally wanted to return the food... I'm really don't want to be mean to small business. but this place just isn't good. We used to love this place. The food was pretty good for the price, and the portions in the combination plates were good.. The new owners ruined a good business.. The food is oily, the portions are smaller, the boneless ribs were like leather, and it doesn't taste good..I miss the old Oriental. Great place! The delivery is really fast and the portions are big. I love the dumplings and they give you a ton of them! I got 10 huge fried dumplings and they were delicious. I love the pork fried rice too. By the time I finished the dumplings I was so full I didn't even get to eat my chicken. Great food, big portions, average prices, and fast delivery. My Chinese food judging qualifications....Kowloon, china jade Beverly, china villa Middleton..these are the places I measure all Chinese food against. If you don't like these places, then you have no business eating Chinese food. Ordered the the Pu Pu platter, Lobster chow mein, and pork fried rice.. I posted a picture of the "lobster" chow mein; which was actually imitation crab meat in a disgusting slop sauce. 0 ZERO .... I didn't even take a second bite.. what a disgrace; masquerading imitation crab meat around as Lobster.....to Bostonians. SHAME! Chicken wings were pretty good.. not your traditional east coast Chinese chicken wings. They have some kind of coating over the skin, reminiscent of Popeyes... but they were still pretty good. 6 Chicken on a stick... very much like the CHISTICK at the Hong Kong at fanuel hall. Above average... 5.5 Beef teriyaki... pretty standard.. nothing more, nothing less. 5 Chicken fingers.. standard... 5 Fried shrimp.... 5 Egg rolls were actually the best part.. even a little (tiny bit) spicy... 7 Boneless spare ribs.. common.. 5 Crab Rangoon... below average.. a little sweet... 4.5 Pork fried rice.. very par for the course.. 5.. and you get about a gallon of it. I prefer my boneless spareribs without the sweet sauce & while theirs has it, it's not dripping/too much. Really good LO mein but flavorless chicken and fried rice. Would order the pu-pu platter and LO mein again, but probably avoid anything else. Overall, there's better places that I trust everything will be tasty. read more

So glad I randomly found this place through Grub Hub! Their broccoli w/ garlic sauce is particularly good- it tastes like general gau's sauce but w/ veggies, so that's awesome. Their fried rice is quality w/ big chunks of veggies as well. Spring roll is okay. Beef w/ broccoli is very good, according to my dining companion, and the lo mein was just good, not great. Overall, very solid. Also, reasonably sized portions mean a small (i.e. a pint) is truer to a small than most places (so go large, i.e. a quart, if you want a more typical Chinese restaurant portion!). My new go-to for online ordering/delivery. Highly recommend it! read more

So. The way I rate Chinese food is how good it holds up under a variety of scenarios. I typically order chicken lo mein, hold the veggies (except mushrooms if I'm feeling "healthy"), and six crab rangoons. I order this every time, without fail. Under normal conditions, this food is exactly what I want. It is filling, delicious, and has the exact amount of sauce I want on the noodles. The rangoon are never soggy and always perfectly crisp without being burnt. The chicken in the lo mein is white meat and large, thin slices rather than brown, fatty crumbles. I always feel like I'm getting my money's worth and not once have I regretted ordering. That said, I'm not always eating Chinese delivery under normal circumstances. This meal has been eaten while having guys' night with the housemates. It has been eaten cold out of the fridge while running late to work. It has been eaten half-microwaved for breakfast when I'm not functional enough to work any other household appliance. It has been eaten at 3am while spending too long on the internet, lost down a Wikipedia hole. It has even been eaten buck naked in the shower while crying about an ex. (Screw you, Keith. I deserved better.) Each and every time, Oriental has come through. Oriental has always been there when I needed it and I will remain a faithful customer forever. This is a note of appreciation for one of my favorite eateries anywhere. I've been eating the delicious food here for years, and it's just some of the best Chinese cooking I've ever had. Tonight, we ordered another wonderful dinner and learned that they will be closing temporarily this weekend, like so many other restaurants right now. I can't wait till they reopen. I'll be there waiting with menu in hand. Oriental is a little vest-pocket storefront take-out place that might not draw you in from the street, but the food is as good or better than a lot of full service restaurants. The menu is heavy on New York Chinatown-style classics, plus their own spins on other dishes, but the skill of the cooks and the quality of the ingredients bump the old classics up a lot of notches. Some of our favorite dishes are the General Tso's Chicken, Hot and Sour Soup, String Beans with Garlic Sauce, and my all-time favorite Mala Crispy Chicken - a little sweet with a solid kick of wok-fried thin-sliced hot peppers. And hands down, Oriental makes the best Won-ton Soup I have tasted (with the best chicken broth ever) and the best roast pork. Happen to come in for some lunch General Tsos with rice, it's your standard takeout restaurant door, interior and atmosphere to follow as well. The young girl who took my order had a strangely rude and cold approach to taking my order. Her parents (I'm just assuming from their interactions?) were busy so she quickly took off her bag when she walked in and helped me. They took their time to finish the dish and packed it nicely and I grabbed it to go. The food was good, really sweet chicken, not as spicy as I hoped! But decent portion considering it was the lunch version. Can't speak on takeout for delivery but it was your average experience. read more

May be one of the worst in the area. Beef fried rice was flavorless. Lo mein was made with thick over cooked noodles. Dumpling dough was very thick. Chicken wings were breaded which was weird. Chow mein was made with cheap chicken. The only good thing we ordered were the barbecue ribs. Overall they serve mediocre (at best) food made with cheap ingredients. I am saddened by this food. Hot damn, am I glad Jesse pulled out this menu instead of our standard go to Chinese delivery joint, Pu Pu Hot Pot. We ordered, and I first noted the friendliness of the person on the other line. Usually when ordering, you get cut off and it's not pleasant. This phone order was pleasant. The only thing they didn't clue me in on was how long the delivery would take, but it ended up being pretty quick. First thing I noticed upon delivery: heavy bag. We ordered two combo plates, one with lo mein and one with beef with broccoli. Those both came with fried rice. A LOT of fried rice. Upside: it's really good. We ordered scallion pancakes, some dumplings, and some candy meat. All was really flavorful. The scallion pancakes had good scallion flavor, and the dumplings were well flavored with garlic and didn't just taste like fried things. Candy meat=standard candy meat. The beef with broccoli won our hearts over, as it was in a really fantastic garlic sauce, and tasted fresh and great. The lo mein was stuffed with big chunks of chicken, and also was a good dish. We'll be ordering from here again, perhaps when we've got more people around.....we've now got leftovers for a while, and it was for about $35, including tip. read more

This place was super underwhelming. At first I was happy because they had general tso's chicken, but it wasn't flavorful--along with everything else that came with my meal. In fact, it actually had a weird taste to it that I still can't put my finger on. The crab rangoons had a strange consistency. The food is good, but after the ordeal I experienced today I would recommend that you make them read your order back before you hang up the phone. The woman took the wrong order, didn't read it back, and when I questioned it she dismissed me. When the food arrived, it was the wrong order and I had been overcharged. When I called to clear things up she was rude and obnoxious...customer service is virtually non-existant as far as I'm concerned. They did return with a replacement order, but she was blaming me the whole time and the delivery man who brought the food was scowling. The business I work for orders hundreds of dollars worth of food from this business on a monthly basis. I have to say, I'm definitely a fan! Wonton soup is good, not transcendent, but tasty and delivered super hot. Pork fried rice is great, full of flavour. If you ever ordered from China Delight you know that Orientals is better. I just recently moved to Somerville about a year so finding a good spot for chinese was pretty difficult. Now Orientals is no Orientals that they have in Codman Square Dorchester, but I would have to give them at least 3 stars. The first time I ordered from them I got a pu pu platter for two. It was pretty mediocre. It included crab rangoon(the ratio of crab meat to cream cheese didn't level out, but was still pretty good), chicken fingers, chicken wings (definitely dry, and pretty much lacked flavor), beef, and chicken teriyaki (the chicken was big chunks of meat and gross), and spareribs that was so so, but greasy. Another time I ordered I got the orange chicken, and the general taos. it was extremely tasty and not hard like other restaurants tend to make it. The only bad comment I can really make about them is the time it takes to be delivered. I can say that no matter how long it takes its always still hot. Nothing is fresh or crisp. The egg rolls are reheated and from a frozen mass produced factory. If you like limp oily food that is worse than frozen you buy at stop n shop go here. Otherwise, skip it. We have had several good orders from this place. Not great, as things arrived tasting of oil more often than not (I like my fried rice to taste like...rice). Our last order was December 6. I remember the date because that was the night we had to wake up at 4am to catch a flight to go on vacation, and the night we made the fateful decision to order Oriental for an 8pm dinner. Dude showed up to deliver the food, called me from the front of the building (we live in the rear), saying he was here and could I come down the three flights to get the food. I said, "As usual, please ring the buzzer in the rear and we will let you in". He said OK, and then called me back to tell me that he couldn't do it "because he had his kid with him". I met him at his car in pajamas -- I saw no kid in the car. LAZY. About 15 minutes before leaving for our flight I began sweating and vomiting. Managed to get myself on the plane -- have you ever vomited during take-off? I can unfortunately say I have. Way less cool than you might think. I had classic food poisoning for the first 48 hours of my vacation. Totally gross and I puked all over the one pair of pajama pants I brought with me. For $13+ i got the spareribs, chicken wings, beef teriaki, and crag rangoons. Spareribs were unconventional. Chicken wings had no taste to them and were simply breaded( you would of thought you were at kfc), and the beef teriaki was rubbery. Just an all around terrible experience. After 3 years of consistently good food from Oriental I figured it was time to write a review. These guys are my go-to for Chinese food delivery in the Somerville area, hands down. The vegetables are really fresh and well cooked (not mushy, just enough crunch), the egg rolls are the best I've found around the area, and the portions are really generous (plus they give you rice with everything unlike many other places around here). Fav dishes have been chicken/beef with broccoli or garlic sauce, steamed dumplings, and I also dig their sesame chicken or General Gau's when I want some spice. Got very sick after eating chicken and broccoli. Turned out to be campylobacter, which is a bacteria from uncooked or undercooked chicken. :( The food tasted okay though. The sauce on the chicken and broccoli was heavier/saltier than I normally like. Unfortunately I can't recommend based on the number of days I was confined to my bed / the toilet. I used to love Oriental- I mean you can only have so many expectations with Chinese take out but sadly Oriental has fallen off my "go to" list. Although the food was still decent, and they did honor my request "please do not use a lot of oil" WOW have portions gone down! It used tone a bargain; tons of food for cheap BUT after using foodler to order I was charged a $3 delivery fee. I still tipped on top of that because I know the driver may not see that $3. The bag was noticeably smaller than other local places. Inside a small black container with my fried rice and beef with broccoli. In a bag were my 3 small crab rangoons, and I didn't even get a fortune cookie! So next time I will retreat to one of the other joints that gives me 3 days worth of Chinese for the same price! read more

Hello, This is the Best place to order Tsa Gua's (I ask for it mild and they actually get it right , some people get scared to try things because it new or different things but talking to people doesn't mean we have to like it "we can agree to disagree and find some common ground" I found by switching my words to mild for the spicy chicken (that's what the General Gua's pronounce for English reference) that friends and family never would eat but now love ALL of our Children ask for it by name and they have awesome Crab Rangoon's too . Family from California still rave about this establishment great for vegetarians too. My Ma Ma (husband) is happy to enjoy all veggies she likes and misses Oriental whenever she is away from us.
