quite literally one of the best ramen that i've ever had. cocoa ramen has such a homey, cozy feel. there are a few tables when you walk in and a short, simple menu. i tried a unique dish that they offered, chicken katsu ramen, and i'm gonna be honest, i was a bit skeptical because i like chicken katsu, but i've never tried it in ramen before. however, they really nailed the broth. it genuinely tasted like i was eating a bowl of chicken katsu with such a strong spiced broth, but in a water-like texture that paired so well with their thin, chewy noodles. they allowed me to substitute the fried chicken for grilled chicken, which was great, and honestly the meal was plenty for dinner. i had no wait on a friday evening, and i would definitely check this place out again. my food was brought out in under 15 minutes, and overall, the dish was impeccable.

Four months ago, I dropped by this ramen shop for a quick bite. For an appetizer, I got the pork cha shu buns which came in a pair. The buns had braised pork, carrots, cilantro, and drizzled with siracha and teriyaki sauce. The buns tasted good but the pork was a bit well done and it was a tad saucy. For entree, I got the tori paitan ramen which came with braised pork, bean sprouts, onsen egg cut in half, bamboo shoots, seaweed, and scallions. The broth was actually pretty good, not too salty. Again, the braised pork was a bit well done but otherwise, it was a good ramen. For dessert, I got mango sticky rice. It was so good! The mango was fresh and sweet and the sticky rice was tasty.
This quaint restaurant in downtown Newton was such a surprise. On a Thursday during lunch, it was relatively empty. The service was quick and the food was delicious. This restaurant is also connected to a Thai restaurant, so you can order from both menus if you would like. If you have a party of more than four people, it will be difficult to get seating, so make sure to call ahead. You have to pay for street parking, but there was plenty on Thursday.
Solid ramen shop in Piccadilly square right in Newton. Came as a party of 2 on a Friday evening and were able to quickly get a seat indoors. They offer outdoor seating winch is great on warm summer days. Newton is typically very a family-oriented neighborhood and the scene at this spot was very family friendly. We ordered a chicken karrage to share, a spicy miso ramen, and a curry ramen. The karaage was kind of small but the price is extremely fair for an appetizer and very tasty. As for the ramen, the broth for both soups felt soft in my opinion (others might argue it's 'bland') but I kind of prefer the delicate balance in this broth - not terribly spicy and not super salty as normally with spicy miso. The noodles were a perfect 'Al dente' if that can be described for ramen noodles. Usually at most ramen shops the noodles come out just a tad soft but the composition of the noodles here surprisingly was excellent. The char-siu with the spicy miso was thin sliced and definitely grilled which was an interesting twist and boosted the flavor of the dish overall. I was only able to grab a few bites of the curry ramen but the broth also had that light/airy feel (I really like that) and the katsu that came with managed to stay crispy till the end of the meal. tldr; cute ramen joint in Newton serving quality ramen. These folks know their game.
A small ramen restaurant that's been in Newton Centre for quite some time. I ordered on their website for takeout and the timing of my pickup was as expected. The service for pickup was straight forward and easy. I got the clear shoyu ramen, which was very light, but still had all the flavor you'd expect broth to have. The packaging was great since you could pour the entire soup container into the noodle bowl and the seaweed was packaged separately to not get soggy. The noodles were tender, nicely cooked soft boiled egg, and the bamboo shoots added a different texture to the meal. The corn got lost at the bottom of my bowl, but this meal was great for a cold winter night.

The karaage chicken was decent but had some tougher tendon parts. I'd probably order both again. I chose the dirty shoyu ramen with chicken, described as a creamier shoyu ramen. The broth was average, with a large serving of noodles and a good amount of chicken. The noodles were standard packaged yellow curly ones, and the chicken, being a chicken breast, was unfortunately tough. I also tried the chashu, thinly sliced but a bit hard. I sampled both the curry ramen and spicy miso broths, which tasted good but not exceptional. I'm unsure if I'd return, but if I did, I might opt for the shoyu ramen, although I wasn't a fan of the protein choices. They offer a nice selection of beverages, and the service is good, managing to fit a good number of tables in the small space. Overall it's a solid spot but in an area with so many great ramen options, I probably wouldn't come back.

Service was good and the staff checked in periodically. I got the spicy miso ramen with pork. The presentation was great and the broth hit the spot on a chilly night. My only complaint is that the boiled egg was cold. There was a good amount of pork and the portion was perfect.
Solid ramen place in Newton center. I believe they share the same kitchen as the Thai restaurant Coconut. The paitan broth is delicious and the ramen noodles was cooked well. The egg was cooked to perfection. Small dining area and the chairs can be uncomfortable. Overall a solid ramen ( wish the pork was thicker and had more of a char taste)

A generous bowl of ramen filled with the usual suspects. It was Monday so most other ramen shops are closed. No complaints. We had the spicy miso and the shoyo broth. We left with full bellies and a smile read more
A solid casual ramen spot! Lots of flavor, large portions, and friendly staff working. It's pretty small inside but that makes it feel more homey and warm inside. We came for dinner and it wasn't busy inside. Our food came out quick! We got the Karaage chicken appetizer which was a little more chewy than I had hoped but it was still tasty -- especially with that dipping sauce it came with! For ramen, we all ordered something different and were all happy with our orders. read more

A nice little restaurant out in Newton! The service is fast and I think it's also connected to the restaurant next door? The menu seemed to have both restaurant dishes. We focused more on the ramen which was a nice cozy meal. The food wasn't too salty and the chicken karaage was super tender on the inside but still had a crisp outer layer. The ramen was also full of meat and presented beautifully. The lighting may have been great that day with the sunlight but overall the restaurant was clean and presented well! The parking in the area is not bad at all and although the ramen side of the store seemed pretty busy, they were able to seat us in the Thai restaurant that was adjacent and connected together. read more

TLDR: great ramen Came here for a late lunch and was delighted by the ramen. Got the spicy ramen which hit all the flavors of a rich hearty broth, with zaps of flavor from all the accoutrements. I also got the karage which was wonderfully done. Would happily come here again! read more
I think this spot is fairly new and I stumbled upon it spontaneously and was so happy I did! The menu is small and inside only has a few tables. Food: We got the karaage chicken app, dirty shoyu, and miso ramen. The dirty shoyu soup was a pleasant surprise - I typically don't like shoyu because I only taste soy sauce but this one has an interesting depth to it. The miso ramen soup was good but not my preferred - it wasn't as rich as I expected. In both bowls of ramen, the noodles were cooked to perfection and I was so happy it came with many toppings for a really great price! Cons if any: The karaage was unfortunately not the best. The meat was tender but I felt like the batter was over cooked and a bit bitter. Also, they had a TV in the restaurant and were playing videos of making street food from Korea/Japan and I just thought it was odd because these are not foods that they offer. Not a lot of parking nearby so you have to settle 1 hr street parking in nearby streets Soup was hearty and flavorful. Pork chasu bao was decent but I question the carrots in it. Enjoyed the spicy miso. The broth was smooth, creamy, and had the perfect amount of spicy that makes your nose drip. The eggy noodles were chewy and exactly the texture I enjoy. The half ajitama egg was almost perfect but delicious nevertheless. Good amount of corn, bamboo, bean sprouts, etc. However, the slices of pork were paper thin. My fellow diner had the dirty ramen and the broth was clean, light, and delicious. Small restaurant with only a few seats. Metered parking outside. Quick service. Being a local Newton native and a food fanatic, when there is a local spot I haven't tried, I rush to do so which was the case here. Following a 15 mile London Marathon training run, I needed carbs so I landed here for some ramen. I chose the Chicken katsu Curry Ramen and some spring rolls. Looking at the ingredients and fried chicken, you may expect to be overfilled by this ramen, but I honestly think the Japanese curry broth is an incredible change of pace from other ramens I've had and I felt it was a good portion and not too filling. A Major way to determine good ramen from mediocre/bad is the noodles and egg, and both were solid. I'd definitely eat here again...I had to delivery order, but can't wait to try in person. A Great place to join the Newton food scene. read more

My boyfriend and I LOVE to try new places often. Originally were in the area to try a different restaurant but when we found ourselves on an hour waitlist and with growling bellies, we decided to try Coco Ramen instead! The place is small and very cozy, which we loved. The service is great and very friendly and the menu is small which i love because it makes deciding what to eat so much easier! It is on a busy street but we got parking right across which was a plus! Definitely recommend any Ramen lovers to try this great little gem in Newton! read more

Got some takeout from here to bring home to the family and really enjoyed the food! The ramen was very fairly priced and delicious, just be aware that for the spicy ramen when they say spicy they mean spicy! Also enjoyed a Thai iced tea as well as the fried oysters which are always my fav at ramen places like this. They have a few tables inside and the spot looks very cute, would definitely recommend!! read more
Helpful tip: not the best ramen addition to the ramen scene near boston Review: the karaage fried chicken is just chicken nuggets. You can tell that the breading is lazy as it is definitely subpar to the karaage you'd find in Brookline. The ramen itself is very average. There's nothing here that really stood out to me. The service is fine, I would personally prefer little big diner down the street. read more

This is an awesome place, it's a serious contender against Little Big Diner. The ramen is light and not too filling, very flavorful, and the noodles have a nice chew to them. I don't feel sluggish at all after eating! The dirty shoyu ramen is really good :) also it's cozy in there too, they have pretty lights and a tv playing cooking and baking clips! The prices are reasonable too, $13-14 for ramen. Definitely recommend this place! read more
