These things happen but what really bothered me is that the server/waitress instructed me in a quasi condescending way that I need to explicitly order it either medium or medium rare or medium well. Big pieces of fish and avocado. Some places skimp and make tiny rolls, but not here. Very impressed with the sushi. Prices are average. I think it's worth the money, because the quality was great. Waitstaff was polite and service was quick. The restaurant is clean and bright. CONS: Street parking. Place is smaller, so getting a table could be an issue. It wasn't for me on my first visit. I gotta say I do NOT understand why the ratings for this place aren't better. Easily the freshest fish I've had in Newton and I grew up here. For a sushi place, the wine is quite good too and they always have space for us to dine-in. Service is just fine for what it is but nothing matters except the fish! Eat here! Questionable service and not family friendly--this place is conveniently located, so my family of four got in the habit of coming here for lunch. The food was on par with its competitors but it was a little more expensive. Additionally, from the start the service was cold and we would typically have to ask multiple times for drinks and for someone to take our order. This may not sound like much, but it can become a challenge if you have two young children who need lunch then a nap. In the end, we stopped coming here when a waitress lashed out at my wife because my two-year-old spilled a bowl of rice. I get that it's inconvenient, but the restaurant was basically empty, it wasn't a huge mess, we tipped her we'll and had historically tipped her well, and in the end, that's something that happens if you work in a restaurant. If they don't want kids eating there, they should post a sign or let you know when you come in. Not passive aggressively give poor service and encourage their wait staff to be rude and condescending. read more

My friend and I ordered maki rolls and it only took about 5-10 minutes from ordering to actually getting the food! Since Otake Sushi Bistro moved into the Old Lincoln Street Coffee spot roughly 2 years ago literally a dozen sushi places have popped up within roughly a 3 mile radius from Otake Sushi Bistro, so this place kinda gets lost. Otake Sushi Bistro's food is good but just average in the way of sushi. The place is very small. good for a date. Otake is very clean, Staff at times seem like they don't want to be bothered or just bored. The prices are right on for the area. I enjoyed their Miso soup, house salad with ginger dressing, & the crispy shrimp tempura sushi. Stay away from the Teriyaki Dishes they are awful. They do take credit cards & deliver locally They are also wheelchair accessible but it is tight. No power door on the front entrance. read more

The Sushi chef made me a nice sea bass appetizer on the house. It was fresh and amazing. What I ordered is what made the experience fall short. The sake maki was great out of the three items. The salmon was fresh and they packed a lot into the roll. The Okate specialty maki was not good. The shrimp tempura inside was greasy and over took the entire bite with each piece. Finally the fried spring rolls seemed to have been frost burned before frying because the filling was liquified and squirted out. Was not expecting that at all.
