I have been here twice so far. The first time we hosted a large gathering in the private room, and the entire experience was outstanding. Chef Hassan created a customized menu for our group, and every dish was beautifully prepared. I ordered the Beef Wellington, well, because there was absolutely no reason not to when that's on the menu! HA! It was incredible. The flaky dough wrapped around that filet mignon, ooh, amazing. It sat on creamy potatoes and veggies of some sort (it's been a minute, I can't recall the exact option). The private room was nicely lit, there were some candles and flowers across the table as well as wall decor. The server and busser took a little to get things rolling, but eventually things were moving along. We also had a few children in our party, and the staff was wonderful accommodating, which made the evening even more enjoyable. We were so impressed that we came back a second time - just my lady, my 6-month-old daughter, and myself - and it was on a busy Saturday night when you typically need reservations. We were lucky enough that Onur (manager) welcomed us with no hesitation and have us a little space to relax with our daughter and enjoy a wonderful dinner. We ordered the Appetizer for Two, which includes: Bruschetta, Caprese, Prosciutto Melone, & Beet Salad - a perfect amount for the two of us. Then we each got the Beef Wellington. Again, never a disappointment. YOU MUST TRY IT! To finish the night I had a latte and we shared a salted caramel gelato. Absolutely delightful. If you haven't tried La Fontaine, I highly recommend giving them a try. The weekends are busy, so if you're able to step out on a week night, do it. It was our second time at La Fontaine, having enjoyed our first visit and deciding to have a special anniversary dinner there. My overall four star rating is based on our two visits. The staff member that checked us in offered no smile or effort to be personable when seating us nor mentioned our anniversary which was noted in our reservation. This continued through her work at our table over the course of the night. Our server at least smiled on his visits to our table, but there is an opportunity for the staff to better connect with guests for a more positive overall experience. They offer good wine by the glass options and a nice pour for the price. We started with the octopus appetizer which we had enjoyed on our prior visit and it was once again fantastic. We had the duck and beef Wellington for entrees. The duck was a nicely prepared and sauced breast. The beef Wellington was fine, with a few medium rare bites in the middle very good. The dish would have been more successful if more of the beef had been medium rare. The lack of personable service on this visit made for a mediocre visit. Let me cut to the quick and tell you that if we were not there to spend a birthday gift card, we probably would have walked out. We are so glad we didn't spend our own money for this experience - it was like someone took a Restaurant 101 class and stopped halfway through the course and decided to open doors. La Fontaine is another super overpriced Walnut Creek restaurant whose continued existance can only be an unsolved mystery. On a Friday night at prime dinner hour, the restaurant was almost empty. This allowed us to hear the very bland and sleepy classical elevator music suitable for a funeral home lobby. We were able to puruse the entire menu thoroughly before anyone came to say hello or take our drink order. The menu could not be more uninspired. La Fontaine boasts the passion of Italy with the elegance of France. Um, the only conclusion is that no one at this restaurant has ever been to France or Italy and taken all their cues from a midwestern based "fancy restaurant" menu. We ordered drinks, an appetizer to share and our dinner choices. The appetizer came out 5 minutes before our drinks. I asked for ground pepper as there was no salt or pepper on the table and fresh pepper should be offered with a salad. While waiting for the drinks to arrive, we had plenty of time to look at the cheap silverware that was all banged up and the design inconsistancies of the space. It seemed like they started with a clear design brief but either ran out of money, or interest or most likely, both. The drinks arrived. Another 5 minutes later, the server came back and I asked for pepper again. Oh yeah. The salad was standard good, not great and cost $18. My husband ordered the lamb and I the branzino. His lamb at $52 was unevenly cooked and in a sickly sweet brown fig sauce. The veg was a boiled and bland mixture of broccolli, carrots and green beans. For a restaurant that boasts local and seasonal ingredients, at mid June in California, I have to think they shopped blind (no offense to blind people) and don't know how to prepare vegetables. My branzino was overcooked and very salty at $42. It came with "mango salsa," quotes intentional as it could only be described as small chunks of mango and maybe three tiny tomato chunks. I opted for brussel sprouts instead of the standard veg offering - see above - and those were good, but nothing special. The dessert menu came, we looked, we yawned and declined. Again, what a boring offering and everything had tasted meh to that point so why bother? We quickly left only paying for the tip - the server clearly wasn't going to make any money that night and we felt bad for her despite her very poor service. Conclusion. Mains at $28 (a burger or a chicken sandwhich) - $58, I expect a thoughtful experience that starts with the ambiance and finishes with excellent service and food that actually tastes like it was made for adults and not a picky 6 year old. read more

I found La Fontaine and thought this might be my new go-to. It was a cute restaurant had decent ratings. I usually try not to look at reviews so I can get an idea for myself but given almost a good majority of people have the same to say ... I should've so I could've given my business elsewhere. We came in at 9pm on a Friday (they close at 10), excited to try it out. The restaurant was calm, cozy, and nearly empty only a couple of tables lingering. Food: The food was good. The bruschetta (unpictured) was flavorful and fresh, bread was warm. The pistachio-crusted lamb chops were tender and nicely seasoned, though a not enough lamb for $46 you get more bites of vegetables than you do meat. The beef Wellington was hearty and good had a delicious mushroom sauce, and the brussels sprouts (no bacon) were fine nothing exceptional or even roasted, but they got the job done as a side. The Caesar salad (also unpictured) was seasoned, but came out as four whole romaine "boats" on a plate. It was laughable. Having cut into a salad yourself honestly the strangest "Caesar salad" I've ever been served. And 4 boats when we cut it up to turn it into an actual salad it was about 2-3 bites each for its price that's .. yeah. Service (the real reason for 1 star): Our waitress was the most monotoned person, she looked annoyed the entire time, and lacked basic customer service skills. She rarely checked in, left us without water for long periods of time, we at one point were looking everywhere to find a single person to fill our water and practically went our whole dinner without it ... we didn't order any other drinks either because we prefer water, water shouldn't have to repeatedly be asked for, This is what really irritated us. She never gave a single warning about the kitchen closing. At about 9:50, she came over and asked if we wanted anything else.. why even ask truly ??? I excitedly said "dessert menu" not realizing the time, we already knew we wanted the crème brûlée and tiramisu. Instead of a simple, "Just a heads up, the kitchen is closed," we got an attitude and a look that made us feel like a burden. Had we been told or were given a warning that the kitchen is closing, we would've ordered dessert immediately as we ordered our appetizers, entrees, and sides within 5 minutes of being seated. I mean come on .. even Cheesecake Factory gives guests a last call so there's no confusion. Here, we got stared at blankly, then an odd chuckle, a check dropped on the table, and she walked away without another word. What made it worse was what we watched unfold. Between 9:50-10, staff were being served fresh entrees at the bar. Of course, staff deserve to eat, but to deny paying customers dessert or not ask at one point during the meal if you can get them anything or that you're taking last call or if we'd like dessert before the kitchen closes ... while serving your own team right in front is kind of unacceptable. Even more off-putting, a woman who seemed like a manager walked over, to ask a staff member what he wanted from the kitchen, giggled with him, and never acknowledged us despite me smiling at her. For such an empty dining room, the lack of basic hospitality was shocking given it was only one table to serve. There were a few maybe 2-3 tables sat that were there before we walked in and even lingered after we left .. Had it been busy or there was one person waiting multiple tables we'd be pretty understanding but given I've sat at the busiest restaurant during peak hours and have been provided better service is disappointing. The food deserves 5 stars. But without service to match, the experience falls flat and that's a shame, because this place had a lot of potential. First impressions matter. Maybe this was just our waitress and our experience, but with how empty the restaurant was, there wasn't much excuse for the lack of basic hospitality. If 9pm is too late for full service, then be upfront about it refuse service, give a kitchen cut-off, anything to set expectations. Instead, we were left feeling like an inconvenience in a half-empty dining room while staff enjoyed fresh entrees with smiles and laughs. Are you there to serve customers or your own staff ?? Is your staff the one paying and tipping or your customers?? This place seems to have it backwards. Do yourself a favor. If you enjoy good food, fair prices, and great service. While the food is really tasty, the service is so slow. And that's hard to understand since each table seems to have a server, or the servers maybe have 2 tables. For the prices, there should be faster service, and this is my only compliant. I sit with an empty drink and really would love my server to come and ask if I want another. My stomach is hungry, it's my partner's birthday, the kid is "starving" and our family is also asking me "Why here?" and that makes me sad. It's only one day a year that he has a birthday. I wanted it to be super special. Not just take a long time. That's not special. I had asked for bread for the kiddo, since she was so hungry, and the server finally came so I requested bread especially for my hungry kid, she replied "No problem." Buuuuut about 20 minutes later, maybe longer, I find myself waving at the 4 servers standing literally 4 feet from my table (and no one seemed to notice me which is impossible at the height and aggressiveness I was waving my arms) that some other man came from across the dinning room saying, "I see you, sorry, what can I get for you?" Came here for dinner. The ambience is rich-old-white-people nice. We ordered an appetizer for 2, beet salad, gnocchi, orechiette, pollo Di Angelo, clam chowder. The clam chowder was a bit bland. The gnocchi was very rich in sauce, but the kids didn't like it as it had greens in them. The orechiette was great, no overwhelming taste of bacon, and the pasta consistency was great. Every thing I had was terribly bland. The appatizer had no flavor at all and the lamb chops we barely warm with hardly anything else on the plate. It was just me 'n' Mumsy this year so I suggested we go out for Thanksgiving lunch. The host was so gracious and our server, Dennys, was attentive and charming! Everyone else was lovely too, TBH. The food? Oh yeah! I had the octopus appetizer from the regular menu which was melt in your mouth deliciousness with a fava (or broad bean?) base - in different circumstances, I would have wiped the plate clean with a piece of bread French country style! I had the lobster ravioli special, which was both decadent and delicate - the taste of the lobster wasn't overwhelmed by the light creamy sauce, and the pasta was the perfect bite. Mumsy had the turkey cordon bleu special which both satisfied turkey tradition without the (alleged) tryptophan coma! Too stuffed for dessert (but that's okay as we aren't really "sweet" people!). Mind you the chocolate wotnot looked very tempting... I am very thankful for everyone who worked today - it was the most relaxing Thanksgiving we've had in a long time and I am grateful that you made it possible. It felt very impersonal and for a place with so many employees and such empty place, they took a very long time. Our food took almost an hour to come out after putting in our order! Again, there were so many employees and not that many patrons in the restaurant, and yet they rarely checked on us. The food; hit or miss depending what you get. We got the fries, foccacia, calamari, seafood pasta, and branzino. The fries was phenomenal! So good. The calamari was nothing to write home about. The seafood pasta wasn't life changing. But the branzino was very yummy! The inside; miss. Not my favorite theme and honestly was very dim. Just doesn't feel welcoming or comforting at all. Probably wouldn't come back again. We visited for my birthday during lunchtime and it wasn't as packed. The interior is smaller with limited parking which you would need to account for. As we made a reservation, we were seated right away and placed our orders. We waited about 15 minutes for our food to come out which was expected for a more high-end establishment. We had the gnocchi, which came in a delicious cream sauce and the gnocchi itself had a nice bouncy texture to it. However, it was a heavy portion which we shared. The grilled salmon and veggies were amazing and offered a nice balance to the heavy gnocchi dish. The lava cake had a nice, rich chocolate flavor and was great with the vanilla ice cream it was served with. Overall, I recommend checking this place out and would love to dine here again! read more

We recently dined at La Fontaine, and I must say, it was a delightful experience from start to finish. Nestled in Walnut Creek, this charming restaurant ambiance set the stage for a wonderful evening. Upon entering, we were greeted by Maham (who was not only the host, but the bartender and waitress) . Maham and the rest of the staff were incredibly welcoming, attentive, fun to interact and created a vibrant fun atmosphere throughout the meal. The cocktails recommended by Maham was mesmerizing not only in looks but taste. We opted for the Two for $125 menu (two app, two entree and two desserts). If you have to choose, go for the Crab Cakes and Asparagus Soup. We had one person with a no salt diet, but even with this, the food was excellent. The Beef Wellington was cooked to perfection (we asked for Medium Rare and the Chef nailed it) The Crusted Lamb Chops had a good toasted pistachio taste and the lamb meat was not gamey. And of course, the Steak and Fries was very good although we prefer the Beef Wellington. As for desserts, I'll say the Chef is an Excellent Chef but not a Pastry Chef. The restaurant and restrooms are always nice and clean. The appetizers are light and a nice start to your meal. From the fromage de chèvre aux pistaches, to the antipasti for two. I even enjoyed the grilled octopus even though I'm not a big fan. I've had the salmon sandwich for lunch which was good but high priced. For dinner I've had the beef wellington and the steak frites. The only real issue was service was so slow. We waited so long to order. They never came back and asked about us. We had to flag our server down to order second drinks.
