Love the new look..not so much the new service. Yesterday, my husband and I stopped by and was Informed that 11/22/19 was the donut shops grand re-opening...who knew?! There were no grand re-opening signs or welcoming "Hello, welcome to O's".....as walked in.......nevertheless, we ordered 1 dozen donuts, plus two drinks. Ten minutes later we heard someone yell "hey, you come here".....my husband and I were told the staff had no idea how to make the NEW item on their menu... Vanilla milkshakes...DISAPPOINTING..instead of switching into great customer service mode..... the owners and staff knowingly sold a drink they had no experience with and failed to offer us a different drink due to their lack of knowledge in making milk shakes....my husband ended up with an ice blended drink with milk, vanilla syrup, and vanilla beans...the staff asked my husband to keep trying different versions of the drink until he decided that he would no longer participate... TODAY, we decided to give our favorite donut spot 1 more try....I ordered 1 dozen donuts...I left completely disappointed. The man at the register is not hospitable and does not appear to have customer service knowledge or experience. Sad to say we will most likely not return. Tonight, we received 9 COLD donuts and 3 FRESH donuts. When I walked in I noticed 3 trays of donuts sitting under a heat lamp.....DISAPPOINTING.....I looked over and saw the donut maker grab 6 donuts from the batch of pre-made donuts. Next, the cashier grabbed 3 donuts from the display case, then walked over to where I stood, and sat the box down on the table.... in a state of confusion/disbelief I asked the donut maker whether or not the donuts were made fresh to order ?!...Without batting her eyes she instantly made 3 fresh donuts...totaling 12. I appreciate her effort to try to save a customer by provide excellent customer service..sadly, the change comes with new owners/management.... Typically, my husband and I enjoy a fresh, hot, O's donut on the drive home..today we had to wait until we got home to warm our donuts in the convection oven . Great first impression. read more

I decided to try O's donuts after reading all the reviews. Donuts are as good as they look. They were best warm fresh from the fryer. I am a big fan of yeast donuts but these cake donuts are the best. Not a big fan of toppings on my donuts so I tried to keep it simple. Glazed were my favorite. Os donuts are customizable made to order donuts, i was very impressed with the selection. Ordering was very easy, you choose a glaze and then a topping and voila! The donut itself is a simple cake donut, the flavor isn't impressive , taste like a yellow cake. The donut itself fits in the palm of your hand not very big, could probably munch on three alone. The cake is thick and would be great if you are a donut and coffee dunker. Fell in love with the orange glaze, it smelled and tasted like heaven. The glaze is what sets O's donuts apart from other shops ahem "sad duck face", with over ten different flavors. I am not a fan of the freshly made cake style donut (think fractured prune, not my thing) That said, this place makes some of the most delicious donuts you've ever tasted. This was our first time here and we loved that we essentially got to "build our own" donuts. It starts with a warm cake donut and you choose your toppings. They were fantastic. These donuts make my mouth cry with joy. They're hot and fresh -- you can actually see them cooking right in front of you on a (totally mesmerizing) little assembly line. They have a variety of toppings to suit any palate. These are a heavier cake donut rather than a light and fluffy yeast donut. Try the apple pie donut, it's incredible. There is very limited outdoor seating. The staff have always been friendly and helpful, and the coffee is decent, too. The donuts are still delicious later or the next day -- just throw them in the microwave for :15 and you're good to go. It's take-out only, but you could totally get Carry Norfolk to deliver some to your home/office/face. read more

Yum. The best part about these donuts is that they are made fresh which means hot cakey deliciousness. Downside is there are not many options. I would hope that in the future they expand the donut flavors. Maybe a chocolate donut, strawberry, blueberry? Right now it's just a plain donut with your choice or glaze/powder and topping. Bummer... The cashier and donut maker took a smoke break with the back door open and the air smelled like a pack of Marlboros, just a few minutes after I sat down to eat. Although he did put on new gloves, it was still repulsive. Also, not hot and fresh. My donut was not from the hot oil, but mine came from under the heat lamp, which isn't a heat lamp but a construction work lamp on a bakers rack. I wanted to love this locally owned doughnut shop, but it fell short. The doughnuts are average and the toppings are limited. And if you care at all about the environment, you should skip this place altogether. They require that you write your order on a 8.5" x 5" sheet of paper, and your doughnut is served in a plastic clamshell container - whether or not you're eating there or taking it out. It's all very wasteful. I'll stick with cupcakes until an environmentally responsible doughnut shop comes along. read more

I loved getting fresh hot donuts made however I wanted. I had a strawberry glaze and then a maple glaze with bacon and coconut. They were warm and delicious. I also ordered a specialty coffee drink and it was better than the Starbucks I had earlier. What sets this place apart is the friendly service and super clean store. The donuts are fresh and made to order. You pick the glaze and toppings you want. As soon as I got into the car, I tried the donut with peanut butter glaze and chocolate chips. It was warm and melted in my mouth. I didn't want to put it down. The donuts are slightly crispy on the outside with a soft, moist center that is to die for! The staff was a bit rude, the process of ordering the donuts was ridiculous, and they microwave them before giving them to you. We tried them when we got home and they did not taste that great, certainly no better than chain donut shops. If you are going to open a shop in Ghent, you better have your game straight, because this is an unforgiving neighborhood, and rude service is never forgotten. Went for their grand opening November 1, 2013. Best donuts I've had in Hampton Roads - fresh cake donuts fried, glazed, and sprinkled while you wait. Just a little over $1 for a donut too. You get to choose what combination of glaze and topping you get, and it's made fresh for you - I had a maple glaze with heath bits sprinkled on top, which was amazing. Friendly, helpful staff. Can't imagine going back to Dunkin or Krispy Kreme. They also have sundaes (donut and ice cream!) which look amazing. Mostly takeout oriented, so there's not much seating, but donuts don't really require seating! I bet they'll win a Best Of Hampton Roads award next year - highly recommended! read more

Husband and I came here for half a dozen on a Saturday morning. It was our first time trying them out as I was craving donuts. Sadly it was a disappointing experience, the donuts were not fresh. When we were handed the box it had chocolate dripped all over it and rather than giving us a new box so I could hold it without getting chocolate all over me they just gave us napkins. My husband has a pretty strong stomach but both of us were sick and running to the bathroom after eating these donuts. Not sure if that is the usual or whether it was an off day but we won't be returning. I'd say save the calories and find a better quality treat elsewhere. read more

So we decided to try this place this morning. We ordered half a dozen to bring home, wih a variety of coatings and toppings. My daughter immediately opened the box as soon as we got in the car, and we were both underwhelmed with the appearance of these donuts. They were on the small side and the toppings were practically non-existent. In fact, if I had seen it in the store I probably would have complained. The oreo donut my daughter ordered had literally maybe a small spoonful of chocolate looking crumbs, and my heath donut looked like it had only a few peanut slivers. But then we tasted them, and oh. em. gee. Warm, with a slightly crunchy exterior and a moist, tender interior, this is one donut that will melt in your mouth. I was immediately a fan! I'm hoping the scarce topping issue was just a fluke...that's the only thing that kept this from being a five star review. I expect an oreo or heath topping to have enough of those to be recognizable! Customer service was also on point, and the store appeared clean and well-stocked.
