Five stars for the freshly made dumplings and the huge portions of from-scratch wok-tossed dishes. Five stars for the steamed fish filet in black bean sauce and daily specials. (off menu!) Oriental House is a casual hidden gem located on busy La Cienega featuring freshly made tasty takeout, delivery and dine-in options. This tiny restaurant is owned and operated by an amazing family who care about their community and neighbors very much and demonstrate it on the daily. There's a big American flag flying in the sky just behind this restaurant which can help you locate this place.:) Street parking spots are hard to come by here. Uber and waymo to the rescue?! I like everything I've had here, but my favorite dish is the combination wonton soup. Literally one of the best I've had and I LOVE wonton soup! The broth has a slick sheen from bones in a kettle cooking and a perfect umami flavor which probably comes from my all-time favorite seasoning. You, me, Uncle Roger know what I'm talking about! Delicious! The soup is filled generously with a substantial amount of premium proteins, shrimp, chicken, pork and beef, all cooked and seasoned perfectly and handmade meat-filled dumplings with yummy vegetables. Traditional ancient recipes which have been coveted and passed down for generations are truly special. New recipes which have been lovingly influenced by other cultures can be pretty special too. Over the years, I have noticed something very special going on here. There's a small Chinese restaurant next to a big hospital in a working class neighborhood whose menu has been lovingly influenced by the black and brown community near you too. Hardworking people come here for great food, big portions and an incredible bargain. Some of the special dishes here include spicy jalapeno covered seafood and soul food-influenced pork chops, as well as made-to-order dishes according to what your mom needs on the day you arrive here. Many towns across this country are lucky enough to have a place like this. Where a talented chef runs a family restaurant which generously serves their community by catering their menu in honor of their neighbors cultures and cuisines. It's beautiful here because of you. Years ago, I came here during the lunar new year and ordered a special dinner to celebrate the new year with family and friends. I said hello and happy new year in Mandarin. I left with a warm smile and an unexpected free dessert in my bag! How to say "hello" in Mandarin. See your knee? The bone between your thigh and calf? Second half, "How". How much? How far? How do you do it so good?! I mean dance! "Knee how"! = "Hello"! I came here most recently on New Year's Day. I had told my family member this place would be open and we'd score the best parking spot for the first time. And I was right! (just keep swimming, just keep swimming!) We were greeted with a huge happy new year greeting. We ordered some New Year specials. We watched as the sweet owners gave comforting food and advice to the locals who knew them well. Newcomers with family members in the hospital next door got extra big takeout containers. I took a chance and asked if I could talk to the owners and give them a compliment personally. I told them about how I had overheard them asking about the health of their patrons' parents on multiple occasions and how kind it was to make dietary accommodations based on health needs, and that I thought they were amazing for it. I got a big smile! (I owe another American flag gift!) I highly recommend this tiny family neighborhood restaurant to you. I ordered the following: - 1 house special chow mein (small) = $7.99 SUBTOTAL = $7.99 TAX (9.75%) = $0.78 TOTAL = $8.77 Picked up my order during lunch time on Wednesday, 12/31/25. Okay so let me start with saying this place has zero parking but if you can find a space then good for you. Upon walking in it's definitely small and not really aesthetically appealing and kinda hot but the customer service was good. We were greeted and the cook even brought out our food. Now we got the jalapeno chicken wings, the seasoning and batter was sooo good but it was ruined by the fact that they got big dollar store chicken wings... one of them was like a drum/ wing combo which I refused to eat. Chinese person here. I've never actually signed in or been inside, but I work at the hospital next to it and we very often pick up lots of food from here. The food is consistently delicious, a bit on the salty side, but it's the norm for Chinese takeout it seems. It's far from authentic, but Chinese takeout is a cuisine on its own. Get the fried tofu! I tried this once when a coworker brought the fried chicken to a holiday potluck and had to come in explore more of the menu since. The pork chops were fried so well that my partner and I ate the whole thing. String beans were cooked well with the right amount of crunch yet softness in the inside. The chicken was the other thing that wasn't marinated long enough in my opinion. Quick and easy call and pick up right after work. 3.5% surcharge for credit card. Kept raving about how amazing their fried chicken and let me tell you it definitely did NOT disappoint!!! The chicken was super crunchy! Perfectly seasoned! Fried rice cooked just right!! You can also ask for no jalapeño if you don't like spicy food. For the amount they charge, you definitely get more for your buck. Man oh man was it good! Such a hole in the wall spot! We definitely appreciated the cooked to order style Made fresh, every order is customizable to your food preference. We tried 2 different small fried rice and a full order of Orange Chicken. The house fried rice was decent, being our first time here we'll have to add what we like in there next time. The chili pork with shrimp had a sweetness from five spice but it was definitely different but still great with chili oil and soy sauce it hit. The Orange Chicken fried crispy with a thick glaze that wasn't overly sweet, everything was well coated. Overall we will come back and explore the menu their noodles looked delicious. read more

I ordered 4 entrees and 2 drinks, our bill came out to $64 may not be to bad if the food was good but the food was not good at all. The chicken tasted old in every dish. The chow mien was mushy. If I could give this place a minus 5 I would! what kind of a restaurant in Los Angeles is allowed to have no restrooms in a sitdown restaurant? I went in this place, having read reviews and looking very forward to eating there. The only problem? Had to use the restroom very very badly. First The the first indication I had that I was in trouble was when the woman that I spoke to, an older woman, asked either her daughter or granddaughter to come out and speak to me. This woman did not understand English apparently. The daughter or granddaughter; looked quite a bit younger, and I was hopeful she understood English. She did. She also told me no restroom. I said, there's a door locked right there. Would you please unlock it I'd like to eat here, but I must use the restroom. First, I have to go pee really bad! She insisted the door was not a door to a restroom even though you could tell it was. I told her I was looking forward to eating there but I first needed to use the restroom. She again told me there wasn't a restroom available, so I turned away from her and we walked out. I would like to know, isn't there a law in Los Angeles that if you have a sit down establishment, you are required to have a restroom for patrons? If not, then patrons be warned. read more

The parking lot is a crapshoot because of the homophobic chicken spot that's in the same plaza, but there is some street parking. The quality of the food here is very consistent. And they have well priced combos. The portions are very generous and the service is quick for take out and delivery, which they do through delivery partners. It's definitely a hole in the wall and I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised. You never know... My usual favorite local Chinese restaurants are closed so I tried delivery from here. The sweet and sour chicken was the most disappointing. The pieces of chicken were overcooked so much that the chicken was hard and inedible. The house special chow mein tasted different than I'm used to. The egg roll wasn't good. The broccoli beef was okay. The won ton soup was probably the best thing I ordered. This place is ran by 2 people,husband and wife. The husband cooks. The wife gets the order and does the rest. There's no other wait staff here. As you walk in, order and wait. Or preorder and pick up. A very small place (5 tables)with an A rate. Well sometimes the tables are sticky and oily because every single food here is greasy, extra oily. It's extremely busy too.It's no doubt that the food is an artery-clogger and I actually feel bad every after meal. But it's an irony that most people who gets food here works in the hospital. It is located across the street of Kaiser-WLA. I don't have to explain the statistics. But it's now a part of everyday life for most. Once a month indulgence is ok. I had to do a review of this place because I've been here many times now and the lady who owns the restaurant has been acting shady lately. I've probably been here about 10 times total. I always order the same thing the spicy wings with garlic and jalapeño. The weird thing is that every single time after the first time I came the price has been different which I initially didn't think anything of the first couple times until it kept happening to the point where she was charging me nearly 3 dollars more than the listed price. It was awkward but it happened again today and I brought it up. She just made some random excuse up and I paid. The wings are good and that's the reason I keep coming back but the owners behavior is shady and makes for a bad customer service experience. I think she feels she can guilt people into just paying but that is not the right way to run a business. read more
