We would have never heard of this place if it wasn't for Harvest Host. We chose it since it was along our planned route and it turned out to be a great decision. We ate both dinner and breakfast the next morning and both were great. Burgers very fresh and fries hot and crispy. And I always love it when a restaurant offers chicken and waffles. The decor is very eclectic. Ceiling covered with ball caps (Literally hundreds of them). It's definitely a classic local dive. The land out back where Harvest Host guests stay is very roomy. First, this is a cafe in the middle of the desert. It has a lot of history, which you can find out about on their website. My wife and I ate here for Valentine's day. It had been about 9 years since I've been here, but nothing's changed. It's very nostalgic, the food is great and the service is fast even though it gets really crowded around lunch. My wife had a cheeseburger with no onions and I had the chicken sandwich with no onions both were excellent. The ambience is unbelievable. It's reminiscent of an Old Ranch feed House. Cut this place is definitely for people that ride motorcycles or dune buggies or quads. I had been coming to this place on and off for over 48 years. As you might expect it's a little on the pricey side however you have to remember that you are in the middle of the desert, literally. When my friend from Japan came last year, he wanted to go out there that's how famous this place is. Try it if you get a chance, you won't regret it. They open around 8:00 on Saturday and they are only open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I forgot to mention, this place is great for kids. Just paid $42 for a "certified" Angus beef ribeye that I ordered medium RARE, but it was more medium well than anything. I ribs were pretty good (lots of meat on thebone), but would be better if they weren't swimming in BBQ sauce. Really disappointed to pay so much for such low quality food. read more

Was out in the area and wanted something simple. First off this place is all vibes. Chill and lax. All terrain vehicle grub spot. Lots of open parking. Owners proudly taking orders and live music by them as well. I got a double cheese burger, large chili cheese fries, onion rings and a hot dog with all the condiments. The burger was on point. Fresh and grilled fresh. Same with the hot dog. Chili cheese fries were good. Lots of beans in the chili. Big portion. And the onion rings are beer battered or appear that way. All the food was great. The prices were good too. Expect at home bbq style food. My only gripe was that all orders are all taken at the front by one person. Slash X Ranch Cafe is a restaurant that caters to off-road enthusiasts, including bikers, quad riders and four wheelers. This fine restaurant is located a few miles south of Barstow, in the Stoddard Valley area of the Mojave Desert. After a hard, dusty day of hitting the hundreds of trails that Stoddard Valley has to offer, park your Jeep in front of Slash X Ranch Cafe, and enjoy a delicious burger, and the coldest beer south of Barstow. As you enter the restaurant, you'll notice the funky decor, dominated with beer signs and countless American flags and banners, which seem to be everywhere. Look up to the ceiling and it's covered with hats, of every shape and size, but mostly every variety of ball cap under the sun. There is even a bicycle hung from the ceiling... how many times do you find that? You'll also see mounted deer and other animals that inhabit the desert near Barstow. "Western" would be a great word to describe the decor of the dining room and the bar. You make your selection from the menu, and then you go to order line. You place your order, pay for it, and you're given a receipt with your name on it. When your order is ready, one of the chefs will call your name and you pick up your order at the bar. Better yet, if you're sitting at the bar, your order will be brought to you. From the "Burgers" section of the menu, we went with the "OHV Special with Cheese," and a side of fries. Yes, we enjoyed "OHV Special with Cheese" every night we dined, but when you're a "foodie" and a burger fanatic, what more could you ask for? The burger started with a medium size sesame seed bun that was lightly toasted and it was fresh as it gets. "OHV Special" includes TWO patties of choice beef - probably a quarter pound - lightly seasoned and cooked to a perfect medium. The beef was topped with a slice of perfectly melted American cheese, and Thousand Island dressing garnished the bun. Veggies included tomato, lettuce, and in my case, onion. You can order the burger "your way," and in Tom's case, he omitted the onion. The fries, or as Slash X calls them, "Freedom Fries," were medium cut, and deep fried to a semi-crispy golden brown on the outside, and white, juicy and tender on the inside, just the way fries should be. The fries were delicious, and made for the perfect side to the burger. Such a delicious burger! The "OHV Special" just might be the best burger in the Mojave Desert! Talk about "comfort food..." ... one bite into the burger and I was rewarded with a taste sensation, as the meat-to-bun ratio was perfect and everything worked together to make for a perfect burger. Unlike other burgers, I could taste the cheese, which complimented the meat, bun and veggies. I noted the meat, bun and cheese were hot, and the veggies were cold, which truly makes for a burger sensation. The burger was juicy, flavorful and the Thousand Island dressing made this an "old school" burger in every way. Slash X Ranch Cafe serves an amazing burger! As an aside, we paid around $36.00 for two burgers, fries and a pitcher of 805 beer, which was certainly reasonable for such a delicious meal. If you're a fan of off-road recreation, and you enjoy good food, great people and good times, and cold beer, park your bike, Jeep or quad in front of Slash X Ranch Cafe and enjoy a cold beer or two and one of the best burgers you'll find in the Mojave Desert. Found this random place out of nowhere for lunch on our way to Utah & it did not disappoint! Staff were very friendly, good service, attentive, & ambience had a cool vibe. This is a popular pit stop for people in the area who are riding. Food: My husband ordered a burger which was just okay in my opinion. I ordered the chicken strips with fries. Awesome stop that we had not planned on, but wanted a coffee at 4pm on a Saturday. As you can imagine, everyone else is queuing up for beer, but they very kindly brewed us a fresh pot. It's a place with a great vibe--a dive bar with real heart and as you will notice, an absolutely beloved and essential provider of services to bikers and quad runners. I went to this place a few weeks ago after a desert motocross race and surprisingly the food was great! For being a bar/restaurant in the middle of the desert I was really surprised with the quality of the food. Although the food was good the interior could use some repair. By looking at the place I felt like the building was falling apart and could use some repair. It was also quite a bit dusty inside. some of the indoor dining furniture is ripped to the point were the stuffing is coming out. besides that everything else is great. The service is excellent and the food came out in less than ten minutes. The outdoor patio is really unique and exquisite. I got a burger and fries and it was by far the best to desert standards. Camped behind Slash X for a Jeep event. There was plenty of room and they had ports potties throughout the camping area. Grabbed a couple beers and some fresh pickled eggs the first night. This was an overnight camping spot for us. We parked in a large, open and very dusty parking lot behind the restaurant. Plenty of space to maneuver our 30' rig but we did find many contractor nails in the lot as we walked to the restaurant. Let's get this straight from the beginning, Slash X is a dive. If you check in here and Yelp asks, "Is this place divey?", you HAVE to answer yes. That said, I love this place. As you pull in to the dirt parking lot, if it's a busy weekend it looks like a scene from Mad Max. Dirt bikes, quads, side by sides, race trucks, and duallys line up parked alongside random Honda Civics. The human clientele is just as diverse. The decor is a nice mix of mad max meets country western, with a little bit of odd kitsch thrown in. The food is actually a step above your standard bar food, not a big step, but an important step. It seems to be fairly relaxed overall. We were in this time on Saturday afternoon after thanksgiving, which is a big weekend in the area, and almost all the tap handles had plastic cups over them indicating the beer was out. Not good. There was a long line for food but it was moving pretty fast. We have had breakfast here other times and had quick service, but Saturday afternoon on one of the biggest weekends of the year is going to be slow. There is a huge outdoor area with lots of tables and this afternoon a guy singing requests. He was actually pretty damn good! Except when my daughter asked him for a Chris LeDoux song he didn't seem to know who we were talking about. After him singing some good George Strait and Garth Brooks I thought he would know Chris LeDoux...sigh. He was really good though! Slash X is an icon in the off road community. If you're rolling through Barstow on the way to Vegas, take a quick detour and have some tacos and beer. Hell, splurge and get yourself a t-shirt! Don't come here expecting fancy but definitely stop in and check them out. Slash X gets 5 stars for originality and character. read more

We stayed in our RV in the huge parking area out back as a member of Harvest Host. Went into the cafe at about 4:40 to grab a cold beer and dinner. Food arrived promptly, both grilled chicken sandwich and JC Melt (patty melt) were delicious. After finishing I asked if they get busy on Friday nights and he said "oh we closed at 5". He never once made us feel rushed to finish our meals. Just beware, hours posted online aren't correct. They showed them open until 11pm. read more
