Love the variety of menu choices. Foods are okay but not as good as authentic Mexican dishes.

Tortilla Soup and Mexican Caesar Salad
    Lisa M.

Stopped in on a Friday afternoon, a few tables inside and outside were occupied but not terribly busy. We started with the monthly special appetizer of zucchini fries which were fried well and came with a zippy chipotle ranch dip. I opted for a bowl of the tortilla soup and the lunch menu Mexican Caesar salad with grilled chicken. I ended up only getting a cup of soup (and thankfully charged for such) and the "served with table side flair" translates to pouring the broth into the bowl from a stainless steel coffee creamer pot. Though I do appreciate it kept the tortilla strips crispy it's not what I'd consider "flair" The salad, I really didn't know what to expect from a poblano Caesar dressing but it definitely wasn't anywhere near what i imagined. It first came out barely dressed, felt like it was tossed in oil and cotija cheese. I asked for more dressing and the waiter tells me "it's a Caesar so it's tossed in it" I told him I was aware but there's barely any dressing. He took it back and it definitely had more flavor but still nowhere close to resembling a Caesar nor did I taste poblano. Though the greens were crisp and the chicken had a good sear on it but was still tender and flavorful. My cousin got the inside out burrito which ended up being 70% rice inside and a scant bit of beans, lettuce and pico inside. On top, minimal sauce and a scattering of meats which again, props on the cook on the meat. Service was slow despite plenty of staff and minimal diners. Only one table seated after us and the majority of those already there when we arrived left before we got our food. All in all, not bad but not worth repeating.

Took about 40 minutes for my son to get his 5 shrimps and plain sopes for lunch on Saturday. Waiter was rude and unapologetic. I definitely give grace for lack of employees but this was pretty rude service and it's 40 minutes later and no lunch in sight. And empty drinks.

    Margarita menu.

My experience this time around was a little bit more of a let down hence why I had to take one star off. When I went few months ago, I had burnt coffee which I chalked it up as a one time error. But it happened again with this visit, so that told me they don't really pay much attention to their coffee yet they have a whole menu dedicated to coffee. I also made a reservation on a Sunday knowing it fills up quick and that it might be hard to get a table, however, it was an hour and half before they close which means they tend to slow down around that time. Also, when making a reservation, it'll ask you if you want bar, dining area or patio. I chose dining area. Yet they called me an half hour before to see if I wanted to sit at the bar, which I told them twice in person I do not want to, and as a result the hostess gave me the annoyed/judgmental look down when I wasn't looking. As someone who has owned a family restaurant business for 30 years, that's a big no-no in terms of customer service. It's just rude and unnecessary. Also, they kind of really try to get customers out by 2, which is when they close. By standard at most restaurants, they need an extra hour after closing for customers to take their time with their meals rather than rushing through it, especially if you will sit them 20 minutes before closing time. I felt rushed, and I don't like that feeling at a place I'm trying to enjoy my meal. Would I come back here? Absolutely yes because their food is really the best for brunch in the area and it's cleaner. It just shouldn't be an excuse with certain things like what I mentioned above. P.S. if chicken and waffles happens to be one of the specials, get it. It's by far the best dish I've ever tried there and also my top 3 chicken & waffles that I've tried anywhere. SO GOOD!

They were extremely friendly and accommodating and had no problem getting all of us taken care of. I kept it pretty simple and got a burger and a beer. The burger was really good and everything came out well, especially considering how many of us there were. What really stood out though was the service. One person in our group is extremely picky about how she likes her steak cooked and ended up sending it back three times. Each time they were friendly about it and genuinely seemed more concerned with getting it right for her than being annoyed about having to remake it again. For us to come in with 25 people on such short notice and still have everyone be so friendly and accommodating was really appreciated. They handled our group incredibly well and never made us feel like an inconvenience. Definitely a 5-star experience and somewhere I would come back to.

It was a Trio Diavolo, a trio of protein with squid pasta, and a red sauce. I didn't understand that the proteins were diced bits that were stirred into the red sauce pasta. I actually thought the protein was separate from a side of pasta. It disappointed me because I generally dislike seafood in red sauce, but honestly, that wasn't their fault so I still gave them a high rating. Service was friendly and playful. Pretty efficient and seemed to like their job. It is a beautiful restaurant with a pretty amazing view, even if the water is at very sad low levels. Maybe this is natural, I've never been here before. All of the wildlife/birds really enhanced the experience. Flocks of seagulls (not the band), and surprisingly large number of pelicans were wonderful to watch. You can see the riverfront exterior and distant bridge in my standard and 360° photos. Everyone was happy and worried about how this experience would ruin us for other the other restaurants in the area. We showed up at 5:30p on a Saturday night and they were kind enough to squeeze us into their packed restaurant. We lingered over 4 courses where everything was fabulous. Our server was so exuberant about the food which was infectious. We started with the Shrimp Corn Salsa and Brussel Sprouts. Salad was Beet ricotta and greens. Everyone loved them. For entrees I tried the pasta special which was a smoked chicken and veg pasta and man the smoke was intense but delicious. Others had the Chicken Parm and the Sea Scallops. Dessert was tiramisu and the special peach cheese mascarpone cake.

There's a level of pride in the work that he does that screams unreasonable hospitality (IYKYK) and paced my courses out beautifully. Wine recommendation was on point and attention to others didn't lapse. All tables felt his presence. Food: House salad was easily the best red wine vinaigrette that I've ever had. The garlic was the perfect kick. Scallops appetizer were sweet and perfectly cooked through and the spinach/basil cream sauce that was under and surrounded the dish was amazing (and I don't or at least didn't think I liked basil!). For dinner I hate the halibut and mushroom risotto which was cooked to perfection. The risotto does have onions which I missed and didn't care for but they took care and offered me a separate bed which I thought was incredibly nice. For dessert I had the chocolate cake which was delicious. Coffee/espresso hints and perfect texture of cake to filling. I will be back for sure!

I Came Back to Appleton... Wisconsin Immediately Fed Me…read more There are many ways to kick off an HS Reunion weekend. Apparently, the correct Wisconsin way is cheese curds, a soft pretzel, beer cheese, mustard, and craft beer. One of my host~family sisters and longtime friends brought me to Stone Arch Brewpub shortly after I touched down in Appleton, and this was exactly the kind of welcome~back I needed. Let's talk about those cheese curds. Pillowy. Soft. Tender. Ridiculously good. I don't say this lightly, but these may be some of the best cheese curds I've ever eaten. Then came the pretzel~super buttery and incredibly soft~with Wisconsin beer cheese and mustard for dipping. At that point, the reunion could have ended and I would've considered the trip successful. But we weren't done. We worked our way through an assortment of craft beers spanning Hazy IPAs, West Coast IPAs, Sours and Gose~style beers. The atmosphere was cool, the service was great, and the combination of food, beer and catching up with an old friend made this feel like the perfect beginning to my return to Appleton. Sometimes the best travel experiences aren't about finding the newest or trendiest place. Sometimes it's about sitting down with someone who knows you, sharing some great food and beer, and realizing some things really do feel like coming home. Stone Arch was a damn good way to start the reunion. Would absolutely return.
