I come here a lot, decent good old fashioned American burger joint food for a decent price . Sometimes the food can be better than other times, I can tell a difference whenever the shift changes. I actually really enjoyed this place. I came here on a whim with some family that are local to the area and was suggested to try the ice cream. It was actually delicious! The ice cream was soft and creamy, and the sundae itself looked beautiful. The staff were also very friendly and kind around some kids that came by (coincidentally, also to buy ice cream). I ended up getting a large fry and a grilled cheese. The sandwich was great, but the fries were even better. Plus, the large comes in an entire bag. I mean, they really are large. But for all of that and an extra sundae it was under $20. Pretty low pricing for some yummy food! It's in a really big and empty parking lot and looks a bit isolated, but don't let the location put you off. I've been going to this drive thru for weeks now since I started work in Rio Linda. Food is good. However, today I feel slightly cheated. A BLT on the menu costs 6.99. The BLT combo I ordered today cost me 16.69. Either adding fries and a drink adds $10 or I was intentionally charged too much. I don't think I'll be returning. Which sucks because I genuinely liked the food. Typically, the drive thru is ran by a younger girl who asks for my signature on the receipt and I tip regularly, but today it was an older lady with glasses and she didn't have me sign anything which was kind of a red flag for me. 3 stars for good Food -2 stars for peculiar pricing practices. I swear every time I get the same thing, I pay a different price. Sometimes it's exactly the price on the menu, sometimes it's that price with tax and then today where the cost didn't even make sense with the menu items. TLDR: Make sure that you are charged correctly for what you ordered. read more

I've been by this place a million times and have never stopped to try it. Ordered GH tonight. Had the chicken nuggets, fried zucchini and onion rings. All of it was great! Perfectly cooked and not greasy. The ranch dip is almost like a cream cheese dip. It's awesome. I also ordered a banana shake. And it was good. It's hard to find a decent banana shake! Whoever was working at Bowinkles tonight should be ashamed of themselves for sending a burger with me that looked like this... y'all need to take a little bit of pride in your work. The fact that half of the cheese was off of the burger and hanging outside of the bun and the other half of the burger didn't have any cheese at all. There was one piece of bacon on only half of the burger. And the bun only had mayonnaise on half of it. This place is a gem! Hidden in plain sight! I love everything this place serves up! My favorite thing to order here is the pastrami burger. Juicy and delicious grilled burger topped with pastrami, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onions. They also have great onion rings. I tried the peach milk shake and it was amazing! In a pinch quick and easy fast food smack in the middle of Rio Linda. A community favorite. One place you can still get a decent meal for not to expensive. $10.99 before tax got me the French cheeseburger combo with fries and a small drink. Also got a side taco for I think $2.79? Taco was surprisingly very flavorful, but gone in 2 bites. The burger was a nice touch on the French roll gave it some class, but obviously a frozen patty, although was 1/2pound so good portion. Fresh veggies, good service. Fries were cooked and salted just perfectly and came with a generous portion as well. Have been here years ago and will be back. My fiancé went to pick up dinner tonight from here. And when I say absolutely amazing, that is an understatement. Never been but we will definitely be coming back. I got the Santa Fe chicken sandwich, he got the double western cheeseburger, and we ordered a side of their mushrooms. The flavors tied in together with the Santa Fe, the burger was cooked perfectly, and the mushrooms were deep fried, very crispy and Suprisingly very juicy in a really good way. I was in the area for work grabbing some things and was craving a burger like nobody's business. The usual joints just didn't sound pleasing so I hopped on yelp to see what was around and then I found this gem. It's just a stand out in Rio Linda in a parking lot but the food?! Amazing. Definitely hit the spot and then some. I had a double western burger and chili cheese fries. Smackin! The line went fast, the man at the window was funny and personable. But wait.... can we talk about the prices?! I've never seen this quality for the price. My man got a double quarter pounder meal with supersize fries, and with my meal... we spent 20 bucks. Took a long time with no other cars in the drive thru. Overpriced. Jumbo corndog was a normal sized corndog and did not taste good at all. (It's been a few years since I've had one so maybe my expectations were high) Both burgers were not good at all. The patties had bubbles all over them and were dry. BBQ sauce is gross, ranch is gross, the onion rings have no onion rings in it. Just a bunch of onion flavored batter. The fries weren't bad. The drinks weren't bad either. I think overall, they just don't really care about the quality so they just do what they do and hope people keep coming. They should either increase their quality or drop their prices by almost half. The first sentence must mention Rush Limbaugh, of course. I don't think he's ever talked about Bowinkle's. But his first big radio gig was in Sacramento, "my adopted home town", and on one of his trips exploring his new city, he ended up in a rathole where cars were on concrete blocks, weeds were as tall as the cars, washing machines on the porch had plants inside them, paint was peeling, you get the idea. So when he felt that he needed to simplify one of his rants, he'd say, "For those of you in Rio Linda...", and to this day, he still does. There are only two reasons to go to Rio Linda: You live there, or you're a Dittohead on a pilgrimage to Bowinkle's to eat the burger named after the harmless loveable little fuzzball. Bowinkle's is located in a run-down standalone building in a run-down shopping center in a run-down downtown of a run-down burg. Not the ghetto of Sacratomato, but trailer park trash. Bowinkle's is a step up from a dive, a step below a real restaurant. Whatever profits they get go into their food. No inside seating, just two tables outside and a drive-through. Normal priced food for such a place. Great beef and condiments; maybe they have talent on loan from God. Lot's of mispelings on thier menu (Jalapino, chilli, Hawiaiian). Minus one star for location and mispelings, plus one star for food that makes up for that. And if the one-pound Rush Limbaugh burger isn't big enough for you, there's the one-and-a-half pound Gaggler. Thing is, you can find a great burger without having to drive all the way up to Rio Linda . . . Oh well, it was worth the trip for us. And yes, I *am* a Dittohead. read more

Disappointed in the service. I've lived in Rio Linda on my life and patronized Bowinkles for years, but that's going to change. I used the drive-through, and when I paid with my credit card, they had a tip line, which for fast food, I never tip. When he handed me my food through the car window, he read it off and said it was all there, but the chicken nugget kids meal was not there. We realized it after we got home. So I had to drive all the way back up there and all they said was sorry for the inconvenience. So this is why I think they did this on purpose, because I didn't tip. Tipping is for the full restaurant experience fast food does not give you that. I think it's ridiculous. Even asking for a tip and even more ridiculous they retaliate against you and make it inconvenient for you to get your complete meal. They also want to charge me for extra ranch for my zucchini which I had two orders. I don't think it's OK that they charge extra for condiments. I like patronizing the Rio Linda Community businesses, but will no longer patronize Bowinkles. read more
