Stopped here after an afternoon spent tubing through lovely Lyons, Colorado. To start, I must say that if this was a review of the beer alone, it would be a solid 5 stars. Not worth the price. Family and I decided to get OBs another shot for lunch... our last time in was bad. Unfortunately, this experience was no better. I had the BB King burger and it was tasteless. The cheese was obviously highly processed and the bacon was bland, the bun was 33% too big for the burger patty. For $12, I rather go somewhere else. Wife had the Chicken Peanut Wrap and it looked weak. Veggies were pale and tasted like water, sauce was bland and the xoukd.use some basic salt and pepper. Daughters Pulled Pork Sandwich looked flat and unappetizing. Pork has been on and off the steam table a few times. Again, bun was 33% too big for such a small portion. Again, feels like we got ripped off with this meal. Overall, seems Jason has destroyed another fine OB restaurant. From CHEAP product to a lackluster staff, this place will only survive on the unsuspecting summer tourist stopping in. read more

Oskar Blues is a great combination of tasty food, good beer, and fun atmosphere! There is live music and a bar on the lower level (where it's self-seating and you don't have to wait for a table. The upper level is more dining oriented. Fun and funky decorations are all over the restaurant (I particularly enjoyed the scrabble board type lettering on the ceiling and the windows hanging within the windows). On to the food- DELICIOUS! Originally, Eric and I were full from a previous snack stop, so we had only ordered the catfish bits and sliders. Then we saw a country fried steak go by and had to order it. It was all so delicious. I would recommend the pulled pork sliders over the beef ones. The catfish was zesty and crispy and hot (cornmeal batter). Be sure to ask for their special beer-brewed hot sauces (we really liked Mama's Lil Yellow hot sauce). Our friends ordered the crab cakes and we tasted it- Eric and I normally are not huge fans, but those crab cakes were really great. They were real crab and didn't have that weird aftertaste that many crabcakes seem to have. We really need to go back to try the beer pot roast- they were out when we went. All in all, not your healthiest meal, but certainly tasty. Quick note on the beer: Eric and our friend Jason love the Gubner, but watch out, it's so high in alcohol content that the restaurant only will serve two per person! read more

How can a brewery with a history of such decent brews and a cool vibe have such a disappointing restaurant? Stopped in after a backpacking trip in RoMo NP. We were hot and tired. Got shuffled around from person to person and floor to floor, being told, "go see the hostess; we're trying that out today". We sat at our table for almost 10 minutes without water or any sign of a waitress, so my husband approached the bar to order us some beers. That clearly was not cool, and resulted in our waitress quickly appearing. The place has signed 8x10's all over the place, but the music was seriously lacking. While we were waiting for our waitress, I heard: Garth brooks, johnny cash spoken word, the who, and Miley Cyrus. Pick a genre! Decide who you want to be, OB! Stop trying to cater to everyone. Chicken and avocado did not come with avocado, it came with bad guac, and was served on a pita. Tasteless. It even had bacon on it, and still somehow managed to be completely devoid of flavor. Same with the sweet potato fries, which were a $1.99 upcharge. They were beautiful. Perfectly cut, nearly perfectly cooked...but almost completely flavorless. It would take special talent to remove the flavor from bacon and sweet potatoes, yet somehow they did! Potato skins were not delicious, but hubs liked his burger. I agree with others--it's definitely overpriced for what you get. $50 could have been better spent elsewhere. I wish I would have gotten 2 beers from them, and spent the other $40 on pizza or even fast food (yup, I said it). I had the Old Chub for the first time, which was pretty good. Hubs got an Imperial Red, which was far hoppier and bitter than I would have expected. Oskar Blues Grill & Brew is the comforting blend of down-to-earth southern food and great craft beer all under one roof. The brewery itself, established in 1997, is known for crafting their delicious award winning beers in a can since 2002 (something that founder Dave Katechis found hilarious - I've yet to find the humor in it). Canning beer makes it more environmentally friendly, portable and still tasting great because of the lining in the cans preventing the beer from touching the aluminum, and the lack of light and oxygen keeping it ultra fresh. The top floor of the restaurant is a family-friendly pub with wacky southern garb all over the walls (including a pseudo-creepy Elvis statue), and the bottom floor is the bar with video games and live music. The night that we were there, there wasn't a band on the schedule, so we hung out up top for some food and a few brews. We excitedly talked about upcoming summer vacation plans, watched the sorbet sunset gently fade away and relaxed as our dinner adventure settled. Oskar Blues was a great place for a surprise date night, especially since the beer was fantastic (although the food was about average), and our service was awesome. At one point, Oskar Blues was going to establish a new location in Fort Collins. It's a shame it didn't work out, but that just gives us another excuse to leave the kids at KidsTown and go out for another beer date in Lyons. read more

Mama's little yella pils. I never knew or paid attention that it was from this brewery. The first time I had it was in 2011 in Orlando, and anytime I see it on a menu I order. It's a small-batch version of the beer that made Pilsen. It's not like other pilsners that taste watered down. Sadly, when I was here I felt too nauseous from the altitude to enjoy one. Instead, I had a ginger ale. But so stoked I got to be here! I went for the chicken lettuce wraps which are way diff than what you'd get at PF Chang's. White meat chicken breast sliced up on romaine lettuce leaves, edamame, shaved carrots, bean sprouts and hoisin sauce. Presentation looks so great, but when I bit into the first wrap, the hoisin was too powerful for me. It made it taste like tequila and I can't say the other part. It was all great flavors blending together and I think because I'm not used to being so high up (I live at sea level), I was already nauseous I couldn't really enjoy my meal. I felt so bd because it really looked so appetizing! I did get one wrap down and had to save the rest as a midnight snack which I did end up finishing later that evening. The only thing I'd change is the amount of hoisin. If it was drizzled less it would be much better. I had to scrap a lot of it off. Overall a great fresh meal after a hike. Their chicken wings looked so tasty too! The smell made my mouth water and I really wanted to try my buddies wings, but I didn't want to ask. My friend said she goes to the Oskar Blues out in Asheville where she lives every Friday night. Loved sitting outside and watching the sun set behind the mountains. Relaxing and would love to come back again and get Mama's little yells pils and some wings. read more

My friend and I stopped by Oskar Blues on our way up to Estes Park for a girls' weekend of wine tastings and relaxation. We decided to kick off the weekend with a stop at a brewery for some beers and burgers....and we definitely picked a winner with this one! The place was absolutely dead when we arrived, early afternoon on a Friday. We were the only ones at the bar downstairs, until a regular customer came in to grab some fries over his lunch break. The bartender was helpful, and pretty nice...she gave good service, which was kind of hard not to do with only 3 of us in the place. I had their beers before at a beer tasting hosted by Mile High Wine and Spirits, so I knew that my friend would love them too. We split a sampler so we could try all of them, including a couple new brews. I'm partial to the Momma's Lil' Pils, and Old Chub, of course. My friend liked one of their new ones the best, but I can't remember what it was called. We both went with burgers for lunch, since I remembering hearing that they're awesome. And yes, they were indeed...awesome...especially mine! I went with the "Silo Burger": A 1/2 lb. burger topped with lean pork, hot sauce, bacon and pepper Jack cheese. Holy shit balls, that burger was fantastic! I chose sweet potato fries for $.99 extra, which was totally worth it...they were yummy! The restaurant itself is typical brewery/bar...except for the super awesome retro arcade. I think they used to be a penny, but now they are all 5 cents I believe. Either way, it really is neat! They also have live music here often, and seems like a great venue for that. My only issue with the place was that the prices seemed a little high for bar food. Yes, it was a great burger, but still...most of them are around $10. Another negative about this place is the location. Food is tasty -- lots of sandwiches, and the Texas toothpicks (deepfried onions and jalapenos) were delish. Didn't get to experience the music aspect as we went for Sat. lunch, but the service was EXCELLENT. Really nice waitress who was quick, helpful, and personable. Disappointed that they didn't have a beer I liked--don't like ales or heavy beers, and they didn't have a wheat beer. So I settled for an Arnold Palmer. I've only been here a couple of times -- on the way back from Estes -- and it's just a great burger bar. Seriously. Yesterday I had the special which was Jambalaya -- a little too soupy for my taste, but it was still delicious (and that's what always happens when I get a non-burger item at a burger joint... you'd think I'd learn already!) My dining companion had a bunch of sides -- all of which looked great. I can only speak to the quality of the sweet potato fries, which I've had in the past, and they're yummy. Well it was supposed to be a quick snack on our way home. Spent afternoon in Estes Park and thought we would stop for a beer and something to eat. We only waited 10 minutes top for our table of three. Not sure why cuz there were plenty of empty tables. Seated in bar area, nice server/bartender behind bar took order and answered questions quickly. That's where everything slowed to a snail's pace. Took 30 minutes to get chicken nachos and a veggie lettuce wrap? What? Why? Waiter did check in on our drinks, but where's our food? Nothing we ordered should take that long. Chicken that was supposed to be on nachos was invisible. Veggie wrap lame. No excuse for either meal. Dining room was not even half full; deck was, but that's normal here. Pick up the pace folks. Probably won't stop again. Only got two stars cuz of guy who took order and brought drinks. read more

Had no idea this was the original Oskar Blues but a local told us to come check it out since we had been to the other location in Longmont. It's located in Lyons along the foothills upon entering the mountains. My husband and I sat on the patio and enjoyed the Beerito Mexican Ale and Pinner. Both delicious! I ordered the cheese pierogis which I didn't realized we're fried and never had had before. They were served with sour cream and applesauce and were pretty good but I'd prefer them not to be fried that's all. My husbands chicken fingers were yummy! Very juicy and tender! This place is very different from the Longmont and Asheville locations but it's neat to see where they started! If you are ever out this way it's worth stoping for! read more

It's hard to decide between three stars and four. If it was a rating based on food it would be a two, the beer, a four. So I guess a three is the middle ground. The food was nothing to write home about. Pretty basic and not a lot of flavor, and that's how everyone felt. If your fries were the best part of your meal then that's pretty sad. Old Chub is great. It was the best beer I tried there, in my opinion. The One Nut was also really good as was the Tenfidy. I tend to like darker, draught beers and these really hit the spot. I will go back for the beer because getting it out of the can just doesn't cut it. I'll just deal with the food and the really long wait. read more

Amazing root beer and beer (obviously). Try Mama's Little Yella Pils or Deviant Dales. The food service, however, is lacking. Wings were good, not as crispy as I like them, but the wing sauce (made with their beer) is awesome. Also.. best fried fish (it's catfish!) I've EVER had in Colorado. Oskar Blues is an awesome chill out restaurant/bar and a necessary stop with any trip to Lyons. Food is usually really good. I'd say go for the burger and fried pickles. But the real draw for Oskar's is the beer. They have a wide selection of their own beers to pick from. My personal favs being Mama's Little Yellow Pils and Dale's Pale Ale. If you're looking for a beer to knock you on your booty, try Old Chub. With an alcohol content like that one, you won't know what hit you. Oskar Blues also has some awesome live music (pretty much every night too). They do have a cover price occasionally, but nothing too crazy. If you love live music, especially blues, than you are in for a wonderful experience. read more

The beer is solid, but there is such spectacular breweries in the Front Range, you are almost disappointed. The Old Chub Scotch Ale had an interesting smokiness to it; the Tin Fidy Imperial Stout didn't really stand up against the complexity I'd expect in an Imperial Stout. Our server came across as extremely un-bright. I don't downgrade on tips very often, but she earned a low tip. We worked really hard to extract information from here about the food--from descriptions of the beers, what kinds of sides were available, what kinds of juices were available for the kids, etc. Service was generally slow, which I think is partially the kitchen's fault as well. The kitchen dropped one of entrees and had to start over (at least they told us!). A second entree had to be sent back because the burger wasn't cooked enough. A third entree we never sent back, but the chicken in the beer-can chicken was uncomfortably under done. That is 3 out of 6 entrees ordered. They should do better than 50%. However, the BBQ pork had a nice light smoke on it, the Texas Toothpicks were fun, and the Ham-hock greens were great. I went to fill in my tour of Front Range breweries, and I'm glad I went. However, I'm not keeping the coaster as a memento from this one. read more

I came here because of Small Business Saturday. This isn't one of the places I'll revisit if I come to Lyons. I was much more impressed with Tacos don Jose. Anyway, I was first turned off by the dirty menus. The menus were disgusting. Both mine and my guest's were dirty. Our waitress was really nice. She read us the specials and I went with the Elvis burger. My only complaint was the description given by the waitress. She told me the burger consisted of jalapeno, bbq sauce, and cheddar cheese. What she failed to mention was the brisket on top of the burger. Since I'm a brisket lover I had no problem, but I was disappointed that I wasn't told about the brisket when she described the burger. Other than that the food was very greasy. I guess we ordered a lot of deep fried and greasy things so that was really our fault. The only reason I would revisit is because of the beer and rootbeer. The food was anything you could find at a Chili's and the last time I was in Lyons I had a much better food experience at Tacos don Jose. read more

Sometimes great, sometimes awful. First off, the beer here is always great. Dales Pale Ale never disappoints. Then there's the food... Sometimes we go and the chicken fried steak is the best ever and the onion rings melt in your mouth. Other times the onion rings are burnt to a crisp and the chicken fried steak requires a hammer and chisel to cut it. My wife and daughters have had the same problem with the food they have ordered, and the same times I've had issues. So if you go when they have the good cooks there, it's 4 stars. If you go when they have the bad cooks working, it's 0 stars. read more

I was humbly introduced to OB Dale's Pale Ale before moving out to Colorado, and I'd have to say that a sixer of this brew (not to mention the old scotch ale) in shiny, aluminum has always been a trusty option for pretty much any activity. I'm a frequent out to Rocky Mtn Nat'l Park, and I've always wanted to stop into their original location because of their beer's reputation. I'll keep it simple. I, like many yelpers, love food...but the food here took a bite out of my soul, and I don't think i'll ever get it back. It's reasonably priced (for the most part) and there are a decent amount of options, but it's low quality bar food at best and the fries aren't even good. Usually food tastes good after a 10 mile hike, but neither of us could finish our plates. The beer on the other hand, is trustworthy. The beer saved for an extra star read more

Oskar Blues is a quality brewery in an upcoming hip Colorado town. I've never eaten the food however I've had many of their brews over the years. I think their core beers are top notch but the rotating taps have more unique flavors. We've tried the Longmont store a few times trying to like it, but the service as a bad as it could ever be and the food is just terrible. I read the reviews before I went, I was warned about the service, but, I was not completely ready. It took 10 minutes to be asked for our drink order. We ordered a Mama's Pils, and I was very excited to have that on tap. Reading the menu everything is nickel and dimed. We waited another 15 minutes, no beer or water, so we got up and walked out. I was so disappointed because I love their beer and I love what they have done for Colorado small breweries. Old Chub is still one of my favorites, but now it leaves a foul taste in my mouth knowing how the pub is. Drink their beer please!!! Just don't bother with the restaurant. read more

There are two things that are consistent about this place -- good beer and shitty service on the patio. The quality of the food varies, which gives a kind of Russian roulette vibe to deciding to have a meal there. On several occasions my wife and I have entered the patio and been ignored by multiple servers for 5-15 minutes. I've learned just to get a drink at the bar and enjoy the patio until someone comes by. Once they do get around to acknowledging you, the service has been on the low end of acceptable. Frequently there are some regulars with their dog in the patio area, which servers claim is a "service dog". It's readily apparent that this is bullshit and the law has been ignored for friends, since there's no vest on the dog and no one at that table is disabled in any way -- it's just a bunch of young hipsters. Other people (including me on occasion) follow the rules and leash their dogs to the railing and have them stay on the outside of the patio; I don't appreciate exceptions being made for friends. Enjoying their beer on the patio is the main reason I put up with the crappy service. I'm a pale ale fan, so I particularly like the Dale's, G'Knight and Gubna brews. The food is hit and miss, but because the beer has a relatively high ABV I'm usually a little more forgiving than usual by the time it arrives. Usually I order something basic that isn't too hard to screw up, like a burger. The service is better inside and more of a normal dining experience. There's a regular bluegrass night (I forgot which night) where musicians show up and play together that's nice to watch, too. I won't make a special trip to visit Oskar Blues in Lyons, but if I'm in the area on a weekend afternoon I'll stop in for a couple of pints. If I'm in a patient mood and the weather is good, I'll put up with the service in the patio. read more

While we didn't have any food, the beer is phenomenal. I wouldn't consider myself a beer snob by any means, I automatically associate cans with the beer from my college days eg Natty Light. Gross. However, I had Dale's Pale Ale, and it was excellent. My friend had Gordon's ale, and it was really good too. While they don't offer official tours per se, they called over to the brewery and the waitstaff walked us over. The brewer was super friendly and gave us a great informal tour and even let us have a free can of beer on the way out. Interesting to see a canning location rather than the typical bottling set up. If you head up to Estes Park, I strongly recommend you stop on by this quiet little place. read more
