This place rocks. The food is outstanding as well as the service. It is a bit on the pricey side. We had some complimentary cheese from a cheese wheel and it was phenomenal. We shared a plate of pasta made table side in the cheese wheel. Amazing. It was an appetizer for us. Delicious but it's a small portion . It cost 45 dollars. We had a wonderful bottle of red wine. I can't stress enough how amazingly wonderful Osteria Umbra is. Chef Marco & Sabrina were both so lovely checking on us, a few times, to be sure we were all happy with our choices of food & with the food they had suggested. As for the staff, they were all so attentive, professional, kind, knowledgeable, caring & helpful! The food was incredible!!! Everything was fresh & delicious. This is not your everyday ordinary Italian Restaurant. You can tell Chef Marco puts his heart & soul into all of his wonderful dishes. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside. Just had a birthday dinner here 16 ppl, amazing ! Everyone was raving about the food. From apps to pasta to main course and dessert. The cappuccino was even better than other places. Wine list was extensive as I'm sure you will be able to find whatever wine you love. It's so beautiful inside and out. We had an amazing meal at Osteria Umbra. There is nothing like this in this area and we were so pleasantly surprised to find a restaurant of this caliber. Bravo to the owners who make all pasta and desserts fresh on the premises. There is also a sommelier to assist with selecting the perfect wine to pair it with your meal. Gavin chose a excellent wine that we enjoyed to the last drop and hope to find a bottle to put in our wine cooler at home. I went to this restaurant for dinner with high expectations and they definitely delivered. To start the restaurant is very pretty with its open kitchen and view of the wood fire grill. The staff is super friendly and on top of things . Now the best part, "the food". They start you off with warm breads and imported olive oil then they wheel over a cart with a giant cheese wheel of imported parmigiana that is some of the best I've ever tasted. We ordered beef carpaccio, oysters, the suckling pig and Bronzino. All of them were delicious. I have eaten here 3 times and the food is good, however, today I was very disappointed with the hostess staff. I understand that we had no reservations, but there's a kind/professional way of saying it's busy or will be a long wait. I noticed the girls working the front are young, but they should be trained appropriately to not sound rude when speaking to guest. Dinner tonight was a very nice experience. We started the evening out in the bar for a cocktail. They make an incredible negroni. It has a huge ice cube in it, infused with passion fruit. Osteria has a chance to become a real special occasion restaurant for us if they can address the following: 1: Food prices need to reflect that this is a Long Island restaurant, not a Manhattan restaurant. I took the Covid & economy factor into consideration when writing this review. 2: Cocktail prices: same comment as #1 3: Acoustics: Unless it's a Bistro or a nightclub, acoustics like this should never happen in a fine restaurant. 4: The service at fine restaurants is spot on from the minute you call for or make a reservation until you leave. No inconsistencies. There are inconsistencies here such as the server not asking if we would like another cocktail or bottled water. Not folding our napkins after getting up from the table and not pulling the table out for my wife so exiting is easy. These are a few of the little things that fine restaurants do that go a long way. The prices referenced above start to become more palatable when the little details are happening. 5: Our food was very good overall. Both of our salads were fresh and the Pasta Bolognese was really good. Sadly, the Cacio e Pepe was way to thick and gloppy despite the nice presentation. The Chocolate Soufflé was very good as well. It was obvious that there is so much effort being put forth for service & food. The fact that the restaurant was packed speaks volumes about that. In our opinion, Osteria just needs a push to get to that next level. We hope they do! read more

The moment you walk in to this restaurant you are welcomed with the delicious aromas emanating from the amazing rotisserie. We were greeted by a hostess who was ready to take us to our seat. As we walked through the restaurant the ambiance is warm and inviting. Patrons at the bar and front seating enjoying a Saturday night out for a spectacular meal and drinks. The bustling staff working around the rotisserie as we turned the corner with an awesome view of suckling pig slowly rotating in its juices. We were seated with my party of 5 in the far left corner where we had both a very comfortable bench seat and a few chairs, good people viewing section. A card sat in front of my seat wishing me a happy birthday which was such a special touch. Our waitress was very professional and knowledgeable. She knew the menu, drinks and food inside out. She took our drink order, then brought a delicious dish of fresh chunks of parmigiana cheese and a basket of a variety of breads with tasty olive oil to dip. The types of breads I'll try to identify was a crusty baguette, an olive loaf and an herbal focaccia type bread. All of which were very good and welcomed. As we mulled over the menu, our waitress assisted us in making our final decisions for our meals. She recommended the entertaining pasta dish where this massive parmigiana wheel comes to your table and the delicately delicious pasta is tossed inside by a staff member then delivered to the table ready to eat. We ordered this for all to share and it was amazing. The appetizers are recommended as individual portions, not sharing so each one of us ordered something different. We ordered the shrimp tempura, octopus, calamari, scallops, truffle fries and burrata with prosciutto. Everything was cooked perfectly and had delicious flavor. Three of our party ordered the suckling pig and two of us the chilean sea bass. All of the dishes were extraordinarily good. We didn't get dessert because it was my birthday so we had cake waiting for us home. Kindly, the staff knew it was my birthday and came out with a complimentary dish of vanilla gelato, so good and appreciated. My husband has eyes like a hawk and noticed Kevin James (the actor) walk into the restaurant and take a seat in the far right corner. You know a restaurant is on point when you see famous actors walking into an establishment in Hauppauge, Long Island. This is the second time i have been here. I wish they still gave you the chunks of Parmesan with bread or the option to buy it. Zucchini flowers were great. Gnocchi melted in your mouth. Chicken dish was not that great, I thought it would be spicy and it wasn't at all. The sauce was also like a tomato paste which I didn't enjoy. My husband said the lamb chops were really good. I had the cucumber cooler which was very good and the strawberry smash which was just ok. I am a big fan of their desserts, strawberry tart was amazing. Waiter was excellent. My wife and I decided to celebrate our birthdays with a special dinner at Osteria Umbra and we are glad we did. The restaurant was spotless with warm and inviting decor. The staff was very well trained, friendly and made us feel welcome. The menu was very interesting and diverse. The bone in rib-eye and Chilean sea bass were both perfectly cooked and full of flavor. We tried the pasta special served table side in a Parmesan wheel which was fantastic. Even the side order of Brussels sprouts with guanciali was amazing. Our only complaint was the hostess ignoring us when we arrived but was quickly rectified by chef Marco. How to pay respect to this establishment... every part of the experience here is a perfect date setting. You should definitely start by making a reservation, it is highly recommended. The interior is absolutely beautiful, dim lighting with candlelight at the tables, it's a very soft cozy feeling restaurant. The manager Sean took care of our table and he was everything you want from a dining experience. Extremely courteous, knowledgable, confident and helpful. The Owner and Chef Marco himself came to our table and prepared and smoked the Scottish salmon in front of us which was a cool experience. The food was out of this world. The Rigatoni cooked perfectly al dente with the soft rib falling off the bone soaking up the pasta sauce, I couldn't stop eating it. The black truffle ravioli... this dish was so ridiculously good that it didn't make sense. I am going back just to get this for myself twice in the same sitting. If I could recommend a first dish to try to make you want to come back that's it. Phenomenal. For dessert I got the chocolate souffle, I am not really a big chocolate fan but this was very subtle and soft, not overbearing and the vanilla gelato and whipped cream really brought the flavor together nicely. The cream puffs were made from scratch like everything else in the restaurant and I must admit I have never had one so good. However, a recent experience during this holiday season made us feel less than human and an outcast as they cordially invited us to leave the bar as they opened it to a private Party. This would've been OK if there was some prior warning. My wife and I stopped by the restaurant for the sole reason of relaxing and having a drink and appetizer after an exceptionally strenuous day. We walked into the restaurant directly in front of the hostesses and sat at the bar. The owner walked by and smiled, and we sat there for 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. My husband and I walked in at 7:15 and the hostess asked us our name. A server came over with a beautiful presentation of a Parmesan wheel and broke pieces off to put on a plate which was beautiful and the bread was delicious as well. Our server Crystal was just a doll and excellent. I cannot tell you how many people came over to us over and over and over again before the meal after the meal deciding on the meal all throughout dinner interrupting our conversation and eating. Just didn't care for it. Food was ok. For the prices they charge should have been stellar. The zucchini flowers were stuffed with mozzarella and were delicious. I ordered the tagliarini pasta dish on special that evening. Adult macaroni & cheese with Italian bacon. My sister had the troifie pasta (like a small gemelli) with pesto & scallops. The scallops were sliced horizontally & vertically so they were little morsels. The pesto sauce was fresh & very "basilly". My brother in law had the wood fired veal chop. It was cooked medium & it was juicy with a little pink. It was scrumptious.
