Not much places are opened for breakfast in Barstow (at least not much places I'll like to eat at for breakfast), but Tommy's one of the few! To be honest, I'm not really a big fan of Tommy's breakfast menu. Instead, I'm more of a fan of their regular menu. So, boy, I was glad when I got there (10ish) - breakfast just ended and lunch was being served! We ordered the Cheeseburger and Caliente Burger and both burgers tasted fantastic! Yes, the buns were a bit soggy from the chili and the cheese. But, I would be questioning if that wasn't indeed the case! The Caliente Burger tasted like the Cheeseburger except the yellow peppers that were contained within the chili packed a WHOLE LOT of HEAT! If you like something spicy, definitely opt for the Caliente and get those heartburn meds ready! Otherwise, I'll stick to the regular Cheeseburger. read more

Chili(fries + burger) = wow. We stopped by Tommy's in Barstow because the other famous burger joint across the street was packed and we didn't want to wait. It was pretty toned down inside and the service were eager to help us, albeit want to move us quickly through the line. Chili is the main ingredient here, well grease also. Chili is plopped on everything, so they might as well put it in the drink! Good: Tasty stuff without waiting in line. Bad: If you don't like chili. The menu is just the basics here but tastes different than your average fast food. The chili cheese fries and the chili on just about ANYTHING here is good! YUM First off, lemme say this place is a cardiologists nightmare, or maybe a cardiologists dream, because the medical industry is making a fortune on all the bypass surgeries that are caused by the food. I had passed by this many times because of the proximity of an In-N-Out Burger, which is my go to fast food joint, but after a friend forced me to try Tommy's world famous, I have to say sorry In-N-Out, when I need a grease fix on the road to vegas, it's Tommy's from now on. Onward: The place itself is pretty much your standard side of the freeway fast food joint in the desert.. Plastic booths, creepy looking locals, and tired looking travelers. However, the average waistline of people eating there testifies to the power this place has to draw in those who appreciate 2000+++ calorie burgers. The chili taken stand alone isn't noteworthy in the least bit, but when smothered across a dog or burger with all the fixings it comes alive and works so well it's indescribable. I'm a huge Tommy's fan and this is our tradition to eat here either on our way or coming from Vegas. For some reason they have to lock the front entrance now and you have to enter/exit from the side...they didn't have any signs and it was confusing and lame! It's very clean inside and the bathrooms were maintained. We didn't try the new Caliente Burger cause it was too early in the day for heartburn. PS right off the freeway so it's easy to get back to your roadtrip. read more

I had a hard decision today, In&Out or Tommy's I can rarely get to a Tommy's so I chose the latter. Only my second visit thy have never disappointed to make you exactly what you order. I had the double with chilli (no onions) and chilli cheese fries. The first time I visited it though it was a bit like a Detroit style coney, but I think I may have figured out the difference (not that it's rocket science). Tommy's adds bean but make sure they are ground into the chilli which gives it a smoother more even texture and holds the chilli together. Still greasy and you will always need many napkins, that certainly won't stop me from enjoying it. read more

I've heard so many great things about Tommy's Original Hamburgers! I finally decide to go against my better judgment and fall into the peer pressure from my friends and tried them out! The fact that they have chili cheese everything sold me because I love chili cheese fries omg I almost died. They can get pretty pricy so be ready to spend! Also be prepared to be offered a bunch of different options because apparently you can upsize the meat patty I believe to quarter and then also the regular fries can be substituted for chili cheese fries instead. At first I was going to be a complete fat ass and get the triple chili cheeseburger but then I thought about the pain, suffering and potential time that would be spent on the toilet hahaah! One of the great things I could appreciate about this place is that your burger and fries are "made to order" and not anything that has been sitting around in a plastic tray in warmers. That always enhances the taste right for something to be fresh off the grill. I don't under the bad reviews because my visit was great! All I can say is if you can stomach one of these bad boys of a burger down followed by some fries and make it to your next destination lol then by all means GO FOR IT! read more

My girlfriend and I stopped in for a burger after shopping at the Outlet stores. We had heard about the place before but hadn't tried it. The cashier was friendly enough and explained what was on the burgers that we thought we'd try. I had a Cheeseburger and she ordered a California Classic and we decided to share a large fry. They tried to give us some fries that were ready 5 minutes before the burgers. Then when the burgers were done they said they'd make new hot fries, meanwhile the burgers would be cold when the fries were ready. Suddenly they had some hot fries to give us at the same time as the burgers. The fries were hot and thick cut and were pretty tasty. My girlfriend enjoyed her Classic burger, and had requested some of the "Famous" chili on the side. She said the chili was cold. My burger was pretty tasty and messy to eat but my chili on the burger was also cold. We decided not to go to the counter to complain again as we already saw one man bring his burger up saying it wasn't cooked and another man who said he had ordered something different than what he received. We may give them another visit one day..... but not anytime too soon. read more

Mom and I were on our way to Las Vegas and there was nothing that was pretty much open except for Tommy's and we took the chance to stop there before getting to the Nevada state line since we both knew that Peggy Sue's was closed because I didn't want to get hungry before crossing in to the state line. I saw the billboard for it while driving on the 15 around Victorville and decided to stop there the moment we crossed into Barstow and it was worth it. Paid less than $20 for our food and drink orders and it was worth it. Dining room table was clean, people were nice, food and drinks tasted very good and managed to listen to the music playing on the highway stations while we were inside eating our food. Haven't used the drive-thru yet because I didn't want to eat while on the road. The chili cheese fries I managed to eat were very good along with a hot dog with everything on it except chili and a good soda fountain selection as well. It is the best place to eat at in the Mojave desert whether you're heading to or leaving Las Vegas which is located right near a couple of hotels and other restaurants as well and I would definitely go back again next time we take a road trip to Las Vegas. read more

Tommy Burgers used to be my favorite fast food place. It is getting really bad now. I'm at Outlet Center store and the Mexicans in there barely speak any English and they certainly do not understand English when you place an order. I said no onions and she gave me a burger loaded with onions and then tried to blame it on me and acted like she didn't understand. Finally after 20 minutes they made another burger for me but refused to give me fries, obviously my French fries had already gotten ice cold by the time they gave me another Burger terrible way to do business. If you're going to hire Mexicans at least get some that speak English and understand English. Behind the counter they absolutely do not even try to speak English, it sounds like you are in Tijuana. Absolutely terrible way to do business. And trying to blame the customer for your own mistakes, I've never been treated so crappy in any store. read more

Gotta love a good chili burger and this is the place! Been coming here for many many years and I'm never disappointed. Their chili will stick with you all day long, if you know what I mean. Ok, this is for Tommy's place in Barstow. Last Sunday I went on a Barstow outlet run and found out there's a Tommy's out there. I first saw the Tommy's sign from inside a Taco Bell across the street right after I sat down to eat (inside my head was full of ???? marks as I was momentarily confused, had no idea there was one out in Barstow). I made up my mind to go to Tommy's as soon as I swallow the taco (Luckily I ordered only a single taco). The burger: It's Tommy's alright. But the tomatoes and onions and pickles, there are so much of it, even the burger patty and the bun seemed a little larger with more chili stuffed in and around it (maybe I haven't gone to Tommy's on Beverly for a while and forgotten how it looks, maybe I've never been to Tommy's in a bright daylight before. . .). The tomatoes seemed so vivid red, and so healthy looking. . . Weird, if the original Tommy's burger is the father, it was like seeing this Barstow Tommy's burger as his son (sons usually seem to grow a little taller, a little cleaner and healthier looking, etc.). I had no complaints though, everything looked and tasted fresh with plenty of chili (even though I didn't ask for extra chili), nice. The onions were not overpowering, had a nice aftertaste, but I avoided talking while shopping (nods and grunts can get you far, I don't care if they thought I was handicapped). The place: It appeared to be spotless, a huge change in impression and atmosphere from the Tommy's I remember. The customers: There were plenty of kids there. One girl, 3~4 year old from the family in the booth in front of me, turned around towards me (at this point she's like 4' away), rested her elbows on top of the booth and ate slowly while staring at me while I chew on my food and stare at her. Smiles were exchanged once at the beginning, both stared at one another with utter indifference (why kids do that? Are they trying to read you mind?. Did I do that as a kid? Probably). The staff: They were young but friendly, hassle free and attitude free, courteous and polite (not like some town I've been to where they look at you like you're an outsider, young kids you know. Wait, that's anywhere LA. Sorry, I meant to say I did not experience LA style stare down by the cashiers behind the counter). It was a pleasant/interesting experience, made my day. read more

THey messed up on our orders continually, even after we took it back 2 times... They could never get it right.
