Initially had a problem when I went there on Good Friday wrote a bad review, within 24 hours the manager contacted me explain the situation apologize for the disrespect ,and resolve the issue. First and foremost let me say that, this is NOT a Boudreaux's copycat! Orleans has them beat by a landslide (And I'm a regular at Boudreaux's) Orleans not only offers more food options, but the food is also a lot better. Before Saturday, I'd only picked up food to go and it's still been amazing. On Saturday, my mom and I decided to dine in. We sat at one of the tables in the bar area and our bartender/waitress was Makayla (sc) Makyala was AWESOME! She made great drinks, she was very attentive, gave recommendations, etc. I tried the Apple Rita (patron,apple pucker, grand marnier and sweet & sour) and my mom had a Peach Long Island Tea. They were both really good. As far as food, she ordered fried catfish (it was good and crunchy, which is a plus) I ordered the blackened chicken royale (chicken breast topped with shrimp and crawfish in a white sauce and it was delicioso) There are so many things on their menu that I can't wait to try. I don't know if it was a bad night or the fact that I got it to go but this was disappointing. I got pasta St. Charles and green beans with bacon. The pasta was a child size portion with one small slice of sausage and 2 shrimp and no crawfish. The green beans with bacon had one tiny piece of bacon and was soggy. For the price I paid I expected more than a single piece of sausage, 2 shrimp and a soggy piece of bacon that was the same size of penny. The charbroiled oysters were so good, much like the ones we had in New Orleans. The fish was flaky & tender & the crawfish tails & friend shrimp were awesome! I'm super picky about cocktail sauce & tarter sauce & both were on point! We also ordered bar drinks and they had a good amount of liquor in them. I went to enjoy some crawfish with my family. It took about 10 minutes to receive our food after we stood in line to order.While we was eating we discovered a bug (looks like a roach)inside our crawfish. The manager said that it's a bug because they're bottom feeders and they wasn't cleaned well is what she thinks. This was unacceptable. Poor food & service, last 3 times My latest visit was an oyster po-boy takeout. Black pepper overwhelmed any flavor of oyster. I requested a substitution of coleslaw vs fries in my online order and confirmed the coleslaw substitution when I went inside to pick up my order. When I got home, there was NO coleslaw OR fries. A former comfort food Go-To was their crawfish pistolette which I have gotten as take out many times over years. Deep fried french bread topped with crawfish etouffee, so good. The last time the sauce was really bitter and I've never ordered it again. During crawfish season, I ordered crawfish for takeout. The crawfish tasted like chili (cumin flavored chili) which I wouldn't have minded if I knew they were doing fusion BUT this is a cajun restaurant, not a mexican restaurant, so if you are doing fusion, SAY you are doing fusion. No actually everything was or order just they out one item of someone else's on our tray. Then he said well "Thanks now I have to remake it" uh excuse me. Fried okra: eh...the okra was ok- was looking for the crisp in the batter and it just wasn't there. No flavor to the batter either. Chargrilled oysters: didn't taste much of the char part. Big on flavor-a good hearty meal. Order at the front and free seating. Self service. Started with a full plate of raw oysters. Large size and tasted fresh. Ordered the mahi and rainbow trout plate. Key tip- ask for the jalapeño cornbread instead of the garlic bread. Sooo good. They give you your money's worth of fish. The mahi was meaty and the sauce was perfect and creamy. The rainbow trout was a bit more on the salty side. The dirty rice was too salty. Ask for white rice and mix in some of the extra sauce on the fish for flavor. Warm and inviting ambiance. Pretty darn good, especially after years of not being here. Still as delicious as I remember it. This place is the reason why I became addicted to etouffe in the first place. Prices are pretty reasonable and the menu is large. The way this works... you order in line, they give you a buzzer, you find a table, and when the food is ready, they will buzz you to come get your food. Pretty simple! They have a bar, but not sure how the drinks are as I didn't order a drink. Honestly, I didn't even know they had a bar the very first time I went. I just saw it recently. If you're looking for the non-nonsense, I just want to eat some tasty Cajun dishes and not pay for the fancy service, then you've come to the right place. The Seafood Gumbo, the Fondue, the oyster Salad and the fried dishes are just some of my favorites. Quantity and Quality is definitely above par when it comes to how much you pay for it. I compare it to Pappadeaux (a local Cajun seafood hotspot with a higher price point) without all the service and fancy fish dishes). I can't believe I never gave this place a review before. We frequented Orleans weekly for years, we felt like family. The owners and staff always made us feel welcome and greeted us warmly. More than that, the owners treated us to sample dishes just to let us try a new item on the menu because we are creatures of habit and ordered the same thing every time. We would take the family on weekend and enjoy date night during the week here. I write this review with the sadness of knowing we can't visit as often as we used to, as we moved away last year. This place deserves nothing less than 10 stars!!! And trust me, I am not the only one in our family who feels this way, from my in-laws to our friends to every one of my immediate family. We loved every dish we tried here, and eventually we tried many. They were always on point!! My favorite: the Seafood Fondue. Start here always. It's so rich and creamy with shrimp mushrooms crawfish etc, just yumm!! They serve it with buttery toasted and freshly made French Bread slices. Our second must-have dish is the fried oysters with dirty rice. They use thin breading and get it crispy without over-frying the oysters so that they are still tender and juicy inside. They serve it with the best dirty rice we have had in Houston/Katy. Everything is flavorful cooked to the right tenderness and served generously. Favorite dish #3 Crawfish Ettoufé, most excellent!! Orleans has the best roux period. It is rich and flavorful. Generous crawfish. Ditto on the best dirty rice. Favorite #4 - Blackened Redfish- Flaky, tasty, difficult to finish the generous portion. Favorite #5-(But worthy of #1 spot) Homemade Cheesecake. Made with Cream Cheese from New Orleans that was unbelievably creamy and just heavenly. Fave #6-Chocolate Cake. Our daughter never visited without having a slice of this cake. It is moist and spongy, you can taste fresh ingredients and no preservatives, uses real chocolate and cocoa! Honorable mentions: Pasta, they have delicious and creamy Alfredo as a base to their Cajun past and their Fettucine. This was our daughters preferred dish before cake. If you've been to New Orleans, you know they have the best Alfredo out there, Orleans managed to bring this to Houston. Fried shrimp and other fried foods. They don't use overly heavy batter on anything, and everything is fried crispy with batter that actually has flavor. You can't go wrong with fried catfish, you will see other patrons ordering this one! Bottom line, if you have not visited--do. Take sone friends. Go there for date night.
