It had been a while, but we knew others who had enjoyed their meals recently, so we gave Orta another visit. We started with a few appetizers (arancini and shrimp in a sauce, plus bread service). These were good, the shrimp was a clear hit with our table. A few cocktails were ordered that were strong (this was not a negative, just a precaution). The five of us each ordered a different entree and one thing was consistent with all of them: a heavy hand with salt. Portions were large and everyone went home with leftovers. However, most of these were discarded the next day since the extra salt was even more noticeable. Easy to get to, easy to get a table, good drinks and appetizers. Lots of seats at the bar (although it seemed some customers there were cold despite the double doors designed to keep the frigid winter air away). However, the entrees were such a disappointment that it's unlikely we will return anytime soon. read more

The low rating stems from the following. While , both dishes were very well prepared and presented. I found the overall appearance of the restaurant quite not up to par. Each table had a small vase with flowers in it, and the flowers were dead, and the water was yellow green. I asked to have them removed from my table because I didn't want dead flowers on it a ....restaurant that charges as much as they do for the food should be paying attention to the details of the restaurant. Previous reviews indicated the bathrooms were not up to snuff either. I don't feel I wanna go back to a place that doesn't pay attention to the details of what they are presenting. read more

I have gone often and have never been disappointed. Salmon is great. I have not had a bad meal and the service is excellent.

If you're considering having dinner here - do it! We made a reservation for a Monday evening, and likely didn't need it, as the restaurant was fairly quiet. There's tons of parking, and the restaurant itself is right off of route 3/very easy to get to. We were seated in a booth, which was cozy, but the restaurant has a modern, clean vibe. Our server was lovely, came over right away with menus, and checked in regularly throughout the meal. We started with a baby arugula salad that we split, which was very generously portioned with parmesan, fresh lemon, and tuscan olive oil - while fairly simple, it was delicious and a great start to the meal. For dinner, my fiend ordered the linguine carbonara, which was very generously portioned, with bacon, a poached egg, cream, and peas. I ordered the prosciutto and mozzarella stuffed chicken, which was panko crusted. With a Dijon cream, served over a creamy risotto. It was absolutely delicious. It was so generously portioned, I had this for dinner, and two subsequent lunches (they pack up the leftovers really nicely for you). How can a place with food this good get a three star rating you ask? Well, let me tell you: 1) let's start with the 500% mark up on Wine. While don't mind paying $50 for a bottle of wine I would hope it would not be the same bottle I can buy for $10 retail at a wine store 2) while I don't mind paying $200 for dinner for two, but I prefer it takes more than 60 minutes to serve me the three courses of food which I ate. 3) I don't mind sitting at one of your tiny little tables, except when there are multiple larger tables available that sit empty all night. Is it your desire to make me uncomfortable so I can eat faster because that's not possible 4) your bathroom is disgusting. The bathrooms at McDonald's are Cleaner. That being said the food here is delicious, but not being from the area. I've now figured out why the restaurant a 1/4 a mile up the street has an overfilled parking lot while yours is virtually empty. read more

you're looking for the best gluten-free food on the South Shore, this is the place. I'm honestly blown away by how incredible their gluten-free options are. The gluten-free pizza here is hands down the best I've ever had. The crust is so perfectly crunchy I don't know how they pull it off. You'd never guess it's gluten free. Their gluten-free pasta dishes are just as amazing, with rich flavors and perfect texture. The menu has so many gluten-free choices that it actually feels fun to order, instead of limiting. What makes it even better is that all of my friends who don't have food allergies were just as thrilled with their meals, so it's a win for everyone at the table. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the service is top-notch. Chef Dave himself even came out to greet us and check in, which made the whole experience feel extra personal. Orta has been on my list to try for some time, so when we got consensus on a visit tonight I was excited to explore a new menu. The staff were warm and accommodating when we arrived this Monday evening for an impromptu family night out. We were seated immediately and noticed several nice touches to the decor, including a hand-painted mural in a corner booth. The adults split the cavatelli funghi and the baked gnocchi al forno. Our younger family member had a children's serving of spaghetti and Parmesan sauce. We accompanied our meals with a Second Wind IPA, a house Cabernet, and a child's lemonade. The total bill came to a little over $100. I'd say that the meal was adequate, but unimpressive. We agreed that the cavatelli was the best dish we tried, but both entrees were lacking much in the way of flavor from signature herbs that were highlighted in the dish descriptions, the sage in the case of the cavatelli and the basil in the case of the gnocchi. We both agreed that the dishes also lacked cooking salt. Maybe it was an off night--Mondays aren't always staffed with the most experienced back of house staff. Moreover, we didn't opt for any of the salads, appetizers, or flatbreads that other reviewers have praised. 4 of us had reservations for 6pm on a Friday. There were spots open at the bar and a few empty tables which filled by the time we finished dinner. SERVICE: Alicia is top notch! So pleasant, attentive and not hovering and very knowledgeable of the menu. She really added to the dining experience. FOOD: Caesar salad is fresh and big enough to share. Crispy eggplant had a thin slice on top and one on the bottom and the middle was a generous amount of cheese. The eggplant was crispy and easy to cut, I wish there were a few more pieces. The rigatoni bolognese is very flavorful. The meat is soft, tender and flavorful and the pasta is cooked perfectly. We got a side of 3 meatballs ($12, not on the app/side menu but chef was happy to accommodate) and 2 of us split this with still some leftover to take home. ATMOSPHERE: Well decorated, warm atmosphere. There was a large TV on one wall which displayed the fireplace adding to the comfortable ambiance. The bar is good sized and various tables from intimate of 2 to round table for 8. Well thought out sound panels in the ceiling so even when the restaurant was full, we had no trouble having a conversation. BAR: The wine menu has lots of choices. The wine by the glass is all lower end, but with a price range of what I would expect for a better quality. We had a really good meal! First time trying this restaurant as it's not too close to our home. Super helpful that they take reservations as it was a Sat night. The linguini with peas was delicious, as was the chicken, broccoli, ziti. Even better that they could make it with oil instead of heavy cream. This place is amazing!!! I can't believe I've lived in Kingston for 4 years and never tried Orta. I reserved a table on a Monday night and asked for a quite table in the corner because we had missed our anniversary due to busy schedules. They went above and beyond for us and the chef even gave us a piece of tiramisu for our anniversary. The food was absolutely incredible. The hostess and waitress were so nice. The place is beautiful inside. I can not recommend this place enough. GO TRY ORTA TODAY!!! We will be trying the whole menu. read more

We started dinner by sharing the crispy eggplant, being two fried rounds of panko-crusted eggplant sandwiching a delicious goat cheese spread, surrounding a tasty fresh tomato compote. A great way to start. My companion had Lobster Fra Diavolo over Angel Hair that was generously portioned in a perfectly spicy tomato sauce and the meat of a what seemed like a whole lobster. I had beautifully prepared beef short rib, which was served with delectable gnocchi in a cream sauce. We finished dinner by sharing a perfect Tiramisu. Excellent wine list. I love their food. The tuna tartare and the beef carpaccio appetizers are incredible. A little pricy but they make up for it with the thought put into the ingredient pairing. Made reservations for 5:00. The hostess sits us at this tiny table. We Asked for a booth, she said they were all reserved. (Only one booth became occupied the whole time we were there). Swordfish was Very salty. "Panko crusted Chicken" was not pounded/tenderized it as it was thick and chewy (and wasn't panko, it was reg breadcrumbs) The waitress was very nice and not her fault. The outside looked pleasing and classy but inside was freezing and very bright, wide open, more like a sports bar. No ambiance. For the name and outside appearance you would think it would have some class. The bartender was loud and obnoxious. He was the only one you could hear in the place..and my "mocktini"was in a tall soda glass (not a martini glass). Overall, A disappointment. read more

I arrived to a filthy bar with water rings of glasses from previous customers - handed a laminated menu with food stuck- pointed it out to bar tender - she handed me a second menu with more food - should have cut my losses but again pointed out - now came the attitude! Had a beer and ordered the PEI muscles - in an extremely salty broth and de-shelled. Check please - which didn't come quickly - a large loud party arrived and took over the bar - not my scene- way to loud way to gross - sorry miss Pembroke won't be back here! read more

Delicious! Easy reservation through Yelp. Comfortable atmosphere and great service. Never rushed. Autumn Salad, Crispy Eggplant, Papa al Pomoporo (peasant soup), Ziti and the special Lamb Shank. A nice Sapphire martini before dinner and a glass of red with dinner. We'd go back for the Crispy Eggplant alone. So crispy! Everything was enjoyable and the braised Lamb Shank was a standout dish--tender, drizzled with a flavorful sauce/reduction and set on a bed of super delicious whipped potato. Yum. Compared to our neighborhood Irish pub, our meal at Orta was of much higher caliber and far more interesting and the whole thing was about 30% higher in price. Well worth it. read more

We had an amazing Mother's Day dinner at Orta! It was not crowded since reservations were required. The crispy eggplant appetizer of goat cheese sandwiched between two pieces of eggplant left us wanting more. The Arancini app was delectable also. The spring greens salad was enough for two. A Mother's Day special of lobster stew was creamy, flavorful, and had the most tender chunks of lobster. The sweet soppressata flatbread was an appetizing combination of sweet and savory. Generous portions of chicken, ziti, broccoli, and panko-crusted chicken with spaghetti left everyone too full for dessert. We live down the road and have been a couple times but will not be returning after our experience tonight. We recieved tiramisu COVERED in mold. It was in a to-go container and it was clear enough for me to notice and open the container. The mold was quite literally all over the top- the more concerning part was that they saw this and still cut it and served it. I cannot in good conscience ever go back to a place that would serve that to someone. The server even said the owner was throwing it out however the owner never came to apologize or try to mitigate the situation by refunding us for our bill or simply showing us how sorry they were. Found this thanks to Yelp as we headed to Plymouth. This was our first trip since the start of the pandemic & also out first dine- in experience in a year. Visiting from Chicago we were nervous but we're very please to see all the "must wear" masks & even the the free sanitizing wipes at the entrance. The place is smaller than we anticipated but the ambience is very welcoming & inviting. The hostess was immediately friendly & helped us out right away. While seated at the tables we noticed that no one was wearing their masks at the table but all servers were at all times. We chose to keep on our masks anytime we spoke to our server who was kind, funny, attentive, & offered recommendations. The hubs had a beer on tap & I had the kombucha margarita which was quite strong! I'm okay with that so not a complain! The truffle fries are a must! They come with what we thought was hollandaise sauce or something that tasted like it ... super yummy! The butternut squash ravioli was super tasty as well! Lastly- I had the salmon which I hoped was a little more lemonier but still tasty ! Next time we return, we are very likely to return. A huge disappointment all around. #1 we killed 3 flies at our window - waitress was aware and did not acknowledge when we told her. #2 appetizer. Ordered crispy eggplant. Disgusting. Tasted like old oil. I have no idea what cheese was inside the 2 layers of fried oil, however it for sure was not whipped goat cheese. We did not eat it, told the server and she said "oh ok" and too it away...was on our bill. #3 main course I had the ravioli with peas. Fine. Nothing to write home about. The other person in my group had the baked haddock. It heavily breadcrumbed dish paired with a Mediterranean salad.. not a good pairing. They did not eat the salad. #4 the restaurant honestly still looks like an old Pizza Hut inside. Absolutely will never return. A disappointment from appearance to service to food. It makes sense now how we we able to get a last minute reservation on a Friday night where the other restaurants in the area are full, this place appeared to be at 25% capacity. read more

My wife and I along with another couple had dinner at Orta in Kingston last night. We split the Hummus and Arancini apps. The hummus was a disappointment, just a little spread of hummus and stale bread chips with a few accoutrements. My wife had the mushroom flatbread which she liked and I ordered the beef short rib dish. It was delicious, prepared perfectly. The couple with us had the panko crusted chicken and short rib. Service was slow at times with having to wait for drinks (but maybe that's on the bar and not the server). The service was extremely slow and poor. Requested pepper for salad. Waitress failed to bring it. Ordered a ginger ale. Some type of carbonated water (?) was provided. Had to bring the beverage back to the bar myself because waitress was no where in site. As for my meal, I ordered a roast half chicken. The chicken was extremely over cooked. My husband and I had our very first date at Orta in Pembroke a little over 5 years ago. We were devastated when we heard of their closing, but excited to try out the new Kingston location. We dined at Orta Trattoria on their opening night. We were delighted to meet the owner Cara and share our story with her. The new location has great ambiance as others have described. For starters, I had a delicious Caesar salad. For my main meal, I had the hanger steak with truffle whipped potatoes and crispy onions. Although, I thought the portion size to be a tad on the smaller side...the meal was AMAZING!!! Seriously probably one of the best meals that I've had in a long time. Those truffle potatoes are out of this world! The steak was cooked to perfection. My husband ordered the spicy sausage and banana pepper flatbread, which he also said he enjoyed. Service was wonderful and the gentleman waiting on us was very attentive. For, dessert we split the chocolate torte topped with vanilla ice cream, which was again very tasty. My only negative feedback is that the drinks were very watered down, but as it was opening night... I expect it will only improve. I wish both Cara and Brett much success in their new location. Outstanding. Delighted that my husband finally agreed to go inside a restaurant for the first time since the pandemic hit us. Orta brought back some of its classic and delicious meals like the beet salad with candied walnuts and my favorite, braised short rib with gnocchi. We also had the mussels and we just love the leek broth. Could actually eat it like soup!My husband had the fisherman stew with saffron risotto and it was delicious. We ended with the flourless chocolate cake with vanilla gelato. We can't wait to go back. Our waitress Krista was terrific. Working hard --all the team---to make sure our meal was superb. Well done! We go often and always have a good meal and excellent service. Most often we enjoy the bar.

We have never tried Orta and heard many positive things so thought we would try it for a birthday dinner. The staff are friendly and the is decorated well but so open and cold. We just got a couple of appetizers and pizza and unfortunately it wasn't what we had hoped for the Caesar salad was great, but the short rib pizza with the figs and balsamic glaze had hardly any short rib on it. The short rib was so scant that what was on there dried up and it was extremely hard to chew. And while we understand the challenges with staffing, we were there for two hours for just have some pizza waited 45 minutes for a check. read more
