I received a quote from Oscars about three months ahead of our move and I accepted their proposal. We didn't have a definite date as our new house was undergoing extensive renovations. Oscars and I communicated regularly about the date and about a month ahead of time, I gave them a likely date. Two weeks before that date, I called to confirm that same date. The sales rep then told me, "We are raising the price 20% because you took so long to give us a date." I objected, saying "You never told me the price would go up if I didn't give you a date by a certain time." He basically said "too bad. Good luck with your move" and hung up on me. We moved from our house in April and these guys were awesome. Hector and Paul were fast, efficient and got the job done in less time and less than the original quote. We were able to ask them to move some existing furniture in the new house, and they were super careful not to scratch the hardwood floors. Even when I changed my mind about the location of something, they were very easy going. Paul has a great sense of humor and made the move much less stressful for us. I've used Oscars twice. 2 years ago to unload a moving pod up 4 flights of stairs. They were awesome, showed up on time did a great job in the heat going up and down. A second time a few months ago to move down 4 flights and up a different 2 flights. We did an overnight move where they load up the truck on the 31st and keep it overnight and unload it on the 1st. This time they showed up ridiculously late and we didnt get moved out until midnight. Then because they were working at 11pm they didnt do a great load job and a coffee table showed up busted. Not the best experience, but still actually pretty good for a moving company. They did pay 60 cents per pound as the "insured' value on the table, so I got like a $40 check. Not exactly the 500 we paid for it, but at least something. I've moved lots of times and stuff breaks, it happens, if you dont get the extra insurance thats what you get. If you dont like it, dont move. If you do move, Oscars is pretty good but not perfect. read more

I was very pleased with my experience with Oscar's Moving from start to finish as well as after the fact. I moved from the South End of Boston to Newton right before the Memorial Day weekend. The moving rate was good compared to other companies I spoke with and was close to the estimate I was given. The actual service was great. I loved these guys, start to finish. Moving is expensive, so I was looking for someone a bit more affordable. I got a letter in the mail from Oscar's and checked out their references. My move was complicated because I needed to leave my condo in Boston in early December and move into a new house in Maine sometime later that month. The interaction was personable and professional, the movers were polite and efficient and took great care with some delecate, glass front furniture that I have (they were really good at figuring out how to protect a glass, bow-front bookcase), the storage fees were VERY reasonable... all going well, right? I finally close on the house in Maine in January, later than expected (no problem for Oscars) and scheduled a date to move. Unfortunately, a blizzard was scheduled for the same day. I called Tony, my move guy, and he was already on top of it. They managed to get more guys to come in a day earlier and they got my stuff to Maine the night before the move was scheduled. I'm sure the crew had worked another move already but it didn't slow them down a bit. We had already cleaned the upstairs rugs so everything was going to be moved into the downstairs living room (wood floors) since they would be tracking in salt and sand (its Maine. There was already plent of snow and sand and salt on the roads and on my stairs). First, they put down a huge moving rug to protect the entrance floor and hardly tracked anything furhter into the house. When I tried to move the bed upstairs myself since I'd need that immediatly, one of the guys kicked his shoes off and ran it right upstairs for me. Boxspring too. We used Oscar's Moving Co. on Aug 19th for moving and storage. We were extremely satisified and happy to do business with this company. They were thankfully able to fit us in on a last minute request and took credit cards! (I had to cancel another reservation due to other bad reviews and was creeped out that they only took cash, bank check, or money order). Oscar's was easy to get a hold of and were competitively priced. Three of their movers showed up within the timeframe they promised, and were very friendly, efficient, and professional. All of our furniture was wrapped thoroughly to prevent damage during the move, and they were also willing to hoist over a balcony. I'd give no star if I could. Half of my things were broken, had scratches, were not put in the right spots- things labeled storage unit were put into the house. More of a mess than anything. Put tables together that are so uneven and don't even touch the floor. Owners or whoever is in charge are also very rude on the phone. Would not recommend to anyone at all. UPDATE: this is not a former employee or a fake account... my experience was terrible and I don't feel that I have to have my face posted in a photo on here if I don't want too... the owner clearly is very rude and bully like and I recommend this company even less now. I will never use them again. I had to be at my new place my at a curtain time I did inform the of that, no problem I was told. Well, They showed up later then they said but I still was with in the time I wasn't too worried until they said "oh, we haven't had anything to eat so were going to get something". Alright, sure they need food I figured they would just grab a sandwich to go, They went to a sit down resturant!!!!! Well, an hour later they show up "Oh, they took soooo long to wait on us" Well, any way they get my things all packed on the truck and say "So, how are you getting there"? I didn't have a car at the time so I just figured I would have to ride with them. So, the head mover says get this "Well, I don't care I have to smoke so If you have a problem thats too bad" And on top of that they broke one of my lamps. Never Never Again!!!! Yes the movers showed up on time but the 3 men that I paid to have assist me with my move were absolutely lazy. They took apart my son's bunk bed and left the screws on the floor and somehow they mysteriously disappearred. When they arrived at the new location and it was time to set up the bunk bed, the screws were nowhere to be found. In fact, they blamed it on my mother who was also there cleaning up. Wait it gets better! I didn't notice this until after I started going through some of my items that they screwed on the front legs of my couches backwards and forgot to screw on the back ones which left them lopsided. Boxes were all over the place and bags filled with my personal items were just thrown everywhere. This might be okay for others but since I am on a WHEELCHAIR, it is necessary for me to have adequate space to move around in. The crew was a bunch of young kids with not much experience with moving from what I saw. For example, one of the crew members left their tool bag behind because as I said previously, their work is a bit unorganized. When I called the sales cordinator, he said that since the crew couldn't find the screws my husband advised them to leave and that he would take care of it. Total BS! This is a moving company that charges by the hour. The more time they would've spent looking for screws that they misplaced, the more money I would be billed for. Total scam!! In addition, the sales coordinator could care less about me being on a WHEELCHAIR and advised me to put my son's bunk bed together on my own. QUESTION: HOW IS A DISBALED PERSON WHO USES A WHEELCHAIR SUPPOSE TO LIFT UP A BUNK BED AND PUT IT TOGETHER ON THEIR OWN??? IN ACTUALLY, I HIRED A MOVING COMPANY TAKE APART AND REARRANGE MY FURNITURE AND THAT IS NOT THE SERVICE I RECEIVED. Well,since I was told that because the movers had already left my home, this issue was my problem to fix now. This company damaged a secretary - a large chip about 12 inches long along bottom of bookcase half. Also must have dropped my solid hardwood dining table, cracking corner joint. Plus lost 1 box and left a wrapped art print that must have belonged to someone else. Well dropping furniture is inexcusable. If you don't feel it slipping, you put it down gentle then get better grip. None of these two pieces were so wide they couldn't fit through doors. My doors are 36 inches wide! The legs were off the table top! Regarding the box, it had all my cookie sheets and my old family recipes that are totally upsetting and irreplaceable! Dropping/cracking furniture is due to inadequate and training and supervision. But losing boxes is utterly poor organizational procedures/systems. read more

Moving is stressful. When you move from a full-size house to a small house in the city, it gets even more stressful. Add to that a pandemic and a lockdown and you have LOTS of stress. But we needn't have worried. Tony, and then Alan, kept us apprised of the situation, reassuring us and keeping things on track. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, DO NOT USE OSCARS Like some of the other reviewers suggested Oscar is the slowest moving company, that DID NOT take care of my things. When they came they wanted me to sign a liability waver, otherwise they won't even move. That's ridiculous. Second did not protect any of my chairs, sofa, bed with protective cover, though I specifically asked them to, they did not bother. For a 4 hour move to about 0.5 miles distance, it took 8 hours and double the cost with broken stuff. I will not use Oscar's ever in my life. I hired Oscar's a few weeks ago for a one bedroom move. They sent two lazy guys who spent 6 1/2 hours on the job and ran up my bill to twice the estimate. They broke the legs of a dresser, damaged my walls and rolled up my $1200 mattress as if were a carpet and thus destroyed it's spring system(I would have stopped these idiots had I seen them doing this beforehand). They later lied and claimed that they did it because of a narrow stairway when there were only elevators and no stairs involved. There were also countless other things they did as well. Oscar's moving company picked up my belongings (2nd floor), stored for about two months and delivered to new home (3rd floor). They arrived on time and worked quickly but carefully. Absolutely nothing was broken, including about 35 wine glasses. Nothing was scratched or damaged. The movers were friendly and pleasant and if they were uncertain they would ask where I wanted something placed. They disassembled and reassembled my bed and kitchen table which was great because I was definitely too tired to handle that task. I see others had problems but it was a very seamless process for me, in fact it was the easiest part of my entire move. Would use them again and gladly refer them. read more

NEVER AGAIN...I was quoted a minimum of 2.5 hours between 2 days and .5 hour each day for travel time...wow, what a deal, so I went with them. First day the movers were great and quick (took them 25 minutes). I was excited because I knew for sure I would be within the quoted time. Charged me for 3 hours, thought I was paying for the next day also...whatevers, that's cool. A timeframe b/n 4-8 was given to me in the contract. The mover asked me what time would be best for them to drop off my things...I said 6, he said okay! The next day comes around, it's 7:20, and I haven't heard anything...concerned called the office..."they're on their way!" Long story short...they came at 9:55, did not apologize for being late. Talked to someone in the office, nice enough to take off 1/2 an hour. I was given the bill, and I was still being charged for the min of 2.5 hours, so I called the office and complained that this was not what was quoted to me by the person I spoke to on the phone when I first made the arrangement. Ridiculous that at 10:30 at night I'm being told that I have to pay way more than what I was quoted, even after my things arrived about 4 hours after I was told they would be delivered (gave the benefit that the original timeframe was b/n 4-8, but then don't give an exact time within that timeframe if you can't make it)...scratches on my furniture that I'm unable to buff out and bottom of the dresser chipped. I would have felt differently if I received a call before 6:00 to notify me that they would not be able come at the time that was given to me, or even before 8:00. I do have to add that I was discounted quite a bit more at the end of all this, but still more than what I was originally quoted despite the move taking only about 1 hour for both days. read more

I packed most of my belongings but had lots of artwork to be boxed up by Oscar's. They wrapped and boxed it all carefully. I needed to book them to come at a specific time to move the furniture and the to come back again to move it back also at a specific time. The pool table required 4 guys.
