FYI, there is no chicken on the current menu. Husband was a little disappointed as he's pretty basic and loves chicken parm. He opted for a pizza, which was good, he said. I got cacio e pepe pasta, which was good. Portions were small, which surprised me for the prices. Took nearly an hour for our food to come out. Service was nice but a bit unnattentive, and dirty dishes were left behind until we stacked them and pushed them to the edge of the table. Two local businesses recommended this restaurant so we were excited to try it. The food and service were both lackluster. We ate there on a Wednesday night so it wasn't busy. We were seated within a decent amount of time and got our drinks quickly. The wine I selected tasted like vinegar. We ordered pizza (alright, small for $20), meatballs (meh to average), and the seafood pasta (yuck). I ordered it with white sauce and got it with a watery and flavorless red sauce. I love scallops and these were nothing like what I'm used to. We were never checked on during our meal, and there was no salt/pepper/Parmesan on the table. At the end of our meal when the table was cleared the waitress asked us if we got bread (we didn't). They discounted the price of the seafood pasta since it came out wrong.... But wildly disappointing. read more

We did a day of hiking with friends and just showed up here on a Saturday night with a group of 8. They were able to accommodate us by splitting the teenagers and the parents up (our idea). Pizza was perfectly cooked, and the pasta dishes were just as well done. Great option to try if in the area. read more

My husband and I were visiting from out of town. Came here at 5pm for dinner on a Friday night and the place was empty. It got packed in within 30 minutes. My husband had lasagna and I ordered gnocchi. It is the best Italian food we ever had. They make their own pasta in the house. Game changing! I was left speechless how amazing it was. We then ordered a crem brûlée and this desert was so delicious that, even though we were already too full, we decided we would be missing out if we didn't try one more thing off the desert menu. We went for tiramisu and it was really, really great. A lady that we believed was the owner came and checked on us a few times. Our server was very polite and attentive. We had a great meal here. I am pleased the menu has expanded to include some additional appetizers and entrees. My friend ordered 2 appetizer and loved the stuffed mushrooms and I got the fettuccine mushrooms and cream which was delicious. Biagio (the owner and chief) took time too pour us 2 glasses of wine. He graciously and with great knowledge explained how he makes fresh pasta daily and lasagna fresh several times a week. Signora Vignola deftly caught me before I ordered the Gorgonzola sauce for my gnocchi and gave me other options. Even though the osteria was packed with people who reserved tables, room was found for us at bar. The cannoli and tiramisu were not the over sweeten clones of so many American Italian chain restaurants but authentic and tasty Italian treats. I have had food this good only in Florence and Assisi. my only disappointment in this restuarant is that it is 1276 miles away from my casa in Texas!!!! read more

My wife and I have dined here several times since they re-opened under the new owners. Simply put, the food is amazing. It is quite possibly the best Italian food we've had. The fresh pasta is revelatory, and chef has a deft touch with seasoning. I highly recommend the cache e Pepe. All the pasta we have tried so far has been exquisite. The pappardelle is delightful. The branzino was perfectly cooked. The pork belly app? Amazing. And the suggested wine pairings are spot on. Most definitely a hidden gem here in Front Royal. Two words. Homemade pasta. If you've never had it, you must! I took a chance because I normally rely on Yelp reviews when I travel but there weren't any because they are new. I ordered takeout-the tagliatelle ragu, arugula salad, and tiramisu. It was all fantastic! The pasta was so light but meaty. Delicious. And the tiramisu was so light it just had to be calorie free . We've visited a couple times since the ownership changed hands. It's one of my favorite restaurants to go to now. The owners are so gracious and friendly and it really is a family run atmosphere. Makes for a wonderful date night. And the food is the best Italian I've had this side of the Atlantic. Very authentic to European flavoring. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the quality of food or atmosphere at this restaurant because we never got a chance to eat there. I have been wanting to try the new Osteria for almost a year. My wife and I went on a Thursday night at 5:45 for a special occasion. The small parking lot was pretty full, but as we passed the windows we saw almost half the restaurant was empty and empty seats at the bar, so we didn't even second guess it. We were promptly and warmly greeted and asked for a table for our party of 2. The hostess asked if we had reservations, which we did not. She asked us to hold on for a minute and went to who I assume was the owner. After a bit she came back and informed us that we couldn't be served without a reservation because they were "pretty full" and that the soonest they could accommodate us was 8:00. At this point we left and went elsewhere as we needed to be back home by 8:00 for kids bedtime. All in all it was a very disappointing experience to be turned away from a half empty restaurant, on a weeknight, in a small town, for a party of 2. With their limited hours and apparent lack of availability to dine without a reservation, I don't know when, or if, I will actually get back to try their food. Well prepared food with a great taste served by a knowledgeable, friendly staff. The homemade pappardelle pasta was outstanding served with a ragu, great dish. The Capricciosa pizza had all the favorites; artichoke, mushroom, ham, cured black olives. Desserts where a standout. We will return, often. read more

This place has a very limited menu which in my opinion is a great thing. Homemade pasta. The lasagna is made with spinach noodles, very good. The spaghetti and meatballs has 3 giant homemade meatballs. Great concept here the only sad thing I will is we drove by yesterday but couldn't really make out what the restaurant is. If the sign was on the front door or above the front door you could see the restaurant so much better. It's a very lovely restaurant and we will be back for sure. read more

Nice little restaurant. We shared the arugula salad. It was perfect, dressed just right with LOTS of parmigiana cheese. Warm bread and olive oil was good with it. I had the Sea Bream. It was a good portion, well seasoned with crispy skin. However, I was expecting a whole fish, only way I've ever had sea bream. The potatoes were underwhelming, not much flavor but the verde sauce was good. My husband had a pizza which was an excellent Italian style pizza. We finished with gelato and espresso. The gelato was crystallized, wish I had chosen the crepe brûlée instead. Espresso was excellent. The restaurant was a little shabby but the servers were nice and seemed to know many of the customers. After a long day of driving, we stopped for an overnight in Front Royal, and this restaurant was an oasis. My mom and I both got the spaghetti pomodoro - mom also had a meatball. It was excellent red sauce. Nice presentation. I would definitely go again if stopping in this area. They serve beer and wine only. I would suggest making a reservation, if possible. read more

My husband went there a few days ago during a cycling trip through Shenandoah. I met him after the trip and he was raving about this restaurant. He said he had to take me there. We had meatballs as an appetizer and two different pasta dishes as our main course. Everything was fresh and delicious. If I lived in the area I would be a regular customer. It's a family business with lots of hospitality in addition to the great food. The menu is modern. Yes you can order chicken Parmesan but there are so many interesting items to try instead. read more

We moved full-time to nearby Browntown 3 years ago and found a dearth of fine restaurants. The new owners of Osteria Maria have now provided one. The food is stunningly good. I had braised beef ravioli with brown butter sauce -- pretty much the most delicious Italian dish I've had (even in Italy!). My husband's cheese board had a wonderful pecorino romano with truffles. Our desserts were outstanding: tiramisu and ice cream delicately flavored with licorice and coffee. Gourmet food at last in Front Royal! Reasonably priced as well. Can't wait to go back! read more
