Been meaning to try this as a nicer alt to Panda Express. The current portion sizes are too small for the price. I ordered 2 dishes and 1 main and the total was around 20 dollars for essentially fast food. The dishes they're served in are very shallow. The garlic noodles and orange peel chicken were good. I do like pandas orange chicken better. My main issue was the peppers and pork. This dish was not authentic to the Hunan region at all, and tasted really bitter and astringent. The pork was simultaneously fatty and dry, and the peppers were greasy and limp. The workers were very nice but it was pretty disappointing. read more

Many of the dishes feel similar-ish to the 'you-know-what' brand, but I'd say they try to make bit of twist and the dishes turn out not bad! Minor things, but the food containers and to-go bag also come in decent quality and design! Dining-in is convenient as well despite the limited space. If you don't mind eat while standing, more spots are available for sure. Bonus points, given the meals are ready-to-serve, you get to eat instantly upon ordering. We tried Pepper Kurobuta Pork and their #1 Orange Peel Chicken. The prior was tad too salty for my liking despite the meat texture was good. I certainly preferred the latter as it ticked all the boxes from tenderness, flavor, and portion. For a long time, authentic and fast are oxymorons when referring to Chinese food. Tigawok dares to be a trailblazer to change that! I think they deserve the five star just for that courage and vision. But their foods are actually really good! I went in for lunch and I went back to get dinner again on the same day. The chicken with basil leaves his absolutely my favorite! I had that at a high-end Taiwanese restaurant in Taipei once and I would say Tigawok is at par with the best. The braised pork was very tasty and worth the calories. The sweet tomato fried eggs is absolutely their best! I brought it home and my kids loved it. For $2.99 you could get a nice tea. I love their honey infused black tea! That by itself is a great drink to get here. I bet you won't find a decent drink cheaper than this in the entire Sawtelle area. Prices are super reasonable for the quality of food. This is the kind of place that would be great for a group or a family as you could mix and match different items and share them. The staff was super friendly and efficient. For a new customers, they would explain to you how things work and how to order. Definitely a great place to get Chinese food! Yeah, I'm from out of town so -- wow! What a cool little place! Firstly, upon entering Tigawok, you can tell it has a modern stylish theme and color scheme! The mirrored walls and ceiling give the space a bigger feel than what it actually is. There are several booth seats and single window seats. My brother says this place is like a fancier Panda Express. Firstly, at the counter there is laid out displays of many different dish options. You choose your base first (white rice or noodles) and then can select whatever Mini bowl types of stir fry you want. And guess what? The machine rotating behind the counter is the automatic wok that cooks it! And it did a reasonably good job. None of the items I ordered were burnt and was flavored well. There's a variety of flavors including curry, mapo tofu, I ordered the spicy basil chicken (one of my favorites), pepper kurobuta pork (also very good), and the garlic eggplant and green beans (gotta have my greens). For "mini bowls" I surprisingly made these 'dishes' last me several meals! That helped a lot since I didn't have time to meal prep for the week. The food is contained in these cute little reusable "Tupperware". I washed them and plan to use them as leftover takeout containers for friends when I host dinners. I didn't get to try any of the drinks but was pleased to see some unique flavors (beyond your usual fountain drinks) such as honey-scented black tea and unsweetened oolong. I'd try it next time! The photos I saw on IG looked great, but most of the dishes were really greasy and not as flavorful as expected. The mapo tofu was especially greasy, I wouldn't order that dish again. The best dish was the beef & minced pork rice. It was seasoned well, not so greasy, and paired well with the rice and side radish to cut through the richness of the beef. It's impossible to come to Tigawok and not compare it to the fast food restaurant Panda Express. It's clear that they're trying to offer a fresher, more 'hip' alternative. So, with that said, I came in wanted to see how it stacked up against it. And I gotta say, it did very well. The restaurant itself is small. It's narrow with a very small footprint on Sawtelle. You can tell they're trying to cater to the business people who work within walking distance. It's made more for to go than dine in, even though there are some small tables throughout ready for people wanting to dine in. The interior is warm and inviting. Minimal in design consisting of cool whites & light turquoise to match the company's logo/design scheme. The orange chicken was good. Less sweet that I'm used to which I enjoyed, but I wish the breading was a bit more crispy. It's a more gummy piece of orange chicken than a crunchy fried one I'm used to. The fried rice was absolutely fantastic. Some of, if not the most, flavorful fried rice I've ever had at a fast food/fast casual Chinese restaurant. I could go back and just eat bowls of that and be satisfied. However, here comes my biggest complaint (though it's minor in the grand scheme of things). Because this is a small place that relies on robotic/automated wok machines in the back, it can't cook a lot at the same time. Because of that, they're not constantly cranking out menu items. When I got there they were in the middle of making a new batch of fried rice. That meant I had to wait close to 10 minutes for it to be ready. Was it worth the wait? Yeah. Sure. However, had they had more machines or people hand cooking it, I feel like they would be able to ensure that they would always have all menu items ready to go. I think next time I will plan on ordering ahead for pickup. That way should something be out, there will be enough time for it to be cooked properly. If they're hoping to get business people to come by to quickly grab a lunch, I think they need to figure out a more streamlined process to ensure they're never out of anything. read more

The staff was friendly in walking us through how it worked and the bowls and let us sample which was great. The braised pork belly was fantastic, and so was the orange chicken. Hong kong fried rice was great too! Generous portions as I mentioned before. I got two items that were an additional cost and still, a lunch with a drink in LA for about $15 bucks is hard to comeby now. Pretty good and hoesntly really cheap Chinese food! They have mini bowls and each item is about $5, and the food is sooooo filling. For what is pictured we paid about $35-40 dollars and had plenty left over for 2 people. The chow mein is ELITE as well as their orange chicken. Kung pao chicken was good, but the chicken was a bit dry. Green beans with eggplant was pretty good. The chow mein was nothing spectacular, but better than Panda Express's. I wish they'd bring this to the Bay!! Super interesting concept where low price point meets Panda Express-variety. Definitely sample some of the dishes before getting them--some of them were really tasty that I didn't expect I'd like. 7 dishes was plenty for 2 people--we had the tiga cola chicken, string beans with eggplant, tomato & eggs, crispy chili pork, cabbage (not pictured, ordered later), tiga wagyu curry, and half chow mein/rice. Sadly they ran out of the wagyu & kurobuta rice bowl, or else I'd have chosen that as the base. I was a bit surprised that all the food was served slightly warm, but that's a small nit. My favorites were the crispy chili pork (great mala flavor, and a good amount of pork), tomato & eggs (sweet and perfect over the bed of white rice), and the tiga cola chicken (great portion and super tender, but a tad bit too sweet). I thought string beans with eggplant had too much oil and the curry was a bit bland and the meat was tough. He's probably the most picky of all of my family when it comes to Chinese food. Not easy to win him over! We always get the Orange Peel Chicken and Tiga Cola Chicken. You can't go wrong with either of these dishes! Pro Tip: When coming in with more than one person, one person waits in line and another person stalks out the tables to grab a table when someone is leaving. It can be a game of musical chairs trying to get a seat at Tigawok especially during the busy lunchtime rush. Customer Service is excellent here! You can try any dish you'd like, but you don't want to try too many dishes if there's a line forming behind you. I asked for more of the Wagyu Beef Hot Sauce and was informed that they make a limited batch everyday and there would be no more until the evening time. My go tos are always the orange chicken, chowmein, and cola chicken. I've tried maybe about 2/3s of the menu. There are some things I wouldn't order again, but that's just due to my own taste preferences and not anything they did wrong. The orange chicken is always so crunchy and moist. Chinese fast food in fun new packaging. Grab a tray, pick your base (rice, Wagyu rice, or chow mein), then go down the line & choose mini dishes. It's like getting a plate at Panda but every item comes in a separate container. The dishes are umami charged but float in gratuitous pools of chili oil. The Mapo Tofu is glaringly guilty, swimming in oil with no trace of the usual thick brown sauce. The Wagyu rice, topped with little chunks Wagyu stew, was tasty and could almost be a meal. Then you could be stuffed adding 1 or 2 mini dishes. To-go lids pop right over the containers if you can't finish. It's filling for under $15, but the tricks used to turn out food fast and mouthwatering come at a different kinda price. You must ask yourself if you've lived clean enough to have this cheat day. Heard great things about this place on Instagram so I decided to swing by on my way to an event I was going to. This place is fantastic. Food. I got 6 items. The chow mein, shredded potato, kurobuta pork, orange peel chicken, tomato and egg, and brussels sprouts. I forgot to take a picture of the brussels sprouts which came a little later because I was too busy shoveling food in my mouth. Everything was freshly made, and you can tell the ingredients are high quality. I personally loved the chow mein which was bouncy and chewy and the shredded potato which has a nice firm texture. The fact that it's shredded helps you taste more of the potato actually. They were standouts to me. The free condiment chili sauce was great too and I believe it has some kind of Wagyu beef ground into it. Very flavorful. It was like a thick, full-bodied sauce. 5/5 for food. Second of all is the price. The dishes were ranging between 2-6 dollars. Some of these are authentic dishes that you can get at a small plate price. If you were to go to a random Chinese restaurant, you'd easily have to pay $15+ per dish and you may not want a family sized plate of just one item. Everything I got at Tigawok could easily feed 2 people, and it all came to be under about $30 with a drink. It's affordable and a great way to sample all the different flavors. 5/5 for price. Service was great. Everyone was very pleasant to talk to. They seemed like they were very happy to be there and work there. I felt welcomed. Kenny who works there gave me great recommendations on dishes to try, and I feel it's extremely well-run and carefully operated. 5/5 service. Ambiance to me is very clean. The turquoise/teal accent to the establishment gives it a modern a bit more sophisticated vibe. They have little wheat decorations around the seating area that indicate nature/natural - so if you told me they served fresh fruit smoothies there I would believe it. It has a very healthy, very high quality tone to it. The one thing I do wish it had was more seating area. I feel like during busy hours this place would be packed, and my friends/colleagues and I would have to either plan our visit when it's not so busy or get our food to go. It's actually a 2 now but used to be a 5. Tigawok USED to be one of the best value restaurants on sawtelle. This is one of the fastest fall from grace I've ever seen. During opening the food was fresh, with low prices (1.99-5.99) and had excellent business. What happened?? Prices started to creep up at an insane rate. Now dishes are 3.99-8.99, and the quality is worse. I'm not sure what's going on, was this business operating at a crazy loss in the beginning and ran out of funds, cuz the speed of this decline just isn't normal.
