My wife and I have collected oriental rugs since the 1960s and have some very high-end ones. We've had rugs cleaned in Washington, D.C., Sarasota, Florida, and in the Atlanta Georgia area. We've seen good jobs and a couple of bad ones. We have a large circular rug that sits beneath our breakfast area which has had a lot of heavy use and was really dirty. We called Oriental Express and they satisfied my wife's interrogation so we made arrangements to have them wash and clean it. They arrived on time to pick up our rug and were exceedingly carefully insuring they did no damage to our home while moving the rug. The two young gentlemen who came were exceptionally pleasant, polite, and friendly with a lot of patience as we asked a ton of questions. Today the rug was returned and they put it back under the table for us and it looks as if it looked when new again. All the stains were gone, as was the filth and dirt and the fringe, which is often damaged by cleaners, didn't have a single bit of damage done to it and it was spotlessly clean. It was obvious to us that this company understands how to properly wash an oriental rug, and sadly many don't! Once again the same 2 gentlemen delivered the rug back as if it was their own rug. Obviously, this company is used to and has the knowledge to properly clean handmade oriental rugs and we will be using them again in the future. Garret Grim and his partner are exceptional employees in the way they represent themselves and their company to the customers. Unlike many other businesses out here they had a professional paint design of their company's logo and information on their delivery van which was also spotlessly clean on the outside each time they came. Our rugs had been defiled by our pups - raw chicken, and poop accidents. Thankfully all in 2 days of each other allowing us to make sure all was good before another accident occurred. I contacted them regarding a brand new rug that sadly one of my dogs decided to use as a pee pad in one section - (she's 12 1/2 years old so not about the dog) - told them the EXACT fabric of the rug and was told no problem. When it was returned to me it has been shrunken - its misshaped - the texture of the material is completely different and the color is off. When I pointed it out and commented on the issues - the delivery guy told me I should not buy that kind of rug! it was NOT a cheap rug. So I would NOT recommend - sadly I have no recourse - only to say I assumed given their "experience" - this should have been an easy job - not one that destroyed a brand new rug. read more

My mother owns a flokati rug that, after seventeen years of age, needed a severe cleaning due to dust, etc. She contacted Oriental Express and Zach and his assistant came over. They moved the furniture without issue and took the rug. Zach explained the cleaning process and was very thorough. Two weeks later, the rug returned beyond immaculate. To say it looked brand new would be an understatement. They also put a special coating on it to prevent damage to accidental spills. Zach moved the furniture and put the rug back down, again, without issue. Truthfully, it looked 10x better than it did before and made the room look better. I have attached two pictures. What a great experience with this company. I have a wool rug that I purchased in 1986. It has a ducks and geese sitting in a pond motif. The rug was probably last cleaned in 1997 and put into storage. I brought it to Oriental Express to be cleaned so that I can use it in my bedroom. The gentlemen here did an excellent job! I've used Oriental Express at least three times in the 10-12 years. Giving them my repeat business of six rugs (each at least $10K+ each) says something about how much I trust them. The original owner would recall my house and every rug every time I called. Granted, he could have all that information in a computer, but i don't think he was that well-organized when I first met him. Back then, it was clearly a mom and pop shop. This year, I could tell that there was definitely more organization and an expansion of the business into computerized systems and more employees. The guy I'm talking with is always professional, doesn't rush me, and answers all my questions. Each time, the rugs come back brighter. They haven't removed every stain, but I recognize that the nature of rugs is it's going to be based on how much effort you put into maintaining them over the years. My early years, I spilled a lot of coffee and threw up on them (ahem). Now, it's baby and pee stains. I'm thoroughly happy with their effort and happy enough with the price. I feel happy to have found a service that I want to stick to and continue to see them every few years. read more

I did some research before choosing someone to clean my handmade rugs. I experimented with one rug, and saw they have a great number of steps to complete the cleaning, all done on their site. Bill took me on a tour and explained exactly what they do. I was pleased with their service, and now brought in another rug. The first time I skipped the microseal, but my other rug had some traffic stains (which they got out), and I decided to do it. I didn't realize that it was permanent protection. I needed my 35-year old cream cotton sectional cleaned--regular furniture/rug cleaner folks know better than to attempt this because if white/cream cotton gets wet, it will dry yellow or even brown. I finally found Oriental Express on Yelp and called and made an appointment. With serious trepidation I watched the man clean the sectional and sure enough some of it dried a bit yellow while some looked pretty good. I called the owner, Bill, and he sent the same guy out (their pro) and he agreed with me that it was yellow in spots. He proceeded to re-do the ENTIRE sectional and this time it dried beautifully! I am so impressed with their skill, their customer service and even more importantly their attitudes--so nice and absolutely accomodating. I highly recommend them. read more

Didn't have a good experience at all. Did business through NW Rugs and it was a mess from start to finish. Had NW Rugs deliver my rug to me. Two weeks later got invoice from Oriental Express and was told I was two months late paying,needed cash for the other 3 rugs I gave Nw Rugs to do after this first one. Was told $800. To clean a new rug and they wanted cash Up front because I was such a deadbeat about paying them. Ended up picking up my rugs from Oriental Express and being treated like I was not wanted or welcomed as a paying customer. Made me carry my rugs out and load by myself. Waited a week for a call back for an estimate. Agreed on price for rug removal and cleaning and also furniture cleaning (sofa and 2 chairs). Stated should be 1 week for rugs and furniture would be done at time of delivery of cleaned rugs. Called exactly 1 week later for update or delivery date. At 3pm on a Wednesday got the answering service. Left a message. 1 and 1/2 hours later, called again. Left a second message. 1 hour later was called by Payton. This person needs some customer service skills. Cleaning was ok. young man doing the work (Zak) very nice and efficient. Next time I need this service I will seek out a company that answers their business phone, returns calls in a timely manner, doesn't argue with me and wants my business. Very happy with this family-owned business. They've cleaned and micro sealed all three of my hand-woven rugs. I rate them highly in every way - customer service, responsiveness and workmanship. Re: price, their micro seal and cleaning work worth the money spent for expensive and valued rugs. The alternative option - no coverage at all - potentially the wallet buster. Recently, my big dog plagued with a bout of diarrhea, pooed on a rug micro sealed the week before. Scary!! After explaining my concerns about chemically managing the problem with Nature's Miracle, the business owner showed up the next day, as promised and on time, checked the rug and advised us on how to proceed in the future.
