We were in town for a anniversary party and while staying overnight, we had a light dinner at Ostera Salina.The waiter was very good but the food we were served was old and I believe it was reheated from a previously canceled order. The food was warm and not hot, the outside edges of the plate were nicely charred but the center of the item was barely warm. How can this happen unless it was reheated from a previous offering. I should have asked for a new order or a refund of my money, but I am not one to be a complainer or cause a problem. Be ware! read more

We tried Lake Owasco for the first time and went out one night in Auburn for dinner. We got lucky with no reservation and were able to get a table. My son enjoyed their margherita pizza (no basil), my other son really liked the linguine frutta di mer and I liked the special - vitello di sardegna (though I wish I got it over pasta instead of with a side of pasta). The restaurant also has a nice feel to it, is not too loud, and we would definitely go back. read more

This is an easy review, overall 3 's Warm inviting atmosphere with an attentive staff. They have an extensive wine list but honestly, it's the food that matters most. The table bread was okay and overall, I look for more flavor/seasoning in my meal. As Italian restaurants go, the food was mid. When we went to dinner tonight, everything was INCREDIBLE. I got a kiwi mojito and then the osteria tini for my drinks and both were so good but the osteria tini was my favorite. For appetizers we had the calamari and bruschetta, both were fantastic. It was the best bruschetta I've ever had! Our table ordered two Bistecca di Manzo one rare and one medium rare and both were cooked perfectly, and I ordered the fettuccine di Marco Polo which was a special and it was one of the best dishes I've ever had. We raved about the food to each other the whole time, I was so full but the food was so good I couldn't stop eating. And we don't usually get dessert but with how amazing the dishes were we had to try it. We ordered the tiramisu, apple tart, cannoli, and the triple chocolate mousse. They didn't disappoint at all!! Giovanni was a highlight though, he was so warm and welcoming and talked to our table multiple times over the course of our meal and made it feel like we were regulars, not just new customers. We will DEFINITELY be going back, a new favorite spot!! read more

SUCH friendly staff that were accommodating and hardworking the entire night. They have a pretty extensive drink menu consisting of specialty cocktails and wine- Kiwi Mojito and the apple cocktail with moonshine were both super refreshing, 10/10 recommend. The tortellini bolognese was our favorite- it was so flavorful and cheesy. The margarita pizza was pretty good.. I'm a sauce girly so I do wish it had a tad more sauce but I really liked the crust. Came here for a bachelorette dinner. We were a group of nine ladies. We ordered a bunch of wine and sparkling wine and we had a grand time. I had the steak with potatoes and vegetable. I thought it was good, but I asked for my steak medium rare and it wasn't even close. Still had good flavor. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals. We also ordered dessert and it was delectable. The main thing I loved was the singer and accordian player who came around to all the tables. That was fantastic and really leveled up the entire experience. read more

The first time I came to Osteria Salina the experience blew my mind. I got a wood fired pizza and just wow. Additionally the staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is romantic. The second and third time I visited I ordered pizza for the table and after a long wait we received the wrong pizza order... we didn't want to send it back and wait another 20 mins (it was packed and short staffed) so we ate it anyway and it was incredibly amazing and allowed me to try something I would have otherwise not tried. It was so good I forgave the mistake. I recommend this place to anyone visiting the area. If you want to feel some authentic Auburn-Italian culture- this is your spot. read more

My husband and I were becoming regulars at Osteria expecting a standard of good service, consistent tasty food, and a serene if not somewhat sophisticated ambiance We arrived this past Saturday with the above expectations and left disappointed The greeting at the door was chaotic and the owner appeared to be spinning his wheels. He seated us in the worst possible table (I felt punished for being a frequent customer ). It took a long time for our order to be taken. I have to say the pear salad appetizer was lovely and delicious. I thought ok things were going to to get better. Not so! The bread was cold and stale, the mussels were over cooked and rubbery and my husband's entree was flavorless compared to the past. I hope this was an anomaly but we no longer see Osteria as our "regular place" to go read more

The 3 stars is only for my husbands NY steak with a reduction sauce sauce and roasted potato with veg on the side was delectable! I ordered a pizza with different cheeses. By the time it came I ate halve of my husbands potato and steak. Did I mention how wonderful it was!. Pizza was good and i will eat it later but will not order it again. The drinks where very sooolw coming. Like they did not want to make them for us. They took our meat and and cheese plate left overs. When we asked where they where he made it look like he did not even know we ordered it. Then said he would have them make a "smaller " plate that concisded of one extra cheese and tomato that I did not want. Not happy with that. We waited a long time for everything. That would of been alright if we did not have too, flag down one of many people that waiting on us, for a refill on a drink to go with everything. Never asked how any thing was. Never asked us if we wanted deserts. It was a nice place but the service sucked big time!!! But did I mention how awsome the NYS steak was!!! We agreed we would eat this at the bar and not bother with table service!! We waited like 15 minuts after we finished our drink and a woman came over grabbed mikes glass and the card right out of his hand! " thank you"!!! No check just took his card! WTF was that!? Then the guy came over with the receipt. I checked it to be sure it was what we ordered. Then mike signed. I was floored. The whole time we where there the conduct of the lady that was helping with water or what ever, kept on making flertaouse moves while the male was at the register! My husband made comments I cane not repeat here. Good luck if you visit here. The parking on the street was confusing enough, add in bad service and you have a desatetous comination. We've been to Osteria Salina twice now and enjoyed both times with tasty food and attentive service. Our latest meal was complemented by two glasses of red wine from a long list: a Valpollicella and a Barbaresco. The restaurant is known for its pizza, but also it's Calamari and we started with that - excellent! We had the seafood special and the veal special - both were very very good. The jalapeño & pineapple margarita is to die for fresh, clean and refreshing. The electric lemonade is simple but good Now to the food: The antipasto was atrocious it was pedestrian and definitely not an antipasto. The bread bowel and olive oil were scrumptious And the Chicken Francese with the linguini was filling and seasoned well definitely a must. Last night tried to get into Prison City but 45 minute wait so this restaurant was recommended by the maitre'd to go to Osteria Salina next door. They also had a wait but not as long. My friend and I sat at the bar to get a drink while we waited. We waited awhile before we were acknowledged and the bartender was very curt and unfriendly. He called my friend "Babe" which was sexist to me and her. He brought my drink but forgot my friends? He finally remembered and brought hers over. I almost walked out after this interaction. There were several tables open that just were not cleaned so I asked how much longer to the maitre'd and then a table was cleaned off for us. We were seated and water and bread was brought over. Half of the bread was burnt (see photo). I don't understand why they would serve that? The waiter came off as having a chip on his shoulders because my girlfriend who speaks perfect Italian asked for a dish in Italian and he repeated it back to her and said as a pizza or entree? It's not so much what he said but how he said it. The food was just ok. So many great Italian restaurants to choose from in the Syracuse area I will not be back here the attitude of staff just turns me off. read more

This is my third time here since I started traveling on business to upstate NY again after 10 years. Stumbled in here by chance 6 months ago, now i stay in Auburn when I can. Don't recall the entrees I had before but know I really enjoyed them. Lots of locals seem to fit in here whether they just want pizza or a full course meal. I just discovered they have live music on Tuesday....nice bonus. The bartender makes everyone feel at home....great place overall especially if you're looking for a good meal when you come in for business. read more

Today I decided to take my Uncle here for lunch. I am never disappointed when I choose this place! The owner and the waiters are very helpful and excellent at taking care of there customers! My Uncle and I ordered the strip steak with mushrooms and shrimp and broccoli as a side . I always order their Vanilla Porter , I like the IPA beers. I went there for the first time for lunch and couldn't have had a better experience. They have a lunch special that includes a choice of several appetizers, a choice of entrée, and a glass of wine (for a quite reasonable price). I got mussels for my appetizer (which were quite good) and grilled salmon with vegetables as my main dish. It may have been the best salmon I've ever had. My dining partner also got the salmon, but got a bowl of a creamy seafood soup as their appetizer. The soup had generous portions of salmon and was very good as well. Service was prompt, polite, and knowledgeable. I will definitely be back! read more

Had a marvelous time last night. The food was GREAT! We had pasta dishes and a veal entree, all prepared exactly as we asked. An extensive wine list offered everyone a pleasing option. Osteria Salina was absolutely phenomenal from the staff, to the food, and even the environment! I worked at the Merry Go-around Playhouse this past month and some of the cast went out for a nice little dinner within our last couple of days in Auburn and this restaurant did not disappoint. The service was so kind and so genuine. They really made us so comfortable and had us seated and served very quickly- we had a reservation for 8pm and they took our food orders first and made sure we had all orders in before eventually closing the kitchen (and not kicking us out!!! ) I had a very nice Cabernet Sauvignon to start dinner and eventually moved on to the bread they greet the table with.. it was so warm, crispy, and soft! After the incredible bread, I checked out the soup of the day - chicken rice soup. I am a huge fan of soup and this one was something special. The veggies were oh, so soft and melted in your mouth and there was plenty chicken and such a nice broth. The lasagna was the start of my meal, and might I argue the entire night!! It was a very dense brick of tomato sauce, cheese, and meat and boy, they couldn't have done it better. So much food, such good flavor, and you it was all made in the house! My parents love to come here and it's nice to be in the area to enjoy another fabulous meal here. We ordered a marguerita pizza as an appetizer. They have a wood-burning traditional oven and their pizza is traditional Neapolitan style. The crust is the proper density with a slight chew. The sauce is clearly and simply fresh tomatoes. As it should be. I had the chicken parmigiana ask hadn't had it in months. The chicken was a perfect crisp on the outside, tender and moist inside. Sauce again was simple yet perfectly seasoned. My mom had the chicken Marsala. I like a little more Marsala flavor, but this had a nice subtlety to it. My aunt had the special: chicken, grilled peppers and onions with crumbled hot sausage over roasted potatoes. It too was good, reminiscent of a dish my mom makes. My dad had the lobster ravioli: little pillows of heaven filled with copious amounts of lobster. The rush also had several jumbo grilled shrimp. Portions are so copious, we have sufficient leftovers for tomorrow's lunch. We wanted room for dolce! For dessert, my aunt ordered the coconut gelato. I had the ricotta cheesecake with infused orange oil and my parents split an apple target which consisted of caramelized apples and homemade vanilla gelato. The cheesecake was light, fluffy almost like a mousse. The apple tartlet was perfect as we're both the vanilla and coconut gelatos (the coconut had fresh coconut flakes). Finished with a nice limoncello. It's like being back in Tuscany. Service is stellar. Truly top notch and what you'd expect to find in an upscale restaurant like this. Live Italian music. If you like stale bread and fruit/drain flies in your face this is the spot for you. My mom likes this spot and we find ourselves here almost every year. This past visit wasn't very good at all. The Cesar salad was shredded romaine with flavorless dressing and more stale bread in the form of croutons. The server didn't know what a neat pour was as my drink came on the rocks. The cavatelli pasta needed salt and the cheesecake was gross. We'll pick a new spot next time. read more
