We came as a group of 9 and while the food and ambience was great, the service was odd. The server brought out an extra dish of pasta, and didn't let us know until we asked each other who ordered it. Luckily no one had eaten it yet. They told us we would need to pay for it if we wanted to eat it, which was strange and questionable customer service (especially since we were the ones who noticed the mistake). I had a wonderful experience at Oro in downtown Colorado Springs. First off - the food is absolutely worth it. Highly recommend the Pappardelle Lamb Ragù; it is a spicy pasta dish and has the most incredible flavor. I also ordered the asparagus & arugula - yikes on the deviled-egg-adjacent topping but the rest of the dish was delicious & pairs beautifully with the pasta. They offer focaccia on the appetizer menu which was delightful; however, it was cold by the time my pasta arrived. I recommend asking it to be served with the entree if you plan to eat warm bread with your pasta. One thing I would like to note - the bar is too tall for petite ladies with the seating offered. Every single woman at the bar had to lift their elbows to their shoulders in order to reach things in front of them. I found it exceptionally difficult to eat my dinner & had to transfer food from my dinner plate to a tiny plate in order to hold it and eat over my lap. I'm not sure if they paired counter height (36") stools with a bar height (42") bar or what went wrong, but I recommend sitting at a table to eat and drinks only at the bar for ladies. Lastly - ambiance and service are excellent. The venue is well lit, spacious and beautifully adorned. Service is top notch. Natalie was very attentive and polite and made the night fantastic. Picked this spot to catch up with the girls and we appreciated the servers patience with us because we were just chattin' it up and took forever to order. Food was great! That focaccia bread was baked fresh so it was both soft inside and crispy outside. They did their best at deboning the fish but watch out around the neck and edges where the fins would have been, there were some bones. Fish can be eaten with the skin, which I usually dont but it was crispy. The mussels were a small variety but were very tasty. It was my first time trying carpaccio and it was ok. I like the thin slices vs minced when in tartar. It was beautiful albeit a bit too quiet, no music or anything. Also, it smelled really weird in there! We were staying at the Mining Exchange Hotel, and this restaurant is attached to it, so we went there for our first night. FOOD: Large portions, rich and tasty eats. My wife had the buffalo carpaccio, which she enjoyed, along with a yummy bolognese pasta. I had the caesar salad (which was oddly sweet but good) and the lamb ragu pasta. We also ordered a focaccia starter, which was enough for four people (but useful for sopping up the sauce from the pasta bowls). Absolutely stuffed, with no room for dessert. The cocktail menu looked decent, but we had already had more interesting drinks from the Golden Hour next door. The wine list is largely Italian and both extensive and expensive. The by-the-glass wines are reasonably priced either as glass or bottle. SERVICE: It was a Tuesday night, so not terribly busy. Our waiter, Spencer, was attentive and helpful. His suggestion for wines were expensive, but when we ordered a less pricey one he suggested an alternate of that varietal which was a bit less (and was quite good). Food was delivered promptly. All was as ordered except that the Caesar was missing the promised croutons (which, to be fair, I didn't notice until I was half finished). AMBIANCE: Quiet, upscale and simple. It certainly didn't distract from the food. VALUE: The prices are high, objectively, but the quality and quantity make up a lot for that. NET-NET: Definitely worth visiting for a special occasion or a serious date -- and =either when staying at the MX, or as a destination itself. It was date night and I've been hearing so many good things of this place, so I took my chance and chose this place. Made a reservation thought their Instagram page and they have many different available times. As we arrived, we were greeted by the hostess. She had us sit in their little waiting area (since we arrived a bit early) and meanwhile we admired the place. The place is nicely decorated in a minimal, yet elegant way ( with lots of gold accents, hence the name). They have a gorgeous bar inside, and it looked like and adjacent bar outside. The time came to sit on our table and we got greeted by our very profesional, and attentive server (if only I could remember her name, maybe Rachel). She gave excellent service. Onto the yummy part: To start we got the burrata with green Pueblo Chile and some focaccia. The bread was tasty the burrata was good but nothing out of this world. As a main dish I got the risotto and that was sooo sooo good. My partner got the Branzino (whole fish from head to tail, but they remove the spine) he said it was really good. I dared him to eat the eyes but he couldn't do it (can't blame him, it looked fishy ). And as a grand finale we went for the tiramisu. This was the only dish that I didn't enjoy the presentation, but don't let that fool you. This has probably been one of the best tiramisu I've ever tried (chefs kiss). Oh how can I forget the cocktails we ordered. I had the Fleur de Lis and it was refreshing and bold. He had the Fumo Rosso, a mezcal based smoky deliciousness. Pros: Nice, enticing Italian-inspired menu. Décor is sleek and inviting. Service was fine, efficient. Cons: We ordered the 1/2 roasted chicken and the spring risotto. The chicken was dry and the green sauce was sour/tangy. Tasted like it had too much vinegar in it. The risotto was pricey for being a vegetarian dish with not much in it. Also, it was relatively bland -- a little salt would have gone a long way. The focaccia bread with basil butter was good, as was the arancini appetizer. No complaints here. This place was the best of both worlds for me and my Girlfriend. She wanted spaghetti and I wanted a nice dish with meat. When we arrived we noticed that it was in a beautiful location next to the Miners Exchange hotel which was really cool. The place looked even prettier on the inside. We had an 8:45pm reservation so we walked in and we were seated very quickly. The bartender greeted us and got us started with water and drinks which were recommended by the bartender. He also got us started with the food as well since we knew what we wanted. I am bad with remembering the names of the drinks but it was a local beer and he made a drink for my girlfriend that was a brand new drink that they had begun serving. Our food arrived shortly after and she said her spaghetti was amazing and she is very particular about it since that is her favorite dish, my lamb shank that I ordered was delicious as well and it was literally falling off of the bone which I love to see. One thing that impressed me is that the Bartender and the waitress and pretty much every staff member working that night definitely showed how experienced they were because they worked as a team and made the entire experience so smooth. After discussion and debate over what to try while in town, we settled on Italian at Oro. Made a reservation for a relatively large party (8). We arrived and we're promptly seated. We started off with a bottle of wine, and were recommended one based on the profile I was looking for. It was called Nebbiolo, and it was exactly what we were looking for! I was feeling pasta that night, so I tried the Spaghetti Aglio e Olio and it hit the spot. Pasta was cooked perfectly, and it seemed like one of their lighter dishes. Oro, top Italian spot in Colorado Springs!! Firstly, my wife and I went to Oro tonight for the first time for her birthday. The reservations were very easy to make with plenty of availability. I called ahead of time to let the staff know about my wife's birthday and asked for a special dessert. The overall service was absolutely amazing with staff who clearly cared about their job. In particular Ryan was one of the best waiters I have ever experienced. In regard to food service it was very quick and impressive. The food was spectacular from the appetizers, main courses and desserts. Also, thank you to Oro for the on the house birthday desserts. Amazing new Italian restaurant in town! We went for our anniversary dinner and are glad we did. The service was very good, there was a mistake with our order but it was rectified quickly and we only waited a few minutes for our entree to arrive. Food wise it's delicious. Some highlights were the bison carpaccio so thinly sliced and flavorful with everything else. There's a hint of spice with it that adds to its depth. I think my favorite dish of the night was definitely the pappardelle pasta with lamb ragu. It is AMAZING!! Enough said. The arancini were also some of the best I've ever had. Grilled broccolini was pretty good though it lacked a bit of salt and acid. I'd say if you're looking for a great Italian spot with a nice ambience this is it. The dining room is comfortable and aesthetic. We enjoyed all the food. Pictured- Linguine Tricolore, Spaghetti and Meatballs, Gigante Beans, Asparagus and Arugula, Housemade Gelato and Pizzelle, and Limoncellos. Much like others have said, it was mixed bag but there were some standout dishes. Pros: The ambiance is stunning. The decor is truly gorgeous. The bison carpaccio, arancini, lamb parpadelle, and tiramisu were phenomenal. Best arancini and tiramisu I've ever had. Concerns: Like others have said, at this price point, it's just weird that the pacing was so off. We got pushed into ordering apps before we could even get drinks, and we had to flag down someone else to order cocktails after we had been there for at least 20 minutes. Had to flag down someone else to get wine because our waiter (who was super nice and friendly) was busy sweeping and cleaning other tables to pay attention to us and realize our drinks were empty for quite some time. Food notes-The carpaccio, despite being amazing, really needs to come with some little toasts or something like that. I kept hearing that the focaccia is awful so if you get the burrata or carpaccio, there's nothing decent to accompany it. My chicken was actually suuuuuper good, but it's bizarre because it doesn't come with a starch. It's just half a chicken and some peppers. The sauce was really acidic and super tasty, but it literally looks like sewage. Super unappealing looking plate which is weird because the other dishes were gorgeous. read more

I'd start out by saying there are a lot of 5 star reviews for Oro. I know I'm a tough reviewer, but the at the price point, staff knowledge and food this is not a five star experience. It's fine but not at the level of del lago (broadmoor) or casano (north springs). It was ok but not outstanding. While I'm still bummed with the loss of Springs Orleans (I think we now don't have anything similar?)... anyway 4 of us were excited to check it out. The did I nice remodel. Reminds me a little of the famous with the booths. We had reservations (made more than a week earlier). The hostess first led me to a table right in line with the hallway to the kitchen and restrooms (while there were many open booths elsewhere. I said no and we got a booth). I first think they should keep the less desirable tables for walk-ins. Anyway got seated.. I had a martini as I beat the rest of the party. I saw alley mentioned in another review as a server. While she tried to be attentive, when we asked questions it seemed we had a bit of a language barrier. She was nice and attentive, when we pushed on questions it seemed difficult to get responses.i asked about the lamb ragu. It's described as with chili. I tried to get more info and that was a fail. I like heat, but was not in the mood for to much tonight. When it came it had some heat with chili oil showing on the plate, It would have been way to hot for my wife. Not so for me, but not something I was in the mood for..I was disappointed that our server was unable to articulate the spiciness. Others were OK with their plates not outstanding but OK. We had the focaccia appetizer. it was OK. Two good sized triangles of focaccia it was OK but just not exceptional and I love fresh bread/focaccia I like Italian wines a lot, so I was excited about the menu. But the menu is confusing. If you don't know Italian wise, it would be very confusing (I think) for me even some of it was confusing and the server could not clarify, so I asked for the som. A person came who was not really a som, but the beverage rep or something like that. She was helpful and explained the confusion part of the menu. She also acknowledged that it was not clear overall I ended up disappointed with the menu because of that. (I saw something that I thought would be really fun turned out it was not really part of the menu/wine list) So with four people two bottles of wine two cocktails something over $400 a high price point for not bad but OK But as I have said before if you got this far in my review, you get five stars! read more

We had a mixed experience at Oro. Going into it, I knew to expect some service hiccups as I had read other reviews. I am here to report that they are 100% correct. Here's what Oro did well, could improve, and failed miserably at. The good: The ambiance was spot on. Upscale decor, not too loud or dark inside, and friendly staff. I was impressed when we walked in. The food was also delicious. We had some olives to start, then pasta bolognese, branzino, and spicy broccolini with Calabrian chilies. The broccolini was the star, I don't understand how it was seasoned so well! The branzino was also phenomenal (one of the best I've ever had), and the bolognese was spot on. The olives were slightly warmed and a great salty snack to start us off. The bad: As others have noted, the pacing is way off. Things happened too fast, then too slow. For example, we wanted to order a second round of drinks to pair with our dinner but our server was rushing around covering too many tasks. When we finally got his attention to bring us a menu, it was again another few minutes before he returned to order. By the time we got our drinks we had already received our main course. Also he absent mindedly took my wife's wine from the first round before she was done with it. We only realized because he set it at the bar across from our table and we could see a few sips left. Oro has to work on their pacing, it matches the vibe of a Chili's more than a "fine dining establishment" as the hotel next door calls them. The ugly: The broccolini (a dish that was labeled as GF on the menu and was noted for a gluten allergy by our server), came to our table with panko breadcrumbs on it. Again it took me a few minutes to get the attention of our server, who then took a few minutes to identify the issue with the kitchen, who then took another few minutes to bring out a replacement. We were halfway done with our main course when the fixed dish came out. The explanation for the panko was a "last minute" addition by the kitchen. If the dish had not been marked as GF on the menu, I would have understood, but that's not something to mess around with. The staff were very apologetic, however they did not comp the dish. I don't expect that these days, but it would have been nice and in keeping with their "fine dining" image. Overall I would recommend you wait on this restaurant for at least six months. Let them work out the kinks, then come back. read more

However, the Veal Scallopini fell short-bland and tough- and the Sweet and Sour Carrots were disappointing, as they were hard and didn't absorb the sauce as expected. We ended on a high note with the Tiramisu, which we loved. Overall it was a pleasant dining experience that could be exceptional with a couple adjustments. ORO REVIEW: We decided to try this for our Anniversary dinner! The whole experience was AWFUL. Drinks: I got the saffron martini. OMG. might aswell have chewed up some saffron strands. It was BAD. I sent it back after trying to add pineapple juice it was still disgusting. Appetizers: The breadsticks are crackers, the foccasia would have been ok if it wasn't burnt. Entrees: I specifically asked about the ricotta on the Tricolor pasta if it was cooked on the pasta. Is it Hot? Server said it was.. (It's not) Hubby ordered the 20oz porterhouse med rare. We ordered the focaccia for dipping in sauce and that could not happen with so little sauce to begin with. My partner had the penne with bolognese sauce and reported it was nothing special. The 2 sides we ate were broccolini and asparagus with arugula. The asparagus was delicious. The broccolini had hot chilis in it which was unexpected and overwhelmed the taste of the vegetable. First-time dining at ORO and it was an absolute delight! The atmosphere is clean, elegant, and warm--I especially loved the gold accents that made the space feel extra special. From the moment we sat down, Nila G was amazing--she walked us through appetizers, entrées, and desserts with such knowledge and care. Every single one of her recommendations was spot-on! We indulged in: Rigatoni Bolognese Fiori Espresso Martini San Pellegrino Focaccia with Basil Butter Burrata & Pueblo Peppers House-made Gelato & Pizzelle Spumoni Everything was absolutely delicious. Portions were generous too--we even had leftovers! While I personally prefer when food is packaged at the table, Nila kindly took our plates to the back to wrap them.
