I am partial to the OG Tommy's on Rampart in LA but if you blindfold me, cover my ears, and hand me one these glorious, messy, flavorful chili and cheese burgers with a side of those yellow chili peppers, HERE at this Tommy's....well, I would think I was on Rampart and Beverly!!! The original Tommy's didnt even serve fries or shakes but here they do. And they are delish. Plus, there aren't crazy lines but i think that was part of the OG experience. Never been here before?? It's a nostalgic treasure and a taste adventure ONLY if you love chili. It's intentionally messy, complimentary flavorful, and simply old-fashioned. I award "Tommy's" Five Stars for several reasons. 1. Consistency- I've been a regular before most of you even knew Tommy's existed. And during all that time, their chili burger has not changed. It still has the same flavor (over the decades) that it does right now. 2. Their grilling method has not changed. 3. The Staff is efficient and courteous. 4. At some of their locations, there is indoor and outdoor seating. 5. Their serving time is reasonable. And much more. People go there for one simple reason: It's a good chili burger that satisfies the gut. Most likely, you won't be disappointed. read more

The food was what you expect from Tommy's. What I didn't expect was the restrooms looking like a truck stop restroom. Black mold growing around the toilet and the floor tiles. The sink needed a good scrubbing. Yet it looks the same in the lobby. Dirty floor tiles with black mold. Same mold underneath the soda machine's drain tube and gnats flying around the drain and soda machine. This place needs a hazmat cleaning. read more

It's like local fast food. Idk. Sure it was a chili burger. Maybe I should get the chili dog. Realistically, I just shouldn't do either. We waited for 12 minutes and we were the only ones in line. Fresh fries? Nope. Freshest burger? Nope. Also didn't get the order right. Had the two things my wife excluded. I think my burger was chili rolled. See pictures. Don't waste your time going through drive-through. I must've sat there for a good 5 to 10 minutes.. yes in a drive-through. The double cheeseburger that I ordered didn't have as much chili as I remember it. The hamburger patties were so small and thin It reminds me of that commercial where is the beef? Very few fries considering I paid $4.50 for them. What a waste.. read more

Cincinnati style Chili on everything. If you've been locked into In-N-Out burgers while driving through LA and want something different then stopping by Tommy's should at least be done once. This location is conveniently located next to ARCO so you can fill up both your gut and your gas tank. - Burgers over chili dogs. - You have to ask or those yellow peppers, they don't have them out on the floor like In-N-Out. read more

What a disgusting establishment from top to bottom. The food looks like what I would imagine what people get in prison, firstly. Secondly, the service is awful. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and encountered the cashier that worked there. Short lady with glasses. She looked like she hated life. Ordered and got the food, and asked for chili peppers. She walked over two steps, saw the container with the DIRTY tongs sitting INSIDE the pool of chili and its liquid. She then stuck her bare fingers (the one that just touched the register, my credit card, counter, etc) and fished out the tongs and then proceeded to serve me the chili peppers--with stink face. I asked for a small cup to take with me so that I could put condiments and ketchup in it. She looked at me as if I were stupid and scoffed. I told her I'll be happy to pay for the cup if its a trouble. She smirked and said okay. "that'll be $4.90"...for an empty cup. AN empty cup. Respect to all people in the service industry, so there is no reason to bash the people that work there but this particular woman needs to find something else to do-- maybe something that doesn't require you to deal with people OR their food. I hope you have a horrible day. read more

Came here to eat dinner, the place was empty , due to Covid 19 I assume. Bathrooms were clean and the area. The food was good, it is a little bit pricey, loved the customer service, and they took pre cautions with the corona virus by having all lids and condiments behind the counter which I liked, they had plenty of napkins and hand santizer made me feel safe read more

I love Tommy's. Have since i discovered it in college. This particular one in Ventura.....hmmm. The last three times I have been here, there was a young gentleman working. Kinda small with glasses. First time he was on a break, but was on a personal call in the seating area. He was VERY loud and rude to whoever was on the other line. I figured he was having a bad day. Next time I came he was working the counter. Oh my. He was rude and rolled his eyes when people couldn't figure out what they want. His voice tone was just rude! So today I come in again for a craving of chili cheese fries and a breakfast burrito. While ordering, I hear him on the phone again in the seating area. I'm sorry, but we really don't need to hear your phone calls. O read more

This is close to but not quite the Original Tommy's found in Los Angeles. The L.A. Tommy's was wild and sloppy with chili leaking out of it. The burgers my wife and I picked up were ok but a tightly wrapped hamburger far from the Original. Tommy's like most things has morphed onto several stores perhaps franchises. French fries can't match Mickey Dees or In N Out. Barely cooked. Maybe their hot dogs are better. Worth another try. Cooks need to up their game. Nice clean venue with lots of parking. Just a little disappointing. The older I get the more things become disappointing. read more

The burger meat doesn't have much flavor and neither does the chili. I honestly couldn't tell what was in the chili because of how liquidy it was. I couldn't even tell if it had beans or meat. I prefer to have a chili and be able to tell what is actually in the chili. Overall the burgers don't have much flavor and you won't be satisfied after eating it trust me. read more

Went years ago and didn't love it... Went more recently after a family member recommended it...it was decent. 3 Stars for the food and one star for kind service! I went twice. I like when the chili is hot, not lukewarm! The chili dog with chesse and raw onion is satisfying and very filling! The fries are delicious too. Visited the Tommy's in Ventura, CA on 8/11/22 around 12:45 pm. The service was terrible. The food was even worse. I ordered a chili dog...the chili was horrible and I couldn't find the wiener. I also ordered cheese fries that cost close to $5. I got 10 fries and it looked like they spit the cheese on the fries. I will never go back to Tommy's. It is the worst. I don't even want to give 1 star. $20 bucks down the drain. World's famous shifty food. read more

The first I ever went to Tommy's was back in the early 90s in LA, it was okay, then again early 2000s was not impressed. This time I was to the point of Hangry. We didn't know the area, but knew we had seen a Tommy's along the freeway. We found it and hoped it would be okay if anything good. My burger was awful, The beef patty was thin and maybe 3/4 the size of the bun. Like the song kinda says and the "beef taste like wood" The burger had no lettuce,that's the way they serve them. The chili beans were good on the burger. My daughter her husband and their kids, do not like chili beans so they ordered them plain, they came with a slice of tomato onion cheese mustard, the basics. My daughter ordered a hotdog with chili beans, as did my grandson unfortunately the hotdog was the worst tasting hotdog I have ever tried. My grandson did not even eat his, my daughter ate a few bites. I don't know what kind of hotdogs are used but I've had better at ampm. It's unfortunate how can you ruin a burger or a hotdog? Especially when you over charge for a burger. This is probably my first very negative Review I've ever written. Sorry but not sorry. Another family came in at about six people, I wonder how they like their meal?I should have complained I should've just taken all the food back but if that's what they serve, could they have done anything about it? All I know is we will never be at a Tommy's burgers again. No pics of any thing good. read more

Perfect for a late night snack if you're craving something greasy and satisfying with just enough guilt to hate yourself a little afterwards but not too much guilt that you wouldn't do it again! I love that the chili here is bean-free. I love chili and I hate beans and it's also hard for me to find a chili place that can satisfy those criteria. But all in all, this is a fast food joint and therefore, it gets a 3 star for A-OK! read more

I'd like to give more stars if it were available after I got out of work we headed to Ventura and I asked my wife and we can go to Tommy's and we did my mother in law likes the fries and hot dogs and burger my wife likes the California classic myself I usually get a double or triple quarter pound beef and if I haven't I'm thanking the franchise for bringing back Pepsi as my wife and I are Pepsi drinkers when I moved to Santa Barbara from Los Angeles I missed Tommy's but when one opened in Ventura I was ecstatic now I have not far to go for one read more

It's becoming all-too-clear to me that my waist is getting larger and it's become more of a challenge to fit into my Levi jeans. I have only places just like this to thank. Now I realize that I don't have to order the largest combo on the menu, Tommy's Mega Combo ($10.35), but it sounded so good that I just couldn't exercise dietary control. In case you're wondering, the Mega Combo includes a triple chili cheeseburger (950 cal.), large chili cheese fries (530 cal.), and an extra large fountain beverage (300 cal.). I don't know about you, but I'm going to do my best to limit my visits until my waist size gets under control. read more

People either LOVE Tommy's or HATE it.... I was raised in LA, so I have been eating Tommy's since I was a little kid. My grandmother used to take me to the original Tommy's on Rampart, when it was a little burger stand on the corner. I remember you would stand in line, go through and tell the cooks what kind of burger you wanted.. then you moved on to the bags of potato chips, then the soda cooler, where they had grape soda, cola, root beer, etc... in cans. The original Tommy's had no fries. By the time you got to the end, your food was ready. Years later, Tommy's was the place to go for a "drunk burger" after partying in LA. The location in Oxnard opened a couple of years ago.. when I saw the sign, I was drooling for months, until they opened. Most people I talked to in Ventura had never heard of it..... Ok, enough about me. If you're not from LA and you have never had Tommy's before, you might be in for a surprise. The burgers are sloppy and greasy and messy... BUT FRICKIN GREAT. You will need to grab lots of paper towels from the dispenser before you sit down to eat. The burger patties are thin, the chili is thick and greasy and they put a fat ass slice of fresh tomato on top. All this equals = around 1200 calories of pure evil sin :) So worth it though. Give it a try.... Definitely a "gut bomb" but to me.... it's disgustingly delicious read more

The last time I had a Tommy's Double Cheeseburger w/ Chili was 1984. My best buddy was at USC, and I came in for a wknd road trip from a much better PAC 10 school (ASU). Anyway, after a night of partying, it was a midnight run to Tommy's. Questionable neighborhood and instant heartburn aside, damn good drinking grub! Fast forward several decades, and I return, albeit in a safer neighborhood and sober. Nonetheless, the burger hasn't changed, and the hallmark remains the chili . . . damn tasty. Free soda if you pay with cash. We had cash and our dishes were about $16 . We left tip. Parking can be difficult.

i've been to tommy's in the past, but hadn't been in a while,not sure why, but i stopped in when i was traveling south on the 101 thru ventura, and spotted this on right off the victoria st. off ramp. god.. i love that chili. i got a breakfast burrito and a coke. it was awesome, i'm still kinda sweaty.. a little light headed, yum! can't wait for the drive home and another stop. tommy... just the original will do!!! read more

Tommy's in Ventura is pretty good. I would give them a few weeks because they just opened. So they are in too much of a hurry to get stuff ready because the place is packed. The drive thru and parking situation sucks so be prepared to wait in line for a while. The chili is the same like the other Tommy's around LA and stuff. I give it a 4 out of 5 stars. Makes me wish Top Hat in downtown Ventura was open again! read more

Nasty, vile, disgusting. We stopped in there not knowing what the place was and will NEVER stop by again. I could of oiled my van with the grease from my burger alone, the chili looked and tasted like mud. They used processed cheese slices melted in a microwave over the fries and call that cheese fries. They were served in a brown bag and reminded hubby of fries he had as a kid. The fries were hot, salty, and weren't perfect looking. The taste was perfect. There was so many fries that we took some home. 1 order and we had leftovers! The next morning, Hubby cooked them with a bit of bacon grease and we ate them as a breakfast side. So clever! There are free peanuts to eat while you wait. That was fun. I used the app Upside to score 26% cash back. (My referral code is Diann7256) I will be back. As I was perusing the menu, I appreciated all of the hamburger and shake add-ons that you can get for free. Yes, a milkshake may be in my future from Five Guys. So then when I finally went to the register that was where my food was. And it was a quick and easy trip and I ate the rest of my sub back at home. I can't wait to try some of their other subs! Definitely a cold place and lots of different options than your usual Subway or other sub sandwich places.
