Thick dough at top of xiao long bao
    Julia L.

Definitely do not get the xiao long bao (soup dumplings) here. The skin was rather thick, and the top was so doughy (see pics for the substantial chunks of dough). The soup and meat itself was decent, but the thick skin sort of defeats the point. The beef noodle soup tasted fine, but nothing to write home about. The beef with chili sauce appetizer was probably the best out of what we ordered. The chili sauce was a back of the tongue/mouth sort of spicy, and the beef tasted good. Service was attentive and employees were friendly. It was on the quieter side when we dined in, not because it was empty but because the vibe seems more relaxed and calm.

Nice ambient, very clean and friendly staff. Have street parking, spacious in side. However from what I ordered Dan Dan noodle and pork intestines preserved cabbage, I can see that the cooking method is not too Authentic. The dishes are mediocre.

    Pan Fried Pork Buns

Very casual restaurant with pretty spacious tables. There was no wait on a weeknight although it did get pretty busy. We got a nice booth near the window, felt nicely spaced apart from others. The service was very quick and attentive! The egg drop soup was very hearty for a chilly night, a classic! The pork buns were very juicy and packed with meat. The chow foon was also yummy and perfect noodle texture. The chicken was a soft velvety chew. Massive portions! We left very full! For the price it was a pretty solid eat.

Food is great but they do steal money from you. I used my credit card for take out and left a five dollar tip. I received an alert from Capital One that not only the five dollars was added but also an additional 40% ($27.19) that they took it upon themselves to arbitrarily add. I am glad I saved the receipt but watch out for them they are avarice and sneaky, no surprise. Pay cash, no tip for take out. When did that become a thing anyway???

Kung pao chicken (chicken w peanuts)

Someone suggested Zoe's to me in passing over 4 years ago, but I had always confused it with the other breakfast-food Zoe's on Mass Ave until recently. My friend and I happened to be in the area when looking for somewhere to eat lunch, so it was a great chance for us to drop in and try it out. They have a very nice selection for lunch specials (and so cheap! only $12.50). I ordered the kung pao chicken and my friend the mapo tofu. Both dishes were fantastic! Kung pao chicken was well cooked and with a surprisingly large portion size; peppers, water chestnuts, and peanuts were plentiful and paired well with the juicy chicken bites. Sauce was not very heavy, which was good, but alas not too spicy either, which was less good. Mapo tofu was a great choice too - looked quite spicy at first but was actually not that bad. Also, the sides were excellent. My egg drop soup was tasty, but expectedly so - the real hidden gem was the vegetable fried rice, which was REALLY surprisingly good (so delicious!) Interior is very clean and simple - I liked how comfortable the ambience was, and the servers were all very nice. I can't believe it took me so long to come by. Such delicious food at such a low price - I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Crispy Whole Fish with Sweet and Sour Sauce

Came here on a Sunday around noon. Loved that it was a quieter spot. Food came out pretty quickly and was authentic. I liked that there were Hunan dishes, rather than only Sichuan which most places are in the US. Every dish we had was on point, particularly the tang cu fish - the sauce was perfectly sweet and there was a lot of it but the fish was still crispy underneath with tender meat. I was pleased that they brought every table tea but was quickly disappointed when they said you have to pay for rice (not very OG of them!). 5% discount if you pay in all cash.

    Hot and Sour Soup

Hot sour soup was good and shrimps were fresh. Beef was with a little too much meat-tender powder and tasted wired

Probably the best Chinese food I've had in Cambridge/Boston/Somerville so far! Portions were big and food was delicious with a kick of spice in each dish. Service was fast :)

I do not recommend the fried rice, it's very salty and soggy. Doesn't have any taste.

Really great Sichuan cuisine for the price. If you're homesick for some specific regional Chinese food this place delivers.

From the very attentive and supportive staff to the intricate details that they have throughout the restaurant , it is truly transformative experience. As for the food, if you're in the mood of something spicy, especially that Sichuan type of heat, then the beef soup is the one for you! I personally would recommend the green pepper pork because it was absolutely delicious! I could not stop eating it and it was just perfect in every which way! Looking forward to coming here again to try many other delicious foods and will probably bring a couple of more friends because their group seating is absolutely stunning!

Starting with an iPad menu, our ordering experience with our waiter was subpar. We ended up with extra things ordered that weren't part of our initial order. In good news the food was absolutely delicious. Everything was fire and the waiter poured 5 glasses of water for 3 of us. So we could cool down without needing to flag him down. With the only non-Asian waiter in the restaurant, he struggled with basic elements of service. Inattentive. Requests went unmet (lemons for water). We sat for more than 15 mins after asking to box up leftovers and to close our check. This was all a little embarrassing, as we brought my boyfriend's father. After singing praises of the NYC spot, this was a disappointment.

I was shocked by the price for the soup dumplings...until they arrived. $12 is great until you realize they're bite size. I'm also not sure if it was because I got them delivered, but they were rlly lacking soup. They were frankly a bit dry. The entire order didn't come with any sauces either so I had to use what I had at home. The chili pork dumplings made up for the soup ones. Super solid. They have their dough down to a science. Some of the best I've had. I am not sure I'd order from here again, gonna stick with Boston Soup Dumpling for time being!

I wasn't sure abotu the dan dan based on appearance being just the meat and noodles but the meat was seasoned very well, so it was super flavorful. When we went inside, there was only one other party there and no music, so just whispers and the sounds of utensils against plates. There are about 4-5 booths and 1-2 regular tables to choose from. Since l am not familiar with Sichuan cuisine, I had Al help me choose my dishes. I went with the dumplings in chili sauce, fried rice, eggplant in garlic sauce, and chongquin chicken. While we waited, we were given water. The dishes came out at different times. They first served us the dumplings which were really good. The sauce they were in did have some chili sauce, but it was mostly like a sweet soy sauce and really tasty. It came with about 6 dumplings with a perfectly cooked wrapper and filled with flavorful pork - simple but delicious. Next was the eggplant. I was expecting a heavy garlic presence, but it was more like a sweet and sour sauce. The eggplant was very tender, but really hot so we had to wait to let it cool down a bit. The rice came after. I honestly think this was one of my favorite dishes since it was perfectly cooked, great flavor, and good portion. Lastly, the chicken came out. There was a large pile of chicken, but half of it was peppers. The chicken was cut into little bite sized pieces, each fried perfectly. Some pieces were more tongue numbing than others but it was nothing aggressive; very gentle and comfortable numb. I would have liked if there were music, but the no music was fine too; an escape from chaotic reality. Our total was around $50, which wasn't bad for the amount of food we got. I would come back to try other items.
