    Inside vibe

I'm convinced Hui Tou Xiang is one of Hollywood's best-kept secrets for Chinese food. I've been here five times now, and they consistently deliver - every single visit has been excellent. Our go-to dishes are the cucumber salad (refreshing and perfectly crunchy), green scallion pancakes (especially good with the chili sauce), pork shumai (better than Din Tai Fung imo), and the spicy pork wontons. On our most recent visit, we tried the sesame noodles, and I've been daydreaming about them ever since. The staff is always friendly and attentive, the vibes inside are great, and there's a solid drink selection with cocktails, draft beer, and bottled options. And the price point? Outrageously reasonable, especially in this economy. Consistently delicious food, great service, and incredible value. Highly recommend!

Great selection of Asian food! The food came out pretty good. The sauce is amazing and the customer service is great! There's a lot of seating inside!

I'm half Chinese, and I've been craving some good Chinese soul food. Read about this place from Eater LA and it did not disappoint! They have a flagship restaurant in SGV which always bodes well, but this one was so convenient to Hollywood. Every dish was so rich in flavor with very large portions. We got several dishes to share at the table and we definitely had left overs. My favorite was the Hong Kong pork wontons in a clear broth with seaweed and cilantro - amazing flavor in the broth and perfectly thin wonton skin. Loved the vibe inside, parking was a bit tight on the street but we just found somewhere down the block. Would recommend and will be returning!

$30 corkage Came in on Christmas Day for dinner and drinks and was honestly excited they were even open, this spot has been on my list forever. We arrived around 6pm and only waited about 10 minutes, which was a nice surprise. Because it was Christmas, they were out of a few things I really wanted (the matcha cocktail and mushroom skewers, specifically). Annoying, sure, but understandable, it's Christmas. We ordered apps and cocktails, which came out fast and hot. Unfortunately, the mains took over an hour. I get that they were probably understaffed, but it would've gone a long way if they'd acknowledged it with something small like comping a cocktail or knocking a bit off the bill. No attempt there, which was frustrating. Food-wise, it was pretty underwhelming. We had 4 cocktails and the dry sake flight, drinks were all solid. The cucumbers were fine. Scallion pancakes were way too greasy. Stewed beef noodle soup was forgettable. The tomato egg noodles were the biggest letdown as this dish is a core childhood comfort food for me, and this version missed the mark completely. Just...no. Overall, drinks were good, food was meh at best, and the long wait with zero recovery didn't help. That said, it was Christmas, so I'm giving them some grace and would be open to trying again on a normal day.

Promptly seated within 5 minutes for a party of two on a Sunday evening at 6:30pm. Tables were clean, close together, and the ambience was quite lively. My table ordered the beef hui tou, shrimp shumai, zha jiang noodles, and the scallion pancakes, and a beer for around $65. Service was prompt, as we got all of our items within 10 minutes. Despite the decent service and reasonable prices, I wasn't particularly impressed by the food. While the food was filling and got the job done, I had hoped for more flavor with each bite! Most of the items we had could be described as perfectly "mid", as they were not bad -- but also nothing really worth revisiting. The one highlight of my visit were the scallion pancakes for $6, as they were quite light, slightly greasy, and the perfect mix of doughy and crispy. Both bathrooms were rather messy and many things were left unrestocked such as toilet seat covers, toilet paper, paper towels, and hand sanitizer, which was especially disappointing during peak dinner hours! I think that this restaurant fills its objective of keeping diners full at a reasonable price and decent speed, but I don't think that there is much to draw in repeat customers with the quality of food.

Eater 38 rated this spot as one of the top Chinese places in LA, and we were staying nearby, so stopped in for lunch. Service was SO friendly and welcoming. Owner was there, too. Appeared to be a lot of locals. We tried the cucumber salad (cold and crunchy), the Signature Hui Toi rectangular dumplings, half pork, half beef, and then the Spicy Pork Wonton, which were both really good. Might have to try the pork & leek pancakes, and some noodles next time. We'll be back!

Cute little spot with tasty dumplings and a full bar in Hollywood. My partner and I shared the egg and tomato noodles, cucumber salad, spicy pork dumplings, pork shu mai. It was more than enough food for us and we ended up taking a lot of leftovers home. Everything was seasoned to perfection. We weren't drinking that night but I saw they had some interesting cocktails. Loved the cute vibe inside too. On a Monday night when we walked in, we were able to get a seat at the bar immediately.

Great food, friendly staff, and quick service! I love the vibe of this shop and was so glad to find out that even though all the tables were taken we could order and eat at the bar. The he food was very fresh and tasted delicious! We will definitely be coming back for more soup dumplings and the beef soup!

Stopped here after enjoying a Chinese animated film at the Chinese Theater and had a blast enjoying a family style meal with a group of 4! It may not look like much on the outside, but this restaurant is a hidden gem with only a few tables and a bar that was full, but not overcrowded, the entire time we were there. The inside is gorgeous, with a disco ball style ceiling that bounces the various light sources in the space everywhere. In the back they have a cute neon sign that says "Always Thinking Bao You," and a juke box, which unfortunately no longer works. Our server was very accommodating to our table's orders that came in waves as the night developed and our hunger was satiated. My recommendation for a group is starting with the *scallion pancakes and pan fried potstickers with chicken and cabbage. Then move onto a classic order of *xiao long bao soup dumplings, *shrimp shumai, and spicy pork wontons. We finished off with an order of the liang ban noodles, but I think an order of vegetables would have rounded out the meal better to break up the copious amount of dough. Everything we ate was absolutely outstanding and well priced for the quality. I marked my personal favorites with *asterisks if you're looking to go as a smaller party of 2. The house-made chili sauce they added to their noodles and wontons wasn't too spicy. If you're looking for intense heat, you won't find it here. Rather you'll experience well balanced, savory bites of heaven!

Spicy pork wontons: 4/5 good flavor seasoned well Xiao long Bao: 3.5/5 a little too doughy and not enough broth Chili sauce: 3/5 I bought their signature chili sauce and wasn't the biggest fan of the flavor Lychee lemonade: 5/5 perfect balance of sweetness

It's rare to find a place that sells egg and chive pockets or chinese empanadas so I was thrilled to find Hui Tou Xiang. They're a dumpling shop through and through: boiled, pan-fried, steamed. The flavor was there, I just wish they were larger. I actually ordered takeout from their alhambra location but would love to check out the vibes of the hollywood bar spot.

Rolled in on a Monday night around 6pm with a four top. Got seated immediately and within 10 minutes there was a wait. The service was nothing to write home about but we got food. We asked questions about the menu and our server was pretty short and not all that helpful so we punted. We ordered a mix of items and hoped for the best. Scallion pancakes were crunchy and a little greasy and tasty. The chicken and pork pot stickers were delicious. They felt homemade and were cooked to perfection. The ground pork noodles were not good although the server Implied they were a house favorite. The Liang Ban noodles were served cold and were a spicy, 4-star dish. A glass of Sauvignon Blanc was $12 and our guests had two. The ambience is ok, it's cramped and loud when busy. I felt not compulsion to photograph the food other than a couple of shots of noodles so that probably tells you all you need to know. It served a purpose but I don't know that I would return for a repeat of anything we had.

    Do they have parking onsite?

Nearby public parking for $25 for a few hours.

    Hand pulled noodles?

I don't believe so but the noodles are still very good. their specialty is the dumplings but their beef noodle soup is 10/10

    Do they have a drive-thru?

    No, but they do takeout.

    Does this restaurant serve alcohol?

    Yes. Beer, wine, and sake.

Are dogs allowed in a carrier/backpack?

Please do not bring a dog to an indoor restaurant.

    Gluten free options?

As far as I can tell, very few, as there are a lot of noodle dishes and they do not appear to be rice noodles.

Dashi was VERY good. Generous amount of grated daikon. Assort. Tempura: Saw this being served while waiting. Looked really good and it WAS! Large shiitake mushroom. Fan cut Japanese eggplant, kabocha pumpkin, shrimp tempura & two (2) shiso leaves. All VERY crisp not oily. Warm dashi side had deep umami rich flavor. Probably made the legit kombu & bonita flake method. #1 ordered the Miso carbonara: garlicky carbonara served with their signature house-rolled out udon. Wonderful dish. Portion sizes were adequate. #2 ordered the Uni carbonara: same garlicky carbonara with uni bits strewn about. Estimating one whole uni broken. This actually works for ease of eating. Plus, uni ranges in the $18/oz on the low end to $60 or more/oz on the higher end. Yes we love & appreciate their gonads. Udon noodles were chewy, bouncy & worth the wait. The restaurant is just down the street from the closest metro station. We were greeted immediately and told to wait while they set up the table. The ceilings are pretty high and there is a decent amount of seating. Half of the tables were probably taken around this time and there were a few TVs on playing a live FIFA World Cup game which people were watching. I decided to order the 3 of us: 1. Kalguksu, 17, bibim nengmyun, and 25. Beef bulgogi. Everything was out pretty quickly and everything was delicious. The beef bulgogi was good but nothing too special. Sweet and savory with plenty of onions and served on a hot plate. My dad has been to Korea more than a dozen times and says that this bulgogi isn't close to as good as he's had, but that the noodles were very good. He says this bulgogi could be more Smokey, with a grilled flavor. I've probably had better bulgogi around as well so probably wouldn't come just for it, but it was nice to have a dish with rice in addition to the 2 noodle dishes. The kalguksu was my favorite. Very savory and the broth was so good. The other 2 dishes came with little bowls of extra broth as well. Inside the kalguksu was 3 dumplings (yum), some well seasoned ground meat (yum), and very good al dente noodles (yum). The spicy cold noodles were also good. I typically prefer the cold noodles that come in the slushy broth but my boyfriend prefers this spicy one! It had fresh veggies, a slice of Korean pear, an egg, and a lot of delicious sauce that ended up not being too spicy. The red kimchi was more spicy than the noodles! Overall good food and good service, fast and efficient, no nonsense. Would come again for the noodle dishes which were around $18.

We shared the dan dan noodles, the 3 cup Jidori chicken, pan-fried pork buns, and cucumber salad. I also got the soy milk, which I believe is made in-house. The food came pretty quickly and arrived before our drinks, in fact. The cucumber salad was fresh, and the cucumbers had a nice crunch. I liked the flavor of the chicken, but I thought it a bit on the dry side. The dan dan noodles and pork buns were excellent, however. The noodles were flavorful and had an enjoyable chew. The pork buns were tasty as well and filled with juicy meat. I also really liked the soy milk. It wasn't too sweet, and it had a nice thickness. The staff was friendly. The restaurant is a casual spot with a self-serve water station.
