This was a nice place to eat. The owner or manager stands out front with a menu to invite you in. What really invites you in is the amazing ambiance. The blue and green LED lights and old bookshelves are so magical. It feels very old world. The menu states it is an old Chruch or convent that was donated years ago. The memorabilia that surround the insides looks legit, but one never knows if this is just a bunch of junk to woo the tourist. The food was very good. I had a delicious pizza with some of the freshest tomatoes I've had in Italy. I took the rest home/Airbnb and had the leftovers for breakfast. My partner had a delicious salad and pasta. It is well worth the night out to visit this place. The food was very tasty and fresh, hot and nicely prepared. The only star missing was for the service. The waiters were very nice and proficient but they were spread to thin. Not their fault at all. Prolly the management. I've seen other reviews that state the same issues. So I don't think the night we were there someone called in sick. It looked like the restaurant just short staffs the place. The two waiters were hustling, worked extremely hard and were very nice. It looks like the owner keeps the staffing low, not sure, just a thought. I would go back next visit to Sorrento, and would recommend to others who visit and want a nice relaxing, tasty dinner. One of my favorites in Sorrento! Ate there twice on our trip to Italy. Drinks are priced very well with great pours on the wine. Beautiful inside of the restaurant, the gentleman inviting you in is one of the friendliest people you'll meet in Italy. You get complementary welcome drinks and tomato bruschetta. I really like the bruschetta bc the bread was soft. With your meal, they also serve soft warm bread, drizzled in oil and rosemary. We ordered the veggie pizza, with bell peppers, eggplant and zucchini and it was delicious! I loved the mixture of veggies. The only prob we had was the toppings fell off every time you picked up a slice!! That's okay, bc the flavors and ingredients were really good! We also got the mushroom risotto, it was nicely plated and tasty! At the end of the meal they serve you shots of lemonchello and cream lemonchello with little cookies. The food here was terrible. I honestly don't know how they are still in business. I would not recommend this overpriced place, there are way better options to eat at in Sorrento. We were given free drinks upon sitting down. (Which tasted like water down Shirley Temples.) My meal tasted like it was made from a microwave. Very disappointing. I hardly could finish two pieces of the ravioli. The cheese in the ravioli did not taste fresh. My friend had the lobster ravioli, which she also did not like. We had a smoked salmon appetizer. Excellent value for the money. We arrived at around 7 and the service was attentive. The waiters let us take our time ordering and we had a nice and leisurely pace between courses. As the evening went on, the service got a bit slower and spottier as it got busier. The waiter asked us if we wanted to see the dessert menu, but forgot to bring it. Other than the slow service as the evening went on, the food was very good (see my pics), especially for the money. We were very pleased. read more

On hunt for another restaurant we stumbled over this place, way off the busy mains. Unlike many dinner places they opened at 6 rather than the more usual 7 or 7:30. Delightful seating on the street outside but equally nice dining options inside. Everyone spoke English. The food was off the hook and the portions would make Maggiano's look petite. We enjoyed the ravioli with clams and mussels, the wonderful caprese salad and delightful spaghetti with meat ragu. The best places are always off the main streets and down the way. read more

And the best bread we've had in all the restaurants we e been to. In a couple of days we're going to return to try their pizza which looks fantastic. Checked it out based on the reviews here - and it was very good. Good enough that my wife and I ate here three nights in a row while in Sorrento. The food, particularly the seafood, is very good and prices are reasonable for the quality of food delivered. The fried calamari and shrimp main course is outstanding. I agree with other reviewers that sitting outside is preferable to inside - although you should remember that folks can smoke at the tables right next to you when outside. Something to keep in mind if this might bother you. The only reason they get 4 stars instead of 5 is that the service tends to slip a bit once the restaurant becomes busy -- but we were on vacation so we didn't mind it too much. As long as you are not in a hurry and would like a relaxing meal with great food at a great price -- this place is definitely worth a look. read more

Worst restaurant experience in Italy. Ordered the buonconvento bruschetta and two pizza's. Appetizer was nothing great - everyone seated around us who ordered main courses (who arrived after us - we were part of a tour group) started receiving their food, but we did not. Received assurances from wait staff that food would be "2 minutes". Never arrived had to leave to meet back up with group. Restaurant staff could care less about experience. Hundreds of restaurants in same area with better reviews. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

I went here with my wife while on our honeymoon. This was the only terrible dining experience we had on our trip through Venice, Florence, Rome (where they spilled a platter on me), and Sorrento. We ordered a shrimp cocktail, prosciutto, and wine to start. First came out the shrimp cocktail which was three tiny shrimps. The prosciutto was just ok. Moments later the waiter brought out the wine, and when I had the initial taste I shook my head and said, "No, terrible." He looked at me and continued pouring the sour wine. I immediately went to speak to the manager. It was an ordeal. The only other time I've had to send wine back was in Tennessee, and even there they immediately took the wine back. Instead here it was aggressive with the bus boy trying to get involved as they repeatedly printed a receipt with the wine on it. We literally didn't drink two sips from it. Finally they didn't charge me for the wine and began repeatedly saying "bye, bye." They still took the rest of the food off our table that I paid for and dumped it without asking. Avoid this establishment at all costs if you are trying to have a memorable experience in this beautiful city. read more

We heard great things about this place from our tour guide when we asked for good pizza. We wanted pizza where it started. We ordered wine, anti-pasto, and 2 pizzas with about an hour and 20 minutes before we needed to meet our group. Long story short, apparently it was referred by everyone because the restaurant filled up. We weren't worried, as we'd ordered 15 minutes before anyone else. Our wine and appetizers arrived and we were relaxed but hungry. Then we waited. We noticed everyone else started getting food. I asked about ours, and mentioned we only had 30 minutes before we needed to leave. The wait staff didn't seem concerned that it was taking a long time. 15 more minutes passed and the food never arrived, and in the end we paid for what we'd eaten and left. So disappointing, as I'd really looked forward to enjoying pizza in Italy. Don't bet on this place. read more

The best restaurants are typically the ones off the beaten track. This especially seems true in Sorrento, where the restaurant on the main drag are mobbed, and they advertise their meals using picture posters outside the entrance. We found it best to get lost on the back alleys, and wander around until you find a place that calls to you. This was the case with this wonderful restaurant! Our party of 6 sat outside, and enjoyed the great weather, and peace and quiet of the quaint neighborhood. Our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. And the experience was made even better by the free drinks and "pizza sandwich" bites, and limoncello he brought us. The garlic bread was to die for! The prices, the menu choices, the value, and the service and generosity from the wait staff were excellent. One of us got a chicken dish, my shrimp fra diabolo, and my wife's mixed seafood pasta dish we're all amazing. Then the free Liminchellos, garlic/fennel seed bread and rose colored wine concoctions were on-the-house and excellent additions to our dining experience. A delightful gem we happened upon looking for a good lunch one day. It was so good that we returned for dinner that evening and the next. We were welcomed like family, given the same table we had enjoyed so much at lunchtime, the one outdoor, looking in the large window so we could watch the chef cooking in the wood burning oven. We were treated to a lovely cocktail when we returned the two times for dinner, and limoncello after dinner. The food was very high quality, delicious pizza, unbelievable pastas (oh, the funghi!), delicious fresh fish poached in olive oil. All at very fair prices. Great service and attention! We were treated to an outstanding dinner of local cuisine hence the usage of Osteria in the name of the restaurant. Everything was very fresh! Great steamed mussels and local white fish (exquisitely prepare with black olives, tomatoes and capers), superb antipasto of grilled vegatables, smoked mozzarella olives and proscuito. Their homemade Lemoncello was amazing! Loved the XVi century structure set in the cellar of an ancient convent. Lots of local character and a charming atmosphere. read more
