Been here a few times before. Must be under new owners because the food is better than ever and the couple who run jt aren't the same as I remember. A lot of Chinese restaurants seem to overcompensate with msg, however I wasn't getting any of that in our dishes. The food was cooked perfectly. My boyfriend and I went here for lunch and the food was not good. There was hair in our sweet and sour chicken and we did not feel good after eating there. The plates, cups and silverware didn't look clean. We hardly ate any of the food, yet they didn't even ask why. The service wasn't good either. We had to call for someone to even get some water. This used to be a good place to go for a $5 lunch. For a variety of reasons those days are over, likely for good. It's 2x that price now. There are several Chinese places easy walking distance from the little mall where China Rim is. This place is on the lower end when it comes to high price, small portion size and the ho-hum quality of the food. If you're hungry, in a hurry and not overly fussy about what you eat, this place will do. Otherwise.... As others have mentioned you do need to check your credit card statement as you might find that it doesn't match your receipt. I had just such an experience so now I pay with cash. This is an order at the counter restaurant. No table service. I gather they expect a gratuity and if you don't provide one voluntarily they might have their own remedy. I happen to be a very generous tipper if I receive outstanding service. But I don't tip the counter help at McDonalds or places that operate under the same "no waitress" business model. Nothing against the biz or what they are doing but tipping is nothing more than a surcharge if all they do is take your order and hand you your food. I had expected this to be a stand-alone restaurant, maybe more fancy? But let me tell you - The food is some of the best Chinese we have had in a long time! The flavors were fresh and without a lot of the over sauced dishes you will order elsewhere. The BBQ pork (really, all of the meats) was sooo tender and flavorful! The people there - maybe the owners - were friendly and oh so helpful. No real liquor service but wine and beer, no big deal because the tea was brought right to the table. Bathroom was filthy with grime, as if it hadn't been cleaned for an unknown period of time. The light switch was literally gray with residue from countless fingers. A small restaurant but some of those dishes they make are really good. You will see lots of take out from this place. One of my favorite is chicken and shrimp kung pao. I used to ask for extra spicy and chef made it with hot oil, it was really amazing. I have also carried habanero peppers and the Chef added them for me in this dish. China Rim's food is always very good. Their Kung Pow chicken is uniquely delicious. Ready in 15 minutes for take out which we always do.

We've had takeout from here a couple of times. Meh. I did not find it delicious. We tried a variety of things on the menu, and nothing stood out, no seriously, I would tell you if it did. We also felt duped by the good yelp reviews, and so confused we thought we should try it twice to see if we had gotten it on an off night. I don't think so. We discovered China Rim when we moved to Cedar Mill and haven't gone anywhere else since. That was 20 years ago. My in-laws from NYC told us the potstickers were the best they'd ever had in the city. I arrived at 12:05 on a Thursday and I was the only person in the restaurant. It is a neat, small space, with seating for about 30. The lunch menu is $8.50 per meal at this time and included a small bowl of hot and sour or egg drop soup, hot tea, white rice, two fried wontons, and a selection of about 24 different menu items. I had read the reviews about the kung pao chicken and decided to ask some questions. Every chef makes their dishes a little different. The server was very nice and described the items in detail. I settled on the Szechuan Chicken and hot and sour soup. The soup came in a 6 ounce bowl and was very hot and moderately spicy. The main dish was served just 5 minutes after I ordered and was a substantial plate of food. The chicken was diced well, fresh, and lightly rolled in either flour or corn starch and wok'ed with a brown spicy bean / szechuan sauce with just the right amount of spice. Everyone is different, and on my spicy scale this was a 5-6 on a 1 no spice and 10 hot! scale. The dish had diced bamboo shoots and green bell pepper in it and traces of dried chilies in the sauce. I was brought a fortune cookie as I finished. I was in and out in 25 minutes, paid cash and left on the "too full" side. An excellent value, very good food, excellent service, and an absolute repeat of my business in the future. read more

I loooove this place...my family and I have been going here for years (since the 90's) and have never swayed. The owners are extremely friendly and prepare authentic Chinese for those in search of a delicious treat. My favorites: EVERYTHING...really!!! But, to be more specific, I never visit without getting the dumplings...I love the potstickers (made from scratch) and General Tso's Chicken.
