This place has the best Chinese food. If you miss the Chinese food from the 70's go there. Everything is fresh and the service is great!

The place is low key which I like, they have great cocktails as well & very clean bathrooms.

I enjoyed it last summer enough to go back, so back I went, this time for a weekday lunch…read more -- Chicken Wings: A little on the small side, with all of them crisp, half of them fully glazed and brown, and the other half lightly glazed and not so brown. Good old school flavor on all. Moist yes; juicy no. Right around average. -- General Tso's Chicken (on a combo): Big pile, big pieces, bumpy and very meaty. Lightly crispy. Sauce fairly light and not bringing much heat to contrast the subdued sweetness. But what an allotment of meat. Average or a bit above. -- Egg Foo Yong (on a combo: Two thick, golden patties flooded with a smooth, tasty brown sauce. Underneath, very dense in pork nuggetry and good tenderness and overall flavor. A pleasure. Near-elite. -- Boneless Spareribs (on a combo): An easy upgrade from the standard crab rangoon for $2.50, these were a respectable stash of flat mini slabs well painted with a dark mahogany glaze. Moist, flexible, and carried to the finish line by some extremely delicious flavor. Well above average to near-elite. If a little more juicy, possibly elite. -- Egg Roll (in a combo): Another upgrade from crab rangoon, totally worth the $1.50. Crisp outside, moist pork and crisp cabbage inside, with noticeable five spice flavor. A little above average. -- Pork Fried Rice (on the combos): A stellar mound of dark, moist grains, with flavor every bit as pronounced as the color. Big chunks of red pork, with bean sprouts and egg chiming in. No onion. Overall, a delicious reminder of the golden age of pork fried rice. Near-elite to elite. Good food, with some of it great, and good value. Excellent service from Wendy, a pro with skills and a great sense of humor. Also nice to see Morgan, the excellent server from my previous visit.

This is now my go to Chinese restaurant the service was great and the food was excellent. The crab…read moreRangoon's have to be the best in the city of New Bedford. The lobster sauce was incredibly favorable and a lot of shrimp. It was excellent. The wonton soup was out of this world. The egg foo young was huge and it was delicious again I can't stress how the crab Rangoon's are the best in New Bedford. You can tell this place has regular customers just by the interaction between the staff and customers. It has a great vibe. Prices were very reasonable.

We were in the mood for some Chinese food and wanted to dine in rather than get take out (to enjoy…read moreit fresher). We stopped into Gumbo on Saturday night and we're seated immediately. Our server was fast and friendly but not overbearing. All of our food came out in waves, and at a good pace so we could enjoy it all. Everything was hot and fresh tasting, and the portions were perfect (had plenty to take home for leftovers). The interior looks as you would expect an older local Chinese spot to look. Some traditional decor and feel. Only constructive feedback would be about the booth cushions being a bit beat up but not terrible and wouldn't ruin the experience.

A weekday lunch at a Route 6 eatery that could pass for any suburban strip mall Chinese restaurant…read morewithin 30 miles of Boston. Small bar at the entrance, deceptively large dining room, and an old school menu similar to the previous joints I tried. The name on the signage out front differed from that on the menu, so I asked: the official name is Gum Bo, not Gumbo. General Gao's Chicken (on a combo): Shy of crisp, large of chunk, borderline moist, and mild on the sauce. Average. Pork Fried Rice (on the combo): Varying shades of darkness on the color, faintly moist, just a bit of old timey flavor, with an atypical light spiciness. A little above average. Egg Roll (on the combo): Celery and cabbage mix, with mini cubes of pink pork. Not moist but not bad. A little above average. Food ultimately was humdrum. Not bad by any means; just kinda typical and slightly better than average. Could've been what I ordered, could've been an off day, could've been my mood based on getting a lousy seat (on top of another table when there were plenty of other empty ones available), or could've been Chinese food fatigue from too many very recent (and better) Chinese meals. I've seen so much promise in the reviews and photos here and elsewhere, so I'm not giving up on Gum Bo; just a little short of expectation.
