An old-Time Chinese restaurant. Ate at the bar, surrounded by locals and bartender, Jojo, who is quite a character. The food Pros, large portions, fried rice, warm, and a generous amount of pork. Cons, the beef with mushrooms was a horror show. The sauce had no taste, the mushrooms were generous, and the beef was tough and also tasteless. The chicken fingers were mostly breading and little chicken. The egg roll was burnt and filling was again beyond dry. Felt like Gordon Ramsey in NK. New Year's Day I got off work and decided to uber to Oriental Pearl. I called at 9pm and asked what time the kitchen closed , was told midnight . In my mind that was perfect I'll grab a few drinks eat enjoy new years - at really the only place open on a holiday . Arrived about 9:15-9:20. Ordered my normal chicken dish . Few moments later food came out but not long after my bill was in front of me and bar tender had turned off t.v's and was suited up to head home. So I asked what time they close ? He says 10pm. I said really? I called and was told midnight for kitchen and your sign says open till 1 am 7 days a week. Bar tender ask when I called I said 45 mins ago. He goes on to tell me I'm his first customer in 2 hrs , I explain again how I called and wouldn't have spend 50$ on a uber if they had mentioned that via our phone call. I paid and waited outside at 10pm Jan 1st (brrrrr cold ) for a new uber home - 15 mins felt like 2 hrs . Was totally unexpected and thrown off guard . Again I would have never wasted my money if they had just told me they were extremely slow and closing early. Regardless I paid the bill and left but honestly think they should have compensated me or even a discount but not even an apology.I was starting to bring family and friends here now just a really sour taste in my mouth. Four years later and now that I'm living in Westport again, I figured I'd give my childhood favorite Chinese restaurant another look. While the food still isn't exactly like it was in its heyday, the boneless spareribs and beef teriyaki are still fantastic, and their Crab Rangoons no joke are the ABSOLUTELY BEST. Seriously, there's been times I've ordered just these things to bring to a party. What really sets this place apart is the niche that it fits in its community. The no-frills, small town club/drinking hole vibe makes this a mainstay that's been giving Westporters a place to unwind no matter what might be going on. No matter how crazy things get, there's always a place you can go to get a great Mai Tai and some good old-fashioned American-Chinese fare. Food was terrible. Chow mein does not have bean sprouts but brown sauce over fried chips and terrible. Egg roll was terrible. Bathroom was not clean. The positive side is they do have keno, scratch tickets and other gambling games to play. They also have band playing today (friday) with no cover charges. Nice bar, plenty of seating inside. I'm torn between 3 & 4 but rounding up for good measure. I've come years ago, but my Chinese food fan husband hasn't had an opportunity to try it yet. Every time we've driven by the parking lot is packed. We decided to eat in on our Takeout Thursday. What an upgrade having windows in here now. (I know, I know, they've had windows for a few years now... But last time I ate they did not and it makes a difference!) the owner George quickly seated us in the dining room. Dining room is a throwback but in a good way. They had local news on and there were several patrons also dining which is always a great sign. Our waitress came over and asked if wanted tea. We declined. We put in our drink orders, a little disappointed beer is only sold bottled, but good nonetheless. Also water glasses were really short! Also a little funny was they offer bread for the table... I've never been offered bread at a Chinese restaurant!! We each ordered a dinner combo and the portions were enormous. I ate maybe a sixth of the food on my plate. Chow mein was nice and crispy. I wasn't a huge fan of the gravy flavor, prefer some others in Fall River, but just a personal preference. I loved the fried rice that was delicious! Also the chicken fingers were perfectly cooked and as expected. For 2 beers and 2 dinner combos it was $35. Not too shabby for a dining out experience. The bar was hopping when we left. I understand why this place is so popular, but definitely has been more Americanized than other Chinese restaurants (like bread before dinner?). I've been coming here for many years now, basically whenever I find myself less than an hour away... like tonight. No better traditional American Chinese food out there... along with dining room, long bar section and stage for live music or DJ. Bar service is always impeccable and fast. The combo plates are big... old school beef teriyaki , boneless ribs, chicken wings and an egg roll is "A6." That with a chicken fried rice makes for ample dinner for two. I go with chicken fried rice almost every Chinese food place because they usually make it fresh as opposed to the huge volume of pork fried rice that is made in big batches sometimes hours ahead of time. Ask for hot mustard and mix it into the duck sauce to make a nice spicy dipping sauce. read more

The place had a lot of patrons at the bar and they had a cheesy band as well. The place closed at 12pm. I must admit I never seen an oriental restaurant with a restaurant on one side and a club on the other. We ordered sweet and sour chicken and shrimp fried rice. The sweet and sour nuggets were surrounded with lots of tasteless batter. They were so big the box they put it in would not close. The shrimp fried rice was not edible. Like many have said in their reviews, the restaurant portion is very dated which is easily overlooked, but the big let down was really the food. Portions are huge, rice was cooked perfectly (actually really loved the rice) but other than that - we couldn't finish the spring rolls they were so awful, my husband left 90% of the watered down sweet & sour sauce on the plate, and my Kung pao meal went straight into the trash when we got home. He says the food is okay to him, not bad not great, somewhere in between. It's a convenient place for him. Westport is small, with not many options! I ordered the a tofu dish and jasmine rice. I expected just some tofu, but was thrilled when they brought out a huge plate of tofu and veggies, in this delicious garlic sauce! I usually am not a huge fan of Chinese food, but this was pretty delicious! I really loved it, and the tofu was cooked perfectly. If you're vegan or vegetarian, I'd highly recommend trying the Yu hsiang tofu! The place itself is just okay. Basic decor. It appears clean, but not sparking. Came here for dinner with my family. The food was okay, but the service was the worst I have ever had in my life. We sat for thirty minutes without being greeted, and my father had to go up to the manager to get a server for our table. The waitress then appeared, didn't even introduce herself, and said "what do you want for drinks" in the most rude tone possible. It then took about 20 minutes to get our drinks, and then she took the food order, again, being completely rude and impersonal. The food came out pretty quick, but after she dropped the food off, she didn't ask if we needed anything else, and disappeared for ANOTHER 30 minutes. My father, again, had to ask the manager for the waitress, and she came over with a half-assed, insincere apology and asked what we wanted again. We got another round of drinks, got our bill, and got up to leave. Now, the bill was around $300. I'm a server myself and never tip a server less than 20% unless the service was extraordinarily bad, and since it was, we left a 15% tip ($45). Most of my family left while my girlfriend and I went over to the dance floor, and in the meantime my grandfather waited for my grandmother outside of the bathroom. I saw the waitress go up to my grandfather, yell at him, saw him take his wallet out and hand her cash, and she stormed off. I asked him what happened and he told me that she complained that her tip wasn't enough and she went off on him, so he felt bad and gave her an extra $40 (my father paid the bill so he had no clue what was going on, and I saw what my father gave for a tip). My grandparents left and I was beyond furious, so I asked the manager to get the waitress and I talked to her myself, telling her that what she did was completely unacceptable and told her that her tip reflected her service and that she had no right to harass my grandfather that way. Her excuse was that she "was busy" (aka two other tables), and apologized. I get that servers have bad days and have to deal with shitty customers once in a while, but like I said, I'm a server myself and no matter what I have going on I am NEVER straight up rude to my customers, try to give the best service possible to get a tip that I deserve, and if I am busy and am not giving the best service then I will at the very least tell my table that I am busy and hope they understand. That being said, I did briefly interact with the other servers and they seemed great, but this particular one completely ruined the experience for us.
