Oriental Garden is solid Chinese food. It is my go to for the area. The highlights are the beef and broccoli and the Shrimp with lobster sauce. It isn't mind blowing but you get what you expect, solid Chinese food. The general chicken can be a gamble. The rice is a bit on the dry side if you like it that way. The owner, Mae, is very helpful and friendly. I recommend parking right on the side but be careful backing out. read more

Where do I begin? It started with the restaurant telling us they had no 'large' shrimp and lobster and can only do small. Why they couldn't just put two smalls together and make a large is above my pay grade. the spare ribs were beyond dry and over cooked. the kung pao chicken was drenched in soy and - even though we asked for the peanuts on the side, as our little one is allergic - they not only left a few in the dish, they apparently forgot and picked out the rest by hand. Little disappointed. Ordered orange chicken with beef Lo mein. There was more shaved carrots then anything. 4 small pieces of beef that paid extra for. Did get a good size portion of chicken and lo mein: Paid $3 for cheesesteak roll. As you can see VERY SMALL & empty. Steamed dumplings were good. That was a plus. Wonton soup was like warm water. Fun Fact: fortune cookies can actually be traced back to Japan.  (The original version is known as "tsujiura senbei".) And on our first visit to Oriental Garden - they actually gave us enough fortune cookies but on a second visit... they don't give us any.  Sheesh! Pointless trivia aside... this establishment has been holding it down at the corner of one of the busiest intersections in town for as long as I can remember.  (Which can make parking a real treat, by the way.) First visit (when COVID was still in 'full bloom') and I wasn't too thrilled when I walked in.  It looked seedy (you can imagine crime dramas filming scenes here) - including what has to be the darkest and saddest aquarium I've ever encountered.  (The few fish in there had given up on life long ago.) Second visit (the following year) and... it was much brighter, cleaner, inviting.  (No, that aquarium is still in bad shape.) As for the grub?  Good.  Maybe not worth traveling any serious amount to visit and I'd recommend other Chinese take-out joints before this one.  But... very solid. From wonton soup to various fried rice dishes to Chow Mei Fun (my very first time ordering/trying this one - a really tasty dish) they were mighty fine. My personal fave take-out place in town is still Tasty Fusion, the Mrs. will never waver in her support of New Great Wall.  But Oriental Garden is a place we'd come back to, for sure. read more

I'm so disgusted by this place. I had ordered lunch from this restaurant with soup that comes with wonton chips. I poured the wonton chips into my soup and there was a freaking bug that slid right out of the bag into my soup... This place is clearly has health issues here and the staff is also rude, but I gave benefit of the doubt because this place is near my job. We have ordered takeout for years and I'm baffled why I never reviewed them. As of today they were not offering their sushi menu, but I never really ordered it because it wasn't quality. Chinese is the way to go with them. Spare rib tips, steamed dumplings, hot n sour soup, fried 1/2 chicken, shrimp shumai, and sweet n sour chicken is our normal go-to's. They make slightly better quick takeout versus other competitors. If they forget something, even a sauce, they bring it back without hesitation. They are cheaper to order delivery direct over the phone versus a delivery app, but I guess it depends where you live. My go-to spot over many years. I learned at a seminar years ago that people will leave a bad review and complain 10x more than a positive compliment for all previous interactions with a retail business of any kind. That's about it. I love this place. I've been ordering take out and delivery since I moved here in Dec '19, 10 months, and every time I've had a perfectly fine experience. Tried the others to give them a chance, but when I first went to OG to get the menu I saw many diners waiting patiently; asked them if the place was good. One guy replied "Do you see me standing here?" I thought I left my fave place behind in JC. MY order is always on time or delivered quickly, even in these horrid times. I'm not going into detail about the food, it's obvious that I love it but I will say this: I don't eat Sushi. Spare ribs on the bone delectable. We decided, given the holiday, that we'd treat ourselves to some delivery! One of my friends recommended Oriental Garden, so I suggested it to the family. After an hour passed, we were getting pretty upset. My husband had an 8:00 Zoom meeting, and it's now 7:35, but no food! We call, and get the same ole story- "It's on it's way...". After another 10 min, yay! It got here! Now, to the food itself. Miso? Thumbs up. Pork Buns? Thumbs up again! Hot & Sour Soup? More brothy, than we're used to, but it was good. Our Hunan Beef was not spicy/hot at all, as Hunan should be! Oh, btw, all of the food was lukewarm, so we spent a nice chunk of time reheating it all! The Beef/Broccoli Combo was a disaster. My daughter is very easy to please, but this made her sad. Oily, is the best way I can describe the Beef & Broccoli. Hope her stomach hangs in there! She never commented on the egg roll, but the so-called "fried rice" was not! There was no resemblance to fried rice in her order at all! Yellow rice with pieces of pork. So sad! I waited until the second occurrence to write a review, both have to do with the delivery men. Let me start off by saying I'm always in the $3-$5 range for local delivery tips. The first time it was raining out and I live at the bottom of a short apartment bldg driveway, the man did not drive down to meet me and stayed in his car while it was raining and handed me the food out the window. He then angrily started telling me where to leave a tip on the receipt since it was an online order. I asked him what I'm tipping for if I walk to you car and you don't even get out in the rain. He continued yelling about the tip and I didn't give him sh*t. I avoided the place a little and let it pass. Two days ago I get an order delivered to the front door, my order was $29 and change, I gave him $40 and asked for a $5 and five $1 to make a tip. He hands me $5 dollars and then looks confused when I asked for the rest of my change. Why are these drivers demanding tips and being so aggressive. GTFO of my face. I told him I decide what you get for a tip. I reluctantly gave him $3 but that's the last time I order from there. Sorry but there are 100 different Chinese takeout options in a square mile all with the same average food. There are some places close by that have no delivery charge and friendly drivers. I used the StubGrub app to order from this restaurant. I've done it many times with ease. Last nights ordering experience and delivery was smooth. I find the cost of the food to be very affordable and reasonable especially given the good quality of the food. I ordered the shrimp with broccoli combination dinner. I'm not a big fan of yellow fried rice. There were plenty of deliciously fried shrimp and I thought not enough broccoli for the dish. It was overwhelmingly rice. It came with a very greasy pork eggroll. Which I could not eat. I also ordered some fried dumplings and the smell was offputting when I opened up the container. They were soggy from the heat creating moisture inside of the plastic container so it was pretty unpleasant. I also did not eat that. The small order of barbecued spareribs were delicious. They were moist and covered in traditional Chinese barbecue sauce. I enjoyed that very much. I wasn't able to take pictures at the time that I opened up my meal last night but I am going to provide a picture of the leftovers in a bowl today just so you get a look at the food. read more

I really hate leaving this review but after living in Lyndhurst for 10 years and coming here for all of them I can't say I'm gonna keep coming back. I've gotten bad sushi before but whatever it happens sometimes. I've gotten funky tasting food meh, maybe an off day. I kinda got fed up when I got bad chicken twice. So I've ventured out and found a new local place. I must admit they do have good stuff when they're on their game. They do deliver quickly and are pretty friendly. The downside, I work hard for my $ and I wanna know I'm getting good food more often than not. read more

For a take out spot, they are definitely significantly above average! One thing I make the measure of a good Chinese restaurant whether it's a sit down or takeout spot is the Chicken Corn (sometimes called velvet chicken corn) soup. If a takeout spot has it, it's automatically higher end... When that soup is really good, that makes the restaurant upper echelon IMHO. This place makes one of the best versions of this soup I've ever had! Thus automatically making it top tier! Another unique feature is that you can order the fried rice spicy... It's really good that way! They are definitely a little towards the expensive side for takeout, but the quality justifies this, they definitely use higher quality everything! read more

An hour after it was supposed to be delivered person on the phone was rude and didn't care that we waited nearly two hours for our food. I've been ordering from here for years but won't be anymore. I ordered a rainbow roll today with spicy mayo on the side.. not only did it not come with spicy mayo, but the roll looked "old" .. I said OK fine I'll get past it. I open the soy sauce that they gave me instead of spicy mayo, and there's a noodle in it.. IT WAS USED. So I go to eat seaweed salad that I ordered instead... Come to find they only gave me one chopstick instead of two. I grab my own fork already knowing I'm going to leave a bad review and to top it off seaweed salad also had a noodle in it and was an odd color. never ordering from here again . We found a cockroach in our food tonight! I ordered from this place for a long time, but after tonight, NEVER again! After my mom and I each ate our delivered orders, my boyfriend opened up his sweet and sour chicken with pork fried rice and was about to take a bite. There was a cooked COCKROACH in his rice! I am sick to my stomach and we have all thrown up because of this! I have taken pictures and we have the food in our kitchen, sealed in its container. This is not a bad place! It's pretty decent takeout Chinese on a block that has a bunch of weird shops. There's a Mexican bagel shop down the street which I don't understand, and a trading card store next door to that. Who still buys trading cards? I usually do take out and eat at my station, but sometimes I'll use my lunch break (which is about 10pm for my shift) to stop by the liquor shop across the street, do a fifth of rum with one of the boys at work, and get rowdy with some wonton soup. The wonton soup here is a champ. $2.85 a quart. Add a Roast Pork Egg Roll ($1.20), 10 pcs chicken nuggets ($3.50), and a forty from across the street ($2.50), and you got urself a Lyndhurst happy meal, bro. They deliver, too. I work at a gentleman's establishment a few clicks away and they are always here fast. I dunno if they're excited to see the t*tties up in here or what, but the service is good. Sometimes this lil girl comes by, always real nice once in a while kinda sassy if theyre busy I think, but what is she doin bringing food around? Next time I'm gonna give her an application haha nah jp they only like fat chicks up in here. Anyway, food here is cheap, good, and fast at the Garden. Wonton soup forever. read more

All I get is "sorry" NO let us make it up to you. OR, Better Yet, Keep track of order mistakes and if you are lucky enough to have that customer call again, send that order over for free as a way of saying We value your business of 20 years. Yes, 20 years. Thanks for staying with us. But no. NOTHING. EVER. I'm finally done with this place once and for all. Time to try another Chinese take out place and there are tons of choices which baffles me even more. With all that competition, you would think they would care more. COMPLETE GARBAGE from overcooked food to hour and a half delivery time. Last 2 times I ordered from here, yes there, not grub hub or uber eats or some 3rd rate service, directly from Oriental Garden the delivery took an hour and a half, should've learned the first time when the food was delivered cold, but I didn't learn. Again, cold food delivered. I live 1.8 miles from the place, which I noticed they bumped up the miles to 2.6, how? I guess to get the extra delivery charge cost. The prices are already inflated to unreal prices. Cost me 50 bucks for 2 chicken combos and a small order of spare rib, from a Chinese takeout place.. Hey, I wouldn't mind if it wasn't delivered cold and wasn't sooo over cooked. The chicken and ribs were like eating shoe leather, it was disgusting and very disappointing. With so many places in the area how is it a place like this still around? Well if you love waiting hours for your food that's cold and completely crap, I guess there'll be around a while, Enjoy.
