I'm typically never on this side of town but decided to take the drive after hearing a rave review from a friend. The restaurant is very clean, inviting and is really well lit. I sat at a booth near a window because the bar area was full. The bar is not that large but after receiving the food, I don't think the drinks are the main attraction here. After indulging in a Shrimp Brochette, I was floored. The food was presented well (presentation is a must for me), tasted great and was well seasoned (not too salty as some creole dishes are). The prices are a little steep when you factor in that you have to get your own food and there are no wait staff. Overall, the restaurant was clean and the food was delicious. If you want a seat at the bar, be sure to get there early. This is not a cheap lunch so plan accordingly. Not a bad lunch spot if you have a fetish for seafood. I'd visit again. read more

I thought this place was a chain when I walked in. "Crap," I thought. "I wanted to go somewhere unique." Guess what? You are. Orleans Seafood Kitchen is -- at the time of this writing -- only located in Katy, TX, just a few minutes down the road for the only thing Katy is known for: The big goddamn mall. You walk in, grab a menu, and stand in line. Ordering is done at the counter, where you are handed a buzzer that will signal when your food is ready to be picked up. The service style is modeled after fast food. There are cooks, there are counter clerks, and there are bus boys -- everything else is self-service. Where fast food and Orleans Seafood differ is on the plate. Somewhere in the back is a deep fryer in desperate need for a vacation, because most -- I would wager 85 percent -- of the food ordered here is fried. I went with the Big Easy Platter, a smattering of their fried fishy fodder served on a bed of healthy french fries. I also ordered fried okra because my mother raised me right. I had wanted to order the crawfish, but the guy behind the counter told me they are out of season. This is a great sign! If crawfish are out of season, and someone is offering to cook them for you, don't pay for them. I am happy to see as bit of culinary integrity at the Orleans Seafood Kitchen. The okra was bomb. Perfectly crisp and paired well with a chipotle mayo/fry sauce goop. The second time my buzzer went off, I knew it was time to hit the Big Easy. "Oh, shit," was my first thought when I saw the mountain of fried madness waiting for me at the counter. This dish is meant to be shared, or it is meant to be eaten alone in shame. I opted for the latter, mowing down oysters, popcorn shrimp, fired shrimp and catfish with a tasty tartar sauce. I skipped the fries -- I am trying to eat healthy -- so I cannot vouch for them. They served as a garnish for me, prompting me to think of the beastly creature that is capable of wiping clean the Big Easy Platter. Such a creature is destined for a wheezing, sweaty and sluggish extinction. Was it good. Meh. Its about what you could find at any down-home, Southern-style steakhouse -- only there you would have someone refilling your drink and clearing your table. I ordered a cup of Red beans and rice, the Orleans Combo w/ Shrimp Etouffe & Fried Catfish, Jalepeno Cornbread, and it came w/ fries and garlic toast. Here's my take on each item: -Fried Catfish: 2/5 The fish was fried well & decent in size but it was very bland. I'm used to the fish being seasoned before being coated/fried and then seasoned again, but these weren't. It didn't even taste like they were seasoned @all, just coated/fried, I couldn't eat it w/out ketchup. -Shrimp Etouffee: 2/5 This dish wasn't flavorful, which is odd and left me the most dissapointed. All I could taste was the roux, literally. -Garlic toast: 3/5 A little greasy but still really good -Red Beans & rice: 3/5 I can't tell what I'm tasting, and I'm not sure if they added roux to this dish or what but it has a different taste than I was expecting. The cashier was quite nice and helpful Pasta St. Charles: 1/5- pretty disgusting and no way tasted like alfredo. The sauce tasted like sink water and the shrimp was not fresh and had a nasty taste Seafood fondue: 2/5- look good but seafood did not taste fresh and left a bad after taste. The whole dish had a fishy smell leaving a bad aroma fried alligator: 4/5- they had the dinner plate but I ordered the appetizer plate, which was a very small plate with little pieces and i didn't expect that but other than that the fried alligator itself was good and the seasoning was perfect Crawfish po boy: 4/5- never had fried crawfish before and this was my first time so I thought it was really good. The sandwich bread was a little cold/not crunchy and a bit dry but nothing tartar sauce added on couldn't fix Fries and onion rings: 4/5- crunchy and seasoned well Crawfish etouffee: (4/5)- a bit salty but not overly, I thought it tasted good with a bit of a kick to it. Was looking for some authentic Cajun pasta dinner entrees to accommodate 4 adults for take out. Our go to places would generally be Babin's or Pappadeaux, but, due to COVID-19, there were only limited menu items being offered and our regular pasta dishes weren't available to order. So, after a bit of research on Yelp, and reading all the positive reviews, we decided to give this place a shot. I know I'm going against the grain here but, I gotta be honest. We ordered the Pasta St. Charles, the Pasta Baton Rouge, Jambalaya Pasta, chicken gumbo, and fried pickles. We were all left highly disappointed. We all really had high hopes for this place and perhaps our expectations were set a bit too high. I mean this place is named Orleans Seafood Kitchen after all, isn't it? We were expecting to be wowed by a delicious, authentic, and spicy New Orleans recipe that would knock us off our feet. What we actually received was mushy pasta with bland pseudo sauces... Absolutely no flavor whatsoever. We were utterly gobsmacked, I mean seriously? There's just no excuse, there's hundreds of delicious and authentic recipes available online. Heck, I've made several killer Cajun pasta dinners with recipes from Pinterest! Moving on, the fried pickles arrived limp, soggy, and completely inedible. I'm giving 2 stars for the chicken gumbo which was the only thing we ate that was so-so. Unfortunately, it's a thumbs-down for us and we don't recommend this place for any of the pasta entrees. Gosh, I'm a sucker for fried food! Cajun and fried food, even better! Everything we order here was really good, except the gumbo was a bit on the salty side. But still really good. I didn't have such a pleasant experience with fried aligator before, but this place changed my mind! That was the best dish of the night and now I'm hooked. At first glance I wasn't sold on the place. There was a heavy aroma of all things fried and gaudy decorations. There is a counter in the front of the restaurant where you can order or if you walk around to the right there is a full service bar. Jose took great care of us at the bar and exceeded my expectations. He was friendly and engaged with each of his guests. We started with the oysters on the half shell which are a bargain at $9/dozen. Sweet, tender and fresh from the gulf. Boiled crawfish are phenomenal with a perfect amount of spice. They are still small but it is early for the season. You must buy 2lbs and corn and potatoes are $.40 extra. Drink specials are phenomenal. We went tuesday when they were featuring $2 wells. But they do different specials every day. Restrooms and general facility were clean and tidy. Management was visibly present. The only thing I truly did not care for was the gumbo. It honestly tasted like beans. I was born/raised in LA. This was my first time visiting and the atmosphere was very authentic. I ordered the seafood gumbo which was delicious. Next, I had the seafood platter and it was plentiful. I must say, the fried crawfish were so good they tasted like they were fried in butter. My only complaint and for me, it's a 100% deal breaker, is that the stuffed shrimp is not deveined. Therefore , the shrimp's digestive track was still present and that grossed me out. When I cut into my stuffed shrimp and it had not been deveined, I started gagging and had to throw up. I had already taken a bite so I was besides myself. I would think an establishment as fine as Orleans would devein their shrimp. I'm an organ transplant recipient and have a compromised immune system, and I don't eat the digestive track from any animal. Additionally, I doubt anyone would want to eat a shrimp that has not been deveined. Needless, my entire experience was ruined & I was left feeling nauseated. Additionally, it left me wondering about the other items I had eaten/started to eat. If management is interested, I took a picture showing the digestive tract still in the shrimp. No, I will not return. The reason for my visit was to try the food, assess the capacity, parking & establishment's ambiance. The rainbow trout was a little undercooked, not flakey at all. Was covered with a sparse portion of shrimp, lobster meat and pecans (I counted 4 small shrimp). The portion of the fish fillet was a decent size. Their potato salad was the best I've had in a long time. The lunch portion was generous. read more

Note: I am making a review for a visit I made in June 2009: I went on Urbanspoon and saw reviews for the restaurant. Had just moved to the area, so I took a chance. So glad I did! You order your own food, but that is great if you have a big group to avoid paying that expensive gratuity that some restaurants have you pay. The atmosphere is really relaxed and casual with a Orleans/sports bar flare (tv screens all around the restaurant). We came late at night around 8ish and recewived the best service. At the time, the restaurant was relatively new, so they got us hooked on tasting their special sauces for free. The crab meat sauce is devine! (Now, you have to pay to get it since the place has solid business). Prices are portions are really reasonable as well. I really enjoyed my birthday because of dining here back in 2009. read more

I went with the family on a Friday .. it was pretty busy! Being the we evacuated the name of this restaurant made us want to try it! I had chargrilled oysters .. they were DELICIOUS!! The wings could've been cooked more and were nothing special .. the fries were fresh and hot for everyone .. my cousin got the shrimp po boy .. 5/10 it was just okay .. my wife got the seafood platter it lacked seasoning , the 3 small fried oysters they had were cold, and the boudin egg rolls had no flavor. My nephew got a Cobb salad with the blackened chicken and it was great. First off...there was hand sanitizer at EVERY table OKURR! Now..that doesn't mean I used it because it was a little sus but I appreciate the effort during a pandemic..I still went to the restroom to wash my hands and that too was clean. Being from Louisiana, I rarely eat at places that serve the same type of food I can make better at home. This place confirmed my sentiments. A friend and I arrived at 7:00 on a Saturday. The line was incredibly long, weaving through the dining area, but moved fairly quickly. After ordering, the food also arrived timely. A lot of yelpers seem to be addressing the service. As an order and sit/pick-up type of establishment, I didn't see where "service" issues could arise. However....the food was bland and extremely underwhelming. The shrimp etouffee was not seasoned at all. No salt, no pepper....nothing...just bleh. The crawfish pistolettes were saved by the fried bread. Honestly, the garlic bread was the best part of the whole meal. :/ If you are into frozen daiquiris, you might enjoy the bar. read more

I was craving oysters so we decided to try this place out. The oysters were okay, a little milky, but pretty cheap compared to other seafood restaurants. Every time we order ceviche, it's cold (or at least cool) but this one came out room temperature, which wasn't refreshing. The crab fingers were good but some were way too dry and overcooked. The grilled chicken was okay, nothing special. The side broccoli wasn't cut up into smaller pieces which we would have preferred. Overall, just okay. Initially had a problem when I went there on Good Friday wrote a bad review, within 24 hours the manager contacted me explain the situation apologize for the disrespect ,and resolve the issue. The platters are stuffed with plenty to satisfy your appetite (my favorite on the platter is the stuffed shrimp) however if you really want a treat try the soft shell crab po boy! First and foremost let me say that, this is NOT a Boudreaux's copycat! Orleans has them beat by a landslide (And I'm a regular at Boudreaux's) Orleans not only offers more food options, but the food is also a lot better. Before Saturday, I'd only picked up food to go and it's still been amazing. On Saturday, my mom and I decided to dine in. We sat at one of the tables in the bar area and our bartender/waitress was Makayla (sc) Makyala was AWESOME! She made great drinks, she was very attentive, gave recommendations, etc. I tried the Apple Rita (patron,apple pucker, grand marnier and sweet & sour) and my mom had a Peach Long Island Tea. They were both really good. As far as food, she ordered fried catfish (it was good and crunchy, which is a plus) I ordered the blackened chicken royale (chicken breast topped with shrimp and crawfish in a white sauce and it was delicioso) There are so many things on their menu that I can't wait to try. The topping was good though. 2/5 - Fried alligator (with fries): You could taste the alligator and the breading wasn't overpowering. Could care less about the fries. 3.5/5 - Pasta St. Charles: I liked this! It had crawfish, shrimp, and sausage. Flavorful! 4/5 - Crawfish étouffée with dirty rice: This was actually pretty good! But my opinion isn't valid because it was my first time having it. 3.5/5 - Fried catfish: Hubby really enjoyed this a lot. It was so meaty, moist, and flavorful. The breading wasn't too thick. I don't know if it was a bad night or the fact that I got it to go but this was disappointing. I got pasta St. Charles and green beans with bacon. The pasta was a child size portion with one small slice of sausage and 2 shrimp and no crawfish. The green beans with bacon had one tiny piece of bacon and was soggy. For the price I paid I expected more than a single piece of sausage, 2 shrimp and a soggy piece of bacon that was the same size of penny.
