Wanted to update my review. We've been coming here since 2018 and always had consistently awesome food. My go to is the chicken and beef teriyaki combo. The first time I thought it to be a little spendy but I can make 3 meals out of it. I love the always fresh salad and yummy dressing. Sometimes I get spring rolls or gyoza but last night we got the crunchy tempura shrimp. So good! Next time I'll try the tempura veggies. I'd been telling my husband that they had salmon and he tried it last night. I was shocked at the size and quality. It was so juicy and cooked perfectly. Honestly the best teriyaki chicken I've ever had. I came here on a whim but I'm obsessed, if I lived here I'd come here every day!! The Yakisoba is my favorite the sauce is AMAZING and Katsu Chicken is so fresh and juicy. Super MACRO friendly!!! Also the people here are super nice, they look scary especially the man but he's so funny when you talk to him. Such a sweet beautiful little nook. The lady who served us was very rude. We asked him for hot sauce and he said we had to pay for it, we didn't want to pay for it and he went to the table and threw the sauce at us. It really wasn't necessary to have that attitude, She told us just pay it, it's not expensive. read more

Joy Teriyaki was one of my first Portland/Surrounding area teriyaki joints that I fell in love with back in like 2007. I have been going to them ever since. I very rarely get food thats not consistent and delicious. I recently moved to the Happy Valley area and was excited to see a Joy not to far from my home. This place gets a solid 3 stars. Customer service has been hit or miss. I've had some nice interactions, but most of the time they seem pretty busy (good sign) and don't feel like they have the time to greet and help. Its more of a "want do you want?... that will be X amount of dollars" and then you wait for your food. Its not neccesarily rude, just frank. The restaurants are setup kinda fast food like. They dont provide a strong "i wanna go eat here" vibe, but its usually fairly clean and comfortable for a quick meal. The hardest pill for me to swallow is that the prices have just kept going up and up and its getting close to $20 for a teriyaki plate (I believe is $16 for a regualr teriyaki chicken plate). I know inflation is a thing, but its getting so much more expensive that i've reverted to making it at home more. So im bummed that the cost has risen to the point of pricing me out. Because if im getting a meal for $20, I think the preparation should be a little higher (less gristley chicken, not soggy salad). I will probably go back everyonce and a while when I am out of food ideas and need a Yaki fix. But I appreciate the amount of times Joy has fed me over the years and so for that reason alone Id recommend a visit. read more

Small building with small staff but definitely huge favorite when it comes to the chicken and rice bowl hitting the taste buds. Would love to recommend this one to the friends and family if they wanted something small after work or just to take home for the next day for lunch... Worth going if you like teriyaki bowls. This place is a chain?!?!?!? It doesn't SEEM like a chain: Is the food good? It is absolutely outstanding! Are the portion sizes small? They're enormous!!! Is all the food made ahead of time, fast food style? No, it's all made to order. Is the service disinterested and non-caring? Nope, the people running the establishment couldn't be friendlier and more helpful. Is it expensive? It's stupidly cheap, especially considering the titanic amount of food you get for your money. I'm SERIOUSLY blown away by Joy Teriyaki! I stopped in after working late for a fast dinner, and was mightily impressed by the friendliness and knowledge of the staff about all of the dishes. The service was fast and friendly, and upon opening my take-away at home, I couldn't believe the portion size! A big salad, two big scoops of rice, and, no joke, what appeared to be FOUR entire chicken thighs (boned and uniformly sliced). I could barely finish it. The other dishes were all equally generously sized. Unlike most establishments where portion size is the draw, the quality is tremendously great! Everything was perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely delicious! The spicy chicken actually packs a good amount of heat, and has an amazingly great flavor. Don't bother with any of the other local teriyaki chains, just go to Joy. You'll be joyful that you did! read more

The chicken and beef was cold and undercooked. You have to pay extra for a little cup of sauce to go with your rice and meat.

The chicken was tender, the spicy sauce was flavorful and not overly sweet and the vegetables fresh and cooked to perfection; bonus with the homemade sesame salad dressing! Teriyaki chicken is OK (Average) the rest of the meal however ... There was granulated sugar on my green salad, who does that? Yuck! The rice was plain white rice and was OK but no plum or teriyaki sauce was available to dress it up. No Spiracha sauce on table but the did have a hot & sweet sauce available. The women and man who run this one in Happy Valley seemed to be always in a bad mood. If you want good Teriyaki then this place is good. Very similar to its competitor Ichi Teriyaki down the road. Some dishes deserve 4 star, but over all a 3 star. Unlike Ichi Teriyaki they do not offer free soup to customers dining in. Their chicken is almost always nice and moist; not dry. They might have the best fried rice in town compared to other teriyaki joints. read more

So delicious!!! For years I used to drive all the way to Gresham for joy teriyaki and I'm so happy the owners opened another location near by!! Other teriyaki restaurants in clackamas just didn't compare!!! The food is ridiculously good and awesome quality. I'm probably the pickiest person I know when it comes to meat quality and their chicken is always fresh and moist, no weird pieces!! They make absolutely every dish to order - even the fried rice and yakisoba noodles! FINALLY a place that doesn't serve dry gross fried rice. Great experience! I work somewhat close to this location and noticed that it recently opened up. The inside is pristine and organized. The menu has so many delicious choices, especially the "Gyoza". Here is my Rant for today about the JOY TERIYAKI in Sandy. So I called in my order and went to go get it called about 6 I get there then they didn't my whole order ok no biggy so I order again this is at 6:23 several people come in and order. Well after watching about 6 people get their order I'm upset because, I only ordered chicken bowls nothing major. I say where is my order, she says hang on let me check mean while more people behind me get their orders first still. finally at 7:15 my order arrives! well all most an hour wait and what there is no I'm sorry for your wait no oh I'm sorry for this can I get you a free drink nothing!! I will never set foot in this place again! Piss poor service! Don't go there! oh I wasn't the only one that was pissed off about the same thing. read more
