We drove to the Chinese place we have been going to for 17+ years forgetting they are closed on Monday. It was our 47th anniversary so we said well lets just go here instead. We've never been here. We were the only ones there at lunch. Kind of a Twilight Zone feeling. The place is very clean, the waitress was super nice, and the prices were fair. Maybe the food was not what I'm used to. I'm not saying it was bad but to me it was lacking. The sauce on the sweet and sour was very thin and the rice was not flavorful. Maybe I'll give it a second try sometime down the road but in the meantime I'll stick to my normal place. read more

The food is so good!! Really. Fresh, perfectly cooked vegetables, sauces are on point, that weird dark meat chicken that usually goes into things like kung pao is replaced by tender and juicy marinated white meat!!!! I'm a spoiled picky eater who's been to some one the best restaurants in the world and I must say, for a small town Chinese restaurant- they are crushing it!!!! These photos are only my lunch today. I've eaten many dishes over the years and they are all good. The cashew chicken ding is my mom's favorite and it's delicious! Overall very good quality food and a lot of it. We have always picked up our meals. They are very friendly but I'm reviewing the food only. We have ordered food from this Chinese restaurant in Banks at least 6 times, always ordering a different chicken dish but the same Sesame Beef dish each time because my fiancé likes it. I've also ordered the Wor Wonton soup 3 times. Anyway, I have given this restaurant, Oriental Garden, a chance to be good but it's failed each time, mainly in flavor. Their dishes are plain tasteless! I've had to add salt every time! I've told them over the phone when I'm ordering to please use salt in their cooking but I guess the woman who answers the phone a lot doesn't understand. I've said, also, very plainly that their food doesn't have any taste. I looked at other recent reviews and reviews from long ago and quite a few have also written that their food is tasteless, bland or has no flavor! Their chicken dishes and Wor Wonton soup seemed pretty fresh but just flavorless! So, we've stopped ordering from them. I've eaten at hundreds of Chinese restaurants over the years from California to when I Iived in England and I must say the Chinese food in parts of Surrey, England is pretty bland, also, but that's to be expected! This is my favorite Chinese food restaurant in the area. Honestly- I used to love New Chinese Cuisine. But when they went temporarily out of business for a remodel, my husband and I had to start eating here to get our fill of Chinese food. Once New Chinese Cuisine opened, we went there to eat. And nothing will ever be the same again. We swore by NCC before, but once we went to oriental garden, we couldn't stop. The food is so delicious. It's a frequent craving lol. Plus the staff is SO INCREDIBLY FRIENDLY. Honestly doesn't get better. We always order crab puffs, hot and sour soup (not as salty as other places which I enjoy), Mongolian Beef, and general tso's chicken. So. Good. I will say the Mongolian Beef is on the oily side but DAMN it has so much flavor. read more

What a gem this place is! We just moved to town and have been craving Chinese Food. We placed an order to go and got Lemon Chicken (very much on the sweet side), Sweet & Sour Chicken (sauce in a separate container), Moo-Shu Pork and Fried Rice. There was so much food and it as really tasty! We ordered a lot with the idea of other places we have been and the small amounts of food we have received. My husband and I had enough for dinner (and were completely stuffed) and we each had enough to take for lunch and still have leftovers. Wait time was quick - about 10 minutes to receive the food after we ordered. The restaurant was your typical mom & pop Chinese food restaurant decor - plenty of seating. Well let me start by saying it was 10 after 9 and they close at 10 on a Friday night I'll go in there and I'm the only one there and I said oh you're not too busy and she said it's very late aren't you open until 10 yes yet I felt like I had come too late but they were going to be kind enough to make me a to-go bag that went from that restaurant to my table immediately into the trash $35 wasted these are the biggest in the ugliest and the hardest most unchewable Eggrolls I have ever seen in my life we try this over a year ago and didn't like it but we're craving Chinese with I'll give it one more chance at the Friday night surely it's good this was so bad and such a waste of hard-earned money we do flooring for a living spending $35 for a to-go meal for us is a lot shouldn't have combination plate being a plate instead of so many boxes we didn't know who had what we had to read the menu to put it together and subgum as we were leaving obviously they were closing and who are setting a meal for themselves and it was the most smelliest delicious steak with vegetables and it's sizzled and it wasn't on the menu but it didn't matter I had a whole bag until I got home and opened it going to post a picture of this egg roll heard a two-handed burritos on my fan but to ended Egg Roll come on it looks like it was an old egg roll rolling a new one I'd like to get my money back but I don't think that's going to happen read more

Very disappointed in the food. Very bland. Stopped on our way home from the beach and we were both quite hungry. Hot and sour was mediocre. "Chicken" Fried Rice had meat crumbs that look like someone picked out all the actual meat, some eggs, no vegetables- not even green onion- and no flavor. Mar Far Chicken was ok. Tender meat inside light crispy batter. Again, not much flavor. Sweet and Sour Chicken had good meat and crispy batter, but the sauce was bland, thin and watery, light orange (?) with no pineapple nor much flavor. We will not be stopping again. Because of incredibly heavy traffic on I-26 West, we ended up taking Hwy 6 and stopping in the charming little town of Banks for a late lunch after sitting in bumper to bumper stop and go traffic on a very hot day trying to get to the ocean. We were delighted by the food and the prices! It was very clean and simply decorated with those beautiful Chinese paintings made from feather stitch embroidery and filled with comfy booths and tables. I ordered off the lunch menu which goes until 3pm. I had Kung Po Shrimp with fried rice and my friend had the cantonese style chicken with peas and celery. I cannot rave about the sweet and sour soup that came complimentary, but the main dishes were very good. One poor young man was waiting on about 15 tables and the main part of the restaurant was packed. Nonetheless, our food came out quite quickly. The ingredients were fresh and good, the sauces also were clear on the palate like just the right temperature and cooking time had been applied to fresh good ingredients, the secret to good wokked food. I won't claim this is the finest Chinese cuisine I have tasted, because I lived in San Francisco for a decade of my life and I am spoiled, but this was a serendipitous find, the food was very yummy, and our bill came to under twenty dollars including soup, little egg rolls, the main dishes and the very fresh fortune cookies which had really great and unusual fortunes in them. This was absolutely the worst asian food I've had anywhere, of any variety. The noodles were actual overcooked spaghetti noodles in a watery sauce without flavor. Just total garbage, this food. The assorted meat and shrimp tasted as if they had been boiled for days, then wrung oit of their juices, which were the replaced in the stockpot with an old gym sock. Absolutely horrendous.
