Horrible customer service. I left here a couple of minutes ago and I am a regular customer and I called in the order and they messed it up. I called to tell them they messed up the order AFTER I had already drove home and the guy had a nasty attitude and he was in denial, but he said I can come back and get What he "claimed" I ordered. Once I got there I explained that I was coming from work and it was taking away from my work day to come BACK here...he did not care. He gave me attitude the entire time saying it wasn't his problem, I asked him for my money back for the entire order and I'd go else where, he said NO. Then I asked if he could at least let me keep the food they got wrong since they were going to throw it away and he said NO. I will never come here again he was rude, disrespectful and overall an ASS! read more

Good, and I'll be back. First taqueria visit in awhile, browsing Yelp's photos and seeing the interior here was like - Ah! Perfect! My taco dinner was solid. Carnitas: good, would definitely order again. Al pastor: only ok, bummer, might try again. Rice and beans: pretty standard, nothing to write home about. Tortillas: thick and held together well. Horchata: delicious. Yummmmmmm. Red sauce: smelled tomato-y but had some zing. Green sauce: pretty good, also had a bit of zip. Friend's chicken and veggies was only ok; the veggies didn't have a ton of flavor and texture was so-so. I'll try some of the other standard fare here. read more

This is a difficult review to write. Great location, excellent service, nice staff, clean dining room. But the food...... Was a nightmare. I ordered a carne asada dinner with a diet Coke. The steak was overcooked, bland and rubbery, likely frozen prior. The onions were overabundant and undercooked. Even the diet Coke taste watered down and terrible. For $12.13, I expected more. I've gone here a few times after a night out with friends and fell in love with their chicarones tacos. However, this is based off my recent trip, yesterday. As its been months since I have been here, but I was disappointed to where I won't be returning again. I had the 3 taco dinner (steak, tripas, and chicarrones) the sides of bean & rice lacked flavor and was super bland, where it tasted like it was from a can or a box. The steak taco was dry, the tripas were decent, and the chicarones were not how I remembered them to be. To be honest, we did eat a majority of it because we have been drinking, but usually I'm not picky and just realized knowing if I was pretty sober eating that, I would've most likely left everything on the plate. My friend had some spicy shrimp dish, which also lacked flavor and her husband got the shrimp cocktail, which only came with maybe 5 pieces of shrimp in there as it was all mainly the tomato juice. Too bad, this was our go to spot whenever in the area. We will now be looking elsewhere for tacos. read more

So, when I was a kid, my grandpa used to take us to Original Tacos for burritos. All I knew it as was "the burrito place." He would order a wet burrito that was as big as HIS head, and would order us a burrito to share (steak, no beans.) I remember LOVING it then, but as a wee little gringa, feeling out of place, because I was the only gringa (my grandpa was a VERY dark Italian who could easily pass for Hispanic,) and no one really spoke English. Now that I am grown, I know that this is a GOOD THING. I love going into a place where I'm the only gringa, because I know I'm going to get a GOOD MEAL. Fast-forward several years, I had completely forgotten Original Tacos existed, and wish I would've remembered/known in my 20's, because eating their tacos at 2am on the way home from Durty Nellie's would've been way better than our usual stop at either White Castle or Taco Bell on Dundee. Anyway, my husband and I just moved to Palatine, and on our first night with keys to our new home (we didn't even sleep there, just went to drop off some stuff, do some swapping of fixtures, etc.) I was looking for something to either pick up or have delivered. And I remembered Original Tacos. I am SO FLIPPING GLAD I DID. (Have I mentioned I'm pregnant, and have been eating spicy food like it's going out of style, heartburn be damned?) So, I stopped in and placed a to-go order: 3 steak tacos American style (lettuce, tomatoes, cheese). 3 Al Pastor tacos Mexican style (cilantro and onion) chips, salsa, and guacamole. To-go. I am almost positive the lady who took my order was the same lady who worked there 25 years ago when I would come in with my grandpa, which I loved and was totally nostalgic for me. The food was prepared fresh to order, and I had no problem waiting for it (10 minutes, max.) When I paid I mentioned to the gentleman who took my payment about how my grandpa used to bring us in as kids, and he smiled real big and said "well, welcome back!!!" I liked that too. The tacos were just as delicious as I remember the burritos being when we were kids - and they were HUGE. At $2 each, they were full of meat and toppings, I could barely finish the 3 I ordered. The salsa was really spicy and I also love that they give you some of the green and red hot sauce to go as well. I told my husband, if I start getting crazy pregnancy cravings, it is a good thing we know Original Tacos is open until 3am! read more

This is my go to place for Burritos! Hands down. To be clear this place is a dive. But the staff are pleasant, and the food is top notch. Prices are very reasonable. I usually walk in, order, and have a real sugar Coke while I wait. Food comes out quick and is consistent from visit to visit. Perfect place to get burritos to go and bring back to the family. This is probably one of the best Mexican restaraunts in the area. There are some tables inside to sit and eat at but it is a small restaurant mainly for takeout. Delicious, affordable, friendly hole-in-the-wall with a sign outside of it that says all you need to know, "tacos." 3 meals cost me a hair over $20. 6 hours later and I'm still so very full. In my quest for the tastiest Mexican food in the NW burbs, I've been tricked many a time with a beautifully presented dish that lacked flavor. Not here. Authentic, a hint of kick and everything was well cooked. The biggest highlight was the quick and friendly service. It's unfortunate this place doesn't have more reviews. It needs and deserves it. Stop by, pay less than the McDonalds-owned burrito chain and treat yourself to something bigger in size and better in taste! read more

I have been coming here for nearly 30 years. Started in the early 90s. Back then there was not burrito joints on every corner. Not much has changed, it still is fantastic. One noticeable difference though is the main dude got all built, he is almost like a pocket Hercules. Had some some communication problems once with a cook. He was making my fries and I wanted them crispy. So I kept telling the dude "well done" like 5 times. I think he thought I was some nut job complimenting him on his work over and over because the fries were done well, but not well done. Minus 1 star because Pocket Hercules scares me a bit. Always imagine him jumping the counter and smashing my non menu vegi burrito in my face. Also, the posts for the parking lot sign are too narrow. My shithead friend thought he could drive through it on the way out and got his Ford Escort lodged between the posts. Everyone was pissed. read more

The nachos are a joke. I almost never came back because of that. They threw some chips with some nacho cheese and VERY greasy ground beef together and it reminded me of shitty cafeteria food, on a bad day. This place is tiny, dinky, and you could miss it very easily, but you would be missing some of the best Menudo in town. The broth is not as dark red as I usually like it, but the flavor is HUGE. For only 5.75, you could have the deliciously meaty bowl of tripe goodness just like Grandma used to make if she were a living on a farm in San Jacinto, MX and just butchered the family cow. Tried them for lunch yesterday. I really wanted tacos but I ended up with the enchiladas. I got the dinner plate which is 3 enchiladas, rice and beans. I liked that you can see what is being cooked, and all of the aromas coming from behind the counter smelled amazing! The restaurant itself is tiny, I think I counted 8 tables, and it was very clean. They have a decent size menu, a lot to choose from and they sell beer! My order was done and ready to go in about 6 minutes. I was very impressed with the size of my meal but the food didnt wow me. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed and liked my meal but I wish I would have ordered the tacos. I got a cheese, a steak and a chicken enchilada. The meat tasted delicious, full of flavor and just right but I wasn't impressed with the sauce. There was nothing special about it. The rice was ok but I didn't like the beans at all. Im a beans girl and these beans were not good, very bland. So I give this place 4 stars because I loved the flavor of the steak and chicken and I know the tacos would be delish and their horchata was great. I will for sure go back for the tacos! read more

My father-in-law used to say if you want to find the best food in a neighborhood, find out where the locals eat. Well when it comes to Mexican food, I'm guessing the locals eat at Original Tacos. The prices are reasonable, the food is tasty and English is NOT the primary language spoken by the wait staff. :-) I had heard about this place from a friend of mine when we were telling them about Taco el Norte and raving about how authentic is was. My friend mentioned that this place was good and I figured I'd give it a try. The guacamole was good, the salsa was spicy (but not too much) and my ground beef macho burrito was more than I could finish. (Maybe because i also got a side of rice and beans.) The co-worker I came with also got the macho burrito, but his had shredded beef and he said he'd make a point to go out of his way to eat at this place again. So if you haven't been here and you like tasty Mexican food, it's worth the effort to stop in for lunch or dinner. read more

Original tacos is a solid, no frills Mexican restaurant. They make a great steak burrito and the enchiladas are also very tasty. Drink selections include pineapple water (my favorite), horchata and a standard array of jaritos (sorry no aqua de Jamaica). They serve a number of Mexican beers too. Referred here by friends. The place is small. It does have a few tables, but it's more of a take out restaurant. I went with a group of coworkers and we all tried various items off the menu. Everyone thought that the food was amazing. I got the tacos al pastor and they were better than any place I have been to in the Palatine area. Prices are very reasonable (3 tacos came to $6 and some change). Street style tacos, fast and super friendly service and amazing flavor. Give this place a shot! The tacos were slightly above average, NO free chips and salsa :( , decent prices, and the sauces (green/red) they brought to the table were REALLY watery, which was frustrating as the liquid would run down my hand and wrist when trying to eat the taco. Tip: you go past the GFS market place and Chen's (all within small plaza) then you will see a small sign that says Original Tacos. It was my first time trying out the tacos here. And it wasn't all that great. I ordered 3 chicken tacos and 3 fish tacos for pick up. They gave me about 5-10 minutes so it was pretty quick in terms of cooking. Each taco comes with lettuce, onion, cilantro upon your request. It's about the size of your hand as for the portion. Chicken taco was quite disappointing to say the least. Chicken was very dry and overcooked as it became harder to eat without pouring a load of salsa that came with the order. Fish taco was better however. It was a fried cod filet that also appeared to be overcooked. It had a dark brown coating which showed sign of being left in the fryer for too long. I paid about 13 dollars for 6 tacos, but I felt like I didn't get what I paid for in terms of quality. Good thing I was at least hungry. This review is solely on the tacos so I can't say much about other things on the menu. If you're looking for good quality tacos, I'd suggest you find somewhere else. read more

Very small dining room, not lots of staff on to handle a lunch rush, so if your time sensitive, please call ahead. Otherwise beware cranky Clock Watching HR/Boss types. I had something interesting... A Hawaiian Burrito. BBQ Sauce, Steak (or Chicken), pineapple, refried beans, rice, lettuce, and perhaps a few other odds and ends. It was nice sized, and certainly a unique taste. Encouraging enough to try them again, but likely not for another Hawaiian burrito.
