The food and service here were absolutely amazing. This was my first time having sushi and I felt so comfortable and welcomed by the staff. We had Shirley as our waitress and she was hands down the most remarkable server I have ever had at any restaurant. She was incredibly kind and attentive and was constantly checking in on us and doing everything should could to improve our experience. We went for Houston restaurant month and got the spicy garlic edamame, soup, summer roll, the chicken hibachi, pork and beef gyoza, mango and green tea ice cream, and more. It was all great! There wasn't a single dish that we didn't think was very good. I would highly recommend this place, not only for the great food, but also because of the incredible staff. Wow. I don't even write reviews, but Osaka definitely deserves one! From the second we walked in, we were greeted and seated with a smile. The food here was beyond what words can explain! Every bite was packed with flavor and absolutely delicious. I ordered the chicken hibachi, spicy edamame, and chicken skewer. My husband ordered the beef hibachi, miso soup, and shrimp with fried seaweed cake (I don't remember the exact name ). All I know is that with every bite, our eyes would get wider and wider because we were so excited to try the next dish! We both had leftovers, and we actually finished them the next morning--which says A LOT! The owner was also so sweet and made an effort to have a conversation with all of her customers. We went for lunch and it was HRW, a 4 course meal for $45! We took advantage of their offer and we were able to try a little bit of everything! I was starving so we started with edamame! It was so good! For me I chose the house salad to start with, crunchy/crispy lettuce for the win! I then had the 5 piece sashimi! All of my pieces were amazing! For my roll, I went with the creamy wasabi roll! This was the superstar of my options! I chose the green tea ice cream, it was very refreshing! Checked out Osaka for a casual sushi night. No wait and premiere parking around 5:30pm in the connected lot. Friendly and attentive service all around. We received multiple complimentary items such as the shrimp and seaweed tempura appetizer, dessert mango ice cream, and cold sake. Onion soup- bigger than I was expecting. Had a little sour flavor that was different but liked. Lots of mushrooms in there too. Spicy garlic edamame was mild so easy to eat without burning your mouth but still had good flavor. Tuna, yellowtail, salmon masago roll- simple and clean Tokyo roll- classic shrimp tempura topped with spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail, spicy salmon, and sweet soy Red moon roll- pepper tuna and avocado topped with spicy salmon (my friend ordered but too full to try- seemed to enjoy it) Overall good value, good food, family owned, and a casual atmosphere. I took my three adult children with me to Osaka's and we all ordered off of the Houston Restaurant Week menu. We ordered different items so we could try each other's food. Usually when we do this, there is a clear meal winner and loser; however, this time EVERYTHING was delicious!!! All the sushi tasted super fresh and the seasoning and sauces used for the meats were tangy and just the right amount. Plus, the staff were super attentive and friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Osaka on a Saturday afternoon. Don't let the outside appearance fool you. We were sat immediately and attended to promptly. We ordered the Eel Roll, The Dragon Roll, Houston Roll and the spicy tuna roll. As we waited for our order imagine our surprise when we received a complimentary appetizer. It was jumbo shrimp on top of a crispy wonton. It was wonderful and very satisfying. When the rolls arrived they did not disappoint. they we bigger than your average rolls. I went here for a lunch meeting yesterday, and we ordered a couple rolls and sashimi. Love how they give you complimentary shrimp tempura to start the meal, tasty! Our server was very attentive, and the food came out fast. I was shocked by how thick the cuts of sashimi were. I also liked the quality of fish as well. The rolls were all good. My boyfriend and I love Osaka for a casual but reliable sushi spot. There is no need to dress up too much, but the sushi and food are great. The calamari is okay, but the sushi is always solid. Whenever we are there, we always seem to get some sort of creative and delicious mini app to start our meal as well! I have always loved this place. I've been coming for years, since about 2002. I always enjoyed the food here, service is prompt, courteous, and my orders are always correct. The folks are friendly and always greet you when you walk in. They always give you a small appetizer and at the end of the meal they bring you a small dessert. I would give this place a million stars if I could. I was surprised by how empty it is, but that just means the new location through off people so its like a secret. Not sure why it says reservations only, I've been twice and reservations were not needed. They actually have private parking, which is also a plus for the area. I would say this place was decent. I really wasn't overly impressed with anything that I got or the two people that with me ate. One has steamed rice like a shaggy roll. I had the fried rice and like a Nigiri sampler and then the other guest had. I can't remember another set of sushi rolls. Nothing really stood out. The Nigiri to me was a little too large, I kind of like to be able to just place the whole piece in my mouth and there's kinda large just like two bites and no kind of falls apart. Fried rice was OK. I ordered the Houston Restaurant Week lunch special to go and picked it up in store this weekend. I quickly realized HRW is basically their lunch special all year long. You get a free appetizer & a scoop of ice cream with your entree when you dine in (I'm not sure if this applies to-go) It's great that they have their own parking lot and the restaurant inside is casual and peaceful. The staff was very nice and boxed everything up well. We really enjoyed how high quality the sashimi was, particularly the salmon. I would definitely come back. Especially to try the Matcha IPA they have on the menu. read more

Could not have been more impressed with Osaka. The service was incredibly attentive and the food was delicious. My girlfriend and I have been looking for a sushi restaurant that is reasonably priced and very tasty in the greater Montrose area and Osaka filled this need perfectly. We ordered the cheese puff (crab rangoons) LA Roll, Rock and Roll, and Caterpillar Roll all of which were excellent. The cheese puff was the best Rangoon I have ever had. They also brought us a complimentary order of the Rabata Shrimp which I would love to try again. It was a piece of tempura fried seaweed topped with chopped veggies and a fried gulf shrimp. It was wonderful and tasted what I imagine fried ceviche would be like, if that is a thing, but regardless was very tasty. We could not have been more pleased with our visit and will definitely be back! Also side note: if you're looking for a fun date idea, there is a jazz club about a half mile away from Osaka called Doc's. Doc's serves food, but we preferred to get some sushi instead so we ate at Osaka and walked to Doc's after dinner for the show. Doc's does require that you book a table for the show, but at least as of the time I am writing this review, there is no requirement to order food with your table booking (most of their entree options were $26-40 with apps around $15-20). Osaka is within walking distance and a great place to eat then head over to a show if you're looking for a fun date idea and would prefer to eat somewhere else before hand but still catch the show. We'll be back to Osaka regardless, but if we go to Doc's again, this is what we'll do. read more

We arrived on a Friday at about 630PM and there was plenty of parking in their private lot. We tried salmon, fatty tuna, sea bass, and yellowtail pieces (thick cuts, pretty good), a salmon skin roll (loved it), the nabeyaki udon (tasted like a box of beef/mushroom broth and wouldn't order again, tempura (delicious), takoyaki (interesting, didn't taste or look very traditional), and green tea ice cream (so good!). If we're looking for cheaper sushi, we'd visit again but only for the tempura and sushi. read more

Not sure what changed but they seemed much better when they were at their old location (where the new BB's is at now). The last few times we ate here, the fish just didn't seem as fresh. It was across the board from the sake, akami, hamachi (both regular and belly), and other fish. So it wasn't like a bad batch of just one species.
