I'm having a hard time believing these people eat at the same place I have been coming back to for years (literally, i was born and raised in Westport, moved to a town near by and still order take out whenever I visit home). The place isn't flashy... It's got servers who aren't always the best, a staff that are often difficult to understand and an interior that hasn't been updated in years. Aside from the interior / service the food is delicious (fried rice, chow mein sandwich, wonton soup, lo mein are my favorites). Meals are fairly inexpensive. I've even gone there just for drinks and appetizers. I love that it's almost always empty. Portions are huge, even shareable! The mixed drinks are strong and karaoke night is always fun! read more

Came here for dinner with my family. The food was okay, but the service was the worst I have ever had in my life. We sat for thirty minutes without being greeted, and my father had to go up to the manager to get a server for our table. The waitress then appeared, didn't even introduce herself, and said "what do you want for drinks" in the most rude tone possible. It then took about 20 minutes to get our drinks, and then she took the food order, again, being completely rude and impersonal. The food came out pretty quick, but after she dropped the food off, she didn't ask if we needed anything else, and disappeared for ANOTHER 30 minutes. My father, again, had to ask the manager for the waitress, and she came over with a half-assed, insincere apology and asked what we wanted again. We got another round of drinks, got our bill, and got up to leave. Now, the bill was around $300. I'm a server myself and never tip a server less than 20% unless the service was extraordinarily bad, and since it was, we left a 15% tip ($45). Most of my family left while my girlfriend and I went over to the dance floor, and in the meantime my grandfather waited for my grandmother outside of the bathroom. I saw the waitress go up to my grandfather, yell at him, saw him take his wallet out and hand her cash, and she stormed off. I asked him what happened and he told me that she complained that her tip wasn't enough and she went off on him, so he felt bad and gave her an extra $40 (my father paid the bill so he had no clue what was going on, and I saw what my father gave for a tip). My grandparents left and I was beyond furious, so I asked the manager to get the waitress and I talked to her myself, telling her that what she did was completely unacceptable and told her that her tip reflected her service and that she had no right to harass my grandfather that way. Her excuse was that she "was busy" (aka two other tables), and apologized. I get that servers have bad days and have to deal with shitty customers once in a while, but like I said, I'm a server myself and no matter what I have going on I am NEVER straight up rude to my customers, try to give the best service possible to get a tip that I deserve, and if I am busy and am not giving the best service then I will at the very least tell my table that I am busy and hope they understand. That being said, I did briefly interact with the other servers and they seemed great, but this particular one completely ruined the experience for us. Went there yesterday with my boyfriend who has a shrimp allergy (gets hospitalized if the food even touches). We sat down and ordered the pupu platter to share and made our waitress very aware of his allergy, telling her multiple times no shrimp and substituting it out for something else. Not only were there shrimp on the whole plate but instead of making us a new platter when we reminded her of the allergy, she just took the shrimp off as well as everything she thought touched the shrimp and told me it was okay. I was so surprised. As someone who works in the food industry this is not okay at all. He didn't even eat any of the food on the platter, yet we still paid $50 for the whole mess. Vegan review: Ok let me start out by saying that this place is an average Chinese restaurant at best. They still serve that over Americanized over fried style that was popular in the 80's. That being said this place gets an extra star for two reasons. They are open late, like Taco Bell late, he said they will serve until pass midnight at the bar! Also they serve a vegan version of Ma-Po Tofu, the only place in the area. I ordered the fore mentioned Ma-Po Tofu and some scallion pancakes. The scallion pancakes were extra greasy, like not looking forward to tomorrow greasy. But the Ma-Po Tofu was good, not as spicy as I had hoped for but good none the less. I don't know that I would come here for regular dinner but after 10pm it's a good option. Also on xmas night this place is INSANE. read more

Oriental Pear is great. Went there for the first time after driving by numerous times as a child. First things first the decor is straight out of 1985. Once you get past that everything else is amazing. The food portions are huge. A single portion could EASILY feed two people. The food came out quick, was fresh, and tasted great. What really gives this place 5 stars was the service I received. The waiter Michael, I believe his name was, was amazing! Always checked if we needed water, was extremely polite, and stopped by several times to make sure everything was ok. A real awesome guy. Will definitely be going back, If I ever finish the leftovers! read more

I ordered takeout on Saturday August 8, 2018, at 8:45pm. . . I ordered spare ribs on the bone and it was delicious, however I also ordered the fried rice and it was the nastiest fried rice I've ever eaten. I mean I had my fare share of fried rice from many Chinese restaurants but Oriental Pearl fried rice is by far the worst for making fried rice. The fried rice didn't taste like it came out of a wok. It tasted like it was steamed or boiled and they just threw in some coloring to make it look like it was stir fried in a wok. I'll definitely go there again but only buying spare ribs on the bone. read more

I haven't been to the OP in a decade, but nothing has changed which made me so very happy. great menu/bar/staff. also, if you hang around past 8 p.m. on a Saturday night it turns into a senior center hot spot which makes for incredible people watching. I'm am now a big fan of wacky jacky! It also just occurred to me that they boxed up my leftovers. if my boyfriend is reading this he is allowed to eat my eggrolls and fried pork rice :). read more

First I would like to say very clean environment, which is difficult to find. Also the staff were great, very polite and made sure we were happy...now, to the bad. The food is nothing like fall river/new Bedford style chinese. The flavors are off quite a bit. I could deal with it however if it were not for the fact that you will become bloated and in pain then probably not leave the bathroom for two days. Watered down drinks!!! All of them!!! All 3 of our party had very obviously, super watered down beverages, we all even tried each other's and there is no doubt. Food had good flavor, but gave me a sick stomach afterwards. This is the second time we've had watered-down drinks. Quick service, clean except for the bathroom - hold your nose! The food has to be the worst Chinese food I ever had. The egg roll was soggy and mushy. The boneless ribs looked great and no fat but when you eat it, all you taste it fat - how is that possible??? We left most of the food back on the table. 1976 come get your Chinese restaurant back!!! Stuck in a timewarp with rundown booths and worn out floors this Chinese joint is horrible. It appears to do most of its business in the bar with large groups of people playing keno. My friend and I ordered two very different beef dishes and when they came out the sauces were almost identical overly sweet over thickened goop. The waitress was pleasant enough with the exception of calling us "hun" and "sweety" with every question. Don't go unless you are looking for keno and karaoke. read more

Thursday July 2nd, getting ready for a party, $40 of Chinese food and not a bite was worth a dime. I called at 2pm was there at 2:25pm I'm betting it sat under light ALL AFTERNOON and I got the goods. Everything was dry and overcooked, no soft meat on the wings all splintery on the bone... egg rolls were so over fried the crust fell off the roll just holding it.. the crab rangoons overcooked hard, and the Peking Raviolis were so overcooked the dough was attached to the meat all dry and rubbery. You said EVERYTHING IN THE BAG .... nope NO DIPPING SAUCE was with the order... it was a major disappointment. It was a rainy Friday evening at 10 PM and I had not yet eaten. My secret agenda was to wait for my brother to get out of work at 10, then I use my impeccable strengths of persuasion to get him to take me out for Chinese. Thankfully, he was also hungry when he got home, so we then headed out to where we know there is always a fruitful abundance of sit down Chinese restaurants: Route 6 in Westport. After skipping places like Gumbo's and Wasabi, we decided on settling with Oriental Pearl. When you walk into Oriental Pearl, you are not overwhelmed nor underwhelmed. It's pretty much a Chinese place. Oh yeah, one of the most mysterious things that I may never understand: Why was there a disco ball in the bar area? And random music? I swear I heard karaoke. But when I walked in, NO KARAOKE. What? So, anyway, the place was, like expected, dead at this hour. We ordered a pu pu platter for two with the basics of crab ragoons, fried rice, boneless spare ribs, etc.. Just like every other Chinese restaurant, It was guilt-ridden goodness. Food was excellent but the most amazing thing about this establishment is their server Cheyenne! I witnessed the fastest, most efficient server I think I have ever encountered. We never went without the whole night (there to see a band after dinner). Always smiling, always moving. I will definitely be back and will only sit in her area!! You know, it's just another Chinese restaurant but it is good and pretty clean inside. They have a nice bar and also have a dance floor and they always have karaoke or some band playing on Fridays and Saturdays. They also make the best crab ragoons around. There averaged priced on the food but there beer is cheap. Its a good place to get a couple of brews and not spend an arm and a leg. They also have strong and good scorpion bowls. I've been eating here since I was little. Every Xmas Eve its been tradition to get Chinese food here. Its been consistent through the years. I returned back home for college break, but was unimpressed. They are getting pretty cheap and negligent. I tried to get her attention so I can ask for a box but she looked at me and ignored me. been going to the pearl for many years now and I have always enjoyed the food the Chow mein is always nice and moist. There combination although are very large are quite satisfying. The lo mein is delicious and if your a fan of Crab Rangoon i highly recommend it. However if your looking for a fancy restaurant the decor is not quite up to par in 18 years the only decor change has been flat screen tv's in the bar howevetr if your there for the the food and could care less about the decor expect quick delicious food. read more

This is my fav Chinese restaurant In area. It's clean and the food is delicious. I love the homemade SUV sauce. The crab rangoons are a must order. Filled with heaps of cream cheese and crabmeat. This place is awful. They don't keep their order sheet straight. We went in with 6 or 7 people the waitress trying to get a bigger tip didn't bother to ask us if we were having separate checks and used codes on our bill so we had to spend 30 mins trying to decode the bill even to pay. The Oriental Pearl is a local gem. If you're from Westport or the surrounding area, everyone knows the Pearl as a laid back, old school place to have a drink and hang out. Come in any night of the year, they never seem to close. You can come in to eat a tasty meal, drink a strong drink, or dance to DJ Rick or some live local music. I am not a huge fan of the Pearl's food, but their golden fingers and General Tso's are usually solid choices. People go to the Pearl to watch the game, chat with locals, play a game of Keno and relax. The staff is friendly, courteous, and always very cheerful. The old school architecture and design will take you back to a time when more Chinese food restaurants aimed to deliver a theme-park like presentation, like the long gone China Royal in Fall River. I highly advise you sit in the bar area rather than the booths if you don't have a minor with you, it's a lot more fun on the left of the main door than the right. read more

As someone else noted in their review, "the pearl" is the epitome of nightlife in Westport. Aren't we sad? I rarely come here on any other night than karaoke, and I think I have only eaten here once. I don't do Chinese. I had a bad experience with a "vegetarian" eggroll once in Quincy that had shrimp in it. So unless the dish is clearly vegetarian I won't eat it. Anyways...I will review on what I know with is Karaoke nights and the bar area in general. The bartender is always really very nice, but very difficult to understand with his accent so be forewarned. I usually have to have him repeat something three times in order to understand him, but he's so very nice that I can't help but talk to him. Drinks are good here, and I think average prices. The place is clean, and the karaoke is average. I have heard my friends say the crab Rangoon is good here, but obviously I can't comment on that. My family and I had the displeasure of eating at this restaurant last week. We got there and our first tip should've been that it was completely empty besides one other party at 7 PM. We were seated and the server gave us tea with tea cups to start. One tea cup still had a lipstick print on it. When we ordered our drinks, I ordered an apple juice. When I received it, it tasted awfully similar to beer. I asked my mom and aunt to taste it and they both stated the same. So I asked for a Pepsi instead of the juice, and the server brought me a clear drink. Not sure what it was but I reiterated PEPSI. Finally got my pepsi and we waited for our food. I wasn't hungry so I just ordered beef teriyaki. It came with 8 strips. I ate four and we ended up packing up and leaving. When I got home, I was sick for about an hour and a half due to my food. I just ordered take out from there and the food was horrible. I took one bite out of my egg roll and it tasted more like dirt. The chicken fingers tasted like corn muffins and the crab rangoon had bid clumps of i don't know what. I very polietly called and said I would be returning the food (We didn't even bother to try the rest) the man on the phone was very nice asked what was wrong and told me to return it. When I got there I was harressed and embaressed by another man. He asked me what was wrong I told him, he told me I was the only one to ever complain about the food and I just didn't feel like paying for it I brought back ALL of the food even the half eaten egg roll. I never complain and was very nice knowing that it is not the counter persons fault. He treated me lvery disrespectful and I will never go there again. They wonder why the place is empty. read more

I use to love to eat here but not anymore. They changed there crab ragoons and that taste nasty not only to me. When you walk in to see a band playing all eyes are on you from the people, and if you don't order an alcoholic drink you get bad service to get another drink. I am only giving one star for the food. I find the food to be very good. However, the customer service is the worst I have ever seen. I have now had two episodes in regards to the customer service. I do not believe they even know what the term means. I ordered while driving home on Christmas Eve. I did not have a menu. I asked if I could get a combo plate with chix fingers, fries and crab Rangoon. He was asked what number it was. I told the man that I was driving and did not have a menu. He stated that I should then remember what number it was. I asked him to look for me. He did and stated that it was a no. 18. When we got the order it consisted of chix fingers, fried rice, beef teriyaki, and boneless ribs. When I called back he told me that it was my fault and that I should never call his restaurant without the correct number. That he was doing me a favor by looking it up and that was the closest to what I had ordered. I asked why he did not have the menu online and how could I look it up.
