When in Milan! This is a quaint Osteria. A "Slow Food" restaurant. So 100% a place to take your time and enjoy your food! Do make a reservation in advance can get really busy real quick. It has amazing Milanese cuisine, local traditional recipes and fresh seasonal ingredients. They have an extensive wine list and great prices. My husband and I had one of the best meals in our lives here. We had: Veal with tuna sauce Risotto alla milanese with bone marrow Duck roulade cooked at low temperature with sautéed chicory Dark veal cheek with mashed potatoes Service was amazing and the team serving us was awesome...we ended the night with some espresso and grape'

Fantastic institution in Milan. Simple, plain Milan food at an extraordinary price in a beautiful space with a fresh courtyard, that ignores decoration trends. It sets its own rules. Nicely served. Perfect spot as you arrive by train (5 min from the train station).

After many way overpriced and sub-par meals during our short stay in Milan, we tried the L'Osteria del Treno and I cannot recommend it enough. We arrived at 9pm with no reservation and I was worried we would not be seated, but the owner was so friendly and insisted we stay. He recommended a white wine (Sotsere Bianco) that was crisp and grassy, it was a wonderful accompaniment to our meal. The fennel salad with citrus doesn't sound exciting but with the mild vinegarette and fresh ingredients, it was so flavorful and refreshing. We both ordered handmade tortelli that just melted in your mouth- mine with apples and cheese, my BF's with the butter, sage and rabbit liver. For dessert, the pistachio ice cream with chili pepper was fantastic- delicious with just touch of heat on the back of the tongue, but didn't compete with the flavors of the ice cream. All in all, I would highly recommend it, and remarkably, it was our cheapest meal at 60 euros including appetizers, entrees, wine and dessert. Wish we had tried it sooner during our trip because we would definitely have come back.

The Osteria is a quaint place, a classic of regional cuisine and local tradition. The decor is true to the name, it really feels like the dining area of a train station, with the liquor bar at the entrance and two trattoria-style rooms: wooden tables, dim lights, almost rustic feel. The opposite of a tourist trap, and that's good. Loved the menu: simple, daring and unique. Goose ham?!? Cabbage and sausage fettuccine? Sausage-stuffed chicken with confit? The selection is unique, every dish is well thought through, as if to highlight the heritage of a cuisine rooted in the connection with the land. They embrace the Slow Food movement and it shows. Personal favorite, the cheese platter. If you're a cheese cognoscenti, you'll find some local classics. If you're just happy to try whatever, regardless of what it is, then go for it, and leave the central piece dipped in oil for last, can't think of a better way to end an exquisite gastronomic journey. Waiters are friendly but they don't exactly bend over backwards to check if everything's alright or if you're finished or just waiting to order dessert. Slow food indeed. Well, who cares, really, as long as they provide good insights into the best food combinations or suggest the right wine pairing, that's all that matters. Credit cards are accepted, but no Amex.

He's been in business for 44 years so obviously he knows but still charged us in USD which is kinda shady IMO. We decided to dine here due to all the reviews and photos posted. When we approached the restaurant, the owner immediately said "Ni Hao" which I thought was kinda racist. What if I wasn't Chinese? Mink felt offended but we committed to dining there so we did. He asked if we wanted to dine inside or outside. Since it was chilly for Mink, we opted to dine inside where it was 90% full due to a Chinese tour group. They all had the same dish so we figured preset menu for them. I wasn't sure what I was going to get but since they all ate the Ossobuco con risotto alla Milanese in Crosta, I decided to order that as it was one of the dishes I was considering. Mink ordered their Spaghetti ai frutti di mare. I'm not sure why but the owner exclusively took care of us. He also made it a point to bring a photo over of Jay Chow saying he's dined there 4-5 times in the last few years. Maybe that's why the Chinese tour group eats there? He was arrogant enough to brag about how much money he's made because of Jay Chow. There were lots of celebrities that dined there from what gathered looking at his wall of fame. I bet he didn't charge any of them in USD *smh* The Ossobuco con risotto alla Milanese in Crosta was really good and probably the best we had in Milan. They must be able to make this dish with their eyes closed at this point with the daily Chinese tour groups dining there. Their Spaghetti ai frutti di mare was decent but didn't have as much seafood in the dish as other restaurants and the flavor was about average. The bread and EVOO offered was legit though! I loved it and I normally hardly ever eat the complimentary bread. Food is good overall and customer service felt extra. If we didn't get charged USD, wasn't getting bragged to about how much money he made off Jay Chow and wasn't greeted with a "Ni Hao" then the place is 4 stars. Since all that did happened, 2.5 stars.
